My Salutations, I am asking a question in regards to a serious bootloop I have managed to pull myself into.
Most bootloops I usually just enter CWM and flash another rom or restore. This problem however is much more serious.
Every time I attempt to enter CWM it goes directly to download mode. It's as if CWM doesn't exist on my phone anymore or something.
Download mode is the only thing I can access. I have tried multiple attempts to enter any other recovery mode but they all end up getting me to download mode.
This isn't the only problem. I thought this wouldn't be a big deal until I realized my PC can't recognize my phone at all anymore. Even before I got into the bootloop, my phone would only charge but any other recognition from the PC was absent. I have all the correct drivers installed including numerous attempts at re-installing, re-configuring, and restarting my PC.
I think I may have reached an irrecoverable error.
Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks.
FYI, The ROM I flashed when my Phone started acting like a bundle of ninnyhammerness was AOKP milestone 6. It's not the ROMs fault of course, seeing as how this ROM is very good. I also had the Darkside kernel. This is when I couldn't manually enter CWM. In stead, I had to let the phone boot up and utilizing the power menu, restart in recovery mode. I thought this was strange at first. I then wiped, and decided to flash the 20th Nightly of AOKP Jellybean just to try it. It booted fine, but then when I had to restart to enter CWM again I chose to flash another Darkside kernel. After this, my phone went into a bootloop. That is where everything else fell apart.
Sounds like either the recovery isn't sitting in the system correctly or its gone. When your phone is in download mode you said that you can't connect to pc. Are you running odin as admin and/or connecting the device to pc previous to putting the battery back?
sent from my T989 full of CM awesomeness and a touch of Venom from the Darkside!!
Yes I did run Odin as an administrator. I also tried connecting the device prior to putting the battery in, and also after.
I had this sort of problem yesterday (I installed a port of CWMR and it had some bugs which lead to it formatting the disk and then freezing and a reboot wouldn't allow me to install a rom...) anyways
1) Go to http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SGH-T989ZKBTMB? and download the drivers for the phone. This will allow windows to recognize the phone, without the phone having to communicate to the computer.
2) Download Odin v 1.85 (that's what I used anyways)
3) Follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1481141 It'll give you a workable CWMR to allow a format and installation of a rom to stop the boot loop
Those three steps should solve the problem, it did for me at least.
Hope that helps!

Thanks but, it still hasn't worked. It keep saying "USB device not recognized, Device driver software was not successfully installed."
I was able to fix it. If anyone else encounters this lethal, and pretentious conflict again... I resolved the problem by repeatedly spamming the power button on my computer, unplugging the cable repeatedly and letting my phone sit without the battery inside of it for 24 hours until my PC finally recognized the device.

also it may be because of a faulty data cable !
Dear friends,
I have a bricked t989. Screen wont start. I thin the phone ran out of space when I was trying to flash a ROM (silly me).
Here is what happens when I connect the phone to:
Windows7/XP laptop:
It start asking me to format the USB drive. Phone is not detected in Samsung Kies. It shows as a USB device ni system tray. IN computer management, a lots of drives appear and all seem to be healthy. The icons disappear when I hold the power button and come back when I press power button again. So it tells me the on and off is occuring, but nothing occurs on screen.
Linux PC:
I can see all the drives with all the contents. Including all my files, apps, system folders, etc. I see folders like image lib etc. And its writable too.
IS there any way I can flash a stock rom or something by copying some files to these folders or anyway I can use what I can see in Linux to put life back into my phone?
Many thanks for reading.
Have you tried getting into download mode and flashing a stock rom with Odin?

If u can see everything like that then ur not bricked, u need to put he phone in download mode by turning it off and holding vol-vol+ and connecting to PC, a screen should show and give u option to continue or cancel, press continue, now connect to windows via Odin, Samsung kies will not see the phone because u have a custom recovery, make sure kies isn't running/uninstall it if u can, open Odin v1.85 and wait till it says added, from there flash twrp v2.6.1.0 tar.file from here techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/hercules load the file via PDA option and press start in Odin, do not touch anything else besides PDA to load the file and start to initiate the flash, when its done and u get a green passed sign, DL ur fav ROM to ur PC, boot to recovery on the phone and select advanced/mount USB, transfer the file, flash the ROM (and gapps if needed) and reboot, phone should recover fine..

I have this same problem, but can't get mine to work.
While back, I flash and play around with lots of roms. One day my t989 went dead, after flashing, can't remember the detail. Anyway, so now, when I plug in the usb cable, the computer dings and a message pops up saying I need to format the disk drive before I can use it. Options are "Format disk" or "Cancel". I can't format, it keeps saying to check the disk and make sure it is connected properly and try again. Only option is Cancel. Odin can't see it either. Kies can't see it. Also, Kies is uninstalled and PC is rebooted. Still no luck.
What else can I try?

First of all u never never format a phone from a PC like that, the device has certain partitions that hold crucial info such as imei, sys data, recovery info, and formating wipes all of that so that's a no no, second if by chance u flashed the wrong ROM or a wrong anything bad things happen, the fact that it even asks u to format the disk tells me something is wrong, try holding vol-vol+ while connecting phone to PC when the phone is off, if its recoverable it will enter download mode, if that doesn't work u can try a USB jig, which will force the device into DL mode and at most there a couple dollars on eBay or amazon, so its worth it to fix the phone, if neither of those options work then congrats man u have officially hard bricked ur device, frame it an mount it on the wall lol

Again....excuse if i'm posting on the wrong place cause i'm really newbie on this forum things......
My problem is that while tring to reinstall my 4.3 droid i went to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2498233 and tried using these files to get another rom, so as it mentioned i started flashing the boot loader but via odin i coudn't as odin negated to proceed due to errors. Them i triede odin multiloader them i tried TWRP them i ended up messing everythin tring via Clock work mod recovery. I just got the process well done and them when the system tries to boot it just won't boot. The eternal black screen looks like i have to a Hard Brick and even if while i try the usb cable the computer responds to the device, i couldn't take it to Download Mode.
After some research i have see that it's possible to make a debrick via SD card.
So.....i'm exactly........cring for help, any good soul that have a litle time to explain me a couple things if i can or i cannot debrick it without spending money. IS my time is running cause i got my SIM card cut and this is my only phone now.

Remember Mobiletechvideos.com can fix it in less than 25 minutes depending on your phone :laugh:and they are affordable :good:
Your pretty much stuck if you can't recover via SD card.
Remember there are a lot of options for JTAG repair, research local repairs by Kijiiji and also places like Mobile Tech Videos. Always search for legitimacy and best price.

Can’t access to Download Mode or Recovery Mode after bricking AT&T Galaxy S3 i744 4.3

Because the phone is in another country I couldn’t update it by OTA to android 4.3
So I started to read forums that said how to Update AT&T S3 i747 to android 4.3 (I747UCUEMJB)
The S3 was not Root
I installed all the phone drivers in the computer
This is what I did: (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52341582&postcount=38)
- Use Odin 3.07
- Check Auto Reboot and Re-Partition, and uncheck all the boxes
- I put my phone in USB debugging in the developer options
- I turned it off
- Started to put the phone on Download Mode pressing volume DW+home+power button at the same time
- In Odin on the PDA box I checked and loaded the file .tar.md5 (I747UCUEMJB_2024954_REV04_user_low_ship.tar.md5 )
- Pressed the button Start
The installation seemed to go right, the program never showed anything weird.
When the Programs finished the installation the phone turned off and then turned on and show the logo of android (seemed to be lying down or inclined) and after that it turned off.
The computer showed that something was connected (QHSUSB_DLOAD) but couldn’t install any driver, so I disconnected it of the computer.
I couldn’t turn on the phone :crying:, I took the battery out and put it in and tried to start the phone and nothing happened, I tried pressing any button to access to recovery o download mode and none of this worked.
I started to search forums that talk about restart or turn on a brick AT&T S3 i747
I found one (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2549068) that said to download a image (debrick-SGH-I747U-CUEMJB3.img) and using the program “Win32DiskImager” to put the image inside of a micro SD to make the phone turn on,
I put the micro SD inside the phone and when I pushed the power button for almost 3 seconds it Turned on , the phone seems to be fine an it has android 4.3 (I747UCUEMJB) installed.
I can use it normally so far.
But the problem is that I can’t turn on the phone if the micro SD card is not inserted on the phone.
Without the micro SD inside don’t show any sign of life
When the micro SD is inside I can turn on the phone and use its apps.
I have tried to enter to Recovery mode or Download mode with the micro SD inside but the phone only show what its supposed to happen for 1 second then turns off and then turns on by its own (after that I can use it normally)
Does anyone know how can I Fix my phone ?
How can I boot my phone without using the micro SD card?
How can I access to download mode?
And if I could access to download mode what should I do next ?
The only files I have now are:
Odin3 v3.07
I747UCUEMJB_2024954_REV04_user_low_ship.tar.md5(905 Mb)
debrick-SGH-I747U-CUEMJB3.img (80 Mb)

It's been a while sorry about beinging away.
A guy who says that have a JTAG service tried and coudn't recover it. So I left it there because it have a broken display and a broken firmware and it' is from outside Brazil and after the FIFA CUP Anatel will lock operation of devices that models are not sold on Brazil and I747 is probably included on the list.
So i gave up from my phone and bought a Nexus 5.
The case is closed!

Here's what you can do to get the device back to working and booting normally. If the Odin flash failed first time, you should not use this flash again. Instead you should use custom recovery to flash a complete 4.3 stock restore image.
1) Download the stock restore image from the following thread. I always prefer to use TWRP and thus, the TWRP image, because of the easier user interface.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2658486
Save the file to a location on your computer.
2) Download the Odin flashable TWRP Tar file for custom recovery from the link below ....

With the debrick card in your phone, boot to system as you have been doing. Connect your phone to your computer with a good quality micro USB cable and copy the stock restore image you downloaded earlier to your phone. Be sure you remember the stored location.
3) Power off your phone and, with the debrick card, boot to download mode. If you cannot use the Volume Down, Power and Home button combo to boot to download mode, you may need to get a USB jig.
4) Once you are in download mode, connect your phone to the PC, open Odin v3.07. Make sure Odin recognizes your phone. Do not check or uncheck any boxes but leave the defaults as is. In the PDA box, load the TWRP Tar file you downloaded earlier. Click on Start and wait for flashing to complete. When you get to Pass, disconnect your phone from the PC and pull out the battery to stop it trying to reboot.
5) Replace the battery and with the debrick card inside, boot to Recovery mode by pressing the Volume Up, Power and Home buttons. If you do this right, you should be able to get to recovery mode.
6) Select Install and navigate to the stock restore zip file you saved to your phone earlier. Select this zip and swipe to confirm install. Wait for firmware installation (flashing) to complete.
7) Clear your cache/dalvikand reboot to system.
Try booting without the card. If the above process went as described, your phone should be booting normally. Good luck!

Okay. At least, we are almost there. Try booting into recovery mode and doing a hard wipe/reset. If this doesn't work, then you could try reinstalling the 4.3 stock firmware. You may need to reflash custom recovery as the initial flashing would have returned you to stock recovery. If you have to do the firmware flashing again, please make sure you clear your cache/dalvik before rebooting to system.
happy to see this thread resolved, this is what XDA is all about, no matter how fd up something sounds, a community like xda will find a fix for it even if it takes months
And the award of the Q/A thread goes to Larry and everyone in this post for trying and failing but succeeding at the end
anywayz happy rooting and be careful, no-one wants to end with a brick cheers and keep this place awsome

Did you try getting into download mode with the 3-button combo (Volume Down/Power/Home)?
Hi,
Summary: Was running Cyanogenmod 10.2.0 and tried to update to 10.2.1. Phone won't boot. Using CWM recovery 6.0.4.3. Factory Reset reports that it can't mount / clear /data (due to encryption?). Can get phone into CWM recovery and Download mode. Haven't been able to successfully connect to PC (ADB or Odin) even though I have samsung drivers.
I do have an unencrypted SD card in the phone so my normal way of flashing is to connect SD card to PC, download, then in CWM recovery to install ZIP from SD card.
Looking to get into any good state - Cyanogenmod 10.2.1, or 10.2.0, or heck go back to stock.
**** I think the answer might be use ODIN and flash back to stock, I see some guides but haven't been able to get ODIN to "see" my phone *****
Details
I had downloaded Cyanogenmod update to phone using "About this phone" menu and when I tried to "Install it" from that window the machine booted into recovery, immediately failed, and rebooted. The phone is encrypted (work requires this) and I discovered Cyanogenmod saves the download to encrypted phone storage and CWM recovery doesn't support encryption.
Downloaded 10.2.1 to my SD card and flashed it. (no back-up, no wiping of cache). Installed successfully, reboot asked me for my encryption password, Android optimized apps, rebooted, encryption password, then blue spinner spins forever.
From here I started my troubleshooting:
- I flashed back to 10.2.0 then flashed Gapps again, no change.
- Reading about boot.img I installed ADB and SDK Manager and tried connecting and flashing boot.img. ADB devices shows up empty. I have installed Samsung drivers.
- Researching going back to Stock points me to installed Triangle to reset my custom ROM count - but I can't boot.
Thanks in advance.
Matt
[Solved] This is for anyone who happens to read this wondering if their phone is screwed. Relax! If you can get into Download mode and Odin can see your phone, you'll be o.k.
Turns out the machine and cable you use do matter. I tried for days connecting using my MAC running Windows 7 Virtual Machine. Once I switched to my Win7 laptop and used the original Samsung cable things starting working out more smoothly.
Steps:
1) Get Odin (mine was 3.09) and run as admin. If you see an error in Korean it's because you have to unzip the entire Odin folder.
2) Get stock firmware for t-mobile. There's only 1 firmware file, I didn't need a PIT nor a specific recovery step. The t-mobile firmware includes everything I needed. Flashing failed in Odin saying Complete Write failure. This had me stumped for hours and hours. When I switched to stock cable and Win7 laptop it succeeded. I never had to check Nand erase all or repartitian (almost did in desparation though). Flash took about 10 minutes but eventually PASSED.
3) However, when it rebooted it asked for encryption key and my old one didn't work. Turns out their are more steps. This scared me.
4) Reboot into recovery (up, home, power) which gave a bunch of scary error messages. Actually those listed at the bottom in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1840030.
5) Factory Reset then Wipe Cache
6) Reboot
Now I'm back at stock and breathing a sigh of relief. Unclear if I'll ROM back to Cyanogenmod.
I spent hours and hours reading discussions and going down one dead end after another. I'd say it was like looking for a needle in a haystack but it was the complete opposite. It was like looking for a specific needle in a sea of needles. Every search query yielding tantilizing results and a plethora of step by step guides that ultimately didn't work. A very frustrating experience all around. Good luck to anyone who reads this.
Hi Matt
Similar thing happened to me last night. I am/was using Omni-Nightly build. I plugged it in to the charger before bed, and it rebooted, saying upon reboot - "Encryption Failed" and saying the only way to recover would be to wipe the machine and start again, it then rebooted and all I get is the Samsung boot screen.
Tried rebooting, wiping, everything, Odin, Android Toolkit, nothing works. It shows up on my Linux PCs but not accessible, but not windows at all.
So after accidently wiping everything I had on both SD and Internal memory trying to make a custom rom work, I was stuck with a phone that only has TWRP on it, basically. Now after I've been through this guide TO THE LETTER: http://www.droidviews.com/install-stock-android-marshmallow-lg-g3-d855-using-twrp-recovery/ I can see it installed an OS but I cant seem to get my phone to load it! SO then I tried entering recovery mode and getting back to default, it didn't change anything, so I tried installing Zoe rom (https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development/zoe-rom-v1-0-mm-6-0-stock-v30a-d855-t3402087) and It STILL ONLY LOADS TWRP even though the installation seemed to be successful!
So what do I need to do? Just flat out delete TWRP? or what? Pleas advise as I'm desperate. If needs be, redirect me to how to just completely reinstall everything from scratch to 6.0 or 7.0 (preferably). I was on 4.x.x for ages and I just wanted to update, instead destroyed my phone. Sigh.
UPDATE: Another thing I've tried is to flash it with KDZ file from the PC. I can see the phone, I can transfer files to it, but windows DOES NOT recognize in the device manage so when I tried to use the flash tool, after clicking "Start" it pops a new window which gets to 60% and then stops saying the phone is not connected to the pc.

I just got over something like this this morning. First, you need to ensure you have the LG Universal drivers installed for your phone. Get them here.
Next, reboot your machine.
After this, I made sure the PC recognized all 3 modes of my phone, TWRP mode (boot to TWRP, connect), Download Mode (boot to download mode with cable) and, at least in my case, the flashing lights mode (shows up as QHUD Bulk or something).
After that, I ran the KDZ restore program successfully.
Good luck and let me know how it goes.
