[Q] How to RUU? - Verizon HTC One (M7)

I'd like to return to stock. How do I RUU? I have an unlocked bootloader but I don't have S-OFF.

[Q] Can I use any RUU for any DHD?

What does the RUU replace exactly?
Can I brick my phone by flashing the wrong RUU?
Why do people downgrade instead of flashing an older RUU?
The RUU replaces everything. Radio, bootloader, ROM, recovery. So you'll loose root and ENG S-OFF but you'll keep radio S-OFF.
You cant flash an older RUU if you don't have S-OFF.
And no, it doesn't matter which RUU you flash.

is the radio S-OFF flag hidden that deep? even an RUU wont reset it!
so basically if I have radio S-OFF I can flash any RUU I like. that's cool
btw what's ENG again? and what's the different between ENG S-OFF (or ON) and radio S-OFF (or ON)?
my understanding is that if you have radio S-OFF then everything is S-OFF and you can mess with the device as bad as you like
the way i understand, you could say Eng S-OFF is a "security off" placed after bootloader and Radio S-OFF is a "security off" placed before it, so even a normal bootloader see it as a S-OFF... please, someone correct me if i'm wrong.
Radio S-OFF isn't THAT deep, it's just stay in a place not touched by flashing officlal RUU.
So when you are Radio S-OFF and flash a RUU, bootloader and everything beyond it is replaced; you keep with a Radio S-OFF (cause it stays before bootloader), but lose Eng and Root (cause it stays after bootloader).
you can't flash a older RUU without Radio S-OFF and to achieve it, you need eng s-off and for that you need root. So, if you have a 1.7xxxxxx RUU, you can't simple flash a older RUU...
i hope it could be understood, my english is not quite good when i need so much adverbs, past sentences and whatever more! =o)

S-ON

How do I restore s-on without flashing a stock rom or ruu?
I don't think flashing a ROM wipes S-Off, and I don't think running a RUU does either. I believe AAHK can revert back to S-On.

What are you planning to do? Flashing a RUU will not affect S-OFF. If you are reverting to S-ON and will have a locked bootloader, you will need to run an stock ruu.

S-On: security on. Can be locked, unlocked, relocked, or unlockable depending on bootloader version and current/previous lock state. If unlocked, can flash ROMs but requires flashing boot.img from fastboot each time you flash a new ROM zip. Even if unlocked, cannot flash radios. Even if unlocked, may not be able to flash ported ROMs.
S-Off: security off. Can flash anything: radios, ported ROMs, and zips (without fastboot flashing boot.imgs).
AAHK: a tool once used for getting S-Off. Now retired. If your bootloader says AAHK you probably have S-Off.

Will my phone go back to S-ON if I run the stock RUU?

Hey if I run the stock RUU, will my phone go back to S-ON? You can't get S-Off if you update your device via OTA or the RUU. So, I'd like to know if I wanted to go back to Sense after flashing the GPE RUU.
You'll be soff.

[Q] switch from s-on to s-off again

i returned back to stock using this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/general/guide-return-m9-to-100-stock-s-off-t3091730
i locked the bootloader, flashed a ruu for official status and switched from s-off to s-on.
now my question:
can i switch from s-on to s-off again without unlock the bootloader, flash recovery, root and sunshine?
i ask because my device was already s-off... maybe what sunshine did is still present on the device and with a command i can easily switch to s-off again?

nope. not sure why you would do all that but you will have to unlock, root, sunshine again. just do all that again and run ruu if you want to be stock but keep soff. sunshine will not cost you anything though as long as its the same phone.
