My Kindle Fire is rooted and I just installed Nova Launcher. I installed it as a system app so I could use it as default. So far it seems to be working okay except I can't change the wallpaper. No matter what I've tried it just stays black. Also, the status bar has just disappeared. It keeps showing up and then disappearing. How do I fix this?
Try my wallpaper fix in my SIG. On a weird note the status bar disapearing is something that some people have happen after they run my fix, usually a reboot will suffice.

I'll try the fix, thanks. And the status bar came back by itself so idk what's up.

Didn't work and the status bar won't come back. Rebooted twice.
Try setting a default wallpaper that came with nova, and give it a few seconds. The latest version of my fix hasn't had too many issues so any info on what going on will help or if you noticed any errors on the fix while it was running.

Try getting KF First Aide and use "Fix Broken Installation" for the status bar. (Assuming it's for the Kindle Fire 2.) I don't know if it will work for you or not, but it worked for me.

Landscape works everywhere except the home screen. [that's AOSP]. You can install a custom launcher like Apex, Nova, Go etc. and landscape would work on the homescreen too.
I've been using Jandycane and so far batt life has been good.
One thing I can suggest is NOT using animated wallpapers. They look awesome, but really task the CPU, which drains the battery.

I dont think hash and lithium have added cpu control yet, but twa's CM10 port has it and its a great rom so far, no bugs that i have found yet
even google now works
Jandycane has better battery? Any other advantages over hashcode's rom?

Hey there! I have rooted my Kindle Fire and am using CM10 ROM (if I remember correct) and I love it. My only issue is that I haven't used it for a few days, then today I rebooted it because it was running kinda slow, and when it came back online, my bottom navigation buttons (home, menu, and back) were missing. Any idea what settings could have accidentally gotten changed to make that happen? I went through all the settings and I couldn't find anything that would fix it. I'm running Holo Launcher HD, but I have been running that all along and never had this problem before.
I REALLY don't want to have to wipe and reload the ROM and reset everything if I don't have to, so I'm wondering if anyone here has any ideas what could cause that. Thanks in advance for any help!
Which rom are you using? Cm10 is not enough description.

Where can I find that info? I'm on Android version 4.1.2, Kernel version 3.0.31+, AOKP version aokp_otter_unofficial_Oct-17-12. If any of that helps.
If I go into ROM Control, I can't find anything in there to give me ROM info though. I can tell you the stock boot animation is pink and purple gears turning with a pink unicorn in the middle and it says "Initiating Swagger" at the bottom LOL! Let me know where to find whatever other info you may need to help, thanks.
Also, I can boot into TWRP (v2.2.2.1) and go into the INSTALL tab and see the 3 things that I've loaded (jb-aokp_otter_unofficial_Oct-17-12.zip, market-framework.zip, and gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip).
I run cm10 twa_priv sgt7 linaro. I have an ability to hide the status bar. I am not sure that aokp has this. When you press the power button to bring up the menu, see if "unhide status bar" is an option.

I know you don't want to but if you just go into recovery and ONLY wipe cache and dalvik, reflash the ROM it probably would clear up the issue w/o losing all your data/apps.

I kinda figured it would come to that, but thought I'd ask if anyone had any other ideas. So I'll try that tonight. Thanks for the reply.

In your system apps is there one for the status bar? (An app called status bar or something similar) I thought I remembered seeing that in some JB ROMs and maybe you could force close? Maybe clear data or cache of the app if it exists.....its worth a look if it can save you some headache but I wish I could tell you for sure

Ive tried to install a different boot animation and installed and different rom but nothing has worked.
If you are running cm10.1 that is a known bug that you can't do anything about.
You really need to be more clear in what your problem is, and what you want to know.

Today I upgraded my 1st gen Kindle Fire from Cyanogenmod 7.x to 10.1 and I have the same problem. I tried enabling auto rotate both through the Trebuchet settings and with Switchpro widget, but it just does not work.
Watching a video through mxplayer does change the orientation, though.
Best,
Maarten

Small question for recent ROMs (CM10.1 and Stock AOSP 4.3): Both ROMs had been installed and run without problem, but the 1st boot logo (CM logo for CM 10.1 ROM 4.2.2 and Android logo for the stock 4.3) was stretched out of my Fire screen for about 5 seconds, than later fit the screen before loaded. I tried to search on forum but no one match my concern. Do you face similar thing? It's not affect the Fire performance but it look weird for a few seconds
