Hey everybody.
At first I wanna say that i've flicked through some topics and none of them helped so I decided to get this thread.
I wanted to root my nexus 7, so I used wugu nexus root toolkit. Everything was done, device seems to be rooted etc. But I wanted to connect it to my pc and there's no response. I want the MTP mode back when there was a cute Nexus 7 icon at my computer. Okaay. So then I wanted to connect my Galaxy S running CM 10.1 (usb storage mode) aaaand no response ! The thing is that gt-i9000 is visible in devices

When I connect Nexus 7 it says that Android ADB interface is an older device and cannot be connected to usb 3.0. Alright, so I connected it to usb 2.0 and Nexus 7 shows up at the bottom of the devices in the unassigned devices,
I remember before I rooted the device and installed drivers from the toolkit, in device manager there was a Nexus 7 device instead of now "Android Device - Android ADB Interface". Can you help me get things fixed ? I'm running out of time because I'm leaving my country soon for a long time and I wanted to prepare both of my devices...
Oh and if that helps, I run windows 8 x64 on my laptop. I know some people may say that this is the reason but before i rooted nexus, everything had worked fine.
Thanks in advance !
Try and switch mode to camera instead of mtp device under storage.

I have windows xp on 3 computers and I don't have a problem. Where did you get the drivers from? Do you have any conflicting apps like pdanet? Are you getting the mtp error when installing the driver or plunging your phone in?

I had kies installed on my computer from my sgs2. Once I deleted it, drivers installed just fine.

I had to upgrade to Windows Media Player 10 for the drivers to install correctly.
SOLUTION
First remove MTP from device manager
Install the Microsoft User Mode Driver Framework for WinXP here.
Connect your phone
So when I plug my S3 with a USB cord and try to view my photos, I can't preview any of them, I have to manually click each one to see the picture. Is there a way so I can see all of them at once so I can choose which ones I want? I've tried MPT and PTP mode and neither shows me the preview. This is all I get. I've tried updating Kies & that just made it worse & not read my entire phone at all so I removed Kies. Also I can't even get the phone to show up on my Mac, when I plug it into my MBP nothing just pops up. So for now I"m using Airdroid to view all my photos so I'm able to choose which ones I want to drag to my comp but it would be nice to be able to do it from windows explorer since that's much faster. I'm on stock rooted rom 4.04 with all the bloatware removed using titanium backup

I don't know much about Mac's but I know with Windows 7 the only way to see thumbnails is to use Kies or remove your SDCard and mount it directly (assuming you are saving images to your card). Even though the MTP protocol supports thumbnails, Microsoft's implementation of it in Win7 doesn't (and based on your post, I'm guessing Mac doesn't either).
Let's hope that Windows 8 (and the next Mac OS) do a better job with MTP.

The S2 doesn't use MTP mode.

I hope this bumps the thread :\
I gave up trying to use my mbp. As for windows best bet is just moving them all to your HDD.
I used WugFresh's toolkit to unlock and root my Nexus 7. I also kept the stock recovery, so that I could receive OTA updates. So when I got the notification that an update was available, I downloaded it and tried to update my Nexus, but it would fail and show this message

}
So then I plug my Nexus 7 to my computer, but my computer does not recognize it.
I've tried:
- switching from MTP to PTP and vice versa
- turning USB debugging on/off
- deleting relevant drivers using WugFresh's toolkit and then reinstalling drivers
- plugging in my Nexus 5, and then plugging in my Nexus 7
- doing a factory reset
It charges fine, and makes a sound when plugging/unplugging. It just always shows up as an unknown device. I've tried plugging into my desktop and my laptop, and neither recognizes the Nexus. I'm using the cable that came with my Nexus 7
you should of updated recovery and skip OTA, have you tried the normal way adb and fastboot?.
you boot into android os?,since the installation failed it shouldnt of overwritten the partition. i would use flashify and flash recovery and go from there.
sorry if not helpful, i never kept stock recovery, i only OTA on non rooted devices, i prefer downloading and flashing via CWM/TWRP
I'll give flashify a try. I just wanna keep as close to stock as possible. And yeah, I can boot it up, and it's useable. The computer won't recognize it, and I can't update OTA.
I'm using Windows 7 64bit and had some problems with installing driver.
Now my Nexus 7 connected to my computer.

but it should appear these folders
what should i do? I've installed and uninstalled the driver several times...
and when i transfer Music folder, it say 'this kind of files could not be able to operate in your device. copy them anyway?'(sorry for my bad english. it was written in korean)
I transfer those files anyway and those file could be able to play in my device. what is the problem?
these error are driving me crazy...
Don't worry about the compatibility error. As long as you have an app that will play the file you will be fine.

Take a look at my post here, it might help. Might try a different usb cable also.
Yeah the cable might be the problem

You have no problem with your cable or drivers. This is a bug known about for a long time - I don't know if it has been addressed in the latest beta release. See: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=38282
guys I can not reconnect the phone to the PC I get this error
If you're using type C - type C cable, try a type A - type C.
i am using the classic type c cable

What does classic mean? Just make sure there's usb A on the computer side... Do you have USB debugging and OEM unlocking enabled in developer settings?
yes all active
You didn't install a fastboot driver..
I had the same problem i applied this:

You sir are saint...I've been trying to get fastboot to recognize my OP6T for the last 8 hours. Thank you so much!

This resolved the same issue for me as well. Odd though, because it was working fine for me a couple of months ago.
This is a windows problem, and as others stated downloading the fastboot driver does work, I had to manually install it as an optional update through Windows Update last time it happened, but I prefer to use Linux, as this is one of those "just works" scenarios on there (albeit MSM tool requires Windows, and unaware of a workaround)
