Normally on a Samsung phone you can only get the serving cell PCI (e digit) in the LTE debug screen. I have read Signal Check Pro with CM 10.2 using the 8/30 build (not 9/11) the app will show the GCI (large HEX number) identifier for the serving cell. Will this work with my Note or am I still out of luck because Samsung doesn't provide the hooks needed to see the GCI sent by the cell site.?

I'm posting this info as I searched for 3 hours and couldn't easily find this info concerning setting up a nexus on att.
First off I'm 99.9 sure that the nexus never displays 'H+' like some other samsungs. So if you don't see 'H+' it doesn't mean that your not on H+.
The only way I found that is sure is in to go to: about phone->status->mobile network type. When the phone is not using data it shows hsdpa:9. When the phone is using data and it is on H+ it will show hspap:15.
If you continue to see hsdpa:9 you need to correct your data plan to a 4g plan or fix your APNs.
H+ is not in the system UI, hspap is displayed as hspa on 4.0.4, I have att as well

HSPAP
I'm running 4.04 and show HSPAP.
Go into the system information option in settings and click on "status" if hsdpa:9 is shown you have hsdpa, if hsdpa:15 is displayed you have hsdpa+.

So I am on ATT with the standard $25 data plan and I only ever see hsdpa:9. What do I need to do to be able to get hsdpa:15 or hspa+? I havent registered the phone with them or anything, and am using the "3G" sim from my old captivate. I am running the latest stock 4.04.

it's mostly a problem of the towers. some of them either don't support hsdpa+.
or your signal is not strong enough for hsdpa+ so get pulled down to normal hsdpa.
Those of you with ATT and getting hsdpa:15...which radio are you running?
att settings
Here's what I did:
make sure your data plan with att is set right. if its not you'll never get it to work. mine works on 4g with 'smartphone 4g' plan. att wont recognize your imei as a smartphone so wont be able to configure a data plan. you need to give them an imei from an att 4g phone or borrow one or have someone at the att store put in the imei from one of the store demo phones or whatever but if you don't get a 4g plan it will never work.
for apn's is use 'phone' for 'default, supl, mms'. google the details.

I unlocked my phone and bought the tmobile sim activation kit from straight talks website. After adding it to my account and waiting overnight for everything to transfer I'm able to make phone calls and text, but can't send mms, surf the Web, and the data shows E in an area that tmobile site says there is 4g coverage. I've checked the apn against several websites and it seems to be correct. Shouldn't I be getting 4g or tmobile equivalent?
If APN settings is correct you may need to update radio, don't use straight talk myself so I can't say specifically what works best

The above should link you to how to change radios, also are you sure you have a g2 and not a dz? As this have different hardware radio bands that don't work with tmobiles hspa, just a thought

Ya, it's an HTC g2 by tmobile. I had it on tmobile before I switched to Verizon.

I enjoy my new Nexus 7 LTE very much. But one thing bothers me. I have a LTE sim card in the tablet but I always see 4G symbol beside the signal bars instead of LTE. Actually I never seen LTE symbol since day one I put in the sim. Even at the same time my note 3 can have full bars of LTE signal, the tablet only shows 4G. The note 3 tested 100Mbps down on the speedtest.net but the Nexus 7 only has 50Mbps down when the 4G symbol is on. My carrier is Rogers in Canada. Can anyone tell me if this is normal or something is wrong with my tablet?
Mine always shows 4G only. If I use any other widget (like Zooper widget) that determines and shows connection type, it says LTE.
what's the top speed of your N7 on cell network?

Yes and no for me on AT&T.
I activated a SIM on AT&T on the Nexus 7 2013 4G/LTE and it shows LTE in US.
But, I used the AT&T SIM I activated on Nexus 7 2012 3G on my Nexus 7 2013 and it never shows LTE, only H (HSPA). The transfer speeds on LTE are greater than HSPA on the same Nexus 7 2013 4G/LTE..
Given the Nexus 7 2013 responds different on the same AT&T network at the same physical location just using 2 differently activated SIM gives me a clue there must be some difference in the network settings. I have not yet looked into the details exactly what happens different on the two AT&T SIM but this might help you.
I suspect the network configuration must be changed for LTE access, and it may have nothing to do with the Nexus 7 2013 4G/LTE hardware. It is possible there is some AT&T throttling based on activation but I have no idea how they could do this on a per-device basis (outside my network configuration).

You have to call AT&T to "register" your imei number corresponding to the sim card you are using. Once you do that you will gain lte access. Mine was hspa until I called them.

Just done a test and found something very interesting, just like to report back.
I picked a spot where has very good LTE signal.
First I tested the speed on my Note3 and N7 with its own SIMs. My note3 showed LTE symbol and speed around 80Mbps. The N7 shows 4G symbol and speed around 70Mbps which is in the ballpark with Note3.
Then I switched the SIMs. The note3 still showed LTE symbol with N7 SIM in it. N7 showed 4G with the Note3 SIM in it. The speed test was about same as the first test.
My conclusion is that there is something in N7 doesn't like the Rogers network so the tablet always shows 4G even it is actually connected on LTE network and functioning on LTE speed.

I found it is possible to swap SIM on the same network provider without the tablet noticing, and the results might not change because the SIM settings are unchanged. There should be a tablet reboot involved when swapping SIM, so the new SIM settings are actually applied. I suspect you might have done a valid test, or it may be possible the settings did not update between SIM changes.
What I do is swap out one SIM, insert a SIM from another provider and boot up to configure settings for a second provider or at least clear out the first provider (the SIM does not have to be active), and insert the second SIM from same provider as first and boot up. This has worked very well. It might be enough to simply reboot the device but I don't know if the SIM setting are read and configured every time the tablet boots.
Good luck.

Yes, that's what I did. I power down the devices to switch SIM and power up to test. I've done the testing twice to be certain. If you insert SIM to N7 on the fly, the device will ask you to power off and on to make the SIM work.
My city just recently got 4G LTE and some of the phones in the store are now getting LTE. Its only like 1-s bars because it has only been active for two days...
My phone isn't showing any 4G though while others right next to mine are. I however, am on CM 11. I have LTE set as the default connection mode or whatever but nothing yet.
Just wanted to check and see if there are any known issues with LTE on CM 11 especially on the Sprint variant.
I'm having this issue as well. Which radio are you using for your phone?

Hey Everyone!!
Over the last day I have lost all data services on my phone. the status indicator has a circle with a diagonal lie through it or occasionally I will see one or two bars with no 3g, 4g, etc next to it. I had flashed Cyanogenmod 11 a couple of weeks ago but everything was working fine. Wifi works
I had the Sim checked, re-flashed to stock....
Screen shots attached
Have you checked if the imei is blacklisted?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk
Nope, it was previously working and activated on my account. I did check it anyways,.
ESN is not blacklisted.
ESN is does not appear to be blacklisted suggesting it should be activation ready.
Very likely it's a tower/network outtage. Call your carrier to ask before spending time troubleshooting.
The occasional weak signal may mean it's trying to connect to a different tower, but it's not close enough for a reliable signal.
