So far, there has been no solution to restore IMEI other than sending your phone to a service center.
i didnt backup
I'll say it again.
Send your phone to an authorized service/repair center.
Just restore a stock rom will fix it i gues. But i have a backup a backup if needed. From a simlock free phone (Dutch) If you still need it tomorrow tell. I can upload. For no i got to go to werk and sleep after it.

I am in the same boat as you. My note 2 says the same for the pass week I have tried everything. No one out there knows how to fix unless you have the efs backups. I am going to a shop near my place today for them to rewrite my imei info my phone again as that is the only option I can find to fix it.

[Q] EMEI number changed. how to restore it?

Hi,
I bought second hand a Galaxy Note II. everything works fine except it can´t connect to any provider. I checked the EMEI and it is not the one in the back label.
I searched in Lost or Stolen phones database and this altered EMEI showed up as belonging to an Apple iPhone stolen in Kenya. The search of the legal EMEI in the back label showed no results so I suppose if I can restore the correct EMEI, it should work.
Why the former owner changed a working EMEI to a not working one is beyond my understanding. The phone seems to have the legal not altered firmware or so it says when you enter download mode. May be he attempted to unlock the phone but instead of that he ended up replacing the EMEI information and blocked the phone.
I bought the phone from a trusted seller in ebay who sells stock returns, shop liquidations, etc. I trust them but they don't know the history of the phone before they received it.

Did your imei change to 004999010640000? this is a common problem happening to lots of people when they flashed the newest firmware and then an older, if thats the case; you should try to flash the original firmware(Sammobile), or look if somewhere in the memory of the phone a file called efs backup is found. Otherwise you're having a big problem.

Yes, that's exactly the EMEI number!
no efs backup file found.
I will try flashing stock BTU firmware from Sammobile but can this restore the EMEI?

You can try, I heared rumor that it saved some of their phone. If that doesn't work there won't be any way you'll get your original imei back for free, so you'll possibly need to contact Samsung. Try to install the latest firmware of samsung(MG1 I guess).

The OP says this won't work in my case:
Q: My imei number like 0000**** or 0049**** if i flash this patch it will work or it will bring my original imei number back ?
A: This patch is not about your EFS Folder it is just about network so it won't fix your imei number or bring your original imei number back.

Note 2 gt n7100 imei problem

Hello!
I'm new to this forum and this is my first post so sorry for any mistakes i may have made.
I changed rom on my galaxy note 2 gt n7100 and my imei changet to something like 04400..
i get the signal but says not registerd on network.
so i wan't to change my imei to my original, i have original imei on back of the phone, but i don't know how to do it..
please guys i need help on this one.
What rom did you flash ??
Your device is an international version of this device ...and the I-317 roms are likely not compatible..
Do you have a backup of your factory rom ?? And do you have a backup of your EFS folder ??..(contains the IMEI number )...
If no backup of your rom exists ...you will need to restore the device using Odin and a factory N-7100 rom...
Hopefully the EFS folder is still present on the device ...so when the restore occurs ...your device will see it...
If the folder is gone...you have a serious problem ...g

I don't know if it's help. But it works on my N7100...
First of all, i'm assuming that you know how to run odin. Run odin and run your note2 in download mode (volume down + menu + power). Find a stock firmware and open achive, save MODEM file. In odin, choose PHONE menu (NOT PDA) open MODEM file that you save from stock ROM archive and start the task.
It will auto reboot after flashing.....and you will get your original IMEI again
I hope it helps =)

This basically means you have corrupted the EFS partition of your phone. This can only be fixed in two ways:
1. Like @johntheredimid mentioned, you need to restore the backup (if you took a backup) of your EFS partition before it was corrupted. The method for restore can be found here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2420902
2. If you didn't take a backup, you need to take your phone to a service center and ask them to fix it for you. Would probably have to have your board replaced. So you should install your country's firmware and unroot properly before taking it there. Unrooting methods can be found in the general section.
Looks like this problem is widespread
