Hi!
Guys maybe should we need this 4.2/4.3 stuff with no support for 'non neon' arch
and make full working CM9 (maybe PAC) ROM
we don't have this one... only ICS stock/mod Mod Edit..profanity removed
what do U think??
Well, I think you'd get more people on board if you phrased it in a way less insulting and/or demotivating towards the devs.
Most of them, if not all, have put in a lot of their free time doing pretty amazing stuff, and brought AOSP goodness in many different flavours to our Glides.
I would personally like one ROM, which is a stable all-rounder. A final, definitive build, if you will. But I think that would require a group of devs hammering out the kinks, and a lot of time. I personally wouldn't mind less features, as long as the regular things work, including GPS and VOIP. The only added thing I wish for, aside from debloated stock, is being able to UV/OC the CPU.
But whatever happens, I'm grateful to all the devs here. Even for just trying, and coming up with impressive ROMs.

I have a linux system up, CM9 repo sync'd and downloaded the samsung opensource for ICS kernel ....
If you read through the CM9 thread, Dman dropped it and went right to CM10 ...
Now on CM10.1, which we're on now (JB 4.2 ?) the Tonyp bluetooth doesn't compile (so i've read) BUT in the thread for his device (LG Optimus 2x) the bluetooth (headset profile) would work with the bluez built into it on 10.1 (jb 4.2.1) ...
Now, I did buy a Relay 4G, it's in the mail so I'll be able to play with my glide as much as I want without taking so much time etc. so i could play w/ ICS ... but just suggesting this isn't enough without actually doing something to help out ....
What've you done to pitch in and make this idea happeN?
To All Devs,
I say a big thank you for all the execellents ROMs created I never knew the hard work you guys put in to it until I tried to create a custom ROM for a Chinese android phone(tecno L3).kudos to you all.

Any chance to revive this idea of a CM9 fully working? No voice-BT and no Skype bugs.

R2's rom is great but I think I speak for many users that are frustrated with the lack of updates with OMGB. Maybe it would be possible for someone to get R2's rom and update it with some CM7 fixes and other things. Is this to daunting of a task or why hasn't someone else taken up this Rom???
What's wrong w/ CM7 itself? I don't think there's anything major left not working on the recent (>= 28) builds.
He's done with omgb he's gonna make omfgb next. It works well enough for most people. There isn't really much that can be improved.

i am beyond confused. have you even tried CM7 before posting your request???? Everything there works now and its stock (no theming) with a few enhancements (because thankfully slayher, cyanogen and team are very smart). This is probably beyond insulting to all the devs working extremely hard on developing GB for our incs. If you believe it is easy for devs to whip out roms, please either contribute to the process or contribute donations.
I hate to be traffic police (because most people who do so are pompous numnuts IMHO) but this thread does not belong in dev section by any stretch of the imagination. Its just a request, nothing more.
compare cm7 vs. OMGB
There are so many fixes on there that aren't applied to OMGB.
I don't like cm7 because it feels like a could use a vanilla 2.2 rom add a custom launcher and it would be pretty similar. Just not a fan of customizations.

brad, please test out the functionality and speed of CM7. GB does add significant things. I am a tinkerer so I know why I cant go back to 2.2 anymore. There are enough functionality enhancements. And I dont understand, what customizations??? I have flashed 11 CM7 builds - trust me until you are a crackflasher, you will never delve deep enough to really use the power of GB.
I understand where the OP is coming from. My guess is you would have to wait for OMGB to develop and catch up with CM7 in terms of bug fixing.
I too wanted a "stock" GB rom.. but CM7 brought it close for me after I installed stock gingerbread launcher that someone ripped and posted on the market.
What kind of "bugs" are you referring to?
In most of the custom rom threads, dev's do not like being asked about why the camera doesn't work. But I can't seem to find the answer so i'm posting it here.
What exactly is the problem with ics and camera's? why are there so much difficulties in enabling the camera in ics?

Because ics is a new android base and they are working as hard as they can to get it working. They don't want to hear about it not only because its in the list of what doesn't work and don't want bug reports, they also have put in an incredible amount of work and so many people put pressure on them about the camera as it is. Developing roms and kernels without a working base to start with is incredibly painstaking and is not easy. It's amazing they have gotten as far as they have with it since ace devices have no official ics base to work with. Just be patient. It will all get worked out eventually.
And don't forget that camera is not the most important in a phone
So they're going step by step... this is a very good way to proceed.
Because camera is for cam whores jk

The guys at the Desire development managed to get the camera working: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1403113
It's a rough hack and not very stable yet but works!
Also, the current ICS roms are running 2.6.x kernels, I'm positive it has something to do with that. Wonder if we'll even see 3.x on the DHD! Hope so!
Don't understand me wrong. I have great appreciation for the work that dev's do. Everyday I enjoy the fruits of the custom rom that I have loaded onto my device.
It was just that the camera in ics seems to be a problem for many custom rom developers and I assumed that it was something more specific to the developements with ics.

The kernel has changed and that requires new libaries to allow the camera to interact with it, these are the properiatary blobs that only HTC can officialy provide, now it should be possible when one of the DHD sister phones i.e Desire Z are provided with an official build that the camera can be reverse engineered, but if not it's gonna be a matter of trial and error to get any knid of functionality.
BTW If anyone with a better than my sketchy understanding wants to butt in and correct me please feel free
BTW BTW Lordclockan has a build with partialy working camera up and running
I agree with you. All the best to the devs ! Good luck !
I think the title says it all....
I'm probably going to flash an ICS rom once they are out of Alpha.....
But for now.. thinking about moving over to plain jane Android... probably using ADW EX to theme it out like ICS (since ADW has the nice folder action)....
So people's opinion.. best NON SENSE Rom at the moment?
Latest Cyan? Bugless? The Kang'd one in the development thread? Another I don't know about?
Chime in... all opinions welcome (I would like to know "why" you are stating what you are though)...
p.s. no flaming others on this please It's purely opinions.. everyone is entitled...
p.s.s. any kernel advice is welcome as well
Seriously use Evervolv ICS rom preview 5. I am using it as my daily driver. I posted links to the rom, exchange.apk fix and gapps on rootzwiki. As I am not allowed to post links on xda at the moment you would have to go to rootzwiki.
What's not working on it? I take pics of my niece all the time (she's 4) so I need a working camera... don't care about video though....
Also I use this for navigation.... and part of where I drive is kinda crappy service.. so I have been using Navigon for those areas and the maps are on the SD card...
Also full bluetooth needed... as my car stereo has bluetooth and a mic behind the steering wheel....
edit: just tried.. and camera doesn't do panoramic.. only 4:3.... don't really care about video.. but want the other... so original question still exists.
Best NON SENSE Rom? Anyone?
I use Inc-Deck its a modified CM7, I think it feels a little less "fat" than cm7.
Bugless is also a stout option, either or.
Edit: To go back a ways OMGB is a solid rom, it was my daily for at least 2 months straight.
Got a link to Inc-Deck? I may be blind but I'm not seeing it in the development section... Mostly I want to get used to stock before a ICS build is ready for primetime...

It's tweaked just enough to make it feel a bit smoother than cm7 and it comes with the stock launcher. Also I'm not too sure about the bluetooth on this, I never use it but I haven't seen anyone complain about it.
Happy Flashing!
Give MIUI a try. I recently switched after using CM for about a year and am really happy with it. I think the ROM is much better than CM, although I hated the iPhone look to the ROM but I just use GO Launcher and go back to what my CM homescreens looked like. There are a few things I miss from CM, but overall really happy with MIUI
I flash a new rom about every day but cm9 has held me for a while so that would be my current daily that i would suggest to give a try to.
Now that bytecode has given us CWM, the question becomes what current ROM or branch of cyanogenmod would give us the biggest jump on getting a working image for our phones?
I think CM9 would be a good candidate. It would probably be the most popular choice to get working. I know I'm itching for ICS on our phone. I think it would make it the best phone on the market for now.
I'm no programmer so I can only say my opinion... I think whatever can be done first to get away from LG / AT&T software. If that's CM7, cool, if it's CM9, cool.
I'd think CM7 is the way to go to jump into a custom ROM that you could get working the fastest for this phone. CM7 has been out for a LONG time and it's been well tweaked and it's SOLID!
BUT... CM9 is what's coming (and for more and more phones/tabs, it's what's already here!).
I say even if it takes more effort now (vs. an older and more stable CM7), go right with CM9 and let's get this party started!

Why not ICS? Maybe it would be easy to port ICS for Galaxy Nexus to Nitro?
I'd say CM7 since by the time you finish getting CM9 figured out and working with the current kernal, it will have already been released by LG.
I'm going to start working on my own custom rom, at least as long as i can figure out how to get my Ubuntu setup... ugg..
Does anyone know any good guides for making your own AOSP ROMS? Or is it all, learned knowledge and experience?

Question to any who know, if we were to put CM9 or any ICS on the Nitro, will it use hardware acceleration? That is the main feature I have been waiting for.

Hardware acceleration for the UI? Or 3D / 2D graphics?
I think I read the other day that you can force the UI to use hardware acceleration in the build.prop file. With CWM feel free to tinker.

unless someone on the CM team gets a nitro, there will be no ICS/CM9 until LG puts out a rom.
We need to just start w/ the basics. Optimize (battery life and performance) what we currently have and go from there.
I find your lack of faith...disturbing
Seriously, I think we can get a pretty damn good rom going if we put some work into it.

CyanogenMod: http://www.cyanogenmod.com/
CM7 is based on Gingerbread and is a very optimized and customizable ROM (OS) for the phone, which is generally close to perfect and has a myriad of features that you don't normally find in regular/stock ROMs.
CM9 is the same basic concept as CM7, except it is based on ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich, Android's latest OS).
ICS: http://www.android.com/about/ice-cream-sandwich/
---------- Post added at 08:27 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:24 AM ----------
In my opinion, our phone is built to support ICS or any iteration of it (clear stated by the 3 softkeys instead of 4 in gingerbread). So I suggest we proceed with either ICS or CM9.
I don't know if it matters, but I think someone should reach out to CM team and inform them of the development. I am sure they will be very interested in developing CM9 for a phone that is clearly intended to be a rival to the Galaxy Nexus.
The main thing to consider is the kernel , ICS runs on 3.xx kernel and gingerbread on 2.6 , porting 2.6 kernel drivers to 3.xx is alot of work. codeaurora kernel is a good start

I think a simple debloated init.d optimized stock ROM should be the starting point. Starting a long project like CM9 will only slow down the adoption rate of the phone because the progress will be slow. I think most people will want to see a couple of ROM choices before they jump aboard.
Once you use CM9 it will automatically start hardware acceleration for smoothness and my upcoming base ROM that i'm including is going to have hardware acceleration and much more, please stay tune.

moved to general - this isn't a development query
I'm going to bet it will be cm9!

I have spent the last few hours searching all over, just like I do every few months, trying to find a stable ICS or Jellybean ROM with everything actually working. Finally decided to just post and ask for some help. I don't care about beats audio or any other stuff people add in, just plain stock is preferable, but I need wifi, 4g, youtube, and all the camera stuff to work. Are there any ICS or JB ROMs out there where everything works the way it should?

There's so much I want to say. But instead, I will say this:
This device is only officially supported through Android 2.3.5 (Gingerbread). Any Android versions past that do not have official drivers, so they would have to be built from scratch, for a device that has been EOL for quite a while. Thus, your statement "where everything works the way it should" doesn't make sense, as the device doesn't officially support running ICS or JB.
That being said, all of the ICS/JB ROMs suffer at the very least the same list of things not working - FFC, 4G, HDMI out, Netflix. Videocam can also be an issue on some. So, based on your criteria, you'll be sticking to Sprint-based Gingerbread Sense ROMs .

Not sure why all the sighing and such but thanks for the info. It's hard to tell because it's not always clear what people base a ROM on and it seems like only about half the people posting ROMs list what doesn't work. I was hoping there might be a cynagenmod 9 or 10 for it at some point but it doesn't seem likely.

To me finished means things work. I mean what makes it finished? Just that you are able to install it on the phone? If that were the case there was a finished version more than a year ago. Obviously cyanogen doesn't think it's finished either otherwise they would make it official.

That's not what makes a CM build official or not. But I'm not going to bore you with facts you can find via Google. And yes, everything that can/should work work. But there are updates to drivers that can make things work better, or tweaks here and there that can be done. Besides the fact that Google releases updates/patches that need to be included.
Since I answered your original question, I will now digress.
Lol how many times a week are people going to ask about ics and jb builds with everything working, or official HTC releases without looking for themselves first before realizing they don't and wont ever exist. Yes they are finished, they boot, make calls, get data, the only things that dont work on em are 4g and FCC. Just unroot your phone and forget about it, you aren't cut out for this business son.

You need to assess just how important some features are to you. If you only have an Evo, and somehow don't have an upgrade on your plan, then you have 2 options.
1: Keep it stock, everything works. No hassle, just poor battery life. Maybe get Superuser and remove the adware/junk if you feel like it.
2: Use a custom ROM which will not have working 4g, FFC, and other features that you won't know they don't work until you go to use them.
Weigh the pros and cons and make a choice, but everyone here so far is correct. The device is EOL and there will most likely never be a working ICS/JB build that has all features working. That would require too much work, for an EOL device.

If you must have all radios and hardware of the EVO 4G fully functional, you should stick with a gingerbread ROM v 2.3.5 or later. MikG 3.11 is a Sense based ROM that is well integrated and fully supports all EVO 4G operations. You can download MikG 3.11 at http://themikmik.com/showthread.php?10338-MikG-v3-11-3-9-2012.
As others have indicated, no ICS or Jellybean ROM supports 4G or the FFC. Sadly the necessary work for the hardware drivers is not likely to happen. If you do not require working 4G or FFC, there are a number of fully functional Android 4.0.4 (ICS) or 4.1.2 (Jellybean) ROMs available. I happen to like HALO Series II Nova http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1903469&page=33 and AlienMOD Solar Flare Series V http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2086163 with the caveat that I am experiencing some tint issues with camera applications in these ROMs.
