[Q] unlocking bootloader on preproduction e973 - LG Optimus G (International)

Ok, so I bought a pretty inexpensive pre-production model of the e973.
I have rooted the device, but before I move on to attempting anything that could result in a brick/hassle more easily I figured in should ask around.
I can't flash a custom recovery without disabling the security checks, correct? But to do that I need to tamper with the bootloader, which is probably different on this phone.
Can anyone help me and let me know what info I need from the phone to get answers?

Ok, so autoprime was very helpful on irc, and i just used lgnpst to flash the bell .tot on my phone and rooted it using motochopper, then unlocked the bootloader with freegee.
Pretty painless, really.

In the future always dump your boot loader first! Never know when its extra spicy.

Received software update, is it still ok to try freegee?

I was thinking of unlocking my Sprint LG og today, but received an update early morning.
Would it be okay to try unlocking or should I wait until further update by developers about freegee project?
I've posted the same question to freegee thread.
Another thing I noticed is on my Windows machine I probably don't have LG driver (my primary os is Linux and I rooted using my Ubuntu laptop) where can I find the Windows drivers?

Do not update to ZV9. Unlock and Root then flash the ZV9 or Lifeless ROM in Development. If you update you cannot root.
Checked software version and it has ZV8 at the end and I've already rooted the phone.
So I think as long as my software version does not end with ZV9 I can safely unlock, right?
In that case where can I get LG drivers for Windows or unlock method (freegee) for Linux? Thanks

just go to the lg site for the drivers and i suggest getting the freegee app for 1 dollar on the play store. easiest method and you get to choose your recovery method.
Awesome thanks a lot guys, I'll get freegee app
And I agree I didn't read a lot before posting but was mainly confused because of update

Can't do the LS970_ZVC OTA update

I don't know how to start talking about this so here we go...
I tried updating OTA with my phone rooted. I never unlocked bootloader btw. In the midst of updating, I got the android laying flat on his back w/ the red triangle w/ the exclamation point in the middle. I freaked out and was bout to cry until my phone booted up. I never had that happen.
A few days later, I decided to unroot my phone and try updating again (because the constant popups were annoying) and same problem.
My last resort was factory resetting the phone and try the update...no dice.
So I need help.
1) How can I update when it just...won't let me. Another option is
2) How can I can turn off the pop up notification. I know how to turn off the status bar notification. Or a REALLY DRASTIC OPTION is
3) How do I unlock bootloader? I am terrified and would want proof but this method is if I am REALLY desperate.
If nothing works, I hope I can take my phone up to Sprint and exchange it for an HTC 8XT, since my phone is still worth something...I hope.
Thanks for people who respond and try to help me in advance
EDIT: Scrolling through forums I found someone who posted the same thread like mine so...you can do whatever you want to this thread.
I apologize.
Don't OTA it then. Download some ZVC rims in the Android development section..... I believe Mr.Nerdz ZVC is a stock rom with no tweaks what so ever. Dunno if it comes root or not and if not, rooting and unlocking is the same as ZVB

Then use the sbl unlock in FreeGee's menu.
Or LGNPST with teeny bins. Both unlock the same way, just with a different delivery.

Yeah. When I first have LGOG, I used freegee and soft brick as well. Then used teeny bin and was okay. The latest freegee helped me unlock and didn't soft brick on me in zvc when I manual update zvc thru lgpnst

Freegee won't unlock bootloader!

Hey everyone, I had to reflash the ZVC software through LGNPST because I bricked my phone and now I'm having trouble unlocking the bootloader - I've never had a problem with this before! When I run Freegee it doesn't even ask or have the option to unlocked the bootloader, just to flash recoveries. I tried that hoping it would unlock it, but it didn't work. The older versions you would just click "unlock my phone" but this new one it doesn't exist. I even tried using an older freegee to unlock it, but even though it says "Your phone has been liberated!" it still remains locked. Any ideas?

Have you tried the sbl unlock in the FreeGee menu? Or teeny bins, since you already have LGNPST.

There is no option for that in the new version of freegee that I downloaded, none that I can find! And yes, I tried the teeny bins as well
The only way to install a recovery is to unlock the phone .

So as Shel said... If you have a recovery, then your unlocked.
I ran it last night and it is even more simple now. Backup EFS, install recovery, Done.

Thanks for the new FreeGee. It's so simple, a caveman can do it.
Guess I need to rewrite/shorten the guide now.
So now we just go straight to the SBL unlock I guess?

The Google comes from the sbl unlock that used to be the only option on the new FreeGee.
The Freegee released last night gives you an option of the old style with LG, and the new style with Google.
Eventually you'll end up with the Google style just because that will be needed to unlock your phone. That's just the nature of our phone.
As for the lock symbol, are you sure it isn't an open lock and just not turned? Mine has it and is unlocked. If you press and hold the power+vol up that should give you TWRP or CWM. Whichever was your choice.

[Q] Verizon Xperia Play r800x

Hi everyone. I completely apologize for this question as I am absolutely new to Android and to unlocking a phone. I just bought a R800x Verizon Xperia Play for the sole purpose of being able to play emulators. I will not be activating it to use as a phone. I have read as much as I can and am still a little confused in regards to being able to unlock the bootloader and install roms.
If the bootloader message says No, am I not able to unlock it or install roms at all?
If it says yes, can I install any rom, or am I limited to what I saw as Cola and a few others?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Anyone help me out. Or can I keep it locked but install cola?
You can.unlock the bootloader I have mine unlocked using sonys unlock method but.if you wish to.stay with a locked bootloader yoj can.install cola but you'll have to.root 2.3.3 install clock work mod.recovery I my.self.am.vefy glad I unlocked my.bootloadef and since yoj habe.no.intentions of using the phone side yoj could install numeruous amounts of gsm roms

If I unlock it using that method. I've read the forums. I just need to get flash tool then and pick a rom I want to use. Most roms come with the clockwork recovery from what I'm seeing.

[POLL]Install CWM from ICS without unbricking.

I wanted to find out if anyone thinks it would be useful to be able to root ICS and install CWM without having to downgrade to GINGERBREAD first? I have pulled the unlocked bootloader from the P936's v10i Rom and replaced the locked bootloader from ICS and install CWM Touch and therefore eliminating the need to unbrick your phone first. This includes either full stock or after a fresh install from v18f/v20x. This is done through ADB using a simple bat file.
So I just need to know:
1. Yes I think this is useful or
2. No this isn't useful.

1. Absolutely. I am on ICS and installing a recovery seems a pain in the ... Of course every easier method would be highly welcome.
Sent from my LG-P930 using Tapatalk
You cannot unlock the bootloader on ICS and you need an unlocked bootloader in order to install a custom recovery from what I have seen and read.
I saw in another post that someone was able to do and I would love to see a bat file that saves us the trouble of unbricking.

I found a way . Actually it more accurate to say that I found a way to push an unlocked boot loader that bypasses the lock. Fully tested. I will provide more details when I get the thread done. No unbricking needed.
