Google maps navigation - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Before, when I was using my phone as a gps a couple months back, the Google maps navigation would always show me a street view of the next turn that was coming up. I got the new Google maps 7.1 update and now that feature is gone. Is there any way to get that back?

[Q]: Google street view direction arrows

Hello, does anybody know how the direction arrows (to move along the streets) can be made visible?
They are visible on a Sony smartphone but not on my Samsung Galaxy 9000. I can only move forward by means of the pegman. I already updated to the latest version of Google maps and Streetview.
Thx in advance!

Well, I installed Streetview for Google Maps (by Google inc.) to get rid of those arrows and i find the little peg man much quicker and easier
But if you want the arrows back, uninstall streetview add on. You will still have streetview and your arrows will be back
Streetview is in the Menu, if i remember right you click menu then more in Maps
Thx mate

GPS and 11

Since upgrading to 11 the gps works with maps but not the browser. If I click on update on the google home page, the gps icon doesn't even come on.
Thanks so much

What do you mean it doesn't work with the browser?
If I click update on the google home page to get local info, it does not envoke gps. It does work fine on maps, albeit slower than 8.

Your location settings are enabled?

google maps

Let's see if I can explain it....
When I was on GB, I was using Maps (NOT Navigation) and it
would SPEAK the street names.
Now, on ICS I can NOT use maps as main navigation, but you
have to actually push "navigate" button to go someplace (and "navigation"
is NOT speaking the street names).
What I'm trying to say is, before the Maps will SPEAK the name
of the street, but now it does NOT!
Anyone knows what changed?
you could try clearing map cache, force close, and restarting the app
Thanks but that didn't work.
I fired up Telenav and it works good, speaking out the street names.
But I want to use Google Maps like I used to, with spoken street names.
I think in the last update they took away that feature.

You have to clear all data for maps...then start it back up...

Clearing the data did not work.
However, I fixed it.
What happened is this...
I use Ivona text to speech engine, and I moved it to the SD card.
After that it did not read anything anymore, including the street names in Maps.
I restored Ivona back to the phone and now it reads everything OK.
Thanks for your time and answers.

Latitude necessary for Google now?

I have set up my work and home location through location settings properly. Google now seems to be detecting it properly as it shows time to get home whenever I'm out. Can I sign out of latitude now and have it continue working since I don't want any additional battery drain from latittude. Thanks!

Hi Terence you don't need latitude at all to use Google now. Your traffic habits and commuter info are independent of latitude Altogether. Hath.

[Q] Google Now keeps wanting to install?

Hi all
I don't have Google Now installed.
But when I want to use Google regular search, either from the search bar on top of homescreen or from the app drawer, Google Now keeps trying to install itself. Can I permanently remove Now? And just have regular search?
It is almost like Google Search is advertising Now, but I don't want it ask me to install Now every time, I just want to go straight to search.
Even hitting the microphone opens the Google Now install window, then I must hit the back button to go back to regular search.
This is for CM10.1
Thanks
Heeter
Uh Google search is Google now, that's the evolution of search, the only way I know to not get Google now is to search from Google Web page if you install Google search it is all your going to get.

Interesting and I've never noticed that before but I've never not had a reason to.
Looking at the app, Google Now is what Google has built their app around. You can go to your browser and do a search without getting this issue correct?

Perhaps try turning off the history?
It says it "may" disable functions such as Google Now, but I doubt it can be disabled. Search from webpage is my guess.
