After the recent update to Android 4.3, my Nexus 4 has been experiencing many irritating side effects. One of such bugs was loosing the phone signal every now and then. Sometimes the phone will come back online after few seconds. But more often than not, it wont come online and the phone remains without service untill I try to use the phone. In such a case, the only way to force signal search is by enabling Airplane Mode and then disabling it. Eventhough I have put the Airplane Mode Toggle in my PowerToggles home screen widget, enabling the Airplane Mode and then disabling it is a cumbersome thing to do. In order to simplify the process, I wrote a simple Tasker action and put that as a widget in homescreen. The action requires root access and Secure Settings Plugin (also the Helper) installed. Using the Tasker App Factory, I have converted the action to a standalone app and you can use it to refresh the signal manually on your Nexus 4 running Android 4.3. I have tested it on my phone and it worked without any issues. You can download the APK file from the link below.
PreRequisites for ths App to Work:
1. Root Access
2. Secure Settings Plugins and Secure Settings Helper must be installed

I hope this thing work, i'm about to throw my nexus in the toilet :crying:
Installed.
I'll try tomorrow, and give a feedback...
Didn't work for me on
N4 4.3 JWR66Y
But plugging airplane mode on and off doesn't either.
The only way I can solve this it's turning off an on the phone..
Ohhhhh.. Mine is also the same build. But toggling Airplane made helps to refresh signal. No need to reboot the phone.. I saw another post to downgrade the system radio app to the one included in jb4.2 as the issue is only present in radio app included in 4.3. So if this is not working you may explore that option.

that seems to be the permenant solution until google updates the radio app to remove the bug. I had created an action to automatically toggle airplane mode if the phone remains without signal for a predetermined period of time. but that consumes a lot battery (especially if u are travelling). so don't use it now. If anyone want the action, i can post it here.

Since this afternoon i'm getting a red flashing rectangle around the border of the screen when opening or closing apps. Doesnt mather wich app or in what rotate state. It's very irregular to get a pattern or pin down a problem. I have checked al settings to see if there is anything i might have set up by accident....
Also rebooting etc. doesn't help.
Please help anybody !!

Nope, i have looked at the developer settings, all options unchecked, nothing set there. (except the usb debug standard option, and no, turning that off doesn't help either)
Possibly hardware problem?

This is a setting in engineering builds of ICS. If you have the first version of eagles blood running, it does this. It is a simple change to the build.prop to fix it, though I am not sure what the fix is exactly

Is such a fix possible on original non rooted stock rom ?
And then to have the actual fix would be nice.
Mine was doing this until I flashed 4.02. Only randomly started when I was on 4.01.

Try checking then unchecking the developer settings mentioned. I'm not covinced it will change anything, but it won't do any harm to try...
i think this is what "strict mode" in the developer settings does, try checking then unckecking that one...

Got my sgs3 Sunday and when I got home turned on WiFi and started playing with it I notice that I lose network for a second after about 15 mins and my WiFi icon on the status bar disappear but network comes back on .. but in settings it is greyed out and I can't turn it off then back on till I reboot 0_o...thought maybe after I rooted and flash AOKP it would be fixed but no! I'm on T-Mobile and AOKP..so is it a bad WiFi driver or...? Any ideas?
#*0011# press the menu key. Select wifi. uncheck wifi power saver mode. Its should be green when on black off. Make sure its not on and done go back to home screen. Your phone should reboot the wifi driver and your done.
This method works for 4.0.4 any of the roms. Cm10 doesn't work. Cm9 haven't tried but I'm sure it'll work for u.

Question: are you rebooting your phone when this happens?
Cuz if you are that's normal on every reboot you have to go back and turn it off again.

would the method above work for me? since yesterday, my wifi kept turning on by itself. After I turned the wifi off for like a couple minutes then it'll turn on automatically again. I have the Keep Wifi on during sleep set as "only when plugged in" and it never happen to be before until yesterday. My power saving in the setting menu has always been off too. Please help! :crying::crying:
Install the app called "Wifi Fixer" app to the solve the issue.
Whatever Google did to cause a variety of wakelock problems, having a strong wifi signal seems to solve them. Apparently, wakelocks occur when there are unreliable connections to Google's servers.

I want to save battery life ....
I do not know about the app but there is one problem. Sometimes I download large files and i do not want to keep my screen awake all the time. But if it switches the connection to 2g from 3g (or vica versa) it disconnects for one second and the download fails.. So that could be a problem for downloading large files.

Juice defender can do that I think. Haven't tried it myself I don't use that app anymore, but I believe there was an option in it to toggle between 3g and 2g. However, you have to have root access and a kernal/rom that supports it. Stock kernals don't support allowing you to switch between 2g to 3g without doing it manually yourself through the settings, so you probably need to find a custom one that does.

You'll need a mod ROM to get full use of Tasker for battery improvement. Stock ROM doesn't allow 2G/3G switching.
I understand that CM10 allows this.
Someone should confirm, as I've stuck to rooted stock rom in SIII and plan to keep the same on Note II.

I'm having the same problem
I am not rooted and running stock jelly bean (ota version that I installed early because I was too impatient for them to push it to my phone). I have noticed my screen randomly staying on, too. It's very annoying because sometimes I don't notice until my battery is dead. A reboot fixes it temporarily, but I'd love a permanent fix if anyone has any additional ideas! Thanks! I've tried all the obvious settings, but can't figure it out. Is there an app that can help me figure out what the culprit might be?
(And can I just say, an edit to a post ought not fall under the "wait five minute" rule for new posters. Just my two cents .)

After looking all night I found a thread that fixed this. You have two choices really to fix or buy your router which I'm not going to do, or you can type in on your dial pad *#0011#. Then you click your menu button, click on the wifi option, and then disable the energy saver wifi mode. That made it so my phone wouldn't drop wifi connection anymore. NOTE: each time you restart your phone you need to turn the wifi energy saver off through the command *#0011#. Hope I helped some of you because this bug is truly annoying.

That stinks. I don't have any problem and I think this is only the 2nd time I've seen anything posted like this about the S4 (the S3 did have that issue and was common). I've never turned off any energy saver and mine stays connected 100% of the time. So you're saying either that or you have to buy a new router? What kind do you have now and what settings on it did you find out that cause this issue for you?
Right now I have whatever Verizon gives fios customers. It works perfectly for all my phones, tablets, and computer. Just not on my s4 unless I do the dial pad trick. I'll post a link on the xda thread when I get home on how to fix your router. It really does make me angry that I paid 600 for the phone and it does this. Hopefully Samsung fixes this soon since they acknowledge the problem
