[Q] "Device unreachable" when copying files from phone to computer - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I'm on the windows 8.1 preview. I'm trying to copy my 32 gb external sdcard contents over to my pc, then copy those folders and files over to my new 64gb class 10 sdcard. When I connect using my usb cable, it shows the folders and files on the root of the card. Some of the folders that I open are empty. Some of the folders have my stuff in them. Why isn't it showing all of the contents? That's the first problem.
2nd problem, I tried copying over the folders and files that weren't empty but i get a "Device unreachable" error, which kills the transfer. Not sure what this error means. Has anyone else ever gotten this error? If so, how do you fix it ?
In the meantime, I'm using AirDroid to copy my stuff over, but it's gonna take a couple hours. I heard the usb cable transfers things faster than wifi (at least, faster than my slow internet) so that's why i'm trying to fix these problems.
Edit- I forgot about the adapter that came with the sdcard so I'm using that. I still would like to know how to fix these two problems though, if anyone knows.

[Q] Pictures being deleted

I am basically having an issue where I can take pictures with the stock camera, but if I plug the phone into my computer the pictures wont be there. And then after disconnecting the phone, the pictures will have been deleted from the DCIM folder. Oddly enough though, after a reboot, it will function normally for one cycle of (taking a picture, viewing it in windows explorer, and then disconnecting the phone). Anything after that and no "new" photos will show up in windows explorer.
I was running Mikg 2.55, but in hopes of it simply being a bug I have wiped multiple times and tried a different ROM. The issue is still identical though. My only thoughts left are a possibly faulty sd card at this point, but it is odd that everything saves and works fine on the sd card as long as I don't plug it into the computer and enable "disk drive".
Thanks for any advice or input everyone.
did you try a different sd card?

I have not yet, I unfortunately do not have another sd card available at the moment. But I have the feeling that is ultimately what it'll come down to, to try and narrow the problem.
If you can get everything backed up to your computer, try formatting the card & only move back the necessary files.
It could also be your computer or something on your computer. Does it happen if you mount as disk drive to another computer?

I have backed up the SD Card and formatted it multiple times, the symptoms remain the same after the format. I've dealt with corrupt sd cards before and this is odd in how it acts.
So if I use a file browser on the phone and create an empty folder, it won't be there on the computer when I connect and use as "disk drive". The folder is essentially deleted the second the phone is plugged in. But, if I create the folder from windows explorer onto the phone, and then unplug it, the folder is still there.
I don't have a second computer to test it on, but this does seem like a rather odd problem....

I think you have something set on your pc that is acting up with the phone. I would look through your user access and controls and see if anything strange has access to things its not supposed to.

That was my thought as well, I've noticed that I can take pictures on the phone and the computer is unable to see those photos in windows explorer. But when I disconnect the phone, the photos show back up in gallery and android file explorer. If I restart my phone, then the photos will show up in windows. Of course, then the process repeats for any kind of new picture (or any file created on the phone side).
Also, windows seems to be prompting to scan the sd card for errors most of the time now when I plug it in. That may be an indication of it thinking files are corrupted. I also loaded windows into safe mode to try and rule out any outside program influence on the windows side, same symptoms occurred though.
I have a very similar issue where any pics I take show up as corrupted files when I plug the phone in and sync it. When I do, I get the popup telling me I need to scan my card and it always finds errors in the cache files for pics in the MIUI folder and deletes the pics that gave me problems.
The whole time I can see them in the Gallery, etc, but not on my computer when the phone is sync'd.
If I don't do the scan, when I flash a new version of MIUI, they're fine, until I take more pics, and then it starts all over again with those
Update: Got around to plugging the phone into another computer in order to rule out any software issues. The issue remained the same.
But, finally got a hold of an old micro sd and transferred over all the files to it. Changing out the sd card has fixed the issue, there are no more pictures being deleted or windows errors in regards to corrupt files.
As odd as this was with the previous sd card, I have no choice but to believe it is faulty beyond repair. I have attempted to reformat it multiple times, quick and full formats. Also let windows do a full scan for bad sectors on the sd card, but in the end the problem still remained.
I believe I will step up to a higher end memory manufacturer for my next sd card, in hopes that I can avoid this happening in the future. Just as an FYI, my current sd card was a 16gb San Disk (Class 4).
>: Maybe it's time for me to replace my card too. Hell, it is 2 yrs old.....

4.2 SD Card Problem

I have an ATT SGS3 and today I flashed 4.2. Everything is cool, but due to multiple flashes over the past few days, I had several (0) folders on my SD card. I know this is due to 4.2 having the option to have multiple users. Since I had like 6 (0) folders, I moved my main folder back to the newest folder. The problem? While I can see the folder in Root Explorer and CWM, it does not show up when I plug it into the computer via USB. I only see one folder and nothing else.
How can I fix it so I can see this folder when plugged into the computer? The way it is now, my personal ringtones, music and everything else are not being found as they are not being seen.
Thanks for any help!!
I'm on 4.2 and both of my cards show up on my pc. I don't have the (0) folder you speak of either. Closest I have to that is usbdisk(0)
Look on one of your cards for a folder with the name of "0". The content of that folder is everything previously on your internal sd.
I can see the folder on root explorer but can't when I am hooked up to computer.

I've just flashed AOKP 4.2...and have the exact same problem..

I just found that my contents of the internal sd card is showing up as the extenal sd when hooked to the computer. Crazy. But I can't move the files to the comptuer like this. How can I get this back to the way it should be? I want the internal contents to show up as the internal contents!

This is a known issue in 4.2 ROMs at the moment. Assuming you flashed CM or AOKP, you can follow this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2052337
Problem: USB MTP connection failing to transfer files between device and computer. Windows states the device may be disconnected, when in fact it is not. Another issue with 4.2 is sometimes it does not show your complete folder contents, it will also swap Internal Storage and SD Card folders.
There is no known solution at this time. (None that I have found anyway, and trust me I've been searching for the past 2 days non stop. Really looking forward to cm10.1, but every time I update I get the above issues. I'm waiting for them to be sorted out before I use it as a daily ROM.)

Yeah there is some bug in the phone when creating new folders. What works for me is that create a new folder don't rename it add files and rename it later. I hope that helps.
It's happened to me ever since Google disabled write to external SD in android 6.0. Unfortunately all you can do is make the folder on the device itself or flash a kernel that disables write protection.
Thanks Guys , but what about file copying its also take forever !!!

Bad cable maybe? I can copy files just fine. The only problem I have is with creating folders with custom names.
I've been having those same issues: creating a folder takes 30-60 secs. I expect MTP (or whatever) to be slower bit that seems a bit ridiculous. I think it only happens on the first access as subsequent folder-creation goes more quickly.
I've had files "sorta" copy but I think that was a permissions issue; seems to work fine after I somehow (I wish I could remember how so I could tell you) got the prompt to grant access (I'm no longer thinking MM's way of handling permissions is a good idea--I'd rather get the prompts on install rather than not at all).
This is on two brand new phones with their respective cables and 128GB UHS-I Class 3 cards.
I did just copy my initial TWRP backups from it just fine, only took a couple of minutes over a USB2 connection.
I think I was setting the storage location to the SD Card in Titanium Backup when I got the clunky permissions-granting thing popping up; perhaps try that.

Photo recovery

Hi! I have htc 10 with 128 gb sd card formatted as internal memory. I was transferring a photo folder from phone to laptop using USB cable and USB connection in media transfer mode. The folder seemed to be transferring alright but the pasted folder in laptop is empty. Since I didn't understand photo sync in Google photos I don't have any backup...desperately seeking to restore that folder. Need all the help
I'd avoid using the SD as internal, sounds great in principle but can cause issues if there's an interrupt..
For apps I'd use folder mount, needs root but it's simple to use and doesn't affect internal memory.
In regards to the images, did you cut the images? Copy or simply drag them, a drag would be a copy. So the original should have remained. If you cut them then they'll have been in limbo and will then be marked for deletion.
In future always use copy instead.
If the photos are no longer in the phones memory then they'll have been marked for deletion, a data recovery app on Windows and or your mobile may help but not sure.. Have had a lot of luck on SD cards when plugged into Windows but never scanned a phone as it's a live OS and I imagine it would need complete read access.
If the photos were on the SD card and are no longer visible, connect the SD card up to your computer because if they're marked for deletion and the OS decides to use those clusters, it'll be overwritten which will make it harder for recovery.
Hi,
apps from market not working for me, but Recuva has worked hundred times for me.

Transferring Files from PC to Phone

Anyone else having the issue where they can't transfer files from their Win 10 PC to the phone? I have it set to File Transfer mode when I plug it in via USB into the computer. When I pull it up in File Explorer, it says "Phone". Double clicking it shows my MicroSD card and the internal storage. Then when I try to click and drag or Ctrl-C Ctrl-V a file into either spots, nothing happens. I did try enabling USB Debugging mode, but that's not required for a simple file transfer. This is honestly kinda ridiculous. Also, when I'd take my MicroSD and move files from windows to it by connecting it to a USB adapter, the files transfer onto the card, but as soon as I plug it into the phone, all those files disappear in the file explorer and are replaced with a file or folder called System Volume Information. Anyone else having issues??
Nope have copied files from what's app for printing and copied my music to phone storage and external memory card as well,

I had no issues using the steps you used. I just grabbed my USB-c to USB cable for charging my old oneplus, and it worked.
I used Bluetooth to transfer a few files from my PC to my phone. It worked great
Bluetooth works, plugging in phone (sd card formatted as internal storage), and Teamviewer works. I think I might use Teamviewer as it's similar to a ftp client program, makes it real easy.
What did you format the sd card as? Internal or external storage?

Same here.
For normal files and documents i just use Google Drive, i don't have huge important files i need to have when i am out and about so i am unable to test this as i haven't had a need to plug my phone into a pc for 2-3 years.
Bluetooth would work or an SD Card reader, as there are so many ways to get files between a pc and a phone without a cable its partly why ive not even bother to check the does my phone work with my pc step. Back in the days when you got Software and Drivers for your phone are a thing of the past.
I using wi-fi to transfer files you can easily find an app for that

Which app are you using?
Heya, chiming in here to suggest Airdroid...look it up, useful and needs no plugging in, just used your WiFi networks to do the transfer, very useful tool (I,d like to thank YouTubes Mr Mobile ((Michael Fisher)) for that)
No problem here also...I just use my GoPro5 Type-C Cable with my Razer, and Copy and Paste in Windows Explorer....easy. I recommend you try another cable
Using an anker "normal" usb to usb c cable works fine to transfer files. But I can only transfer files to the SD card, internal storage doesn't appear.
For transfer via WiFi I use es file explorer, it connects fine to windows shares even with needed auth
