[Q] Stuck on "htc quietly brilliant" screen after unsuccesful rootoing attempt.
Hi Everyone,
I made the decision to ROOT my One X, and install a custom ROM. Unfortunately whilst I was able to unlock the boot loader (through the HTC site, and the relevant fastboot commands) I was not able to root the phone. I made the mistake of following the How to Root HTC One X easily instructions (not hosted at XDA Developers).
My phone is now stuck on the "htc quietly brilliant screen", and unfortunately it seems that several other people have had the same issue with these instructions, of course I discovered this "moments" too late (when I scrolled to the bottom of the page!!!).
I am faced with a number of challenges -
My phone doesn't have a removable SD Card (so I can't access the memory - to upload a zip file, etc)
I have not installed ClockWorkMod, and therefore do not have any custom recovery options
In order to try and fix the issue that I am facing I have performed the following tasks -
Performed a Factory Reset (from the Hboot Menu)
Entered Recovery (then "Wipe Cache Partition" & "Wipe data/factory reset")
Downloaded firmware and extracted the recovery.img file
Uploaded the firmware to the phone (using: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img)
None of the above has helped, and on numerous reboots (after following the steps outlined above) I am still faced with the "htc quietly brillaint" screen.
If anybody has any suggestions on how I can go about fixing the phone they will be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards,
Davo

Install a rom *that is already rooted* with a clean wipe. In HBOOT you should still get an ADB connection. Therefore you can push a rom to the devices internal storage. Recoveries can be flashed with fastboot commands.
ADB Command:
adb push >rom.zip location here< /sdcard

Hi sixcarnage,
I don't see how this is possible. I can't load a ROM zip file onto my phone, and even if I could I do not have ClockWorkMod or a similar recovery package with which to install the ROM. Is there some way of installing a ROM through the adb interface?
Any additional suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards,
Davo

Faced with a new challenge - error message presented when entering Hboot menu
Hi sixcarnage,
Thanks for continuing to help. I have hit another "road block", I don't seem to be able to detect the device through adb. Since flashing the recovery.img file I am now seeing the screen below when starting into Hboot mode -
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Even though I can enter the Fastboot menu, and when I do so I see the customary FASTBOOT USB message when I run the command "adb devices" I cannot see any devices connected. I think that something has gone astray with the USB side of things as well, hopefully this isn't a disastrous setback.
Any further help will be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards,
Davo

Please don't make double threads, you already have one here. I answered your last question here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2442715
And for rooting the software on the phone you must have a custom recovery ! You can't root via stock recovery
Flash this custom recovery
http://db.tt/7Pcsg6sj
And mount the sdcard as a usb diskdrive, copy a rom, make a full wipe and install the rom. flash the boot.img and reboot.
Ow adb doesn't work in the bootloader, only in a running OS and recovery.

ADB can't see the phone!
Hi Everyone,
I have discovered that the "USB" message in Hboot is normal, it occurs when the USB cable is connected whilst booting into Hboot. I simply started Hboot without the phone connected to the USB cable, and this issue has been resolved.
However I am still unable to push any files to the phone - in fact the phone is not being detected at all, when I run "adb devices" I see the following -
Thanks

Sorry for the double posting, I was getting a bit carried away - trying to get this phone going
I have flashed the custom recovery that you linked; however I don't understand how to mount the sdcard as a usb diskdrive, given that the phone will not load into Android. Are there some specialised instructions for doing this from the Hboot menu?

Thank you Mr Hofs, I followed your instructions through the Philz Custom Recovery and am now a proud user of the AndroidRevolutionHD ROM

Very good !

[HELP] Wont go to Recovery

Hey guys
ive a problem
i have a rooted one x i already flashed android revolution 3.0 over it
but i wanted to change to android revolution lite 4.0
thats what ive done:
-download the "install-boot.bat"
-got to fastboot mode on my phone
-try to install the boot.bat ...but faild
-i think ive forgoten to superwibe... so ive done that
-again try to install boot.bat...wont work again
-try to go to recovery ...but just get a kind of a boot loop
-reinstall recovery
-still the same problem
i cant get into the recovery mode and cant boot the phone i never had this problem befor whit my android hd2
kind of "progress": now i can go to (i think it is) the start of the recovery mode: there is a lying htc phone whit a green circle with arrows but afer a while it turns into a standing htc phone whit a red exclamation mark
so what ive to do now??? i hope i havent broke the phone!!!! plz help me
Try erasing your cache in fastboot "fastboot erase cache" and see if that helps.
thanks for your reply but it says:
erasing 'cash' ...
FAILD <remote: not allowed>
finished. total time 0.067s
DAMNN no more guarantee
Okay I'm assuming that you have used fastboot before. And I assume that you have HTC drivers installed. I think your phone is going into bootloop because of the boot.img failed to flash.
I'm assuming that you are on the "fastboot USB" mode in your phone when you try to install the "install-boot.bat" right?
Because going into bootloader you start of with just HBOOT. You need to be in fastboot USB to flash boot.img

yes i was on fasboot usb mode ...
so i have to try intall "install-boot.bat" again?
i get this error report
which says that AdbWinAbi.dll is missing
You can try I guess. But if it fails again I am stumped on what to do? Maybe start from scratch and return to stock and then flash ARHD 4.0.0
ok and how can i do that?...becaus factory reset wont work either(i think because of the bootloop)
please i need your help!!!
I can't read what ever the text is but it looks like its failing due to a missing DLL

Why do you want to do that .bat thing? For changing ROM you go via CWM after you put the downloaded zip on the storage card...
And flashing the appropriate boot.img the particular chef is providing via fastboot and cmd window.
Did you do a backup of your original ROM via CWM? Did you do one of the rooted ROM?
You probably have to start from scratch...read the sticky in the devs section first..excellent guides put up there...good luck

Hi guys!
I've read a lot around the forums and can't find any info on my problem.
This topic was closest to my problem, so i hope i don't annoy anyone with posting here.
I've followed every step to unlock phone (and it's unlocked) everything went successfully until i came to the recovery part.
Every time i try to start recovery from bootloader my phone hangs on the HTC screen. No matter what i try to do, (tried to erase cache and install recovery again and again) it just hang.
Tried with two different CWM recoveries.
Anyone got an idea why that is? And what i can do to get into recovery mode?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I'm new to Android, but man, i love this forum. So much info!

i found this... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1609190
but after a try my fastboot just let me reinstall recovery (which still wont work) but clear cash etc it keep saying FAILD (remote: not allowed)
what command are you typing? Are you typing "fastboot flash boot boot.img"? Or "fastboot flash recovery endeavoru_recovery_signed.img"?
im typing "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" (i renamed the file from "..._recovery_...img" into "recovery.img")
and thats the only command that work
EDIT: i tried "fastboot flash boot boot.img" work to...but what does it change?
Okay. Well I am lost. Don't know how to help you out.
thank you for your help till now!!! but did you read the edit?
"EDIT: i tried "fastboot flash boot boot.img" work to...but what does it change?"
Flashing the boot.img only changes the kernel and of course boot.img of the ROM. Wrong boot.img can cause problems too.

load fastboot on your htc
go to cmd and go to your folder
write "fastboot boot reco.img"
the phone will boot recovery and KNOW YOU HAVE ADB working
you can load your favourite rom
i take this one rename it to update zip
after that put it in your folder with adb and fastboot
adb push update.zip /sdcard/update.zip
this will need some time
After that you have your rom at your sdcard where you can flash it with recovery
sorry for my very very bad english but maybe this will help other
Option
you can choose stock rom
i take this one rename it to update zip
adb push update.zip /sdcard/update.zip
Many thx for your big efforts. I have the new recovery 5.8.3.1 on my One X since the day it was released. Also i have had no problems with sd card - i have a running custom rom, so i could transfer the rom.zip with USB to my card. I also tried to flash it via HBoot and recovery, but it fails. I think, my device or the setup program is confused, because in the boot section is the regular provider o2 identified, but after the firmware flash from mikes thread, the device is also detected as an HTC original model, it shows me 1.28.40.... in the installation menu of the RUU. My actual rom is 1.29.... it must be a bug in the detection.
It seems too dangerous for me to try some things, which i don´t really understand without a good description, what i can do if this fails. Better to stay at the moment at my running custom rom and to forget the updates as to brick my device. Hope, we will get S-Off in the future, if earlier, it´s better.
i wiped my phone and wanne flash the new one. but the phone told me my zip is damaged. no way back.
so i write this tutorial because this was the only way which helped me.

Is the stock image in the Android folder u posted the 1.26¿?
you can load every rom.
rename this file to update.zip place it in my folder,
it hase to be in the same folder like adb and fastboot...
after that
adb push "name from the rom.zip you choose" /sdcard/test1.zip
that can take up to 2 hours. You see nothing. no status you have to wait
but what happend that your phone doesnt boot???
When you have leedroid try flashing the boot.img from his post...
LeeDrOiD One Xtreme V5.1.0 boot.img (Self flash)
I follow ur steps and all went well to the CWM.
Cannot make it to push on ADB the ROM.
Any clues?
I finally found the issue.
the command update.zip /.... I didnt put a space before. Wow for the moment I am feeling more relieved.
Well since u have already warned me that it takes a long time and theres no progress status, I will just wait.
I´ll update but many thanks.
thanks

HTC One X wrong rooted or flashed, how to fix?

Hello all,
At first I'm sorry to administrators If i put this thread in a wrong section. If I did, please remve it to the right section. Thanks
At first I have to let you guys, that I made a mistake, and that is, that i rooted my phone before i carefully read threads in this forum and after that, I try to reflashed it with modifide flash. Now My HTC One x phone start only till the modified logo of "CyanogenMod", picture attached ( 0 and 1 ).
I need to unlock boot ower the htc support page once again. After that I try to reload recovery ( there's 5 recovery made in sd card ) but after reboot, no changes are made, phone still hangs at this logo.
When turn on the phone in bootloader mode, recovery can not find files ( update.zip ), but I found 2 files that I both tryed to upload with hope that I will fix this mess.
- cm-10-20121014-nightly-endeavoru.zip ( it is in the root of sd card )
- gapps-jb-20120726-signed (1).zip ( it si in the \fastboot directory of the sd card )
Info of the bootloader menu is show on the picture 2.
ClockworkMod Recovery ver is v 5.8.4.0
When I turn ON the phone in normal mode, as i already mentioned, it hangs at modified logo and computer found it, it also install sdcard as show picture 3. But here becomes a problem and that is, when I try to open this sdcard, I get message "insert SD card", show picture 4, I can not open it and also copied anything on it.
Result is, I can not put any file on sd card, so I can not flash the phone.
I try to flash phone with UU flash file :
RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_S_HTC_Europe_2.17.401.2_Radio_2.1204.135.20_release_274900_signed.exe
Flashing starts normalyy till the part, that phone should restart in bootloader mode, and even If i put phone in bootlodare manually, flashing wont continue.
I read many threads and now I'm confused, becouse almost every solution need an sdcard to be WRITABLE, but my is not even accessible.
Can someone help mi with manuals step by step, how to fix this problem?
Thanks in advance for any help.
BR,
Dejan

This should have been posted in the Q&A section. So to understand, you have unlocked your phone and installed CWM Recovery and then tried to flash the CM10 rom? Did you flash the rom and it is now stuck on boot logo? Did you flash the boot.img file from the rom via fastboot? Did you enter command fastboot erase cache after flashing the boot.img file?
Tried mounting the phone in ClockworkMod Recovery ver is v 5.8.4.0 @ mounts mount usb?
gr
ClydeB1,
I flashed the rom and now is stucked, yes. I flashed it with UU rom I guess, becouse I dont have other rom.
Strikert,
When I gou in recovery and then mount USB storage, only Unmount options is availabe. Is it possible to mount it over the cmd?
BR,
Dejan
ClydeB1,
forgot to tell you, I also did erase cashe from recovery menu, not from cmd. How to run from cmd?

im also experiencing the same problem as you. was following the steps from here: http://pocketnow.com/2012/07/26/jelly-bean-on-the-htc-one-x-with-cyanogenmod-10-video
and ended up getting stuck at #7/8. someone plz help :/
Problem fixed
Just to inform you, i fixed the problem.
Here is the solution:
1. Relock bootloader ( fastboot oem lock )
2. Reboot bootloader ( fastboot oem rebootRUU )
3. Start flashing with exe file ( in my case "RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_S_HTC_Europe_2.17.401.2_Radio_2.1204.135.20_release_274900_signed.exe"
4. When falshing is finished, Restart the phone
5. Wait till phone turns ON
6. Reboot the phone in bootloader mode
7. Unlock bootloader

Dejan

Your initial problem was that you didn't flash the boot.img for the rom in fastboot. When flashing any rom on HOX you must always extract the boot.img from the rom.zip, flash it in fastboot mode by running "fastboot flash boot boot.img" then "fastboot erase cache", then boot into recovery and wipe and flash the rom.zip.

[Q] Stuck with a Softbrick device during installing custom rom CM11

Hi there,
I've been working on rooting my htc one X bought in Australia locked to vodafone and now unlocked and used for a while.
I had been planning on rooting the phone for a while and after reading up multiple posts I chose to use the XDA developers video to root the phone. As the video is not very clear towards the end on the processes. But I completed the process somehow with reference to other videos and processes. However, after reading up on the best available ROMs I chose the CM11 with a basic process explained here (unable to post link)- however, that didnt help me much as there's just a basic description of what's to be done (helpful for advanced users).
But as this is my first attempt to rooting my device, I had to look up youtube on videos describing the rooting process for HTC one X. And found another video by the same author -
The author uses another ROM for the process but said this was a universal process. And I ended up copying only the CM11 zip folder of the ROM and not the Gapps zip file. Then his process didn't allow me to boot into recovery as my phone would get to the 'HTC - quietly brilliant' screen and get hang. Then I figured that the recovery image he had in the onexroot folder was an old one so I replace it with the latest image of recovery - recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.4.8-endeavoru. And tried again, but with no luck.
Then I went in to the HBOOT menu and selected recovery and followed the process of installing from zip file and completed the entire installation process but the phone would go in to a boot loop when I rebooted. I followed some other processes to resolve this and ended up messing up the rom image on the phone. So now i'm unable to do anything with the phone as the stock rom is wiped out and so is the custom rom. I've tried the process of sideloading the zip files but I keep getting an error message of 'device not found'. I tried using the TWRP recovery as well for pushing files, but the the phone is non responsive on the main menu screen of TWRP itself. So I've flashed back to CWM recovery but am out of ideas on how to recover the phone.
Current status of the phone:
Bootloader - Unlocked
CMW - recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.4.8-endeavoru
Sorry for the long description, but any help will be highly appreciated.
Thanks!

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. Philz recovery has an updated version available however, in its download screen it is not clear which version corresponds to the One X. There are versions of the software for One V and One S. Could you suggest which one would be the right one?
Thanks.

Hi Thant,
Thank you so much for your help. You were completely right. I downloaded the 5.15.9 version and that let me connect the phone as a usb device and I mounted the device as usb in recovery and copied the gapps. however, there was an issue with the latest CWM that didnt let me install the ROM but philz recovery did the trick. Then again I installed the latest cwm and installed the gapps..wiped the factory data and went back to the fastboot menu, flashed the boot.img from the Rom's folder and rebooted. And now I have the android 4.4.4 working just fine!
Thank you once again for all your help! really appreciate it.

System write protection.
There is a mod to disable that here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/des...e-disable-write-protection-v1-0-tool-t2966850
Or use a custom ROM, those have it disabled already.
I went through all the necessary steps. Only thing/issue now is the actual flashing of the root file. It will not take. Anyone else have this issue? Is there a way to get the necessary binary or whatever it's asking for? Thank you in advance.
