My girlfriend has downloaded an image from internet by long pressing the image and then selecting "save image" on her Wildfire S with stock Android 2.3.3.
The problem is that the phone keeps downloading this image over and over again even when it is already downloaded. It tries to download the image about every sync action for over a week already.
Before i just delete the whole history i thought maybe someone here knows the answer to this problem, so she can avoid it in the future.
Many thanks for your help!
Hi, I have similar problem, but with applications. Sometimes phone starts downloading already installed app. Even if I set all apps to manual update only.
This behavior is really killing my data plan limit!
My friend with the same phone has this problem too.
Anyone have similar problem or solution to fix it?
The same with me. Does anybody know how to fix it?
Same here. Must be something specific to the wildfire S
I've got the same issue. I guess it'll go away once I can flash a CyanogenMod or MIUI ROM
Works for me alright
Sent from my HTC Wildfire S A510e using XDA App
It's worth completely removing the offending application and then reinstalling it. I had the download issue with 'LED Light'. Removed it and reinstalled it and problem resolved.
I now have the same issue with another appl - will try the same solutoin
It seems to happen when you do an update which is interrupted partway
We ported this rom on the Aria and had the same issue. I replaced the DownloadProvider.apk and DownloadProviderUI.apk with the ones in CM7 and it now works fine.

Here are the apps. You need to delete them from your current rom and replace them for these.
How do I delete them without root access? My Wildfire S is not and can not be rooted at the moment

I assumed the Wildfire S was "rootable". That's a very goo question. You can try something but I have absolutely no guaranties it is going to work because I personally never tried it. Either way, it's your call.
**Make sure you back-up your phone to the Google Server because this will wipe all the data in your phone.**
1- Run the RUU for your phone. This will extract the rom to the temp folder of your computer. For me it's under C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\. An easy way to find it is to clear that folder prior to running the RUU. This way, it should be the only thing in there.
2- Enter the folder and look for a zip file called rom.zip
3- Open the zip file using 7-zip or Winzip. DO NO EXTRACT THE FILES ON YOUR COMPUTER TO REPACKAGE AFTER. THIS WILL SCREW UP THE ROM. You really want to make any addition or subtraction from the archiving utility.
4- Extract the system.img file. Now the challenge is to find a way to edit the content of that file. I personally have no idea how to but I'm sure there must be some tools to do that.
5- Once you've managed to open the .img file, under system/app, there should be DownloadProvider.apk and DownloadProviderUI.apk. Delete those and replace them with the ones I sent in my previous post.
6- Close the .img file.
7- From 7-zip, delete the system.img file and replace it with the one you edited.
8- Close 7-zip and follow the rest of the instructions from the RUU.
Again, no idea if any of this will work because I've never been in the situation to make changes on an unrooted phone. Your biggest challenge is step 4. If you cannot get in that .img file, then I guess you'll have to wait to get root access to your phone. My guess is that it shouldn't be too long since HTC agreed to unlock the HBoot.
Good Luck!
And is it possible to change this files in a "running" ROM Image (rooted, without flashing)?

I think so. Like I said, I never tried it so it's all speculation here. How about you try to install the apk on top of the ones you currently have, i.e. without deleting them? You do have the ablility to install from Unknown Sources correct?

Yes i have. But I'm new to Android, so I want to be careful.
I replaced both in system\app folder (without installing) and after that my market doesn't work anymore.
So I had to flash my ROM cause the Backup files didn't work too.
Was a lot of work, making all new (but at least Titanium Backup works ).
Maybe somebody other knows more?

I am a bit confused here. What do you mean by you replaced in system/app without installing? Also, you said you used Titanium Backup. I thought this app only worked on rooted phone
Unfortunately, I cannot be of much help because I really have an Aria with a ported rom from Wildfire S. I personally fixed the download issue by deleting and reinstalling these apps, but in reality, I have no idea if that would work on the actual Wildfire S. Sorry that I cannot be of any help.
My phone is rooted.
I mean I changed the apk files in folder system/app with those from you (using Root Explorer). Before I deleted them I made a backup of the original ones.

Ok, so try this then. Delete the apk and don't replace them. Flash the Rom and boot the phone. Then install the apk from ur original Rom, i.e. not the ones I provided, but the ones u originally deleted.

I already flashed my Phone with original ROM and it works again, but the bug is again there.
The point is, I dont want to flash my ROM every week so I hoped there is a solution to change without flashing again.
Otherwise I will wait, my there will be a fix from HTC.
But I wanna say thank you, for your help and your patience with me!

I'm with you on the flashing. I'm not sure HTC will release a fix for this though. However, what u can do is return ur phone and get another one. It seems not everybody has this issue. I'm personally glad I could resolve it on my phone.
Good luck!
Hi everyone,
this is my very first post so I hope I'm not making any mistake posting here instead of somewhere else.
I installed this ROM yesterday (incredible and awesome job, btw) but no conversations.apk was in it and I had to install Hardcent SMS to handle the messaging.
Is it normal or I made something wrong? I also checked the rom .zip before posting.
I searched for infos in the official thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399238) but I've found nothing.
Thanks in advance,

Dunno - unless you didn't flash bigxie's gapps file immediately afterwards before rebooting, but in that case you'd be missing more than just messaging. I assume you did a full wipe first as per instructions.
I installed Apex 1.0.2 and have the native sms apk, although I didn't test it since I prefer Handcent and have disabled native texting.
Maybe your flash had a hiccup, you could try reflashing...
or open up the zip file and see if there's a conversations.apk in it.
I just updated from Apex 1.0.0 to 1.0.2 and I had the stock SMS application on both versions. You may have forgotten to flash the gapps package. Unlike CM7 and other Gingerbread ROMs, the gapps package needs to be flashed along with the ROM every time you update/install.

Hi Clancy_s,
thank you for your reply. I followed the instructions line-by-line as always and also I tried to download again the rom and flash it a second time but nothing...
As I said, I also checked the zip file in order to get the apk and put it manually on /system/app, but I couldn't find it!!
Now you're telling me that you have the stock messaging app on your phone and you also have the same rom I have... that's strange!
Could you please check your rom .zip and look for conversation.apk?

I can but it'll have to wait a couple of days - I'm away from home for the next 3 and like to use a pc for that sort of thing.
I upgraded from Apex 1.0.0 so it's possible the conversation.apk carried over from there...
goo-inside.me/roms/fabolous/maguro/bigxie_maguro_Apex_v1-0-2.zip
<-- link to actuall gapps
i also need to reinstall it after updating from 9.2 -> apex1.0 (namechange) to get sync with google acc
so...I downloaded the file...again... (third time!) and unzipped it.
Am I crazy or there is no conversation.apk in it?
seriously guys: where is it?
it should be in System/App, am I right?
why it isn't there?
today I wiped my phone and flashed for the third time, with the brand new file downloaded few seconds before, after that I flashed the gappas (without rebooting the phone) and THEN I made a reboot.
Still no conversation.apk....??
--tyler--
im on easydoesit v2.2 and im having trouble mounting in root explorer...if i reboot enough times i can get it to mount but the files that i delete or add don't save...
for example...im trying to delete apex launcher since i have go launcher...when i delete the apk it says file deleted...but when i click refresh it comes back
is this a problem specific to the rom or are others having the same problem on other ICS roms?
if anyone knows how to fix this please help
thanks in advance
I had some odd Superuser issues on Raver's ROM, so I flashed Wrathdu's latest Superuser binary and it seems to have fixed that. Search for Wrathdu or Zeppelinrox, he posted it too

Try without fixing, most likely will work too. I use Root Explorer app to move files and fix permisions. You do need to be rooted.
I've tried moving both files to /system/app and fixing permissions. When trying to launch browser it crashes. I tried both manually fixing permissions in root browser, and trying to fix permissions in recovery. Permissions match that of all the other apps that appear to be in /system/app directory.
I really like the AOSP browser so I'm willing to try other things to get this working. Do you think you could get both files into a flashable zip we could flash from recovery?
I will try to build one myself to see if I can get it working that way.
Follow the directions from this post....

Made a flashable zip that got it installed. Bookmarks don't appear to be syncing for me, but then again I really don't use chrome to have anything to sync. Someone want to confirm if that's working?

I'm not a DEV in any way, I just tinker with things. I take no responsibility for what this does or doesn't do to your device. I've tested this on my device, and can confirm it works, however I'm not perfect at these things. Flash at your own risk. As always make a backup first!

Zip is attached. Following along what they said in that other post.
Find and rename the following apk(inside the /system/app folder): BrowserProviderProxy.apk to BrowserProviderProxy.apk11 (or anything else really).
Do that before you install the zip file.
Just reboot to recovery and flash the zip.

Dont know what you guys are doing wrong. I am not a dev. I just moved those 2 files to /system/app/ and I have AOSP Browser and sync works fine (i am rooted on latest firmware by the way)
ps. also moved AOSP Keyboard with Dictionaries and it also works fine
Got sync for bookmarks to work. Forgot to check sync in settings. I think just moving the files probably would have worked if I had renamed the BrowserProviderProxy.apk in /system/app to begin with, but I had already started making the flashable zip. I figure it will be useful to someone at some point.
Thanks for the flashable zip I couldn't get it to work any other way.
My only question is why can I not rearrange my bookmarks? When I'm in the bookmark screen the menu button doesn't give me any options and long pressing on them doesn't give me the option to reorder them.

anyone has an apk of the flashplayer to reinstall ?
Tried the slap fix. Checked cpu z and my sensors look normal but I'm not sure really what they should look like. Tried turning rotation off then rebooting then turning back on. I have xposed, I saw another forum where someone said they disabled something in xposed to fix it but they didn't say what. Any help is greatly appreciated. I've done the dev conversion and rooted.
Have you uninstalled any apps (especially using Titanium Backup)?
Trying to uninstall Facebook or Instagram using Titanium Backup broke screen rotation for me. Manually deleting the app folders in /system/app/ was fine, though.

I did uninstall both of them with tb. And like the smart person I am I made no backup. Help?
Edit: Would installing from the app store fix it?
Edit:Edit: I tried, it didn't work. What can I do?
Is there a place I can download the apks from the stock image? I have the stock incremented one installed from here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...nt/firmware-safe-upgrade-to-lollipop-t3313224
Would that even fix this issue?
It's not so much the apps themselves that's the issue, apparently TB deletes some system libraries that affect screen rotation.
The easiest/safest thing to do would be to reflash one of the safe upgrade options and re-root the phone. Deleting most apps with TB seems to be safe, but manually delete Facebook & Instagram.
Glad to hear the cause of this issue has been narrowed down to the uninstall of Insta and Facebook from system apps. Do you know if it's still safe to disable these apps by using something like Root App Disabler?
This worked for me. Dont flash , just copy the file in the zip to where it needs to go and reboot. It should be fine. Ofcourse make a backup in case.

I have disabled Facebook and Instagram using Titanium Backup and later manually deleted the apps from /system without affecting screen rotation.
The only issue appears to be using Titanium Backup to uninstall them.
I, too, have this problem with Jasmine v7.0. I have deinstalled facebook via TB and now screen rotation no longer works. I tried the libgnustl_shared.so fix but that does not seem to work for me as screen rotation is still broken. If anyone has another idea I am willing to give it a try. Otherwise I think I may re-flash Jasmine and manually remove facebook.

I would try a dirty flash of the exact version of the ROM you're using. It should reinstall the missing programs without messing much else up.

If you can't find anything else that works, wiping and re-flashing with Jasmine 7.0 definitely does. I flashed + deleted facebook quite a few times before I realized it was causing the screen rotation bug. It's tedious, but it will get rid of the problem.
Seems like facebook deletion via TB is not the only way to break screen rotation. I did a test and deleted several apps via TB (but left facebook installed) and I cannot pinpoint exactly which one broke rotation I can confirm that screen rotation did stop working. Therefore it seems that the best route altogether would be to delete apps manually instead of using TB to do so.

I'm running Jasmine V7, MM. Can you please tell me what ROM your fix worked for. I tried downloading, copy pasting "libgnustl_shared.so" to correct folder (mine was missing). Then, battery out/ reboot -didn't work. Other Note: I don't think I can dirty flash my ROM in the traditional sense as Jasmine V7 was only released in backup form. I would have wipe and to do fresh install. (This would suck as it mine is heavily modified) -THX!
