Ok well first hello this is my first thread!
I'm having problems transfering files to my S4 (M919) on both internal and external SD, the issue is when im transfering files bigger than 1GB just before it finishes I get the messeage "the device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected", I looked for someone with a similar problem here in the forums and found that maybe enabling mass storage instead of MTP could solve this and it didn't work, I was trying to copy a 4.3GB file to my external sd in mass storage mode and now a message pops up saying that theres not enough space and file cannot be copied when there is 29.3GB free on the SD and only reads my external and not the internal memory can someone please help I'm getting tired of this I can't even copy a file to my phone, thanks.
Also the phone is rooted with clockwork touch 6.0.3.2, I have tried different USB ports and different computers and its all the same.

I assume you're using the cable that came with the phone? I only ask because I can't transfer a TouchWiz ROM with any other cable than the stock one; I'll get the same error as you. Also, I don't know if you're keeping the screen on during transfer, but try that as well.

Yes I'm using stock cable and the same thing keeps happening just 5 seconds before finishing the transfer, and yes keeping the screen on and it doesn't make a difference.

i downloaded a bunch of tv shows threw them on my SD card while it was in the note. i get home and go to transfer them from the phone to the computer and after a few seconds i get an error "A device attached to the system is not functioning" what the hell, ive never had this issue on any phone. ok so i thought it might have been my 16gb SD card doing this but it seems every SD card i try keeps giving this error and locking me out of the SD card unless i disconnect and reconnect. anyone else having this problem or know how i can fix it?
If you have an SD Card reader try with that. If not a different USB Cable or possibly a different computer. Did you just get that particular SD Card which fails to connect?
getting an SD card reader defeats the point, i dont want to constanly rip the back off my phone to take the SD card out, my issue is every time i plug the phone in it is recognized and i can see the SD card or the internal storage. ill go and try transfering a file from either storage areas and it gives me a transfer error mid way through, it has done this on 3 different computers with 5 different usb cables, its something to do with the dumb MTP storage crap, anyone know a way i can fix this problem? help please

The suggestion was you try with a card reader to make sure it's not the card itself that may be bad. Several machines ans cables and still no luck may just say "the card is bad".

Or try AirDroid from the Google Play Market. Uses wifi.
Also, some sd cards have poor factory formatting.
For each of my sd cards, I always do a full, non-quick, format, before I use it.
thanks but no its not memory card, or cable related, its poor drivers by samsung, the internet is full of people complaining about this issue with allot of the newer samsung phones. i finally got it to work after spending a few hours installing and uninstalling drivers and countless reboots
samsung drivers

Please tell me how you got it right? Ive been struggling with this thing for so long and its such a hangup powering off the phone to take out the sd card!
No issues here, and I've been using the same drivers as my GS2 did. Did you try USB Mass Storage mode?
From my experience my computer will see my card on and off when it was formatted to xfat but after reformatting it to fat32 as soon as i plug my phone in it will automatically detect my card without installing or changing drivers.

so, I've encountered problems transferring files to the removable sd card, when i try to copy something it indeterminately sits on "discovering" and in the mean time it crashes explorer ( not internet explorer) and also the phone completely freezes and has to be restarted. same happens when i try deleting stuff out of the sd card from windows and mac as well.
the same does not happens to the internal memory. And so far this is what i have done to see if it fixes the problem:
tried a couple different sd cards- did not work (was able to get rid of some files, but then it just went back to do the same)
tried it on mac os and windows, same thing, it crashes finder/explorer.
so i was thinking, could be related to anything software? or maybe my sd card slot is shot? the computers and the phone itself recognizes the sd card no problem, so that's why i think it might be software related.
Anyhow, so i was wondering if anyone could shed some light my way ? :good:
thanks alot!
EDIT: if i reboot to the recovery and mount from there it seems to work and transfer files with no problem whatsoever....
Have you tried changing the connection to MTP?

that seems to work too!!! awesome, i was getting worried my brand new gs2 had sd slot problems.
edit: no never mind, now it says something along the lines of windows cannot identify the device connected.
Hello! I need help transferring files from PC to my Galaxy Tab S 10.5's external SD Card via USB MTP connection. The Problem is that most of the files(usually video files with big size, like 0.5 - 2 GB) I am trying to copy failed to copy with MTP transfer error, like device is not responding when 10 - 90 % of file is already done. And there are only to ways - stop copy or skip file. But still, I can try to copy them after error without reconnecting device. And it is a chance that some of them will be copied. Does somebody see this error and how to deal with it? I don't have card reader unfortunately, but I am pretty sure that it is all OK with this card, cause I can put files to internal memory and then transfer to SD card with device software. But this is not a good workaround.

I feel like I keep reading about how root is required to write to external SD cards on these tablets. I might be wrong, but you may need to root.

Nope, root is necessary for 3rd party apps to write on extsdcard. I'm about copying from PC. And not all the time it is gonna fail. Sometimes I got my files copied.
i know EXACTLY what you are on about with this. and its bugged me for aaages!
the weird thing is, its not limited to our Tab S tablets, it seems to be something with Samsung devices in general (although people seem to have mixed success as some have this problem and some dont).
i have personally had this bite me in the ass with a Samsung galaxy s 3, s4, note 3, note 10.1 AND my Tab s 8.4 lte.
the most annoying thing is i still have not found a solution to it.
it appears that at random intervals, the tablet seems to loose the usb connection thus causing the file transfer to freeze (im guessing you see the progress bar in windows go so far and then just stop for a long period of time followed by a file transfer error message?). and the only thing that solves it is unplugging and re plugging followed by hoping THIS time it works.....
drives me batty......
this sound like our problem?

Yep. something like this. But I've never seen this issue with Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 And I can say, that I can see this problem with my Sony Xperia Z1, BUT, sony has USB-storage mode, and it is working fine. Also, I don't need to replug Tablet S after error occurs. It continues working. But this problem is definitely what am I talking about.
By the way. I changed USB cable to another(non samsung at all) and it works now! I transfer 16 GB without any errors, I hope it is not just a good luck, so you can try it too.
Ever since I got my G3 from Sprint, I haven't been able to see my external SD card on my PC when I connect with my USB cable. I only see my internal memory. This worked perfectly with my Galaxy S3, but it's been problematic from the get-go with this device. I can see and follow the paths on my device using ES File Explorer, but I don't have that path to click on in my File Manager on my laptop.
If I choose PTP, I can see my pictures, but if I choose MTP, I get nothing. I've toggled back & forth with debugging, but that doesn't change anything. Is it a driver I need to download? I have a 32 gig card, and I want to transfer some files to my pc that I no longer need for this device. I also want to more clearly see what's taking up all my memory, because I can't believe I'm using as much as my Settings/Storage says I am. I don't have a whole lot on here since flashing BarRin, and it says I'm using over 30 gb of internal and over 26 of my external. No way!!
Anyone have a fix?
I am an idiot. I downloaded the drivers, and I'm fine now. If the mods want to delete this thread, that will be fine. Sorry for the inconvenience.
I've got an OP3 that had MM in it (RROS). I started to have issues with the internal memory telling me whenever I tried to copy something from the internal memory or copy something into the internal memory, telling me that the device connection was lost and it was unable to proceed the copying process. I then managed to extract everything that matters to me from the phone with a simple WiFi FTP app. After that, I thought that I'd simply factory reset the phone and restore it back. After factory reset, I got the 6.0 back up and running, but as I tried to move things back to the internal memory with the stock OP3 USB cable (Win 7), the same issue did arise; while copying larger files to internal memory the connection is lost.
After that I thought that maybe wiping the whole data incl. system would do the trick. That was a bad idea, as now I have only my recovery and although the internal memory mounts when I boot up the recovery, I still can't copy larger files to it, say a new ROM for example. Therefore I currently have a paperweight in my hands and no phone. Any hints on how to solve this issue?
Are there any reports regarding bad internal memories on these phones?

Try a different USB driver. My phone had that exact issue but windows 10 auto updated the driver to smt else and my phone has worked ever since. Also your USB-C port might be dirty. I was having connection problems and sometimes when I moved my phone, I'd loose connection so I cleaned the hell out of my port and i stopped having those issues
Oh this problem sounds really familiar but not with my phone. I have never faced it on Windows 10 but I had back in the days of Win 7. Would you mind trying ADB instead of FTP? "adb push filename directory" to 'push' a file "adb pull filename directory" to pull a file from your phone. You can watch a tutorial if you want.
Thanks for the both of you for contributing to my issue. I managed to move a new Custom ROM into the internal memory with a simple USB OTG tool and a 16 GB USB memory stick. Now I've got a 7.1.1 but I might go back to 6.0 today, as I don't like the behaviour of the 7.1.1 at all.
But back to the main issue. I tested the phone in another laptop, and it worked just fine there. I then tested the phone in my laptop, in another USB port... Well what do you know, it works again just fine, so the problem seems to be in the other USB port... :silly: One should test the simplest solutions first before posting.
change the file extension to like .jpg then change it back to what it was once you have moved the file
