Hey guys,
I've gotten myself into a bit of a pickle. I've been using custom roms for a while, I installed Illusion Rom (4.2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2352640), some time after that clock work recovery stopped working - I have no idea why.
Tonight I tried to fix it with Odin and Samsung Galaxy Note2 ToolKit. Using Toolkit, I tried to launch clock work recovery from there, unfortunately it's put my phone into a bootloop no matter what I do. I can only access Download mode and my computer isn't recognising it in Odin. I'm not concerned about my existing data as I regularly make backups.
I'd really appreciate some help! Thanks.
tl;dr - How do I factory reset just using download mode?
I highly recommend looking at this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=38169310
Saved my bacon, it did. The only way I got Odin detect the phone was
switching the phone off, plugging it into the PC, firing up Odin and then
entering Download mode. Strange how that's the only way it'd work, but
there you go.
EDIT: It's stated in the above thread that it's only for people who are new
to XDA, but the links that are provided to Odin and the recovery package
are invaluable.
My bacon has also been saved. Thank you!

Okay, I tried to take the easy route to get my phone rooted and over clocked. I should also mention i'm on US T-mo
I was able to gain route via samsung toolkit. I searched around for an easy overclock method. I searched and found a youtube vid for Perseus and ended up using alpha 11 as linked in the video via Odin. Shortly after the task was completed, my phone attempted to restart. However, it was only a black screen although I did hear a vibrate. I quickly searched around and tried flashing Perseus's newer alpha20. Still same thing. I have no clue what I'm doing at this point and fear I have bricked my phone.
I can access download mode as well as custom recovery. But I don't know what to do at this point. Help please! I need my phone to work tomorrow for work! ack! I just got this phone 2 days ago. =(
I've tried wiping data/factory reset through custom recovery. Nothing. I've really screwed this one up. Is there something I can download and flash through Odin? Seems like I can only get in download mode and recovery mode which is pretty useless.
Why don't you flash mrRobinson's LH2 w/root through Odin and you should be good to go.
Good luck at work today btw.
Wood! Nice to see you around here. <3
Hi, did you manage to fix your phone? Last night I did kernel update on my samsung n7000 and after update via Odin>PDA option> loding PhilZ-cwm6-XXLSC-XJB-3.99.tar.md5.tar> and push start, my phone restarted and instead android OS get black screen with no sound. Display still work for download mode and battery charging.
I changed the lcd density of my tablet and now I have a constant bootloop.
I do not have custom recovery installed and I am rooted with CF-Auto Root.
I tried to boot into safe mode which I believe is by holding down the up and down volume buttons while it is booting up but that just turns off the tablet.
I am able to go to stock recovery.
I tried the factory rest there but it still boot loops.
I have no idea what I should do now.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
The nice thing about samsung devices is being able to recover from most bootloops and bricks buy putting the device into download mode. If you can get into download mode, you can unbrick it. Put it in download mode, then you will need to install samsung usb drivers to your pc, download official samsung firmware, and flash it via odin. Doing this will completely wipe your system and you will not be rooted. But that that should get you back up and running.

This should also help since you are able to get into recovery...

Thank you so much for your response. So I am in download mode and I am useing the Galaxy note 8 toolkit but when I try to use odin to do a stock recovery that i had downloaded I am stuck in waiting for usb debugging to be enabled. i do not know what to do. -_-
Try running through it again. If you cant get it to work, then try the samsung method using kies via the link above. That official method should not require usb debugging.
Also try this method....

I managed to get cwm loaded up and flashed 4.2.2 rom. It worked flawlessly. I tried to flash two of the stock roms that samsung had provided but both failed for me. My lesson is to always have a backup and do not mess with the lcd density. lol Thanks so much for your help though. I got this problem solved in less than 10 hours. I think that is a win in my book.
Lol. No problem. Yes, before you do anything, be sure you know how to recover if it fails and you have the resources to do it with. I had that learning experience a long time ago. Remember, with samsung devices, you can recover as long as you can get into download mode. You have to really screw up bad to break download mode.

Hi -
I've looked around for someone actually fixing the problem that I have and haven't found it yet. There are lots of people that have had their phone stuck at a boot screen (either the Galaxy screen or the 4G screen) and were able to hold a combo of buttons (for me Vol. Up/Home/Power) and do a data wipe/factory reset. I have not been able to get any of the options on that screen to get me any further in my boot process. I'm resorting to installing a custom ROM, but have not done so before. Also, I cannot get access to my phone to install any necessary apps to assist in the flashing process. I can get to the ROM screen holding Vol. Down/Power and would appreciate instructions on how to install a ROM form there. I'm assuming I will download a file on my computer (Linux Ubuntu 13.04), connect my phone via USB cable and load the ROM onto my phone. I'm interested in CM10.1 (heard good things) but see that only Nightly builds are available. I've got the CM10.1 download, but am not sure if that is the right way to approach this problem. I've read through rwilco12's tutorials, but it looks like you need Odin installed on your phone to be able to do anything. Again, I don't have access to my phone to do this.
Any help would be appreciated.

I would recommend learning to use Heimdall to flash roms in Ubuntu. And I would start back at stock until you get out of bootloop land, then try fishing custom roms. Good luck

I've been flashing nightlies for CM11 from their website for a while now using the latest CWM, and I've been reading up on Open Recovery scripts and apparently CWM isn't compatible which would make flashing nightlies so much easier.. So I used the goo.im app in the Play Store to flash the latest TWRP for my Note 2, it said flash complete and I went to go check it what the recovery looks like and it's not getting past the splash screen. I've tried putting it in download mode to see if there was anything I could flash to fix it, and my PC isn't picking it up through Odin. What can I do? I've let it sit at the splash screen for a while now and it's doing nothing. I've switch USB ports on my PC, I've even reinstalled the SAMSUNG_USB_DRIVERS, and it's still not reading the device through Odin, but it's sitting here at the Odin download mode. Thanks for any help in advance guys. Was there anything I was supposed to do before flashing the TWRP recovery .img?
Edit: and just for clarification.. I did Google search a few queries related to my question and got no real clear answers. I know I'm still kind of new, but I'm not dumb either. Haven't had too many issues switching roms etc, just switching recoveries.
Edit2: Another thing to add, is when you plug the Note 2 into the computer, it reads it as "Gadget Serial". I updated to Odinv3.09 and it's not reading my Note 2 so I could flash stock firmware.
Hi Guys,
After playing with a lot of different roms on this tablet, i was content with CM12. I thought also now would be a good time to update TWRP from the ROM itself. So, i downloaded the TWRP manager, told it my device and told it to update. It asked me if the location for recovery was ok, and i (assumed....so its me being stupid) told it it was.......
Now my tablet wont boot anymore, i only get to see the "downloading" screen with the android dude. I love the android dude, but not so much that he's all i want to see
I tried using odin to re-apply the TWRP file from there, but it just is stuck at "initialization". I tried doing the same with the stock firmware from Sammobile, but the same thing happens.
I know there HAS to be a way to get it working again as it is still powering on...but i am running out of ideas. Can anyone please help me? If you're in town i will treat you to a nice Jopen bier
Thanks guys,
Yves

What Device you have? When you flash TWRP with Odin, do you uncheck Auto Reboot? I always uncheck it then power off then press Power, Home and Vol up to boot TWRP. Maybe no help.

Sorry, Samsung galaxy tab pro 10.1, sm-t520 aka picassowifi.
Auto reboot does not change anything... Still stops at 'initialization'.
I cannot get anywhere else but the downloading screen...
Thanks so far
I know you can't take the battery out but I been reading to let it die. Then plug it in works for some.
Note 4 Port Evolution 3.0
I drained it...when I get home I will try the Odin method. I'm starting to worry though....
Thanks again
Thanks for your help guys! The battery drain did the trick! I successfully installed the new TWRP and new CM 12.1
Thanks guys!

Glad it's working! :good:
How to drain battery?
Good to hear it worked for you but how did you drained the battery. I dont know how to drain it if I cant use the tablet ( and I believe my tablet is fully charged)
I am in a similar situation.
I have SM-T900 (Galaxy Tab PRO 12.2) and when I flashed TWRP 2.8.7.0 (for v2wifixx) for the first time over the stock recovery. It was successful and booted into recovery, but then it was not able to wipe any data. It gave some errors which I do not remember right now.
Then I tried re-flashing the same but it is not booting back into recovery, anymore after more than 5 attempts. When am re-flashing the TWRP, it is showing SUCCESS in Odin but the device is not booting into recovery. Current situation is that I cannot power it off nor boot into recovery. All it is allowing me is to get into download mode. Also, I have Kies 3/Smart Switch installed and NONE of them is recognizing the device in download mode either. However, am able to login to the download mode and reflash the twrp recovery image file.
Currently, opened the back cover and removed the battery connector and re-connected it and that is only way I could get the power off. I will try to re-flash TWRP again in the evening today.
I am posting here to ask for any other ideas. Is there anything else that I can try?
Thanks.

Finally fixed the issue.
I downloaded the firmware from www.sammobile.com for SM-T900 (Cellular South) having the PDA version as T900UEUBOI2 and this is for US. I downloaded the latest (v5.1.1) as of this writing.
I switched ON the tab in download mode and connected to computer using the USB. It appeared in Odin (I used v3.10.7). I flashed the firmware file downloaded (link in above para) and it roughly took 3 mins to show SUCCESS. Since, I selected the Auto Reboot in Odin, it tried to reboot but the device has been going through bootloop. At this point, I powered OFF the device and tried to boot into recovery. After couple of trials, it booted into recovery. I did a "wipe data - factory reset" an rebooted the device and it worked guys. I finally happy to see the device coming back to life.. however with the stock rom. However, I did not root the device as of this writing.
It worked finally. Hope this would help others.

Hi I am in a similar situation. I flashed CM12 on my Tab pro 8.4 wifi. Left it untouched for a month or 2. That mean battery fully drained. Then I tried to charged but no luck. The tab only shows a hollow grey battery icon with a static circle in the middle. Cannot boot to recovery mode but only download mode. No charging at all.
I tried the button combo like holding down power + vol up 20s, etc. No luck. I then bought a battery and changed it....shxt, same!
Then I used KIES to flash stock rom. A bit better now I can see the samsung text but freezed there. Anyone can help?
