Samsung allshare cast dongle - One (M7) Accessories

I have htc media link hd but GE based roms don't run this device. I gone to samsung centre, tried allshere cast dongle and ok..... GE 4.3 Setting > screen > wireless display. I bought one and happy. (1080p is ok)
Sorry my English.

but before conection reset device everytime

I'm not familiar with this device, but doesn't the Google Chromecast have more potential?

I have a samsung galaxy s4 and am planning to buy the allshare wifi dongle/cast, but i have a doubt after reading reviews in the Amazon on this product. Can you/any one please confirm this: I have a home WiFi network, and I am planning to Browse internet, watch youtube on my phone after connecting to all share dongle. will it possible to do it? I heard that you have to enable wifi direct on your phone to connect to the dongle, doing so will disconnect my phone from Wi-Fi Home network ... is it Rit?

Difficult to say at this stage, whilst they are similar in concept, the execution is very different. Chromecast doesn't screen mirror, but does stream separately from your device. I have both, and have different uses for both.

I use AllShare Cast on my Galaxy Note 2 and 8 - yes, it does connect via WiFi Direct, but this doesn't mean you are disconnected from your home network. i.e. you can still browse the web, watch Netflix etc whilst screen mirroring via AllShare.

Dave

thanks dave. Another thing here... buying allshare will limit the usage to only Samsung devices... any other device which can accept any android 4.0+ devices and mirror the screen on HD TV ???

It does appear as a Miracast device to my Nexus 4, which detects, connects, and mirrors.
My HTC One detects it and I've had it connect and mirror for a few seconds, but haven't been able to connect again.

Not anymore, it doesn't.
Google just pushed an OTA that breaks any kind of local streaming capability except the PC Chrome > Cast one.
It's obvious that the Chrome cast was subsidized by big media companies, and they didn't like it when devs like Koush were able to stream straight from phone to TV. This would make piracy easier.
This is absolutely ret... dumb. The biggest reason I bought Chromcast was to stream my photos and videos. My CC has been sitting behind my TV collecting dust since the day I got. I tried out Allcast, it was great. Then this came along... I'm considering returning my CC.

Hello, anyone know if it´s possible to emulate the allshare cast dongle with a PC ??
i mean, that piece of hardware must use some software that can be inatalles as a program in a notebook and then the notebook connected to the TV.
Could this be done?

Allshare cast using default video player

Hi guys,
Im using the default video player for my vids. There are some videos(Taken on iPhone 4S) which i have stored in my SGS3. They play fine on the device but when i try to stream them to my TV using all share cast i get an error message on my TV(Samsung) saying Codec not available.
Anyone know of all apps I can use to share videos on my TV?
Thanks
I didn't think the AllShare Cast was not available yet.
Ive got a samsung UA46D5000 Led smart Tv. Its got a built in wifi so i don't need the all share dongle. I can stream it directly from my SGS3 to the TV.

It’s my understanding that Allshare Cast is not available yet. When it is available there’ll be another option under Settings/Wireless and networks/More settings.
If you want to stream video to your TV then use Settings/Wireless and networks/Nearby devices, this turns the S3 into a DLNA server allowing you to share your media files with your Smart TV.

Hi,
I can stream just fine. The issue is that some formats dont play on the tv. It just says codec not found whereas they play fine on the device itself. Shouldnt it be able to stream any format that can be played on the device?

It depends on the TV, the TV needs to have the appropriate codec to play it. They’ve got better over time and my D7000 plays more or less any format I throw at it. I can only assume that your D5000 doesn’t have the required codec. The only alternative would be to transcode the video into one that is supported by your TV.

First of all streaming videos to your tv via dlna has nothing to do with all share cast, which means your device's screen will be entirely mirrored on your dlna capable tv (not necessarily samsung), using a certified dongle.
Second, the error message you get is due to the fact that your tv does not have the appropriate codec to play your file (the tv's media player is used for the playback). The exact same error message you will get if you try to play the same file with your tv via a usb flash drive or external hdd using the tv's buit in media player.

Thanks for the info. But what is weird is that the videos shot by
s3 are also giving this error. Shouldn't Samsung devices be compatible with each other that way?

The irony is that if Allshare Cast were available now, codec compatibility wouldn’t be a problem, the latest Samsung SmartTV's will just mirror anything the S3 can display without a dongle, and the same with the dongle but the TV only needs an HDMI port, it doesn’t need to be DLNA capable.

It would be a bit much to expect a TV made some years ago to be fully compatible with devices made today. Video compression and new codecs are being developed and improved all the time. Having said that it may be worth checking the Samsung support site to make sure you have the latest firmware for your TV.

I must admit, your post frightened me a bit and the first thing I did was to make a short 1080p movie with my SGSIII and stream it to my Samsung LE32C650 tv. Well now I'm ok, since it worked just fine, so you definitely must check to see if you have the latest firmware for your tv. The easiest way to do that is directly from your tv's menu, under Support - Software Upgrade - By Online. Hope this helps.
Thanks for all the info guys.
Well, I just got prompted to update for the dongle software so why don't you give it a try to see if it works with the smart tv, without the actual dongle. I will order the dongle next week, as it sounds much better than the wired microusb to hdmi adapter.

I tried to send a video I recorded on my S3 to my Samsung UE40D6575 LED Smart-TV. It came up on the tv-screen if I wanted to play the material from I9300, though I was stupid enough to press cancel because my kida wanted to watch television. Now I can't seem to get this to function again. I have deleted the I9300 from the tvs "NO"-list (???), so that shouldn't be a problem.
Does anyone know what I mean, and what can I do about it (if anything)?
Thanks for answering!
I guess restart both the tv and the sgs3
Or go to your wifi and press Forget so it forgets the network and then reconnect.
Both the tv and phone have been restarted several times with no luck
Try reseting your TV.

Is there any info about what Samsung consider 'latest SmartTV'?
Will C series be able to accept Allshare Cast?
Currently on my UE46C8000 I have (under Allshare setup menu) options for 'ScreenShare' (where TV auto-recognized and allowed my 'GT-I9300'. But is ScreenShare same as AllshareCast?
Also, is AllshareCast app already available for S3 (but just not working), or it will be available later on? Since I cant find it on phone, nor on any app store.

I haven’t found any official info on which TV’s will be supported. So this is pure speculation but I’m guessing that it will support the same TV’s that Samsung Smart View on Play supports, which still isn’t available for the S3 yet.
[Supported Models]
- Samsung Smart TV released in 2011: Models greater or equal to LED 7000, PDP 8000
- Samsung Smart TV released in 2012: Models greater or equal to LED ES7500,(Models greater or equal to LED ES7000 in Europe, Models greater or equal to PDP E8000 Models(E7000 Models in North America)

Nexus Q and HTC Media link should work. I am not sure if they are exact mirrors like the dongle but it should be.
Nexus Q can't do screen mirroring. The HTC Medialink isn't compatible with the Galaxy S3 due to proprietary software.
You're stuck with the $99 allshare cast dongle. I'd wait though since a lot of screen mirroring solutions are going to be made available and most likely cheap by the end of 2012. The WiFi Alliance is working on something called Miracast which is essentially android screen mirroring.

..different things, all share DLNA ( share movies from PC, phone to TV ) is different to All share cast ( where the phone is replicated on TV )
Need this!
So Im a school teacher and bought a GSIII for this accessory. Why isnt it available and does anyone know when it will be available? Im trying to do research now to see if I can get the HTC one to work with my GSIII, also I have a Nexus7 I would like to figure out how to make that work as well.
due to the overpricing of this thing (it'll be about 110 USD in sweden) I decided to pre-order an Ouya instead as it basically gives me the features I wanted an allshare dongle for but at the same price. But for those $100 I get a standalone tegra 3 device instead, basically a htc one x without a screen. It wont be out until march but the money value here is worth the wait.

I installed Mirror OP sender and Mirror Op receiver on my notebook and cell phone and then connected the notebook with HDMI to my TV. I have mirror now, but it has too much lag.
If someone make some retroengineering on an all share cast dongle i think we can emulate it, the notebook or pc connected to the tv has to have enough power to copy the software functions of that dongle!! . Soemone must know more about this.

I would be surprised if not nearly any laptop out there got more power than the small dongle device?
In addition I think the lag (most recognizable in games) might come from the wireless transmission maybe?

[Q] send video to tv

Hi all.
I don't know why this seems to be such a difficult thing to do but I can't seem to get a straight answer.
I have a Galaxy Note 2, my wife has a Sensation XE and we both will soon have Nexus 7 and/or Nexus 10 - possibly. What I want to achieve is a way to send video content including things like netflix from our devices to our TV wirelessly.
I don't want to have seperate receivers etc for each device but I am happy for a software solution if a hardware one is not available.
Thanks
im not sure about netflix and stuff because i don't use it, but when you have any videos theres a button on the top with like a small tv and 3 lines or so all together like a little symbol, your tv provided its a samsung, should be connected on the same wifi as your phone and all you have to do is clack that button and it should work.
As for youtube which is what i sometimes use, i just pair it with the TV and it connects straight away.. really simple

Sorry, what I meant was, does allshare cast work with non-samsung phones/tablets (see OP).
I don't have a samsung TV nor can I afford one.
Well, it's a hardware solution, and right now is a lil bit on the pricey side. Gigabyte skyvision ws100.
The advantage, you can use it with whatever devices with hdmi i/o capability. It seems it pretty much works flawlessly and without lag, if I had came across it couple of months before I might have bought one instead a 30m+ HDMI cable than runs from my PC to the TV in the living room. If I had, now I could easily switch between PC (gaming), laptop (movie watching), and now phones (occasional viewing of photos and stuff). And, I could use it to stream av to the projector in our bedroom.... might still consider this Christmas.
Best regards.
The device is called Allshare cast dongle. It works with any TV with HDMI port. Plugs in to the hdmi port and you connects your to galaxy device over "wifi direct" (you dont need a wifi network for this to work). Its not sold in North America (thanks to apple) but is widely available on amazon and ebay for under $100.
Hope this helps.

I shall investigate. The problem with cables however is that the devices have different HDMI outputs (if at all) hence wanting wireless solution.

AllshareCast Dongle S/W update today

I got a notice to download the "AllshareCast Dongle S/W Update" to version LJ02 today. I don't have an AllshareCast dongle and I didn't even know that this app was installed on my phone. I'm wondering why they've pushed it out to everybody (I assume), since I imagine that only a tiny number of people have the app. Seems like it would make sense to install it only for people who actually have the dongle.
I'm thinking about uninstalling or freezing it. Has anybody else received it? Any thoughts?
I received the update last night around 130 am eastern........ Had no clue what it was. I am going to delete in a few minutes

Are you on LH9? It seems to only work on LH9 and LI5.
It's not an ATT GS3, so it's not got that firmware on it, but is the latest stock for my region, as far as I know (UK).
I was hoping the APK alone might still work, as it appears to be updating the Allcast dongle itself, rather than being tied to anything on the phone, hardware-wise.
Perhaps Samsung are rolling it out to a select few 'test' firmwares first? I believe I'm on LJ4, but I'm not up on Samsung's firmware terminology - not needed to really stray from rooted stock on this phone.
If you're able to extract the APK, it would be much appreciated

I was hoping the APK alone might still work, as it appears to be updating the Allcast dongle itself, rather than being tied to anything on the phone, hardware-wise.
Perhaps Samsung are rolling it out to a select few 'test' firmwares first? I believe I'm on LJ4, but I'm not up on Samsung's firmware terminology - not needed to really stray from rooted stock on this phone.
If you're able to extract the APK, it would be much appreciated

This is a legitimate Samsung update and it is a part of the function that allows you to share the screen with Dlna enabled devices such as blue ray players, wdtv (and other streaming boxes) and hdtv with the function.

Are you sure about that? What you're describing sounds like "AllShare Play" which is a completely different app. Where did you get your information that this app has some connection to DLNA?
I have been using the all share dongle. It is just as described as above. I mirror my phone thru the dongle to and TV with a HDMI port. Or Samsung devices. Play videos games whatever. All share play let's you remote control devices from your phone. All share dongle does work thru some type of dlna service from what I read on Samsung site and other places.
I was using this feature before the update was put out. It now shows up as a installed app. Before the update it was just something you could turn on in settings and still is.
It's the pre configured scan portion for the $90 wifi dongle that you buy to connect to hdmi port on projectors and hdtv displays and or the software for your computer that allows you to share via wifi or Internet.
I bought the MHL connection and carry a cable so when I am in hotels I watch what I want (netflix, Hulu) while the phone charges.
But the address of the developer is legit.

I'm sure that the update is legit. I just want to avoid confusion and misinformation about what it's for:
The Allshare Cast Dongle app supports the Allshare Cast Dongle
The Allshare Play app provides DLNA connectivity to DLNA-capable devices
I believe that the Allshare Cast Dongle does not use DLNA and that this update has no relationship to the Allshare Play app or to DLNA capability. If anybody has good evidence to the contrary, please post it.
That being said, my guess is that this new update being pushed out is useless to the great majority of us who don't have the dongle.
I'm pretty sure All Share Cast is Samsung's version of Miracast.

That's exactly what it is, I don't think the dongle uses DLNA at all.
I've found that this update has been changed to be compatible with my phone (stock UK GS3) over the last few days. It originally was shown as not compatible.
It basically prompts you to update your Allshare Cast dongle firmware when you next connect to it. It updates the dongle firmware - wirelessly - to version LJ02, which appears to have made the dongle connection much more stable, and quicker to establish.
OK, so I installed the update, then uninstalled it when I saw that it was useless for me. Now, I am getting a perpetual update notice in Google Play. Does anybody know a way to make the update notice go away without actually installing the app? The only way I can think of is to install it and then freeze it, but that seems like a waste.

Why do you believe that the email address is legit? If you go to the "Samsung Mobile Print" app in google playstore the developers email is mprint.sec@samsung.com

I just had a quick back and forth with Samsung. It is Not a official app. All official app can be found at www.Samsungapps.com.
Edit: seems that Samsung isn't sure it is or not.... They talked with someone else who says that it is valid. XDA has it marked as bloatware that can be removed.
Edit2: Lookout Security says they've been asked about it before and "We have encountered this in the past and Samsung has stated that this is their app via our contact." I'm requesting it be confirmed.
Edit3: A second person at Samsung support says it's not official and a 3P app.
It CAN be un installed with TI. First detach it from the market and then uninstall. It's actual name is com.sec.fwupgrade so don't be alarmed when it says that. I will be sending it to a couple of security vendors to include in malware lists and questioned Samsung why they have not had the app removed.

Screen mirror through usb to laptop

Question is since apparently i can not use sidesync to mirror my screen to my laptop any longer through usb or samsung focus or the windows phone app cause it only allows when connected to the same wifi. Does anyone know of a way to mirror to laptop through my usb. Also the laptop is a samsung 7 spin. This is the kind of crap that really pisses me off about samsung too they always mess with a good thing and it feels like they are scaling back on all the cool stuff that made them great before. Starting to act like freaking iphone.
What about Samsung DEX? Did you try it?

If you are able too (or know how) you can setup a personal hotspot and connect the phone to your personal hotspot. I used to do this in school with my notebook, was a great way to keep an eye for important phone calls or messages while taking notes on html code or visual basic homework.
Otherwise for USB connections you can use Samsung dex for windows. While not exactly like screen mirroring (there are some very minor trivial differences) you still are able to interact with (and use) your phone and apps.

Samsung DEX IS the mirroring option you are loooking for. Or, I don't understand what YOU mean by mirroring.
What DEX does: after installing DEX for windows, connect your phone to the laptop/pc by means of a GOOD usb cable. In a few seconds you'll see on the screen of your computer part of the apps you have on your phone's Homescreen. Then you can use your laptop keyboard and mouse to work on your phone. It is true, that not all apps are compatible with DEX, part of them may work on full screen only and part of them only on a smaller window.
As I understand, you are looking for full mirroring which DEX doesn't provide. I think, but I'm not sure about this, you need an usb c to hdmi adaptor/cable in order to have your phone mirrored.

There is only one problem with the cable/adaptor: laptops usually do not have an hdmi input port.

Ill look into buying this or similar and trying it out. Just that when im out in the middle of nowhere where my mom lives and of course no wifi and im trying to watch my streaming services from my phone to my moms tv i cant because cant smart view without internet. And so when i use up my hotspot data i used to connect to my laptop with sidesync then my laptop to my moms tv and be able to use my streaming services. Yes dex is o.k. but if i try watching dishanywhere wont work actually most streaming services dont work.

This is indeed the mirroring mode the original poster was looking for. I tried it and it works, but I don't see any advantage on using it. There is a 0.5 sec delay between acting on the Note 10+ and seeing the result on the big screen. Also, I tried switching my laptop's screen to portrait mode and then mirroring, hoping I will be able to get a bigger mirrored image, but I didn't.
What do you use for the screen mirroring? Watching movies?
