Good day I'm planning to get a S4 Mini soon, likely the 3G version, but I don't want to root so I was wondering whether Samsung has added Apps2SD ability to it yet.
When they updated the full S4 Samsung said they were also going to add App2SD ability to the S4 Active and Mini and I was just wondering whether that has happened yet?
On the Samsung App store there is an App2SD-like app which shows support for the S4 Mini so can any of you use that app?
I'd prefer not have to root and use Link2SD....so if this hasn't happened yet then I might have to get at getting an S3 instead, despite that one not being extremely hard to operate one-handed.
When I bought my phone about a month ago apps2sd didn't work. I managed to transfer my apps to the sd with "Folder Mount" but this app requires root.
Hi I'm new to the s4 mini section.
To be perfectly honest, this phones internal memory is large enough for most things.
If you have multiple large games that you wish to keep, the quickest way is an app called gl to sd.

App2SD is supported.
Use an app called AppMgr III (formerly called App2SD)

Yup I'm currently stock, nothing messed with. You can go to application manager and select Move to SD.
Read my previous post because I just edited it.
Edit: but remember if an app has not been designed with App2SD in mind, then you can't move it.

Thats true, it will copy to the emulated sd card which is in fact your internal storage, thus resulting to fail moving as the app is already there.

App2sd is not yet supported. When i used to boot up AppMgr3 on samsung stock fw update (July/Aug '13 update) i got "Your device is not supported because the sdcard is being emulated" and resulting in not reading the extSdcard instead.
Sent from my GT-I9195 using xda premium
Oh darn. Perhaps the update has only been released in Eradica's region and not in your region yet/or not yet released by your carrier?
I don't know about any new samsung stock updates as i'm not running stock firmware ever since CM alphas. I failed to mention that i use CyanogenMod 10.1.3 firmware, so im not really having space issues.
Also i could always flash my kernel and rom back to original stock if any means necessary due to warranty void.
Sent from my GT-I9195 using xda premium
Well that explains it then because the is a function Samsung is specifically adding back to it's S4 line and perhaps also some S3 models with an update. Android JB which your CM is based on doesn't allow native App2SD anymore.
Ok, I just got my S4 Mini LTE version yesterday and I can confirm that Samsung have in fact released the update because I have the Move to SD card function for most of my downloaded applications on the stock 4.2.2 version.

if you read the info for the program you are trying to use you would see it states it doesn't work with Samsung phones (specifically calls out the S3, which has alot in common with the Note II)
I'm surprised the Note doesn't have a native solution for moving apps to external storage? i could have sworn it's been a feature since ICS.... or maybe I'm forgetting something.

So is there any way currently to transfer apps to sd cards on a Samsung device?
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
At the moment the only solution seems to be rooting. It's stopping me from buying the SGNII until larger internal memory released OR a non-root solution is found. Apparently, it's Jellybean that stops it not actually the phone - just what I've read.
I did a quick search, and could not find the answer to this...Is there a way to move my apps to my external SD card on stock ATT Jelly Bean? I have not rooted yet, as the phone is still new and I want to make sure there are no defects before I void my warranty. It would be great if there was a work around for this without rooting, but my next question is does CM10 stable allow apps to external SD? Any help is greatly appreciated.
There are several apps in the play store for that...

Samsung removed the functionality in thier stock rom. I have not tried app2sd yet, but in my search I got the impression that would not work. Thanks for the reply though, I will give it a shot.

Like it was said above, Samsung removed the feature. The phone literally can't read apps from the sd card. It just doesn't work. None of the apps in the play store (all of which require root by the way) will work. There's a hack by a guy called Zedomax (or something like that) that might work. But you will need to root your phone. It basically makes the phone think that your ext sd is your internal sd and vice versa.
Also, don't be afraid to root and tamper with your phone. If worse comes to worse, there are ways to reset the flash counter so it's like it was never tampered with even if you hard brick tour phone, there are places that will do a JTAG which is pretty much a guarantee to un Bricking your device. Hope this helps.

I thought you couldn't at all. Can anyone esle confirm this?
Use link2sd.
With root you can probably also use Directory Bind to store game data into sd. I use it on my s3 and note 2. It's not in the app store but it's here in xda. Just Google it.

Here is my thing no one has said they have done it. I keep hearing probably with root!
I just need someone to confirm this, I don't want the gs4 if I can't install appa to a SD card.
DirectoryBind was great on the S3, but doesn't work on the S4. I installed FolderMount (pro) and it works beautifully.
Anyone try link2sd?

Thanks. Atleast there's an alternative. I was afraid when you said Directory Bind didnt work that I would have to return my phone and wait for the 32g version.

I'm just wondering if there's anything in 4.4 that is NOT as good as 4.3? Any limitations or disadvantages you can think of? (I've read something to do with the external SD function...???)

--> extSD card not writable by system <--
Are you saying you cannot write to the SD card with apps like OfficeSuite Pro or the camera or just that the system will not install and run programs from the SD card?
If an application is designed to save its files to the card in a folder created by said application, then yes. If the application cannot create a folder on the card, then no. That is a quick explanation.

I bet they fix that one quick.
BTW - When I went to KitKat on some of my other tabs all I had to do was reinstall the same apps (same versions) and they worked fine. The reinstall did something that made them work fine. Out of several hundred apps it was only a handful.

Is this only for 10.1 2014 with KK? Because I dont think this is KK related as Chromecast works for my Note 3 with SinLess KK ROM.
can someone quickly elaborate about extSD card issue
I've been able to grab small tid bits here and there.
does that mean that I can't store data, or that apps that for example fpse use ext sd for rom storage will no longer be able to use extSd ??
Sd card will work pretty much like on pre-Android, pre-Symbian phones.
Only good for media files, which must be stored via a pc, not say, loaded with the tablet from a nas.
Probably pics and vids taken with the Note can be saved on the card.
They force all more sophisticated users to root. Others, who enjoy being submitted to rules, even silly ones, and miss Adolf, are already using iOS and WP anyway.
Important Change

Hey glad I caught this thread on time. So since you're on kitkat, you are unable to turn your device around 180 degrees. And that pretty much renders all cases useless for the typing position UNLESS you buy Samsung's pricey case that can fold without having you turn the device.

Not sure where you got that info. I'm on KitKat and turning the device works just as it did before the upgrade. I can put the power cord at the top if I need to. There's nothing I tried that doesn't work with the Note upside down.

Really? It might just be my custom ROM then. Well I'm currently experiencing that problem with Kat1.0 kitkat ROM for the SMP600. Is anyone else using that ROM encounter this problem? Is there an xposed hack for this?

I also was disapointet when i mentioned that there are only 3GB App-space on the N7.
But CM11 is on the way and this will fix the problem (unified storage).
Also an Oppo-Staff said there would be a solution for an future firmware release from oppo.

CM11 won't change the partition setup.
There's a potential LVM trick I'm looking into for omni but it's going to take a while as I need to finish the basics on omni first (like audio)

Quick question.
How do I find out how much storage is being taken up by my apps? I just want to make sure 3 gb won't be an issue before I order the phone. I don't really have any games installed so don't think it will be an issue.

That 3 GB limit for App data is really annoying I don't really care about ColorOS not working with a different partition layout, since I'm only using custom ROMs (currently on Team Gummy, really great!)
