Bootloader troubles - Sprint LG Optimus G

I tried unlocking the bootloader using android sdk. Didn't work. Im using mac but I couldnt get passed a specific part. Anyways, I found that I could use freegee to do it, but how reliable is it? Is doing it via the laptop more reliable than the app? How often does the app fail? Do I need an unlocked bootloader to install twrp? I can only imagine that I should have a custom recovery before unlocking right? So so many questions....sorry. lol

The app worked like a charm for me. It seems to be the easiest way to get-r-done.

But how do I flash out? I dont have a recovery

I had a hard time getting it into download mode. Had the LG screen only. When I dot it into download mode I used the LG utility to flash.

Awesome phone. Too quirky

Simply unlocking boot loader and flashing stock rooted rom nearly bricked my phone and definitely bricked wife's phone. Now my wife is on her old evo due to bricking and I don't want to go through this again on the my lg when jelly bean comes out next month. HTC was much easier and more reliable. Just my 2 cents.

Rooting and unlocking... Easy schmeezy, Flashing a zip, not a very reliable thing on our lg phones. I'm familiar with flashing roms wiping cache etc. Never worried about it on evos.

Yeah stick to twrp and you'll be super good that's the most reliable recovery
If you have cwm just use the freegee app to change to twrp

You did not do it right then because it worked fine on the 3 i have used it on before posting something about it being too quirky you should do a little research

4. DL stock rooted odexed v9 from xda

I have done this 3x on two different phones using TWRP and have not had one issue. I am not sure what happened but I promise you it was not the phone. CWM is buggy, so I see why your wife's phone is messed up. However I can only assume you have some corrupted download to explain your issues on the other phone. I have also walked a kindergarten teacher with no computer skills beyond word through this over instant message with no problems.

Tried that too although not necessary unless your flashing a custom or deodexed rom. Devs are great. Phone is unstable when it comes to flashing. That's all.

Reinstall drivers. Use tsilenzios automated lgnpst install which has drivers. Then flash stock.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda app-developers app
Yea I dont think you like the phone, there is nothing quirky about this phone. Its fast looks beautiful and has awesome battery life.
I like other members have used all the tools avail to root on 6 different phones and haven't had a single issue.
If your flashing stock deodexed ZV9 over ZV8 then you absolutley going to need to wipe everything and only use twrp at the current moment as it is the most stable recovery we have.
There is never a reason to not do a full factory reset wipe cache/dalvik cache other than being lazy , and yes I understand that having to re-do all apps and contacts is a pain but if you use gmail to its potential ( all of us androiders should) then logging back into your account does most of the work and leaves no room for questions or error.
I've never had any issue at all with flashing

I've had zero issues doing a full wipe every time i flash a new ROM.

Phone won't unlock bootloader without bricking

Ok I've now recovered my phone 3 times after trying to unlock my bootloader, I've done it with freegee and GAIO both when i reboot I just get the LG logo then a black screen and nothing. I've tried with installing a new recovery as well as not doing the recovery install at all. Anyone have an idea why this would be happening?
GAIO doesn't root zv9, or zvb. For those you should be using fiddy root.

Im currently in the same situation. I used to be rooted on Lifeless but last week I had the same situation (LG screen to black screen).
Now, im only on stock rooted JB. I cant unlock bootloader because it wont let me. You should talk yo shelnut on the irc. When i talked to him last week, he said there is a way to unlock but there is a chance of brick with no coming back. I couldnt risk it, so im stuck on stock rom

You both would just use Loki's Locked Imperium. I've been running it and it's pretty nice for people that just can't unlock.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda premium
After recovering I was at zv7 so that's when I used gaio, the other times I rooted with fiddly. And I haven't gotten to the point of being able to install a rom. After unlocking the bootloader it doesn't allow me to ever even go to recovery.
Does the locked imperium not need a recovery to install with?

fiddy has a Universal root. Its for all versions. Maybe even run it twice to make sure root is good. Then either try freegee again or use Locked Imperium. For now anyway.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda premium
Well I can't use the locked imperium because my phone hasn't got the jellybean update yet . it's partly why I want to root.I used fiddly the first 2 tries to unlock. Do you think doing a bootloader unlock twice might make a difference?

The short and sweet is: Download zvb update,, update to zv9, root, push zvb uodatebto /cache. Hang on, I'll edit this with a link.

Neither of these use freegee
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda premium
awesome looks like i just need a rooted zv9 to do this, thanks alot!
Also, you don't have to use rootkeeper. Just use fiddy619 root for everything. So zv9, root using fiddy, push zvb update to /cache, root zvb using fiddy root again. I can't remember if it freezes at 4GLTE screen or not. If so, do this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=38887359&postcount=155
edit. You dont need to rename the update either
Worked like a charm! Never had any lockups or anything. Your the man!

I'm curious. Did you run root twice? Or just the once when on JB? I'm assuming you unlocked.
Also, I'll rewrite those steps and put them in my guide. Tomorrow hopefully.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda premium
I only ran root once. I haven't tried unlocking yet though at this time as I'm worried about having to unbrick again. If you want me to try for the guide your writing though I would give it a try.

Recovery

So ive rooted this fine device with framaroot and.have flashed both twrp and cwm a couple timea as well but cant seem to boot into them. It just gives me a black screen with a measage about recovery security. Did i need to unlock before root? Kind of strange to be able to successfully root without unlocking.

I'm guessing you're on stock. I've never heard of that.
So you unlocked using FreeGee?
For this phone, TWRP is your best option. Makes me wonder if CWM has caused that error.
You could try installing TWRP thru goomanager.
Or, run FreeGee again, and install with TWRP.
Or you can use teeny bins with LGNPST.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Run freegee to unlock or the secure boot certificate, not matching what it should be (partition sizes/md5 or whatever security they use) will prevent you from going anywhere besides normal boot

It's fine. If you get an error then go to the irc and talk to them about it and they'll help figure out what went wrong and how to fix it but if it errors out don't reboot

The T999L is the Superior Cousin T999 never was. It has an LTE antenna that the T999 is missing. Practically all the Custom Roms will work fine from one to the other.
If you want to flash custom Recovery then use Goo Manager and hit Install Custom Recovery Script.
Yea already tried goo manager but it said no recovery scripts were found for your device

Could be your Bootloader is locked.
Are you absolutely sure you are successfully Rooted ? Please use Root Checker App if in doubt.
When you tried to flash the Recovery via ODIN, what was the error ? Can you post a screenshot ?
With due respect "Everything Fails" doesn't really tell me squat.
I'll do that when i get back home.
