I've tried numerous roms for my ota hov cdma both sense and cm9/cm10 and for some reason I seem to get better reception and ram usage with sense based. Is there I logical explanation or am I just seeing things? I prefer the cm builds but I keep switching back to sense because of seemingly better performance.
Thoughts?

im looking for a rom that is the closest to the stock desire Z rom on a unbranded desire Z.. im in the process of getting a tmobile G2.. and i dont like the stock fw..
by far the best i have come across is Virtuous ROM as it is sense, but faster and tweaks to be better, and with the advanced kernel you can overclock to 1.5 ghz! the only downside is its froyo 2.2

Why is that a downside? What is so much better about Gingerbread than Froyo? I've tried out just about all the GB based ROMs out for the G2, and I don't believe it's better than Froyo. Just a different look that doesn't seem to add speed/responsiveness to the phone.
Virtuous is a great Sense based ROM. Period.
gingerbread seems to be quite a bit faster for me, dunno it might just be me, and I really like the changes to the ui

you could try gingersense as well, i liked it but ditched it for ultimate droid now.
Well if you want the closest to stock then definitely go Virtuous like the above poster stated. But if you want something a bit faster with a significantly longer battery life you have to try TrollogenMod 0.9.1. Its Gingerbread Sense with the Sense 3.0 lockscreen which is pretty fun.

Its no secret that gingerbread makes android much more responsive, that was the biggest goal according to google...
Just sayin

is trollogen perfectly usable? ive been on CM7 for a while holding out for virtuous gingerbread, and now thinking of going to virtuous fusion ROM which is sense 3.0 port. is trollogen good and are there any problems? thanks
EDIT:another downside to virtuous rom is the crappy htc messaging app, so i got chompSMS but then alot of my texts were sent twice
trollogen rom is good to me, run smooth sense 2.1.

It's quite easy to remove HTC messaging app and install the original one.

The new virtuos fusion is amazing. 3.0 is pretty much the creme de le creme. Hts dev team does a good job and rmk is a god amongst swarms of devs. I have ran pretty much all the sense roms and even though there are a few minor glitches in 3.0 I will be using it as a daily rom.

I'm using Android Revolution HD 7.0.2, and that's on GB. There's loads of work on ICS roms, but why are there if they have lots of bugs? I'm intrigued but don't think it's worth waiting for the official release. Views? What are the benefits if I switched to a ICS rom?

well you can look at videos of it and see how its different. The capabilities of the phone are better, there are more options to modify the phone. Also sense 4.0 and ics 4.0 roms are very well integrated. Here is the best one so far with sense 4.0

Q1. I have a backup of mikg, but when I did it, I was not partitioned. Is it ok to restore to it now that I'm partitioned?
Q2. Which version of sense is smoother on the evo? 3.5 or 3.0? Yes I know all about sense 1 and aosp, but I just prefer 3.0 or 3.5 (at least till sense 4.0 is done)
Thanks in advance guys/gals.

If you restore that backup without restoring SD ext, it should leave your partition intact.
As for smoothest Rom, sense 3.0 because it has a lot more working than sense 3.5
This is my signature.
Sense 3.5 in theory should be faster since it was supposed to be less bloated and use less resources. Sense 3.0 was the biggest resource hog

I get mixed up sometimes. Lol

Thanks guys. Well I guess ill stick to energy then. Love the theming. Although I may try derp 3d since I have the flashing itch. Been on mikg for a few months now

I agree Sense 3.5 is worth stickin with if you are after the Sense "feel"
there are some awesome sense 3.5 roms out there too. I used Engergy for a while before i jumped into some AOSP (CIUI AND GTR v1.6 twinturbo)... those are both cm7 based with some themeing.
Is bad battery life an innate trait of sense roms?
I have typically stuck to stockish and aosp roms so I'm a sense Noob, but this is the biggest downside of sense style that I've noticed.

yup, sense is bloat. of course every defines bloat differently, but if you like the aesthetics then its the cats meow. but no matter your preference it will inherently drain your battery more than aosp roms

sense requires more processing power then stock and takes up more ram
depends which sense u use be it from the stock 2.1 to the new 4.0 will all be slightly different
however devs have made roms that are pretty battery conversant.
and especially sense 4.0
it is very nice...
I've noticed that every ROM I've tried since switching from 4.1/Sense 4 has had small performance issues that I hadn't seen on Sense 4.
One thing that seems to be common with all 4.2+ ROMs (both Sense and AOSP) is that the notification drop-down lags noticeably, especially on the launcher. What could be the cause of this?
Also, I'd appreciate it if you guys could recommend ROMs (preferably AOSP, but Sense works) with good performance. Right now I'm running ViperX with Alex-V's kernel and I find it okay, but still a bit underwhelming.

Hmm for me it's the other way around, sense 5 has better overall performance due to the trimmed down system !
And as far as i can recommend roms.....i just cant, i will not compare roms by it's performance, every rom has it's own unique settings and tweaks. My only advice is to try them out and check which one suits you the best.
Cheers

Fair enough. I've tried about a dozen ROMs so far, and ViperX and AICP seemed to have the best performance.
Strangely enough, I just flashed a stock 4.2 ROM from ARHD to test it out, and this may just be a placebo but it actually seems to run significantly better than ViperX did. That's really strange considering I'd expect the opposite to be true.
Well things should go better when we have the kernel source released to make full tweaked custom sense 5 kernels.
And the difference in performance is different for everyone too.
The rom you mentioned is about full stock, viper is tweaked and has a highly adapted framework with a lot of tweaks. That can be less battery friendly.
