TV Connection - Galaxy S 4 Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
i want to connect my phone to a TV in order to watch movies or pictures on a big screen.
How can i do that?
The best way would be using a cable, but does a mhl-cable work on our S4 mini?
If this is not possible what would be better: An Allshare Cast Dongle for about 60 euros or Googles Chromecast for about 30 Euros?
Or is there another, better possibilty?
Thank you

A MHL-cable is useless with S4 mini, not supported.........I am also waiting for a solution to play my movies (and the other content) from my device on to my TV.
Google Chromcast can only play YT and movies from PlayStore, am I right?
What about Allshare Cast Dongle?
Cheers

Has anyone tried the S4 mini with an Allshare Cast WLAN-Hub?

S4 mini seems to work fine with the Samsung Original AllShare Cast WLAN-Hub EAD-T10EDEGSTD and since there is no way to use a MHL cable, this is the way to do it.

You can also use a Miracast connection.
There are some promising "chinese made" dongles:
http://goo.gl/Bt3deY
Couldn't find them anywhere but there are other solutions on ebay.

I bought the Samsung Allshare Cast Dongle but its not working. I can connect my phone to it but after a second the connection is lost.
In Googles Play store is an app called "AllShareCast Dongle S/W Update". But its not available for S4 mini so i can not try it.
The only way for me is to return the Dongle and hope for another solution. Maybe i will try this China stuff from tintol.

The AllShare Cast from Samsung has some problems if you root your phone.
Maybe that's the problem.
There's another user with the same symptoms:

Hi arco,
It is good work but I've found problem with screen mirroring after rooting my phone.
1. I have tried to go to stock ROM and screen mirroring worked fine.
2. I installed only CWM without RootKit2.zip and it worked fine too.
3. Finally I have installed RootKit2.zip and screen mirroring does not work since.
So the problem is probably in GT-I9195_RootKit_v2.zip.
Is it possible to correct it please?
Thx

I really want to solve this before buying a wireless mirroring solution, maybe we could learn something from the "normal" S4. They had the same problem.

I did not root my phone so it has to be another problem. Maybe its a malfunctioning dongle. It gets pretty warm.

Dongle Problem solved
I solved the connection problem
Before Connecting I have to do the following steps and then it works most of the times:
Unplug the Allshare Dongle
Plug in the Dongle
Wait untill its ready
Push the Button
Activate Screen mirroring on the phone.
Wait a few seconds
But the quality is not overwhelming and it lags

Nexus Q and HTC Media link should work. I am not sure if they are exact mirrors like the dongle but it should be.
Nexus Q can't do screen mirroring. The HTC Medialink isn't compatible with the Galaxy S3 due to proprietary software.
You're stuck with the $99 allshare cast dongle. I'd wait though since a lot of screen mirroring solutions are going to be made available and most likely cheap by the end of 2012. The WiFi Alliance is working on something called Miracast which is essentially android screen mirroring.

..different things, all share DLNA ( share movies from PC, phone to TV ) is different to All share cast ( where the phone is replicated on TV )
Need this!
So Im a school teacher and bought a GSIII for this accessory. Why isnt it available and does anyone know when it will be available? Im trying to do research now to see if I can get the HTC one to work with my GSIII, also I have a Nexus7 I would like to figure out how to make that work as well.
due to the overpricing of this thing (it'll be about 110 USD in sweden) I decided to pre-order an Ouya instead as it basically gives me the features I wanted an allshare dongle for but at the same price. But for those $100 I get a standalone tegra 3 device instead, basically a htc one x without a screen. It wont be out until march but the money value here is worth the wait.
Hello, anyone know if it´s possible to emulate the allshare cast dongle with a PC ??
i mean, that piece of hardware must use some software that can be inatalles as a program in a notebook and then the notebook connected to the TV.
Could this be done?

I installed Mirror OP sender and Mirror Op receiver on my notebook and cell phone and then connected the notebook with HDMI to my TV. I have mirror now, but it has too much lag.
If someone make some retroengineering on an all share cast dongle i think we can emulate it, the notebook or pc connected to the tv has to have enough power to copy the software functions of that dongle!! . Soemone must know more about this.

I would be surprised if not nearly any laptop out there got more power than the small dongle device?
In addition I think the lag (most recognizable in games) might come from the wireless transmission maybe?

AllShare Cast

After hours of waiting for answers from Samsung both online and over the phone, nobody in the technical department has any idea what AllShare Cast does or what it is capable of doing (if anything). I have the Samsung Galaxy SIII SPH-L710 from Sprint and a Samsung UN55C7000 LED Smart tv, and a Samsung HTC-C6930 3D bluray player. I can connect all devices via allshare and share videos photos and music but if I try to activate the Allshare Cast via settings menu on the Galaxy SIII it proclaims that no devices are found. In the allshare settings menu on the tv it shows the phone is allow to share screen images however I am unable to get the phone to recognize the tv via allshare cast. Their is very limited information about connecting these devices without the allshare dongle offered by Samsung because it is my understanding with a Samsung smart tv that is capable of allshare then the dongle would be pointless so please any help you can provide to help me mirror the images from my phone to the tv without the allshare dongle or without additional cords/accessories.
Allshare cast is basically a service that mirrors whatever is on your phone to your TV.
I don't think you can use AllShare cast with a smart TV since many people have tried and the TV did not show up. They also didn't even add the AllShare cast menu option until after the dongle was released, so I doubt any compatibility with smart TVs was intended.
Samsung would rather have you pay more and also buy the dongle which is pretty much your only option if you want to mirror the phone to the TV. There are still many other solutions for just sharing movies/pictures to the TV that are free.

You need oneof the newer (newest?) firmwares to have the Allshare Cast function under Settings, More Settings.
The if rooted iu also need Triangle Away (and the you have to "fiddle" a bit to get it working).
But mine was stable last night. It is a bit of a Timing thing (pressing the rest button on the dongle and then turn on allshare cast, etc). Also sometimes yu have to restart the phone.
There is a firmware update in the Samsung app store for the allshare cast dongle, available today. So far, there is a rapid connection established to the unit, stable. Sound issues also are resolved so far. Great update.

[Q] send video to tv

Hi all.
I don't know why this seems to be such a difficult thing to do but I can't seem to get a straight answer.
I have a Galaxy Note 2, my wife has a Sensation XE and we both will soon have Nexus 7 and/or Nexus 10 - possibly. What I want to achieve is a way to send video content including things like netflix from our devices to our TV wirelessly.
I don't want to have seperate receivers etc for each device but I am happy for a software solution if a hardware one is not available.
Thanks
im not sure about netflix and stuff because i don't use it, but when you have any videos theres a button on the top with like a small tv and 3 lines or so all together like a little symbol, your tv provided its a samsung, should be connected on the same wifi as your phone and all you have to do is clack that button and it should work.
As for youtube which is what i sometimes use, i just pair it with the TV and it connects straight away.. really simple
This looks similar to what your after .

I've tried that with an app called 'Skifta' to a laptop running xbmc (for testing purposes) but it only supports local content and a select few stations/channels of which netflix isn't one. My TV is a 6 year old Bush LCD IDTV so no DLNA

Sorry, what I meant was, does allshare cast work with non-samsung phones/tablets (see OP).
I don't have a samsung TV nor can I afford one.
Well, it's a hardware solution, and right now is a lil bit on the pricey side. Gigabyte skyvision ws100.
The advantage, you can use it with whatever devices with hdmi i/o capability. It seems it pretty much works flawlessly and without lag, if I had came across it couple of months before I might have bought one instead a 30m+ HDMI cable than runs from my PC to the TV in the living room. If I had, now I could easily switch between PC (gaming), laptop (movie watching), and now phones (occasional viewing of photos and stuff). And, I could use it to stream av to the projector in our bedroom.... might still consider this Christmas.
Best regards.
The device is called Allshare cast dongle. It works with any TV with HDMI port. Plugs in to the hdmi port and you connects your to galaxy device over "wifi direct" (you dont need a wifi network for this to work). Its not sold in North America (thanks to apple) but is widely available on amazon and ebay for under $100.
Hope this helps.
Cheers

I shall investigate. The problem with cables however is that the devices have different HDMI outputs (if at all) hence wanting wireless solution.

I heard that you have to enable wifi direct on your phone to connect to the dongle, doing so will disconnect my phone from Wi-Fi Home network ... is it Rit?

Difficult to say at this stage, whilst they are similar in concept, the execution is very different. Chromecast doesn't screen mirror, but does stream separately from your device. I have both, and have different uses for both.

I use AllShare Cast on my Galaxy Note 2 and 8 - yes, it does connect via WiFi Direct, but this doesn't mean you are disconnected from your home network. i.e. you can still browse the web, watch Netflix etc whilst screen mirroring via AllShare.

Not anymore, it doesn't.
Google just pushed an OTA that breaks any kind of local streaming capability except the PC Chrome > Cast one.
It's obvious that the Chrome cast was subsidized by big media companies, and they didn't like it when devs like Koush were able to stream straight from phone to TV. This would make piracy easier.
This is absolutely ret... dumb. The biggest reason I bought Chromcast was to stream my photos and videos. My CC has been sitting behind my TV collecting dust since the day I got. I tried out Allcast, it was great. Then this came along... I'm considering returning my CC.

[Q] Galaxy S4 Mini (GT-I9195) and SCREEN MIRROIRNG with TV 3D Samsung UE40F6800SD

Hi to all,
i've this problem:
I tried to connect my Galaxy S4 mini to my Smart TV (Samsung UE40F6800SD), but when the two devices connect, after about 7-8 seconds automatically disconnect yourself (the image of the phone is never projected on the TV) . This happened while with firmware XXUAMF6. Yesterday I tried to update both the phone (with firmware XXUAMG8) that the TV (firmware 1110), but when I launched the screen mirroring the two devices were no longer visible.
Have you any idea what could be the problem?
Thank you very much.

Hi,
before to scan with youre phone, have you select on your TV ->source -> screen mirroring ?
1. set TV to "screen mirroring" (push "source" on remote)
2. enable phone menu "screen mirroring" then it should seek for tv and then allow devices to connect with each other.
PS! On my Samsung F6670 smart-tv the function didn't worked anymore after rooting (it did found the tv but disconnected immediately after showing succesful connection) though it worked fine before rooting.

Sorry, my TV is UE40F6800SD
I think the screen mirroring is done through miracast (Samsung calls it AllShare Cast) and apparently it doesn't work with "some" rooted phones:
http://goo.gl/XahGnC
As for tv support, I couldn't find the ES6800 in the miracast ready devices.
http://www.wi-fi.org/wi-fi-certified-miracast™
The information is pretty scarce but I found this:
http://goo.gl/cvzcVp
"All Share": offers mirror modes between the TV, mobile phones and tablets.
Like in Philips TVs, Miracast Wi-Fi will be present in almost all Samsung's new models (from series 5 upwards)...
