After racking my brain recently thinking that possibly my evo was somehow screwed up internally, I found the culprit.
Here's what happened....
I got bored and curious so I flashed a CM7 nightly to assure myself I have been missing nothing. Did the usual battery of testing after I update all my apps. Pathetically slow. I was left wondering how people could be bragging of 1600+ quadrant scores on aosp roms while I was barely getting over 1000. On VP I was accustomed to getting high 1400's. It seemed smooth enough but I wanted my VP back. I did a fresh install after a few wipes, same routine, updated apps and found I was getting 951 on the quadrant score, topping out at maybe 1100. That is 400 points below what I was getting before using the same kernel etc!
This has gone on for days now, been reading xda, even bugged a developer to see if he had insight. Thought I was onto something earlier when people reported problems with DarkTremors a2sd since I had upgraded to latest beta 4. So I wiped no less than 7 times, even once in the bootloader. Installed VaelPak2.3a and my scores were back! Thought I solved it but nope. Installed VaelPak3.1 found my scores back to normal. Did update 2, scores still normal. Upgraded apps. Scores dropped 300+ points.
Pulled the Quadrant from the VaelPak rom, and guess what? My scores are back to normal! So, am I the only one who has upgraded Quadrant and seen a difference in scores?
[quadrant version 1.1.5 is the good working version, 1.1.7 currently in the Market is causing the low scores]
Damn you're right, I was getting 1800+ before and now with 1.1.7 it's down to 1500+. Not quite the drop you were getting but it's still a significant difference.
Is it possible that newer Quadrant is supposed to give lower scores now on same hardware because it takes into account better hardware/newer phones? Idk, just posing the question
The most recent quadrant update apparently shows lower score results. Same thing happened with Linpack awhile back, they say it's more accurate now :/
same here, dropped by almost 200.
I can't say for sure whether they wanted the drop to "be more accurate" since the change log for 1.1.7 only claims gingerbread compatibility fixes. If you notice, the comparison chart levels have not changed along with the result ranges. A standard EVO is still something like 1200 or 1250 like it has always been. So, I do not see these numbers being more accurate if I am scoring significantly less than a stock unrooted phone.
I guess what I am saying is that if a benchmark decides to adjust their rating scale, the comparison scale should follow suit.
Don't you hate it when you spend time trying to fix something and here it not you at all? Like the the sound goes out on the TV. Then you spend the next 10 min. reseting receivers your TV and every device in your house. Just to find you its the cable company. Man I hate that.. let the bashing of cable companies begin...
Also:
I used to run those kinds of tests on my video cards on my pc all the time. Then they started making them for better cards and my scores kept going lower and lower. Eventually I got board with it because I knew I had a good card. It was just their POS software was making it look bad. Haven't ran that app since. Hope that doesn't happen to quadrant.
no wonder, and i cant get 1.1.7 to work on my g1. can anyone kindly share me 1.1.5's apk?
googled for it but couldnt find any
thanks!
I just want to know if anyome can explain why when running antutu benchmarks I cant even get scores equal to the score the app says I should be getting for this phone let alone better ones. Infact I often get much worse scores not even close to what it says I should be getting. Even more so Im running custom rom with overclocked kernel and its just sad. When u look to see what your device other are gettibg score wise there is like a major difference. I get like 10,000 to like 14,000. Iv tried using set cpu to make it run better with no success. And I tried using the app that came with the kernel to make it better by changing some settings and still nothing. It seems like nothibg I do can even get me scores that the phone should get as an average let alone better ones even when overclocked and such.

Funny you should post this...
I was angonizing over my scores a month or so ago, and was not getting scores even close to what I expected.
The tests made me so mad I gave up and went stock...LOL
Benchmarks are affected by soooooo many variables within the OS, they are often considered eye wash for speed related results.
The rom you run, the kernel, modem, background processing, data, wifi....blah blah blah....LOL
You see where I'm going with this ??
Stock TW based builds always run the best for me, and give the best scores...(remember, they dont mean much really).....really
If your device runs well, gets good battery life, and you are happy with the choice in roms you have made, then dont worry about antutu, or anything else.
Raw scores are called raw for a reason, as they are base estimates of a perceived result.
True testing of a device must be done under a set of rules only a factory can measure.....IMHO, and unless the devices being tested are paired "EXACTLY" the same, then the comparisons are flawed anyway......at least thats how i see it.....g
I understand that and I know how it affects but its more of a I do notice when my phone is quick or not and the scores usually reflect that. When I had my optimus g with it running alot more crap I was gettibg betyer scores and it wasnt overclocked and all that it was just stock. So I really believe that it should be running better than its showing leaving me to believe that there is somethibg wrong with the kernel or something. I have done this with quite a few devices and there usualky a noticeable difference from stock to overclocked scores. But with this phone seems like it dosent show on this phone.
Sent from my Note II
Very possible. ..
Most reports for this quad core tell us that overclocking takes the device a bit backward in speed and performance.
I overclocked for a few weeks, and saw no appreciable performance gains.
The end result for me was a stock variant rom and a stock kernel.
I then gained transition speeds with launcher changes.
Nova launcher, with the transition speeds set to maximum is quite impressive. And graphical transitions were running best at stock speeds.
I might get flamed for this, but I would honestly say that with minor UI adjustment, and stock kernels, this device needs very little if any real change at all to achieve the best performance.
Mileage will vary, but I'm staying rooted stock with a custom launcher.
Everything else seems to drag this device down. ..g
My real main issie is with gaming on the decice I notice glitching and slowness quite often and I just feel jipped. It is quad core 2gb of ram why is it so ****. I had the optimus g and it was amazing I only went to this phone for the screen size.

It's been said that our note 2 is a bit lacking with the current GPU...although, a GPU overclock may help you the most, while leaving the CPU alone.
I've not tried any GPU modifications, unless the Roms I've used included them without my knowledge....g
I did try and overclock the gpu and I get vaired results I havent tried playing any of my graphically intense games yet so im not sure but I believe it may have slightly helped. Its too bad I had thought that the mali chip was better than the 330 thats in most high end phones now.

I dont dare say that mali is poor, but I am willing to say that it does get outshined on more than one occasion....g
Thats just too bad. Maybe the note 3 will run nicer. Although if they do indeed increase the screen size again I dont think I will be abke to handle it so for my sake I hope it stays similar in size. This phone is about as big as im going to want.

Agreed....
This device is more than big enough. And overall, I'm happy with it. The performance is adequate for most applications, and unless a user pushes it really hard, the phone just runs well.
Not superb, but well....IMHO....g

Oh I totally agree. I guess I only notice any thing because that optimus g blew me away. Considering I had previously had a htc vivid and a galaxy nexus as the best phones and so the optimus was amazing. This is more than adequate and I guess more so than the optimus as that had errors just trying to run some games. Like as if the game wasnt able to play well with the hardware. SoI more than like this phone.

You should be trading your note for the optimal g. Benchmark scores are essentially useless and you shouldn't be bothering with them.
Seems like you would be happier with your old phone.

If you liked that g....just wait until the Optimus Pro hits...LOL
It's a bit cheaper built I think, but wow...It's a runner...(so they say)
check out it's specs on google....
The note3 will need to compete directly with it, and a few other choice pieces of hardware in the next 6 months if Sammy wants to stay on top.
The improvements from the note1 to this device are staggering, I can only imagine what a note3 will run like.....g
Oh yes iv read plenty about the g pro and it does sound nice iv thought about trying to trade the note for it. But I then remember the reasons I wanted the note instead. Its the dev comunity and the work that gets done. There was the boringist stuff going on over there. And plus it seems like the samsung devices hold value better and juat plane better ui than lg. Ao I like what I have juat miss some of the faster and smoother useI got out of the optimus.

To be honest benckmarks do matter but only if you really understand them and know how to use them. Im not just someone who sees **** score or awesome scores an decides anything. But the scores do matter. If u took a droid x and ran benchmarks and got **** scores and then ran this not you would see a difference. They matter just if you choose to see it. I know many many people who try and try to convince others that benchmarks dont matter when all a benckmark is is a test of the hardware and if u use the same program on different devices you will note the different qualitys in the scores. Showing you the pieces of hardware or software mostky hardware that is better or worse. Like with the mali vs the 330. Or the quad s4 vs I forget what is in this device. Or an amd vs a intel. They show what does what best. If you know what you are doing.

I don't believe in benchmarks. I can run antutu and get xyz score, then run it again 10 seconds later and get abc score, then run it again 10 seconds late and lmn score, all to varying degrees. It's a gimmick.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
If the scores vary drastically its probably because of the background services and apps doing things. Sometimes there is less sometimes more. U either take that into account or you do it with a fresh phone with nothibg on it. Including no google account. Just sideload the app and then run the test and do it a few times they should be more similar.

Regardless of scores. .. and considering the drastically different user habits, I do believe Samsung found excellent balance in both form and function with this device.
To add more power would kill battery. And drive the device size even larger.
I do feel they have a great balance here.
The note3 should become an absolute power phone if they build from this base....IMHO....g
Hey fellas!
Just got a new G4 to replace my Nexus 5, and I'm encountering some heavily disappointing performance issues like:
poor 3D performance - games like Boom Beach and Smash Hit run just... bad. mediocre/low fps gaming, where my Nexus 5 did perfectly fine!
2D performance (UI) - sometimes laggy UI transitions, typing really quick with SwiftKey keyboard is impossible, it's like the phone can't keep up with what I'm clicking fast, feels majorly laggy.
Anything I'm missing? and low performance/battery saving settings I'm missing? what's happening... oO

There's an option somewhere to lower graphics in games to save battery...its on by default...at least on h811 it is...also in dev options changing all animations to .5 or off fixes any laggy experience
Thanks, seems to help a bit, but it's right on the fine line between actually helping and just a placebo.
I mean, some really visually simple games (Smash Hit) shouldn't run with such low fps, especially not when considering the Nexus 5 ran it perfect.
What about the rest of the UI?
I suspect that some of the problems I'm having with SwiftKey are software related (might not be optimized for G4 yet?), since I'm noticing some other unrelated performance bugs in it; emailed that to them.
I got H815L myself and it's pretty good.
What's your Antutu score?
Personal experience with Swiftkey is it isn't optimised very well at all and only runs properly with a handfull of phones if at all. I gave up on it a long time ago.
As for UI performance, I haven't noticed any lag yet. Games run great too.
I would point the finger at the Apps you're using and make sure you've updated the software on the phone to the latest version.
The nexus phones feel less laggy because the transition animations are so slooooow just like on iphones, and it's just there to hide any lag as it takes so long to open and close the apps.
You'll get used to G4 I have no doubt

I got 49081 on Antutu, and I'm running v10H and all my apps are updated.
I do suspect it's the keyboard app itself messing around with me, because I see several more bugs except for the weird latency.
And just for comparison, the game Smash Hit (on HIGH set on graphics) runs choppy with a Nexus 5 running it perfectly.
I know and understand Android, but why do I need to get a new $500+ phone with new hardware only to find out my 2 years older phone is more "optimized"?

Man idk...maybe some bloat or config issue but i installed smash hit(never played til you mentioned it so thanks for giving me a new addiction)and it ran smooth even on high graphics...my h811 has same hardware and my antutu was much higher...my g4 has been my favorite device since my g2...the g3 was a pile and i hated it...you will have to check out whats clogging up your processing...something isn't right...if all else fails try backing up data and factory reset...many have reported this to solve many issues good luck!

Weird that you got 50k+ on antutu, most of the reviews I Google's were about 41k+.
How can I check what's choking the device?
I have nothing special installed; opened the box, turned the phone on, updated the latest OTA and then all my apps - games and some other stuff but nothing heavy that I didn't have on my N5...
Maybe I'll try to factory reset the phone some day next week and see the results.

Download a wakelock detector or something to see whats stayin active that isn't necessary...also are you rooted...if not you may want to do that...it will allow you to freeze and remove unnecessary and memory hogging apps and will give you a boost...i got rid of a lot of those day 1 and have had a great experience with my g4...we shouldn't have to do this to get the best out of this device but its the way android has gone...also with root you can try ctt mod and other performance boosters to really get the best experience...you can also get better battery life without the extra junk processes running in the back...there are many threads to teach you what can be done with the g4

Yeah, I pretty much know most of the basics of all the advanced tweaking, but since I have H815L the bootloader is locked, so rooting it is a bit pain in the ass.
Someday next week I'll just factory reset it and check again.
Thanks bud!
well ok.
Just did a factory reset and... Nothing.
So friggin disappointing, im completely clueless now.
right when the phone started up (completely blank after reset), downloaded and installed Boom Beach and Smash Hit, and the performance was still bad. Im so annoyed.
What the hell should i do? Why is my BRAND NEW phone is having poor 3D performance?

Root it and bump up lower clock speed on big/little cores with kernel audiutor...it will reduce lag and actually save battery as small processes cause it to jump around a lot on factory settings...short of doing this idk...

Actually i just checked 3 different reviews and the avg antutue score for the G4 is 49k. if you run antutu back to back 3-4 times it will drop to 44k. If it wont rise above 45k then it indicates a heating device with throttling.

How is your battery life in general sot/run time ?
can you try playing your games in a low light environment. So your brightness will be much lower. Do you notice any difference ?
I've had the phone for a total of about 4 days now, SOT seems about 3-4 hours, better than my N5 so I'm happy so far.
Tried gaming with low light / cold environments, doesn't seem to change anything.
Not sure about the throttling, due to the fact that the device is actually pretty cold... not sensing any extreme heat (my N5 was way hotter).
After that factory reset I get about 48k on Antutu, and I actually tried two different "heavy" games (NOVA3 and Asphalt 8) and they run OK...
I genuinely have no idea what's the problem, so instead of rooting and tweaking stuff that seem to not have to be tweaked for others, I'll just wait till I get back home and compare the gaming performance with friends' devices.
If something goes wrong - warranty it is.
Man, I feel you! Been dealing with laggy UI and cursing my choice of purchase since day one. Anyways..
For games - have you disabled 'Game Optimzer' option from 'Battery & Power Saving'?
For laggy UI - Swiftkey is laggy as ****. So try Fleksy, it's a LOT smoother, I barely notice any lag (although it does hiccup once in a while...). As for general performance, you have to accept that some animations will be choppy - that's just how LG UI works, there is no work around. For me the phone was chugging a lot before I uninstalled Inbox by Gmail, after that the phone regained it's speed and it's pretty damn smooth now. It still stutters here and there but ...what to do. Also try delobating it and removing any unnecessary apps and services (you don't need to root for this).
OK so some updates.
Rooted the phone, debloated the s**t out of it, even managed to got to 5h 2m screen-on time with that lol.
Tried to tweak lots of other things as wellwell, got me some great bootloops in the process. eventually I practically totally wiped the system and flashed a 100% clean one.
Smash hit (on High setting in graphics) and Boom Beach still work a bit choppy.
NOVA3 seems to work ok.
AnTuTu is about 50.5k.
I seriously can't figure out what's the problem.
the 2d phone UI seems almost perfect, and the benchmark score seems OK.
What the hell could be wrong?
Is there any more testing (games/benchmarks/logs) I could do to try and figure this out?
It's going to take me another week till I go back to my country to check with a different H815L. Asked a friend with the US model, she claims Smash Hit works flawlessly fluid. can't understand that.
I find it funny, the fact that I might ask for an under-under-warrenty device replacement just because couple of games run bad.
Hoping the XDA gods would help me in some way, before heading the noob warranty-for-nothing route.
Thanks!

Dude i has the g4 H815L and it is works fine but maybe it becouse the root.
I has the device for few months with stock version of lg and my g4 works very good and when i play games like Goat Simulator he got hot if not very hot but if your device don't get hot becouse of games so for sure you won't get high preformance.
Plus my bettery works fine and my phone can work perfectly and smothly with smart watch and survive one day with out any problames.

Every CPU (SoC) is unique. Remember, even two identical CPUs can deliver different benchmark results, thus have different real world performance. Unless there's a software issue you haven't found out about yet, it's also likely that you just got a bad one.

Hey,
I have a problem with my Nexus 5X. Overall the daily usage is pretty much the same as last week, but when I will start a bigger App or a Game the phone becomes slow. I closed all apps and restarted the phone. Then I started the Geekbench 3 and the score is so low! I don't know why. I attached a screenshot. Can anyone help me?
What firmware are you using?
Dont look at benchmark's score, it doesn't reflect real performance of phone, e.g my sgs3 gets 40k in antutu but nexus Just 45-50k
Lower performance in bigger apps is caused cus when CPU reaches 55*C it turns off cores to reduce heat, you can change it with custom kernel.
I have the newest security Patch. And the Geekbench is just to demonstate how slow the device is. The Performance issue Starts when I open a game or a big app. The phone is cool and it heats up minutes after playing the game.
But is it slow in daily use? Or Just in big apps?
Look on ur average RAM use, maybe some apps make ur phone slower like fb messenger (it can take even 500mb up)

as already said, phone benchmarks mean next to nothing these days. closing apps also rarely helps speeding up a device. removing apps from the recent-screen doesn't close/stop an app btw, they redid that quite a while ago afaik.
and as a last note: restarting the phone is a very resource intensive and long process and can easily take until long after you are already able to use the phone again (mediascanner, background/system services and apps starting...)
I don't have the Facebook Messenger. Ram usage is around 1.3 GB. And it's everytime. Not only when it's restarted. I don't have Cleaner Apps or security Apps. The Speed changed ca. 2 days ago. Last Tuesday everything was fine. Benchmarks were fine, Apps were fast and everything was smooth. But then I don't know.
So that's very weird. What did you install whole last two days?
Only the game Smash Hit. I have wiped data and Cache. It didn't helped so I Uninstalled the App. Still the same.
Hm, So I'd recommend reinstalling ur rom, what would you say about it?
I can do that, but its really annoying when I must Reset my phone until a week.
So it has just a week?

It's my first week with this phone. It's completely new!
Wow So I'm surprised bro. Don't you have any another issues typical for Nexus like yellow screen, slow AC charging to make a complain?

Yes. The yellow Screen. But its fixed with the Developer Option "cooler colors". Buildet was this phone here in October 2015.
So, you can try to make a complain or Just reinstall rom /change kernel. No other way
I don't want to loose my warranty .
Edit:
I have wiped my complete Cache again and the score is a little bit better. Also the game. It's faster but not as fast as before.
If I'm not wrong you can take back ur warranty by flashing stock and locking back bootloader
I don't want to change anything. Are there no other possibilitys?
Solution
I had the same "problem".
Try to lock your phone and leave it to rest for few minutes. Then unlock the phone and run geekbenchmark 3.
You should get normal results now (~1230 for single & ~3500 for multi-core).
I hope this helps.
I'm facing exact same problem, bought my nexus 5x almost 1 month ago I did the geekbench but the scores were very low specially single-core, so I head up to couple of forums they suggest to reinstall the geekbench app or install the 64-bit version of it. I didn't get the 64-bit version of the app nor there is any stock setting on the phone to run apps completely on 64 bit. ( Note: Im no pure stock, never rooted, locked bootloader )
Guys I need help with my G4, situation with gaming is kinda unbelievable... I'm running android 6.0, and most games can't hit over 20fps mark, practically gaming it's more of frustration than fun
Examples:
Dragons rise of berk - 15-16 fps
Real Racing 3 - 20-21 fps
Jurasic World - 18-19fps
FF lagacy - 25-26fps
And things gets more interesting, I have also G2 that makes on average 30% better fps on the same games. Did an Antutu test, G4 is way better than the same G2, huge difference in 3d test.
Checked the net for the issue and found on this site folks that have it but hadn't have in with the Lollipop before that. Please give me some pointers for a future actions, is it wise to try go back to 5.1 or maybe wait for the next update? Or anything at all, I'm open to all ideas as long as they don't cost me my warranty (these LGs are not the most durable devices out there...).
Thanks!
I swear its d3vice to d3vice. I use ps1 and other emulators all the time ive never really watched the frame rates but never noticed lag. I got a gear vr ive been doin a bunch of games on it and it runs killer.
But im on lolipop heavly debloated bare core system.
Stock rom is riddled with throttling while gaming, I did notice games like hearthstone and minecraft getting unplayable after 20 minutes or so, fix is the way of going custom kernel and disabling stock thermal settings, soc on our phone doesn't heat up as much as 810 anyways (also 1440p much more demanding than 1080p take that in to consideration as well)
Of course i tested the heating issue, when the phone is cold is just a bit better, but the same thing basically. For example it would be 1fps difference cold-hot. Also interestingly on Antutu my device scores more than the same G4 with the same soft. Just watching the 3d garden part the phone G4 kills G2, many times smother, but when you try real game is the other way around.
In the other threads people that can't play also score normal on benchmarks.
My phone came with 6.0 stock, so can anyone made the upgrade from Lollipop share their experience? Also if anyone with MM can actually play some on the games I mentioned above as an example?

wich kernel you use on G2? i wish there was a dorimanx for G4..
3.10.84 and the soft is V20d-EUR-XX. I'm definitely not a gamer, but can't accept having a G4 that performs like a 80$ lenovo neither... Honestly I was thinking of switching to Samsung, but 20min of reading and I was left with the feeling that this action would just gain me changing one problem with another ones. At lest here I have only that FPS issue...and besides it I like the phone and would strongly prefer not to switch with another brand.
The most irritating thing is that the phone has no signs of hardware problems. On the Gamebench site there's plenty of test done with the stock 5.1 rom - https://www.gamebench.net/en/node/117
As you can see the same games do on average 30fps, witch is as it should be.
Just found a thread discussing the same issue on Galaxy S6....thats it with the brand switching idea...
I don't believe I'll ever have a phone that has everything working in order...

The g3 was a good one
G2 was even better considering the time it first came up, it was also faster than G3. Anyways G4 is better than both, i'm pretty sure this is just a software issue.
Disabling LOGD needs root, right?

Rolled back to lollipop.....now Antutu scores are higher, but gaming is better just a bit. Do you other G4 owners play any games at all? Can't believe no one complains?
Is a hardware problem possible if the phone runs all benchmark and stress tests perfectly?

There is a setting that you can toggle in Settings > Battery & power saving, and then turn off Game optimizer. Don't know if it would help, but it's worth a shot.

I've mentioned it a few times in previous posts, I think the gaming performance on this device is just simply horrendous.

Like i said i play ps1 and loads of games on mine. never notice any lag. I just modded my gear vr to work on my g4 and all the vr apps and games run surprisingly very well. Ive never been one to do benchmarks. Look and feel is more important than numbers to me. Ive seen phones get low benchmarks and game really well.
Im on lolipop by the way
Tested another thing, picked 2 games from the gamebench site that have been tested on g4... So Modern Combat 5 - 29fps Boom Beach - 58fps, both run super fluid. And the scores are exactly like in their test.
Having said that Real Racing continues to be a lot worse but they do 32fps on average. How is this possible? Look like the problem is concentrated on some games, not logical to me? How would it be possible every device to chose individually what games it likes??

Try Sim City BuildIt out on your phone and follow the tutorial right through to Dans City and see how that runs, its pretty poor on mine.
Will try it, even better its a strategy one. Btw, phonearena had complains about underperforming gpu on this phone. Was playing in 1080p trick possible without root?

Dont know about without root but that might be it. i forgot i had my resolution dropped to 1080 for a long time now.
Ive been runnin all my vr 3d intensives in 1080. And like i said ive never noticed lags.

When I play 3d scenes in Antutu they are 1080p, and G4 plays them a LOT smother than G2. So I guess that might solve the problem, 2k is absolutely unnecessary for gaming purposes on this small screen.
Also I'm not sure that the acctual intensity of the game is the main reason, thing looks more like game to game or optimizing issues.
