Hello! My (Sprint, Galaxy s 2, Model:SPH-D710) is having a screen problem. (How it happened) I was on an app called vine when my phone froze. (How i tried to fix it) So i took out and put back in my battery hoping it would fix the issue (it didn't). When i restarted my phone it would just stay on the Samsung logo. Thinking my phone was broken i decided to Hard reset my phone. With looked like it was working. Until it stop'ed half way and froze. So i took out the battery again (knowing it was a bad idea). Now when I try to turn on my phone only my blue notification light comes on. Please tell me if there is anything i can do to fix this.
Is it a solid blue or flashing

This is exactly right. Solid blue LED is a hard brick. Your best options now are to either J-tag it or sell it for parts. Sorry to hear you've lost your device

Solid blue is a full on hard brick, no choice but j-tag. Flashing blue isn't quite as bad, usually an Odin flash will fix it. Flashing could also be a voltage problem or a few other things.

Flashing blue normally means that the battery is faulty. Since you have solid, I am positive that you have suffered and EMMC failure and I am not sure that J-Tag can fix that... It could be worth a shot, but I doubt it will be able to be recovered.

I was under the impression that's what j-tag was for
I've never needed it so I've never really done much digging, but if I'm wrong in my thought thanks for correcting me:beer:

Well stryke. Sometimes jtag can bring it back. Other times even jtag cannot bring it back. It is a superbrick at that point and nothing will bring that chip back to life. You wont really know if its just hard bricked or super bricked until you try to jtag it. If there is a way to tell I have not seen nor heard about it yet.

From what I have seen, J-Tag has no issues on a phone that was bricked due to user error. This is a full blown out of the blue EMMC failure. I am about 80% sure that the chip is toast. I have had it happen on a Captivate. Sent it out for J-Tag, came back fixed, 5 minutes later it froze up. Pulled the battery and tried to reboot... Nothing. It was the exact same thing that happened to the guy I bought it from. He was on Facebook and it froze. Same issue.
The J-Tag might bring OPs phone back, but it is unlikely that it will last for even a day.

Depends on what is causing the solid blue. Solid blue just means it didn't finish POST correctly.
Anyhow, Josh (mobiletechvideos) will not charge if he can't fix it via JTAG - and I mention him as he is one of the premier solutions.

As a last resort try a USB jig. I wouldn't mod a Samsung without one.
There are several OG Epic tricks you can try. Try removing battery and SD card and plug phone in to PC and see if it powers to download mode.

I had the EXACT some problem last week. I went to the repair center, said the phone was plugged in at work, we had a power surge, and afterwords the phone wouldn't turn on. An hour later...BOOM, new phone
I then went on amazon and purchased a usb jig and kept my phone stock until it came. lol
Every rooted owner should spend the 2 bucks on a USB jig. It's not the holy grail, but it's one more tool in your belt to potentially get out of a frustrating and time consuming situation.
I bought mine from here and got it pretty quickly considering where it came from ...

I forgot to mention letting it sit when I mentioned this to someone else (or was it here?) about pulling battery and SD card. Also repeatedly press or hold power button with those out to purge any remaining juice in the phone. This stuff sounds crazy but ask any former OG Epic owner.. some of these tricks have brought phones back from the dead. There isn't a pinhole under the battery cover below the camera is there?
That last part was an OG Epic inside joke but the rest is worth trying

Hi,
I just bought a Pebble Blue S3 from craigslist without checking it out properly. (I know, shame on me). The phone is in physically mint condition, the water damage tab is not red and there are no signs of dropping.
The phone's screen does NOT turn on. When I hold the power button to have it load up normally, I can hear the T-mobile jingle and then a constant blue indicator would stay on the top left corner.
I have tried flashing it back to stock through download mode (Power, volume down, and home --> volume up mode) and it seems to make no difference to the screen's issue.
Flashing it back to stock might have made it worse because I can't even access the phone's internal memory through USB anymore.
Any help towards fixing my screen would be great!
Thanks.
So out of curiosity how much did you pay for a phone that you did not check to see if it turned on?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I paid $250 for it, came with original box and accessories. I thought it was too good to be true, and it seems that way. At worse I can probably break even and sell it as-is.
Is the battery low?

What does windows report it as in device manager?
If you can get to download mode it may not be hard bricked.
You could flash twrp recovery with idin, then boot recovery and try flashing something from thrre.
Also twrp has a builtin file manager so you can try to see if you can find sny problems that way. (Look for logfiles)
Are you sure its an SGH-T999?

I was able to access download mode by clicking around in the dark.
Positive it is a SGH-T999, before I flashed the stock PDA in ODIN, Windows Device manager would list that. How do I flash TWRP? Do I need the screen to do it?
Oh the battery is fully charged.

Here is the thread for TWRP. But you get to download mode by starting with the device completely powered off, then pressing the volume down, home and power button at the same time until it powers on. I dont understand what you meant by "I was able to access download mode by clicking around in the dark"
Button mashing I guess?
And just fyi, to boot recovery from power off
Hold volume up, home and power. When you see blue text flash on top of the screen release.
Also, flashing recovery in Odin will trip the flash counter. Prob doesn't matter considering the situation, but just so you know.

If you can get the phone in download mode, odin back to stock. Then boot into recovery using power +home + vol up and do a factory reset. This step is important. I borked my phone with a bad jb install and using odin on its own doesnt completely reset the phone. Using the factory reset fixed this in my situation

By saying I'm able to access recovery mode, I got in by basically doing the sequence of buttons, without seeing any display on the screen. I know it is in download mode because it reads on ODIN.
No matter what I click or what mode it is in, the screen is still completely off. Sorry for the confusion.

I've had Samsung service my SGS1 that I bought off Kijiji while it was still within its one-year warranty. It doesn't just apply to the original owner, just call them and tell them it was a gift, they'll ask for the phone's IMEI, and then they'll be able to tell if it is still within its warranty period.

Since December I've been running CM10 on my GS-III with little to no issues. I flash CM 10.1 mid January and even though it was an unstable nightly it was very stable.
Flashing the nightlies as they became available with no issues at all.
Then today my phone starts slowing down and froze up.
Keep in mind that I hadn't flashed a nightly in like a day or 2 do I had been using the past nightly as a daily driver.
When my phone decided to freeze I rebooted it and it booted just fine.
About 2 minutes in the screen goes black. Holding the power button it's unresponsive.
Now my phone is completely unresponsive to all button presses. I've tried the 3 button combos for recovery and download mode with no luck. I've even held the buttons for a full minute but nothing is working.
Is my phone dead or is there a possibility of resurrecting it?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium
Are you positive the battery hasn't died. That would be the first thing I would check. Even if it showed it was charging doesn't mean the battery is good. I'm not trying to be insulting either by asking this. I'm a equipment tech at a large semiconductor company and you wouldn't believe the number of times the fix was as simple as turning a breaker back on when another tech wanted to replace something major. #1 rule of troubleshooting: Is there power. #2 rule: Double check rule #1. Sounds silly, but it is the easiest thing to overlook. Good luck and I hope it's as simple as a battery.

No you're not insulting by asking that. I use to record music and when something wasn't wasn't working that's the first thing we asked and re asked.
Unfortunately I do believe I checked that out. When I plug in a charger it doesn't even show me a battery charging logo.
I have noticed that when I pull out the battery and connect the charger the led turns red.
I'll see if i can't swap batteries with one of my friends and see if that helps.

Ive been reading on this other explored method of sd card unbricking using a jig and tweezers to trip a resistor on the board and manually flash a new bootloader it seems..very very very complicated
And noone has succesfully done this as far as i know.
All i did was accidentally flash my old gsm note 2 t889 backup ,jedi master10 rom, when i meant to flash jedi invasion I overlooked the words master for invasion after it flashed it said
Install failed in RED and No OS installed at top then i realized what i did and tried to Save my a** and restore my nandroid that failed also ,then i tried to dig myself out this mess and flash the only other t999 zip rom i had on my sd and that failed Said no OS Installed on top after i rebooted never could reboot again Not even 3button.works for dload mode

I believe you are correct. I am still a noob at this tho.. But from what I see from an engineering stand-point, you nailed it.

I don't know all the specifics in your case, but I can tell you this about a hard or a soft bricked phone.
Plugging a Jig into any android phone is safe and will not harm it at all regardless of it's condition.
If the phone is hard bricked it will not go into download mode even with a Jig.
It makes no difference what the issue or problem is with the phone, simply
plugging a Jig into it will either get you into download mode or it won't.
The way you can tell if the phone is hard bricked is if the phone's screen and or
led's do not light up at all even with a known charged battery and regardless
of which button or combination of buttons are depressed.
If the phone vibrates it usually means that it's not hard bricked.
Hard bricked phones are DEAD they show no signs of life at all
that's why they are called BRICKS.
One of the nice things about the jig is that it can work even if the computer
does not recognize the phone when it's normally plugged into the usb port.
So if your phone is NOT hard bricked my suggestion would be to plug in the
Jig get it into download mode and have Odin ready with the stock or stock
rooted Tmobile Jellybean v4.1.1 firmware ready to flash using the TAR file.
Good Luck!
Hey guys. So while I was at the airport waiting to catch my flight, I was texting a friend
However, in the middle of texting my phone froze
So I thought "no big deal, ill just restart my phone like usual"
Little did I know that when I would try to restart my phomw it wouldn't turn on
The blue LED stays on and the screen stays black.
I've tried battrry pulls and tried charging it but to no avail
Any insight and or help would be greatly appreciated
Whether or not your story is legit, sounds like you bricked your phone. So if you tried flashing something and didn't do it correctly that's probably the reason.
Either way, if you have warranty Sprint will replace it.

How bout it's an EMMC failure and not OP's fault.
OP, your phone suffered an EMMC failure. It happens from time to time. it's toast...

Really? Darn.. So does that mean I'm SOL?
There may be a way to fix it. MAY...
J-Tag may be the only way, but I believe you will lose most of your storage space because it has to close off the bad area off the EMMC and rewrite the good areas. Google 'mobiletechvideos'. If anyone can possibly save it, it is those guys. If not, it is time for a new phone.
