Couldn't find anything in the Nexus forum about this.
Since this afternoon i'm getting a red flashing rectangle around the border of the screen when opening or closing apps. Doesnt mather wich app or in what rotate state. It's very irregular to get a pattern or pin down a problem. I have checked al settings to see if there is anything i might have set up by accident....
Also rebooting etc. doesn't help.
Please help anybody !!
Sounds like one of the developer options; show screen updates or show all anr's perhaps

Nope, i have looked at the developer settings, all options unchecked, nothing set there. (except the usb debug standard option, and no, turning that off doesn't help either)
Possibly hardware problem?
Got the phone about 4 days now and haven't had any problems. So far this is a great phone . I haven't had any problems with hardware

This is a setting in engineering builds of ICS. If you have the first version of eagles blood running, it does this. It is a simple change to the build.prop to fix it, though I am not sure what the fix is exactly

Is such a fix possible on original non rooted stock rom ?
And then to have the actual fix would be nice.
Mine was doing this until I flashed 4.02. Only randomly started when I was on 4.01.

Try checking then unchecking the developer settings mentioned. I'm not covinced it will change anything, but it won't do any harm to try...
i think this is what "strict mode" in the developer settings does, try checking then unckecking that one...

Had the same problem, and thought it wasn't strict mode until I rebooted! Try unchecking strict mode, then reboot...should fix it...

When I was using my phone today, I noticed that a long press on the power button was shutting down the phone instead of bringing up the menu. Then, I realized that I had also lost my lock screen, which I really hadn't noticed because I don't use the pattern lock. Turns out, even if I enabled the pattern lock, password, or PIN, using the power button still took the phone straight into the home screen.
I don't know if it was an bug in a random app, malware, or what... I spent a lot of time searching for an answer on what might have caused it, but didn't find anything really helpful. I started deleting all my recent apps, but couldn't get the lock screen back, so I ended up restoring the phone to factory settings and starting from scratch.
The only reason I'm posting about it is that I'm not entirely sure what caused it... I'm debating the possibility that it could it could be a touchwiz bug. Anyone else ever run into this?

Yes, its a known bug. I just ran into the bug today and I refuse to do a factory reset to fix the issue since its just gonna happen again. Samsung should be able to fix it with a simple software update.

Ah, that would explain it... I was tearing out my hair trying to figure out what I had done. Funny thing is, I don't even *like* having a lock screen. I was just bothered by the fact something was wrong...
How did you find out that it's a known bug? I must have been phrasing my search poorly, because I couldn't find squat about the issue.
Still, whether I like the screen lock or not, I think this is a pretty decent security bug, considering it removes the ability to lock the phone...

I know because I seen it under "list of known issues". If you scroll down a few post you'll find it. The downside to not having a lockscreen is that if you receive a text message your phone will automatically unlock and you may accidentally dial someone if the phone is in your pocket.

FOR THOSE OF YOU WITH THE LOCKSCREEN ISSUE I ADVISE USING A 3RD PARTY LOCKSCREEN. I AM CURRENTLY USING "AGILE LOCKSCREEN" (WHICH CAN BE FOUND IN THE ANDROID MARKET). I AM USING THE PRO VERSION, BUT THE FREE ONE WILL DO THE JOB ALSO.

Mine's gone too.... Now that we have root I've a nandroid backup which I believe still had the lockscreen and will try restoring from that. If that doesn't work then I guess I'll do a master reset and restore from Titanium Backup. Hopefully Clockwork Recovery will survive the master reset...
I thought that was just me yesterday so I did a master reset

Hi All,
I am in the UK and have a new 16GB White unbranded unlocked Note 2 running stock JB 4.1.1, the device has never been modified or rooted. When I go into aerial view and attempt to drag a home screen into the trash I get a Force Close in Touchwiz which restarts and the home screen remains in place. I have tried format of cache in recovery but it made no difference. I don't want to do a factory reset and lose my stuff, but will do if thats the only fix. Do I have any other options? Has anybody got this problem and did you resolve it?
Thanks for any replies

That happened to me when i diasbled animations in settings, development options, always enable them from 0,5 or higher.
Anyone found a solution to this problem. I had disabled animations from the "Developer Options" previously. I have enabled them now but I am still getting the crash.
Try reboot in recovery and wipe cache and reboot.

I'm having the same problem
I am not rooted and running stock jelly bean (ota version that I installed early because I was too impatient for them to push it to my phone). I have noticed my screen randomly staying on, too. It's very annoying because sometimes I don't notice until my battery is dead. A reboot fixes it temporarily, but I'd love a permanent fix if anyone has any additional ideas! Thanks! I've tried all the obvious settings, but can't figure it out. Is there an app that can help me figure out what the culprit might be?
(And can I just say, an edit to a post ought not fall under the "wait five minute" rule for new posters. Just my two cents .)

Use an app called Stay Awake. Works great for me.
I have had the problem twice now where screen rotation stops working (even in apps where I **KNOW** it should work (like Facebook). I try toggling the option in the quick bar on and off to see if I can get it to come back but nothing. I have to reboot to get it back.
I downloaded an app from the market called GyroRotate to see if it is a hardware problem but it doesn't appear to be since the app responds appropriately when it isn't working.
Any ideas?

I'm completely stock, I did the OTA update and my screen rotation stopped working. Well I'm not exactly sure if it was the OTA update that caused the problem because i didn't have the phone long enough before i applied the update, so it might have been broken just overlooked it. Most of the time it works but the youtube app does not rotate. I have to restart the phone to get it working again and then after some time, don't know what causes the problem, it will stop working again.
Yup same problem but even when its stuck, samsung apps like email or calculator will rotate, its weird and annoying at times, especially since I cant figure out whats causing it. Im also stock and rooted
Try calibrating in settings then motions and then find gyroscope calibration

I really don't think this is a Q&A issue, which is why I posted it here.
Q&A Issue would be something like - How can I enable WI-FI through a widget.
A possible bug like this one doesn't belong in Q&A IMO.

I suspect that it might have something to do with advanced display options. In addition to "auto-rotate screen" there is a "Smart rotation" mode which - if enabled - may disable screen rotation (it checks orientation of your face).
This is a known issue... I had it once before and it's never returned... There's a thread about it somewhere... the fix involves removing the battery and rebooting...
Two questions
Does anyone know of a way to firmly reproduce this error???
How can we report stuff like this to Samsung to get fixed.

I would like to be able to firmly reproduce the problem before I contact anyone since they will disregard it (IMO) until I can.
Turn the phone off and then back on make sure you see the little red light in the motion sensor turn on for a second. Rebooting doesn't fix the issue. Sometimes you may have to turn off three finger boot to recovery and reboot system.
After the recent update to Android 4.3, my Nexus 4 has been experiencing many irritating side effects. One of such bugs was loosing the phone signal every now and then. Sometimes the phone will come back online after few seconds. But more often than not, it wont come online and the phone remains without service untill I try to use the phone. In such a case, the only way to force signal search is by enabling Airplane Mode and then disabling it. Eventhough I have put the Airplane Mode Toggle in my PowerToggles home screen widget, enabling the Airplane Mode and then disabling it is a cumbersome thing to do. In order to simplify the process, I wrote a simple Tasker action and put that as a widget in homescreen. The action requires root access and Secure Settings Plugin (also the Helper) installed. Using the Tasker App Factory, I have converted the action to a standalone app and you can use it to refresh the signal manually on your Nexus 4 running Android 4.3. I have tested it on my phone and it worked without any issues. You can download the APK file from the link below.
PreRequisites for ths App to Work:
1. Root Access
2. Secure Settings Plugins and Secure Settings Helper must be installed

Ohhhhh.. Mine is also the same build. But toggling Airplane made helps to refresh signal. No need to reboot the phone.. I saw another post to downgrade the system radio app to the one included in jb4.2 as the issue is only present in radio app included in 4.3. So if this is not working you may explore that option.

that seems to be the permenant solution until google updates the radio app to remove the bug. I had created an action to automatically toggle airplane mode if the phone remains without signal for a predetermined period of time. but that consumes a lot battery (especially if u are travelling). so don't use it now. If anyone want the action, i can post it here.
