WiFi and BT won't connect. - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hi All,
I searched and read a dozen post for this and have yet to find a solution. I made repairs to this Note 2, replaced the USB/charger board. The phone had been wet. This fixed the first problem, but now I have a new one.
I installed CWM recovery and installed a stock rom in order to obtain root and,,,,,,,,,you get the idea. I have flashed back and forth between several roms, inc Jedi and three or four stock versions. Yesterday I had WiFi for a few hours. This morning when I got up and turned it on, I can't get it to connect to WiFi or BT. It just says "turning on" and does nothing.
The phone is unlocked and on AT&T network. It has 4.1.2 JZ054K. UVBMD1 in it. I've tried many combinations of modems, kernels and roms. I've tried to match them and tried combos. No luck.
Because I had it apart, I fear a hardware issue. I'm hoping someone will have a suggestion that will allow me to keep the "unlock" and connect to WiFi. When I flashed the custom rom, it appered I lost my "unlock". Of course I got it back when I flashed back to stock.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Got it figured out.

When I repaired the board, I had it disassembled down to having the mother board out. Evidently when I was handling the mother board, I pushed down the little contact tabs that make contact with the back body panel which make contact with the antennas. I found a video which showed me which antennas were which. Once I reassembled the phone, it worked fine.
So it turned out to be a hardware issue after all,,,,,,,,,of course I caused the issue.

Barley will get singal

The other night my phone randomly shut off and would not turn on for like 8 hours. When it did, it got SUPER hot in the back where it would just about scald your hand. It shut off again and i got it back on in a few minutes.
But my problem is ever since then I have not got good signal at all where I use to get full signal. I dont't think it's ever connected to 3G either. And i can't get enough signal to place out calls.
My wife has the same phone and since i have flashed it, ive never got as good signal as here. Which im guessing the problem is my radio is a lot older version then her's. I just dont know how to succesfully update the radio.
But my main issue is that i have little or no signal in places i got good signal until this happened. Is it possible that this ruined my anteanna or something?
Carrier: Bluegrass Cellular
Current ROM: MIUI-110070 (also tried cynageonmod and the original sense UI)
Baseband version( assuming that means radio) 2.05.10.08.11 (wife's radio version is like 5... or 7... something)
something i just noticed.. Network says US Cellular, but i have bluegrass. But im just assuming that has something to do with me running MIUI instead.
Needing help!

That's the main issue here and that's what we should focus on.
The Desire overheating issue is a known one and it's mostly related to a faulty mainboard. It's patched by underclocking/undervolting or completely fixed by replacing the mainboard. My best guess is that when you installed MIUI, thus replacing the stock kernel with one that can overclock the CPU, the CPU got somehow overclocked/overvolted and that caused the overheating thus damaging the mainboard. As i said, it's a guess; the mainboard could have easily failed by itself, as no tech is fault-proof.
Try replacing the ROM with a stock one and see what happens. If the problem persists, you could try flashing a newer radio (there are lots of guides here on how to do that), but mind you, it's not a recommended procedure for a damaged phone, as if the phone shuts down and the radio flash fails, you'll end up with a permanent brick.
There is a hardware fix you could try, but that involves taking the phone apart. It's not a very invasive procedure, as you need only undo a couple of screws and dismantle some plastic parts. Do a search for "antenna contacts fix" in the Desire section.

[Q] Phone looses date&time

Hope I can get some help with this annoying issue.
Phone looses date&time after the battery is plugged out. Also the automatic date&time settings don't work. Each time I take out the battery the phone resets to a very early date like 1980 or something like that.
I guess this is a hardware issue but how can I fix this?
Thanks for all the replies.

May be the reception is not good in you area.
Also do you have the automatic restore switched on?
I don't think it is about weak reception as I have a similar wildfire s and that one with the same simcard gets automatic date&time settings. And also that one does not loose the date&time when the battery is plugged out.

How about trying to Factory Reset the WFS that has the problem and setting it up from scratch.
Just an idea.
I also tried that and have reinstalled the whole stock rom. I mean a RUU from the scratch. But no luck.
Is it possible that having a different CID than the stock rom can cause a problem. Or is there anyone like me who changed the stock rom and has a different CID than his software. I used a goldcard to change the stock rom. The phone has originally HTC__044 but I have installed the europe RUU.

Sorry I don't know about CID's.
I'm having my own issues at the moment trying to create a Goldcard. Seems impossible for me. Nothing works, no matter what method I try.
Anyway, do you have the same ROM on both phones?
If so, then they should both work the same no matter what.
However, if you have a Custom ROM on one maybe there is something the phone simply does not like and therefore cannot continue to keep the Date&Time settings.
The other phone is HTC__Y13 which is already a europe version. Anyway I will try to download an Asia RUU version and see if it fixes it.
For you the easiest way to make a goldcard is goldcard tool which worked fine for me.
http://android.modaco.com/topic/308798-pc-application-goldcardtool/
I finally found the problem. After a desperate trial of several softwares I decided to open up the phone.
The tapes over the connectors and a small battery were missing So I patched this by getting some tape over it and now it seems to work fine. Apparently it was somehow short-circuited by touching the back cover of the phone and probably some other parts as well.
Awkward how can HTC forget to place tape. I bought this phone from the internet so I had no warranty to bother myself as it takes ages to send and receive back. but I am also %100 sure it is not a refurbished phone as it is a trusty reseller I bought several times mobile phones. I already complained to the place I bought but anyway I am happy that the problem is resolved

Unfortunately I have already put my phone together, but if you watch the video below, go to minute 2:00 of the video and play. There you can see which connectors I mean. Or just watch any disassembly video on youtube to see what I mean.
I put a long tape covering the two connectors and the battery.

[Q] Note 2 won't Turn On WiFi or Bluetooth Settings

I tried toggling it on after the 4.1.2 update, but it won't let me the upgrade was done through OTA and carrier is Fido. Same thing with Bluetooth. It just toggles back to off on it's own.
Any help or suggestions? I'm thinking of restoring it to factory. I'm enquiring for my mom's boyfriend. He does have SuperSU installed but I don't think it's rooted because I'm pretty sure he won't know how to do that. Could this be causing the program?
He's thinking about going back to the iPhone which in my opinion would be a huge mistake after witnessing the note 2 for power myself haha.
Just tried doing a Factory Reset to no avail. Still toggling from on (for a brief second) back to off.

Yeah that was going to be my next step, but then downloading the Firmware is going to take forever. I am thinking about flashing a Custom ROM so it will remove the bloatware with it. I'll update the thread when I get a chance.
EDIT: I was so smart yesterday that I flashed Stock Restore by accident and now I have to use someone's computer to flash CWM back into it or Unroot the phone...It was such a dumb mistake.........
Very well known to me issue...
1. Never attempt to undervolt Note 2, especially on low clocks. Don't play with RedPill kernel. Use stock, Adam or Perseus.
2. Flash stock 4.1.2
3. Shutdown, remove SIM, battery and SD card.
4. Press and hold the Power button for 30+ seconds (I used a full minute).
5. Insert the battery only, power on and try to enable BT and WiFi.
6. If succeeded - shutdown, insert SIM & SD, reassembly and power on. Verify again.
If not... you may try again or go to servicemen.
7. Later you can flash a custom ROM but beware of kernels and especially undervolt.
P.S. My old trusty Motorola Atrix doesn't like undervolt too. It looses BT...
Thanks man. It is super weird though because I don't think he had it rooted and I checked the Kernel that he had installed it showed it was the stock kernel. I will keep that in mine. I was also wondering and this maybe a newbie question. But n7100 can only flash stock n7100 4.1.2? I just find downloading the firmware will take forever.
Thanks for all your help guys. Will jeep you both updated.

Same Problem with WIfi and Bluetooth
I experienced the Same issue sometimes when i removed my battery i can turn on my WiFi and Bluetooth but after a couple of days the Wifi and Bluetooth can't turn on again. Anyone already fixed this issue?
The back cover serves as the Wifi antenna. When you open the back lid, the two gold prongs on the upper right are the connections to the back cover (antenna). Make sure the contacts are clean and the back lid is attached completely. When insufficient contact is established, wifi will not turn on.

This is NFS antenna. Seems having nothing to do with GHz range internal antennas.
Anyway will do no harm to have it properly attached.

Same problem over here
My problem has been on going since I bought thee damn thing
I bought it from someone for $500 back in April. The guy I bought it from must have been some sort of genius or something because every freaking repair place and computer places, in Tulsa, OK, have absolutely no idea what the guy that I bought it from did! I remember it had a custom ROM I think it was Jedix..sorry I am a noob and a girl at that :/
I have spent countless hours reading forum after forum to no avail.
So the guy that I bought it from asked me if I wanted regular 3g/4g speeds and wifi or fast internet speeds everywhere and no wifi. I, assuming that I could easily just turn wifi back on with the flip on the button, told him that I wanted fast internet and no wifi. I get home and try to flip wifi back on and nothing! Also no bluetooth. I was in contact with the guy that I bought it from and he did try to walk me through turning the wifi/bluetooth back on. He said it was simple..He had me wipe the cache, wipe the kernel, something to do with qual comm settings..blah blah I do not remember because it was months ago and so many things have been done to it since then. I shortly lost contact with him. If I am within 2 feet away from my router I can pick up great wifi but 3 feet away or further I am s.o.l. I can pick up a real weak connection in public places like my college or a hospital. I have paid every phone repair place and computer store here in Tulsa to try to fix it. They all do the same thing, just restore it with the exception of the last place that I took it to..they tried to but an older version on it thinking wifi/bluetooth had something to do with version it was on.
Please do not tell me that this is a hardware issue!- I have read countless forums and have read that I am not alone with this issue. It does however not look promising because I have never read of anyone fixing this issue. I have read things about it being the radio etc etc. I firmly believe that this is a software/programming issue however the people that I have seen this happen to never got it fixed..they eventually just gave up and bought new motherboards or new phones entirely. With that being said a motherboard could be a possibility..any ideas on how much a new motherboard cost? Sorry for being sooo long I am just so frustrated. This is such a beautiful phone and I have never gotten to fully take advantage of all of its capabilities because of this.
WIFI Bluetooth fix
Hello, I´ve also tried everything software related to no avail. So I finally disassembled the device as shown in videos found on youtube or elsewhere.
Google it!!
Reconnected the wifi chip. Turned the the device on and....wifi and bluetooth worked strongly!!! That fixed it for me!!
To be clear: I just took the screws and the plastic piece that covers the motherboard (Bee careful and patient and use the right tools!!). Then disconnected and reconnected the connector of the wifi chip, which is located right next to the lower volume button, on the board. It´s the only cable showing.
I´ve seen this problem on laptops, because of overheatin issues related to bad mainboard design, but I cannot be sure in this case without further testing.
I´ll see how long this fix lasts and I´ll keep posting.

Replaced mainboard - Now camera not working but worked before

Hello and thanks for the help. I have an ATT Samsung Galaxy 3 i535. The phone got wet initially, I completely dried it out, turned it on and things seemed to be working great. Only problem was my mic fried, so no one could hear me talking on the phone. All other functions were flawless, camera, screen, etc...
So I ordered a new motherboard off Ebay with a clean IMEI for the i535 version of the Galaxy 3. The first mainboard I recieved was unlocked, and after installing, I noticed everything worked fine except I was recieving the "camera failed" message when I tried to open the camera app. I cleared the cache, downloaded a different camera app, same results. Camera would give me the failed message as soon as I opened it.
Thinking that the problem was possibly related to the unlocked replacement mainboard, I returned that item and ordered a second one. Installed fine, same results, "camera failed."
If I just put back in my original water damaged board, the camera works great. Could their be some incompatibility issues with my camera and the new boards? All boards are for a i535.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!!!

Hey Steve, it's pretty cool to see that other people actually take their phones apart other than me
Anyways, I never came across a problem like that before. The worst I did to my phone after taking it apart so much was that I somehow broke the speaker. I got the whole phone replaced though, so that solved my problem. Are you under any warranty with your phone? If so, have you done anything too obvious that voided it? (other than taking your phone apart.)
When I returned my phone, I just said the speaker kept deteriorating until it was completely mute. If you can try to just say that your problem happened all of a sudden.
And have you considered trying a new camera module for the motherboard?

Thanks for the reply. I'm a little worried as well that if I continue taking it apart I'll eventually screw something up!! I know the module itself is okay since it still works great with my original motherboard. The problem seems to be something relate to an incompatibility in the software. I'm thinking of following the instructions in the sticky to install a new ROM, and maybe that will do the trick. Im hoping someone posts a suggestion as to which I should start with since there seems to be a ton of options. Thanks for the advice though!!!
Well I've hammered through various posts and instructions, and eventually tried to root my phone and installed the Synergy ROM in hopes it would solve my problems.
Synergy install went great, but the camera is still failing when I open it. After more research, it looked like I needed to change my kernel to be compatible with Synergy Rom (r484) as well. I flashed the KT747 kernel in hopes that it would resolve the camera issue. Still no go.
Just to recap, the camera is working fine with my original stock motherboard, just not the replacement boards. To me, that would seem to rule out a hardware problem with the camera module itself... but I can't understand why I can't get it to work with either of the replacement boards.
Should I switch to a different ROM? Any ideas on which might be best? Thanks.
Any advice would be mucho appreciated! Thanks!!
during the replacement mainboard, you did plug the little connector from the camera back into the mainboard correct?

After motherboard replacement, constant signal drops

Hey guys,
I have a 5X that recently had a bootloop. The motherboard was swapped out using a donor phone. The phone is happy now with the exception of constant signal drops. I'm currently running 7.1.2 Pure Nexus rom however this issue was happening on stock 7.1.1 and after a 8.0 update (I reverted back to 7.1.2). The phone will behave normally then out of the blue the single strength indicator triangle is displays empty with an outlined triangle vs the traditional filled. I have no data and no cellular service. The only way I can get service back is after a reboot. Sometimes service will last 10 min, other times 4 hours. When I do have service its significantly weaker than typical, ~ -110. Is there some sort of hardware handshake that needs fixing? Would flashing a different radio be worthwhile? Wifi works fine and never cuts out. Any help would be most appreciated as this is very frustrating! Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure I understand the question. After swapping, the device behaves like a new phone. I was able to install TWRP, unlock bootloader, root etc. I do not receive any error about "no RPMB".
weird... I'm a little confused.
I read in many different forums that the repaired Nexus5x can no longer be rooted.
I have tried it with mine several times already unsuccessfully.
When you start the bootloader you see the message (no RPMB)
Maybe somebody has a solution for this?

Depends on who does it. LG UK replaced my motherboard last month. After repair, I was able to root it as easily as I did when I first got the phone.
my phone was at lg german
for over 2 weeks I am looking for a solution
Mine was not sent to a repair facility, I was fortunate to have a donor. Thread has slightly gotten off topic. Any thoughts to flashing another radio? Are some OS better suited for specific radios? Is there a way to verify which radio is most compatible with my OS / rom?
When I got my 5x repaired (motherboard replacement with brand new manufactured at 7/8/17) I can root my phone, unlocking bootloader etc.
Hi jstein84, I've the same identical problem (motherboard replacement after bootloop, and now intermittent signal and very poor reception, often -110dB)... Did you find any solution?

Could it be that something wasn't reattached correctly by the repairer?
In my case, the phone was perfect for 2-3 months after the replacement (never dropped, never got water in this period). Now, since one week, it started issuing this new problem, which seems to be very common after screen or mb replacement in the 5X. Very poor signal, with every SIM card I tried (it happened after I used the wifi hotspot, but no sure it matters). I've tried resetting network settings and hard resetting the phone, nothing changed. I've also tried to check the speaker component inside the rear case (where there are the antennas). It seems ok, I just noticed that if I cover the bottom left right corner of the phone, the signal totally disappears immediately. I'm getting crazy with this problem...

You might try flashing the stock firmware with fastboot. I had a similar issue with bluetooth randomly cutting out. After flashing the stock firmware bluetooth now works without issue. I can't tell you why it fixed it because it shouldn't have made a difference, but maybe something got corrupted. Worth a try.

I'm glad to see this post is getting some new activity. To answer Sebastian's question, my phone seems better but still not great. I seem to have better coverage but I noticed that if I enter a complete dead zone, I get the hollow triangle, and the phone is not able to get service again until a reboot. This is after returning to a known service area. I have received numerous ota updates since my original post so I'm not sure if that's the cause. I had also tried flashing new radios a few months ago but to no avail. I personally believe that its a hardware issue but I have no way to verify that. I'm glad Im not the only one and I hope this helps out somebody. If nothing else its validation that you're not alone.
