[Q] Locked Cracked screen Help! - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

Hi, I have a very big issue, I dropped my SGH-M919 from a coffee table to a carpet, which seems like an innocent fall/drop, but in this case it wasn't, my digitizer broke inside impeding my ability to see anything, all I have is a blank screen, I can hear notifications as they come in as well as incoming calls, but can't do anything about it, I already have a replacement on the way from tmo, but my main problem is, How do I get my pc to recognize my phone so I can transfer some important data and pictures I have, FYI I have a screen lock 4 digit pin....I'm I really screwed or is there a way for me to recover this data??? Thanks in advance for any help....
P.S. I'm running stock.

Can you get ADB to work with the screen locked? Maybe if ADB work you can ADB pull files. I don't know if it will work just throwing out ideas for you.

If all you have is a blank screen you may be in luck!
1) are there any visible cracks ?
if yes, you may be SOL but doesn't hurt to try step 2.
if not
2) is the blank screen black or white?
If black, try shining a flashlight at an angle. Your LED backlight may have broke or connectors are bad. You might be able to see everything.
If white, google Galaxy S4 disasembly (try ifixit) disassemble your phone and make sure the video flex's and connectors are secure. I drop like that can easily dislodge them.
What data are you trying to pull?
Apps, can always be redownloaded. Purchased apps are attached to your google account as well as contacts and a slew of other things.
Music and Pictures can be pulled just by plugging the phone in and exploring.
SMS and Call Logs, I don't think so unless you get the screen replaced obviously. Replacing the screen does not wipe ur data.

He will not be able to explore phone unless lock screen is disable.

He wasn't very clear about his damaged condition. If you read my possible solutions you would realize screen lock is irrelevant.
If his backlight is out, the flashlight will help him see where to enter screenlock. If his flex is loose disassembly and reinstalling correctly will fix the phone.
Notice how he said "my digitizer broke inside impeding my ability to see anything" implying the fact he doesn't realize the digitizer has nothing to do with his ability to see the screen as that has to do with the LCD. He just says blank screen so hard to tell his problem.

Once you receive your replacement, add the same lock screen and use that as a guide to where to touch.

Any way to keep screen off all the time until top power button pressed?

More than half the time I take my phone out of it's case in my pocket to check texts or call somebody, it's always on and eating battery. Alot of the time I have the phone in vibrate or silent because I can't have it going off most of the day, and whenever I get any kind of notification the screen comes on (text, alarm, call, ect.), and then the screen ends up staying on because it's constantly being bumped and never has the time to shut itself down.
Is there any way I can make the screen stay off at ALL times (except on an incoming call), and ONLY come on when I press the unlock/power button on the top of the phone?
I have a TMobile TP2 and I'm running the Nov. 19th, Photon Energy ROM. Upgrading to the Nov. 27th version when it's done downloading but I don't think that will fix the problem as I've changed ROMs before. Thanks to any help.
you will find that when in the case it should be off, on taking the phone out of the case (i assume the HTC one that came with the phone?)
the magnet in the case triggers the keyboard sensor which turns the screen on.
otherwise, you can change the display time out in power options under settings.
Cheers
Steve
That's interesting, I've heard about the case doing that but never thought about it. Would you recommend any cheap cases, or is there a specific magnet location I should be careful of? And do you know if there is a way to keep the screen off when I get a text message for example?
There is a way to fix this... it is to disable "Wake on Slide." I have done this and no more problems.
Here is a link to what to do:

Hope it helps you, as it did me.
Thanks for the reply and I appreciate the help, but I don't really have a problem with the wake on keyboard slide, it seems that if the phone is in my pocket locked, and I get a text message, the screen comes on to notify me that I have a text message. Then, it's usually being bumped around in my pocket and since the touch screen is usable with any object, it will stay on because something will tap it in my pocket. The phone then heats up over time and drains battery. I want to find a way to keep the screen off at all times unless, I either receive a call, or push the power button. Thanks.

Try:
go to HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL
change DisableSMSWakeUpEvent to 1 (0 will wake up the device)
On my Rhodium, it does not wake up by default. I hear the notification, but my screen remains dark
Or try this cab file ... soft reset after install
Thanks for the .cab, I'm restarting now to see if it fixes the problem. Kind of random, but I might as well ask here before starting a new thread. I started using Mobile Shell instead of TF3D and so far I love it, but when setting a wallpaper, the wallpapers that I would normally use in TF3D, (480x800), it makes me select or crop out part of the photo to use as a background in Mobile Shell. I can't tell if it actually gets blurry (I would think so, because it's stretching the picture), but does anyone know why it wants me to only use a certain portion of the background instead of just setting the entire picture? Thanks,
More than likely, the version of Mobile Shell you have is either not designed for WVGA or there is a setting somewhere in there that allows you to change it and you haven't found it yet.
Am not a expert on mobile Shell, but according to their website, the latest version (3.5) does support WVGA.
Another option is to, if you have Adobe Photo shop or something similar, scale down the entire picture to the size it reccomends.
Otherwise, if you have a version earlier then 3.5, maybe you could upgrade and see if it makes any difference.

Enable WiFi Tethering over ADB

Is there anyway I can enable wifi tethering over adb. I rely on my G2 for internet access and my screen recently quit working. So I was wondering is there anyway to turn on tethering so that I can have internet access when my roomate isn't here with his blackberry.
As far as I know, there isn't really a way to get tethering working with only ADB. Can you explain specifically what doesn't work, the touch screen or the LCD itself? If it's the lcd and you can still touch it, then I suggest using the SDK screenshot tool to help you set up one of the quick keys as a shortcut to the tether app/service. If it's the touch screen, then you might still be able to use the trackpad to set the quick keys also.
Also, I suspect something might be wrong with your data ribbon beneath the hinge, are you sure it's not disconnected?
i believe the G2 still has the input command, and the android SDK has a way of taking screen shots, so you can either do adb shell input key xx where xx is the key number value on the phone(can be found by using clockwork and finding keytest), also my syntax there may be off, adb shell into the phone and type input and see what the phone says the syntax should be. and if the screen is broke you can take screenshots of what "should" be on the screen and move around that way.
Thanks for the help everyone, but I got tired of not having internet i ended up trying to touch it from memory and got it right on the first try. There isn't any damage to either screen, it just quit working while it was in my pocket. I figured it was probably the data cable since I can move the screen up and down a couple times and the screen will change from all white to all black or some other color. I'm not planning on messing with it too much. i have a warranty replacement coming in on the 1st and i'll just wipe it through fastboot and send it in

[Q] Touch screen not calibrated?

all was well with my Dinc except for I had 2 blown speakers. I ordered new ones from ebay and replaced both. After replacing both, the bottom of my screen seems to not be working correctly. Whenever I go into SMS and hit the bottom for the keyboard to come up, it doesn't. I try using Whatsapp and it does the same thing. Its weird because the "attachment" button on the bottom of a sms works fine. It might just be that bottom/middle area. Is there any way to fix this? I had a feeling once I removed those ribbons to replace my ear speaker It was gonna mess something up .
I'm on MIUI android 2.3.5.
Is there any fix to this? or am I gonna have to just live with it for awhile?
EDIT: forgot to add, when I'm in WhatsAPP and I try clicking the bottom to bring out the keyboard, it highlights the message a little bit above where the text box is at, so its not reading where I'm pressing correctly. Its reading a little higher when I press in the bottom/middle area of the screen. Hope I explained that well enough for you guys to understand
A quick way to test if your screen is buggered is to downloading a drawing app and try to draw on the parts of the screen that you think aren't working. If you can't draw there you either a.) didn't connect a ribbon all the way b.) damaged a ribbon c.) electrically damaged something.
or d.) terrible coincidence and your touchscreen was on its way out anyways
It might be time for a new touchscreen. I had a similar problem where my screen wouldn't respond to touch in certain parts. I never took apart my phone prior to that so it wasn't (i don't think) my doing. Replaced with a new screen and I was good to go.
Take apart your phone and disconnect/reconnect the ribbons to ensure they are on there good. If that doesn't solve it I'd say a new touchscreen is in your future

[Solved] How to back up contacts and apps etc.. with a broken digitizer and screen?

Well my screen has been cracked for a while but last time was too much and it spider webbed across the screen. display is black, and digitizer doesn't work. I would like to back up my apps and everything but I don't know how to go about it. I tried one method of displaying my screen on my desktop using android screen caster however it will not let me input to the device so basically I can look at my lock screen and that's it. Am I close and just messed something up on screen caster or is there a better way to do this? Much appreciated!
Seeing the blinking notification light is just torture....
[EDIT] After tons of searching I finally found this program that gets all your Apps, contacts, messages, call history, calender, notes, etc... Highly recommended if your digitizer and screen are broken and you need to get these things off your phone. My Phone Explorer by fjsoft completely free with a donate option if you so choose.

About screen turn off and on problem

Hi,
I am using Note II, stock ROM and unrooted....Only install a few apps like facebook, line, whatapps, viber, candy crush.....everything works fine....
I found a problem and hope friends here can give me some advices...
My screen turn off during answering call but sometimes the screen won't turn back on automatically when I move the phone away from ear....I have tried the following when the screen remains off:
a) open and close the flip cover
b) move the finger to cover the censor and then move away
c) shake the phone up and down
d) turn the phone back and front
All the above actions failed to turn the screen on..I have to press the home button in order to turn it on..
I already check the censor in #*0*# mode and the censor works well...
I am wondering why sometimes can work, sometimes cannot work..
anybody facing the same problem? is it software bugs or hardware failure?
Thanks for help!!
P/S:
I have done censor test in development mode, factory reset and clear call cache.....
Don't know why sometimes still failed to turn screen on....every time my wife complain the screen won't turn on, i told her to dial again, like to those customer service line which need to key-in menu selection 1-2-3-4-5, the screen turn on well to let her key in number....wired....
maybe like 70% success 30% fails...
i also get this most of the time. i talked to 2 reps at local stores and 1 had just recently heard the same complaint about the same phone. it is likely the proximity sensor.my screen even goes dark before i put it to my face so if i wanted to use speaker and / or input anything, i couldnt even if i wanted to. i have had to wait a whole minute a few times before the screen comes back on or reboot the phone. i talke to samsung tech support to ask if i send it in will the sensor be replaced with a known good part and i kinda got the runaround stock answer . ( theyll test and fix or replace with refurb) which means i am likely to get the same issue.
dunno, otherwise great device.
