I have two questions relating to MMS on CM 10.1:
First off I just installed the 03042013 M2 Build and it was a clean install including formatting data and internal storage.
1) I am wandering is mostly everyone still using CDMA/EvDo auto instead of LTE/CDMA/EvDo under Network Mode to get MMS to work?
That is the only way I can get MMS to send/receive.
I have tried toggling back and forth. It does not make a difference whether I am on WiFi or not but, will only work on CDMA/EvDo.
2) I see a bunch of people using different MMS .apk's from AOKP and other ROMS which one is working best for you guys that doesn't have such horrible compression. I don't mind having MMS compressed as long as its not to the point where the image is grainy once sent.
Thanks.
MMS only works for me without LTE so i just use go sms whenever i need to send/receive an mms. go sms gives you an option to send with less compression but the stock mms app can be modded easily to allow higher resolution/file sizes to be sent.
So first let me say I have searched multiple sites and fourms on this question. Issue seems to be intermittent Mms wokrs perfectly when phone is initially power cycled. After a few messages mms or not then mms pictures stops working. The bizarre thing is I still get messages in mms format sent and received instantly. Gifs/pics is the issue only. I have checked the apn settings for the phone and textra and they match. I even tried "8080" for the port in both textra and the network settings. Issue seems to only happen after phone has ran for 45+ minuets. Please help as I use group messaging for a lot of my clients and friends. Thanks in advance.
P.s. I have the jedi x20 rom installed. I'll also be at work until 3 pm central time so I might not be able to try suggestions until then.
Double check the apn settings within system settings as well. Also make sure that 'activate mobile data' and use mms for group chats are on
My wife has a Galaxy Note 2 running stock Android 4.4.2. She is constantly having problems when sending and receiving SMS and MMS messages:
1. Long SMS messages (both incoming and outgoing) are split into multiple messages, and often converted to MMS
2. Incoming MMS messages don't download - there's just a message saying "downloading".
Re.1: I know that there's a 160-character limit on SMS, but is there any way of either preventing this, or at least preventing them being converted to MMS's?
Re.2: In an attempt to solve problem 2, she disabled wifi to force a connection to the TalkMobile data network. This helped MMS messages to download, but had the unpleasant side effect of "breaking" the wifi functionality on the phone - i.e. the phone would never stay connected to wifi for longer than a couple of minutes (even when sitting 6 feet from the home wifi router) - after that it would connect to the TalkMobile data network. This little bug caused her to accumulate £50 in data charges before she realised what was happening. I have since done a factory reset and this seems to have fixed the wifi problem, but has anyone else encountered this?
Is anyone else having MMS issues? I can never get MMS messages to send. Its rather annoying. I've heard of people adding a custom APN but my button to add an APN is greyed out.
The only thing I can do is toggle airplane mode a few times to get the messages to go through but it doesn't always work
Went to the sprint store today and they were baffled.
I have. New update 5/11 should take care of that. If you clear your cache it will take care of it.
Worked great man. Cleared cache on hangouts and MMS service seemed to do the trick

that's what i did after update picture would not go through and text takes a long time to send
cleared app cache and data
all is right in the world with sms
I have had a similar issue and it was fixed by turning wifi off and the message would send
My APN settings can't be edited. It doesn't let me edit, only create NEW APN's. I have my MSL and still cant change my APN settings. I could use the hotspot on the S6 SM-G925P. I'm currently non-rooted due to the recent 5.1.1 Firmware version update. Thanks.
There has always been an issue with sprint phones + Google Hangouts + MMS. For some reason hangouts will only send and receive MMS over data. If you want to test it connect to wifi, try to send an MMS over hangouts (notice that your data icon in the top bar will show). If you have poor data reception your MMS might not even send and the phone radio can get very hot. Now disable hangouts and use the stock messaging app to send an MMS. Notice that the MMS sends fine over wifi and does not activate your data.
I really love hangouts, but the inability to send and receive MMS over wifi is a deal breaker for me. Turning on data every time I get an MMS is a battery killer for me. I doubt Google/sprint will ever address this issue as it has been going on since hangouts released when I had an S2.

My experience has been the same since S2 also. Read all the MMS threads. Tried all kinds of changes to APNs. Most of the time I was running CM and blamed it for the issues. Finally tried Textra to find no problems with MMS. My conclusion was Hangouts. You can follow this Google thread if you have a couple hours to spend. All breeds of Hangouts users with same problem, with very little response from Google. My hope was for Hangouts to be for Android what imessage is to IOS. No such luck, but still hopeful. Until then, I use Textra with no problems.
I've been attempting to use XHangouts and the APN splicing feature to get Hangouts 4 to send / receive MMS through my carrier number, and no dice. Has anyone gotten this working on the Sprint S6? I'd, in theory, love to be able to use Hangouts for both the new Voice group chatting AND normal MMS functions but it seems like I can either downgrade to Hangouts 3 or deal with using another SMS client for carrier MMS.
Hi folks,
I've got a new problem that started after I updated my D851 from (stock/rooted) Lollipop to (stock/rooted) Marshmallow.
When I'm home, I've got a decent LTE signal (ATT, though using the T-Mobile phone variant). But since I'm home, my phone connects to my wifi and uses it for data. I have no problem making/receiving calls or SMS texts to a single person at a time.
However, as long as I'm connected to WIFI (with my cellular signal present but not used for data due to the WIFI), neither MMS nor group texts work. In the stock Messages app, or the Messaging app I actually usually use, these MMS or group texts sit there as "sending..."
If I turn off the wifi, the cellular data signal is used immediately and the texts go through. Same goes for receiving MMS.
Again, this only happens since the marshmallow update that I applied a couple weeks ago.
I have not found a fix. I found lots of people complaining, and a few proposed solutions, like changing the APN so that the APN Protocol would be set to IPv4/IPv6 instead of the default IPv4. See here for that reference, though it didn't work for me:
https://support.t-mobile.com/thread/61843?tstart=0
Anybody have a fix for this? it's a real problem particularly for incoming messages. I can always toggle wifi off if I want to send something, but not knowing when something is coming in gets to be a problem. SMS from single conversations come through.
Please help me troubleshoot this. I've googled my fingers to the bone and while I've found reports of issues like this going back years, no actual solutions that work for me.
HELP!
There's one workaround so far... using Textra as the messaging app. It has an option called the T-Mobile Wifi Calling fix (in Settings/MMS/scroll down to bottom). Even though my wifi calling is set to off, since I'm on ATT, enabling this setting in Textra automatically toggles off WiFi to send MMS/group sms, and it does the same when it detects an attempted incoming MMS.
I much prefer the Google Messages app, for a variety of reasons, and I'm looking to figure out a real fix rather than this workaround. Any help most appreciated.
