[Q] Application permissions - LG Optimus G Pro

Is there anyway to change the permissions of an individual application once it's installed ?
It doesn't even give you the option at install time, you have to accept all the permissions that
it's asking for or cancel the install.
Thanks,
Fred

Stock email app apk?

In my haste on my freshly rooted Nexus, I used Titanium Backup to uninstall some apps I don't use that I know I can get from the market if I ever wanted them, but I got a bit quick and uninstalled the stock Email app instead of freeze it (in case I ever wanted to use it). I did a factory reset but that doesn't bring it back so my question is, can anyone post the apk and tell me where to put it to get it back? I think the proper location is /system/app, is that correct? Thanks.
Yep, /system/app. There are two APKs with the Email icon: EmailGoogle.apk and ExchangeGoogle.apk. I've attached both as a ZIP.
Thanks a lot!
OK so I'm still a bit new to this. I used root explorer to mount /system/app as r/w and changed the permissions on the EmailGoogle.apk to rwxr--r--. I already have ExchangeGoogle.apk. I have enabled "allow non-market apps" in my settings but I'm still getting "application not installed" when i try to install it. What am I missing? I used the RootToolkit to unlock and root my Galaxy Nexus, but I do have some experience using adb from the past with rooting my Droid. Do I need adb to install this?

You won't be able to install it, just use a root explorer (such as ES File Explorer) to manually copy the file to /system/app, it should then show up as installed.
Ah ok. I did a reboot and it's still not in my app drawer.

I wasn't thinking; you'll need the ODEX as well. I've attached both files, just copy them both into /system/app and let me know if that works.
That did it! Excellent!

Hex editor doesn't ask for superuser permission.

So I rooted my SII and flashed the 3.0.7 of superuser and it seems to work fine for titanium backup. However when I installed HexEditor by Tuba and opened it, it does not ask for super user permissions.
Thanks.
Install busybox. Apps on market for hat
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
I installed busybox and it still didn't work. I checked if I am rooted properly and I am, other apps that require superuser are working but file managers that need it do not ask for superuser.
I am having the same exact problem..I cant access the /data file in there either because it doesn't ask for superuser access
I know this is a rather obvious solution but.. have you rebooted your phone? Sometimes when I install root apps from the market and open them directly from there it doesn't request super user access until I reboot and open the app again after startup..

didnt work...i wish it did maybe its a glitch in the hex editor app before the newest update when i went to the /data file the only two options it had was back and /data but i couldnt go past the second /data screen and even then it didnt ask for superuser permission, now it shows in the second screen / /.. 'ermission denied and if i go to the settings menu and try to click on Root Permissions it says "can't change shell".
it does work
Start the application and press the Menu button then press Settings and you will see Root permissions mark it and it will show you the Superuser dialog.
It was so easy it made me feel dumb
i have tried that i have also made sure that i was rooted over and over again when i go to hex editor settings i click root permissions it says "can't change shell"

[Q] Any App to remove/disable the permission of some Apps?

Some Apps need lots of permission, but indeed a few permission can work well. And it make me uncomfortable to apply so many permissions.
Is there any App to do something to disable or remove the un-needed permission? (my KF not rooted)

Found. An app named Advanced Permission Manager

no stock email

I must be doing something wrong here. I've installed Condemned CM7 and MROM and neither installed the stock email client and I'm not able to add accounts other than Gmail and Corporate (Exchange). I wasn't given a selection of what to install (like some other custom ROMs) so what is going on here?

See if you can pull it from another CM7 ROM, like Nitsua's builds. Go into the zip, extract the mail apk, put it into your system/app location and set permissions. Then reboot.

Thanks. Is this how I can add features to a custom ROM provided it's from a compatible apk? I installed a custom ROM on my Senastion and did not select HTC Mail at install time (thought it was a special HTC version of mail). Afterwards, could I have extracted the mail apk from the ROM and put it in system/app like you said? What permission do I set, 777?

What would justify setting premissions of 777, when 755 should suffice?

It was more of a question since I've never done it. I figured it's the "loosest" permission which will allow the apk to be installed by anyone. 755 it is.
The permissions have nothing to do with installation, and in fact, you can't set the permissions UNTIL an app is installed, It has to do with who can run the program, or read it, or overwrite it.

Q Removed execute permissions for system-app folder

oh no. sometimes i just have to wonder, how i can suck with computers this much.
this time I managed to root my nokia x 1.2.4.3 right but went to change permissions of whole system-app file by removing execute-rights and naturally the whole phone aint anymore managing to open OS. So my dear and hopefully more skilled friends, how I can change permissions of system-app folder back to regular from PC
Seems that there aint any difference when trying to open phone with volume up or down.
tommi
EDIT volume up seems working out but not sure what i should do with it to change system app permissions to default
So what do you guys think is nokias own hard-reset going to help me or **** me even more over?
Also is there possibilty to change permissions of this files through computer? I could imagine tat superRU is also installed to system-apps folder so cant probably start it to give permissions to access changing permissions.
Im just lonely homeless traveller who wants to abuse tinder for finding places to sleep, cant be too much to asked.
