My note 2 is less than a month old. i had a bad flashing experience after flashing MIUI Rom for my phone on the note 2 android development thread. This was my first rom flashing on the phone. I luckily backed up my EFS.img before flashing. After flashing the rom i lost my IMEI...i had another issues with the rom hence restored nandroid backup of my phone using CWM. & since then after restoring my EFS.img each time i will get my IMEI back but if i reboot my phone for any reason the IMEI is wiped out. I have tried restoring using the command from the elevated Terminal emulator & using EFS pro tool.
Still the same...each time i have to restart my phone i will lose my IMEI.
is there any way of keeping my EFS partition or IMEI intact after each reboot . I am on stock ROM but i didnt flash it back using ODIN as i mentioned earlier i restored my nandroid backup.
Any help will be greatly appreciated...Please help

it seems that the backup u created u must have left your efs in selecting while backup thus the recovery backup is not giving your imei back rather u are doing it manually so once u get it done , I would suggest to flash fresh using odin

flash the pit partition first using odin and then the stock it should solve the issue permanently if not take it to service center
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31801134&postcount=4
download pit from here and then flash the stock rom
if you dont want to take risk just go stock completely and use triangle away and get your status normal and count zero and give it to ss saying that the imei gets off. let them solve

So I have flashed some customer roms and then used odin to go back to stock after failing to restore a back-up using TWRP. After using Odin and the latest factory image from XDA. I am still showing signs of old flashes. I would like restore the phone completely back to factory. I am not sure if I need to reformat something using twrp. Can anyone help with some advice?

If you need to send it back, you need to:
wipe data/factory reset
reset flash counter (requires root, triangle away)
odin stock rom
The root toolkit in original development forums can babysit you through the whole process

Elaborate on what u mean by signs of old flashes
Odin should put back stock, u will keep storage and sd untouched
If you flashed a 4.2.2 aokp cm10 rom I think it screws up nandroid restore folder, it redirects restores to data folder...
I lost my backup too
Chain fire app has root away script use that to remove any sings of flashing

I infact had flashed AOKP. I was seeing signs of it left behind even after using odin to go back to stock. This is not my first Sammy device and havne't run into this issue before. I will try wiping things down multiple times. I think the thing that maybe bothers me the most was after going back to a factory image the last time Samsung Kies would not even check for updates saying " your devices current firmware is not supported to update from kies"
This is new as I have had my Note 2 rooted w/ custom recovery since it came out and had been able to update using kies in the past, just wasn't able to use the OTA updates from the device. (which I knew from the past)
Anyways I hope the clearing multiple times data/system/cache clears it up after another Odin flashing
Problem #1: Yellow List on top of my home screen (Factory Mode?)
Problem #2: Emergency Calls Only (w/ simcard)
Problem #3: Wrong IMEI and Serial Number
Problem #4: No efs backup I think. Have nandroid backup of past rom.
Been reading many threads about IMEI efs none was successful.

Post #19 said to flash stock rom with other files. Used this:
http:https://hotfile.com/dl/180451349/e1694c1/N7100XXDLJ2_OXA_FACTORY.zip.html//
Tried flashing via Odin 3.09, always stuck at SetupConnection. Flashed all files BTW.
Any suggestions?
For flashing try another Odin Version. I had the same problem with my Galaxy S. I've just chosen a higher version

I googled odin versions i think 3.09 is the latest. also tried 3.07 and 1.85 but all gave the same result.
flashing with the pit file fails (0 success / 1 fail). it also corrupts the phone giving the "firmware update encountered a problem, connect to kies" message.
after restoring im back to Post #1.

If u have nandroid backup, restore that no matter on which rom you are. Just wipe data and cache before restoring. After restoration take efs backup and flash stock rom or different rom.
Nandroid backup is best for restore efs.

I wanted to get all of your opinion on backing up the IMEI.
My situation is, I had rooted last year with the s3 toolkit. 1st rom I flashed was paranoid android then now i'm always flashing Task's AOKP. I'm currently on an older release of his rom (5-21-13) and i've probably flashed it a dozen times without any problems.
My question is, should I continue flashing this rom even though I have not backed up my IMEI or EFS folder or should I flash back to stock right away then, backup IMEI/EFS and continue flashing task's rom? Are the chances high of losing IMEI even though i've flashed the same rom for at least a year now?
I have an AT&T SGH-I747 with baseband DLK3.
In addition, if I were to flash back to stock, can I just use this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2161667
Unfortunately the download link is no longer there so would anyone have a copy?
Also, would this be the best / easiest way to backup the IMEI as of right now? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1804117
Thank you!:cyclops:

I don't know about backing up your IMEI but if you want to switch back to stock 4.1.1 I recommend using this instead: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2363882

Unfortunately EFSpro will only let me do the option under backup on EFS Professional to backup the tz, efs, modemst1, and modemst2. Qualcomm crashes due to me currently being on AOSP. Looks like you must be on stock in order to use that. Any tools that will work for other roms besides stock?

If I were to go back to stock it would simply be to backup the IMEI then flash back to AOSP right away. It looks like that restores stock everything (stock kernel, stock rom, and stock recovery)
I would like to keep my recovery but flash stock rom for AT&T S3 through TWRP so I can keep my recovery.
I backed up my imei because the more posts I read, the more it seemed like having a backup would be crucial if you wanted to restore and be successful.
Since that stock rom that I linked to was no longer active, I searched my old backups and found a stock CWM nandroid backup I made after I rooted. I was on TWRP so I flashed the recovery back to CWM via rom manager. Restore the stock nandroid I made then backed up my IMEI.
Switched back to TWRP and made a nandroid backup of the stock rom with twrp so I don't have to mess with recoveries in the future.
Flashed my 5-21 nandroid that was Task's AOSP then just updated to his latest 9-10 release.
All is great and I have a full NV backup.
Thank you all for the suggestions.

Download a terminal app(root required one) then type su enter reboot nvbackup.
To restore it's su reboot nvrestore.
!!!!!!DO NOT RESTORE BEFORE YOU BACKUP!!!! You will overwrite nv with empty data possibly losing imei forever.

My question is how do i install cyanogenmod 11 and also get network service now that i have my imei and base-band back. I'm not familiar with efs backing up or what to do with it to get network service working on a customer rom.
Any help is appreciated. thanks

To do that you must be rooted and have a custom recovery.
Download and Install PHILZ recovery latest version.
Make Nandroid backup using recovery. Keep it somewhere safe.
Download doctor Ketan's Multitool zip file and install it via recovery.
Now you will see Aroma window with various options. Chose EFS BACKUP.
Exit Multitool and restart the phone.
Copy EFS backup from internal memory card to Phone (approximately 20mb size)
Now Flash any rom u like.
Press thumps up if you found this suggestion helpful.

Hello other solution is to use TWRP recovery , when you do a bakup whis this recovery you can choose what you want to keep : EFS, data, system etc... and where int SdCard or extSdCard.
I hope this can help you.

My friend had the same problem..he has a efs backup but both of us dont knw how to restore it back (tried few methods post googling but none worked even after saying successful)
Unbelievable how many of us fell into the same trap. I also flashed this recovery because I wasn't paying enough attention to what I downloaded. And I also lost my IMEI. I hope you backed up your EFS or you could be in trouble.
If you backed up your EFS then just recover it with the same program that you used to make the backup. If that doesn't work try flashing the stock Samsung ROM and try again. You can also try to flash the modem. This helps sometimes.
I had a backup of my EFS. I tried to restore it in CM12, didn't work. I tried to restore it in Ditto4, didn't work. Then I used an old STOCK Samsung ROM. First I got a generic IMEI whereas I got null/null on custom ROMs before. Making progress. Then I tired to recover my IMEI eith EFS. Didn't work. Then I flash the modem with modem_XXDME4__ (i'm from central Europe) and voila, IMEI back.
This is of course all possible only if you backed up your EFS file. If you did not, chances of getting the phone back are quite slim. I've read about a hunderd threads while trying to recover my phone and some say that when you don't have a backup of your EFS partition, just flashing your stock Samsung rom might work. By stock Samsung ROM I mean the one that was preloaded when you bought your phone.
Good luck.

As what @Sheeptar (Thanks ) said, you can try to restore the efs using the method you used to back it up.
Else, try flashing a stock rom. This happened to me too and I was in the middle of flashing a new rom, so I flashed a stock rom using odin, and didn't have a problem while using the new rom.
I guess that version has no modem support, trying flashing previous version
thanks a lot guys ...
had a full twrp back and restored same ....
u ppl are so supportive ....keep up d good work ..
lolz i restored d full backup
didnt tried only efs...
another possible way..
This worked for me once.. Restore the stock version. E.g. Verizon. Then use the setup/phone/reset to factory option. I flashed the wrong note 2 room onto my i605 . Restoring via twerp didn't work, but the above did.
