Hello!
Here's a rather weird request... I'm planning on getting a HTC one, and there is only ONE thing that bugs me: the button layout and not having onscreen buttons instead by default.
So what I wanted to do was, enable navbar with some tweaking/rom and have something that can cover the front so that essentially the front screen is just all black: no logo, no buttons. Any recommendation on what I should get for this?
Browsing around myself I haven't found any myself, so I'm hoping a HTC one owner out there has done something similar and could point me in the right direction.
Black nail polish! No really though, I have no idea. I thought about doing the same as you but never found a good solution so I learned to use/accept the official layout

I was thinking on the lines of sharpie
Did you try onscreen keys on the one ? It seems that it would be very far up into the device (bezel + speaker)
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I never used an actual navigation bar, just pie controls and it wasn't too bad. I imagine it would be a little high up, but you'll be looking at the screen anyway.
My vote is you try the sharpie and let me know how it works so I don't have to remove my screen protector
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4
Take a cheap screen protector, put a piece of tape across to create a straight line above the nav bar, spray paint the section below, and there you have it a blacked out nav bar without defacing your phone.

Yea I was planning to sharpie on the screen protector too.
But I think spray paint would look much better. Ordered a one, should arrive on the 5th the latest! And right after I took the effort to revert to pure stock on my gnex

Well, while I wait for my phone, I decided to mess around with some psd to see what it would look like "in an ideal world". I'm no good with photoshop, please bear with me.

Since the screen size of the phones are the same (by specs), I used the same screen image. Compared to my current phone, the bottom bezel will be slightly larger. Doesn't look too bad I think, since the space is used by the speakers. I suppose if it's too higher, choosing a flatter/smaller nav-bar might make the proportions look better. But changing that would require PA or another custom ROM.
Now I need to figure out how we'd disable the buttons and/or turn off the lights...

You can use a Dbrand skin from dbrand.com
They'll custom design a skin for you too so if you want to have that part covered with say...leather, or aluminum skins to make it seem like its a large aluminum rectangle at the bottom.

Looks awesome, supurb craftsmanship Looks like a metal nexus.
I had a go but messed up on everything I tried. I tried a cheap screen protector but kept getting ugly streaks, leaving some spots slightly visible and others not. You coloured the side that sticks to the screen right, how did you get such a nice uniform layer?
While I hunt down another screen protector, I've tried to edit build.prop, but it doesn't work for me. Running the stock google play edition ROM, I'm on Hboot 1.54, so can't S-off, this was the closest to stock I could get. Is the setting not sticking due to the same reasoning here?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2255573
If it is, I'm pretty much locked down to using the buttons until s-off arrives on 1.54
I have a STASH of matte screen protectors...
1) First one, I just sharpied the bottom area, but when i apply the whole screen protector, air lumps appear right above where the sharpie is.
2) So then I tried just making marks on the buttons and logo, same problem
3) Thought that I could perhaps cut the bottom part of the protector off, make it black and apply so that air bubbles don't form... but then the protector is slightly warped from the cutting.
Perhaps my layer of sharpie is too thick?
I don't think there's any winning. Maybe someone should contact dbrand for a custom skin as previously suggested. Personally, I gave up on this for now and decided to just love the HTC layout to the best of my ability
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
I never understood why anyone would want this (until now), but Gelaskins cover the buttons and logo area. You can create a custom design with that area blacked out.
So in the end, i did get something done to my liking:
I bought some window tint film off ebay (samples cost $1 for a set of 5). Cut it up so that it fills the bottom part of the screen. I cut my glossy screen protector so that it fits above it (the pics above don't have screen protector installed, but it looks the same. You could use a matte screen protector, but it highlights the cut a bit more
While it certainly didn't match toaster's simplicity and effectiveness, I'm quite happy with the result. Maybe my screen protectors are cheap and pick up the smallest bump easily. On the bright side, if you leave the lights enabled, it looks pretty sleek, kinda like the old LG chocolate
Got a navbar by running PA Rom, i can't get navbar from build.prop editting (was on S-on maybe?). I'll be trying again later. Hoping to find a GPE based rom with Nav bar.
Nice dude, glad to see that it worked out for you. Sounds like an excellent solution. I solved my problem much differently and just got an LG G2. It hasn't even been 24 hours but so far I love it

hello guys,
I just bought a S2 recently and its the black one (got it off craigslist) and i was wondering. is there anyway I can make it white? (like the one on sprint.com 's homepage). I love the white one and would love to have my phone white.. is there a way to do it and is it worth it?.. thanks!
I dont think they sell any colored shell or battery door replacement sets like they do for iphone 4 to customize the phone unless you wanna go Oreo and order a white battery door

So does it not have any cutouts for the buttons/speaker/etc? Because that's what it looks like (and would actually be good... I would get the black and have a buttonless phone)

How visible are the cutouts if you leave them on?
love it . thanks man! is it just a "screen protector" pretty much? and do you think it'll last a while?
That's awesome looking, I am going to order a black and a white version and see what it looks like... I can't decide whether to go with matte or glossy though.... the matte looks pretty cool so I think I will go with that
Are the cutouts on the capacative buttons noticeable when the decal is over them because I don't intend to take them off...

Yes in regards to your question about the shell of the phone. I have mind with a White screen, black back housing with White battery door... I call mine the Kung Fu Panda s2..I will attach a link for pictures of my device...

it'll basically protect from little scratches here and there, it's mainly for cosmetic purposes
it feels like it's gonna last awhile, i tested it going in and out of my tpu cases and "naked" in and out of my pocket
pretty good for 10 bucks
and here's a little tip, heat the edges with a blow dryer(or any fan blowing heat)
it helps to give the edges a better seal

Finding the OEM parts, though not the easiest of things, is by far easier then having to tear down the device and install the needed pieces.
So if your not up to or technically inclined to perform such a task, then one is probably better off approaching a less invasive procedure.
The battery door is no problem, it's the front screen portion that takes a lot of careful work.
Looks like someone is selling the back cover and battery cover, not the face plate though. Could make for a nice combo look, priced right

using the silver bezel with the black phone comes out nicer than mixing the black with the white IMO

Here is one pic that shows it well.
Now for the screen protector. I am not sure if they are made to not cover the whole screen from side to side, but I would have thought so. These screen protectors are pretty think to not have it go from side to side because I think you would run into touch sensitivity problems right at the edge of the screen.
Here it is actually against the edge of the glass on one side of the phone.
Here is an album of few more pictures of the case and screen protectors.
Like I said though, I would have really loved this case if it fit right. It is really thin and doesn't really change much about the phones area.

Do they all not go to the edges? That seems very odd to me and would make it to easy to peel up I would think with how think this is. Not to mention you need to touch where that is. Especially with the Browser lab side touch thing.

The screen of the HOX curves on the edges so screen protectors would bubble up if they were edge to edge.

My SGP Air case fits fine. Maybe you got a fake one? There should be a serial number inside the case, you can go here to authenticated.
The screen protector problem is well known and widely covered by the screenprotectors thread. Research helps an insane lot sometimes...
As said before, the best available screenprotector that covers the whole screen is the wet application Skinomi (techskin). Most dry application ones don't cover the screen because they don't like the curved edges of the screen, they're too stiff and don't have enough adhesive power to stay on properly.

Is yours the international version or USA and canada version? Some cases are made to fit the international and to fit the USA.
Background:
I ordered the XGear Spectre Tempered Glass Screen protector back on August 16th (1st Version). Upon receiving it I noticed the infamous dots (which didn’t bother me really), the rainbowing and most annoying of all, the proximity sensor issue. Since then the protector has gone through 2 revisions, I will be talking about the latest one. I dealt with the very first one for about 5 days and finally I got fed up and took it off because I couldn’t end a phone call in the dark without holding it directly in front of a light or pulling the battery.
Pics of first version notice small dots for proximity sensor:

Shortly after returning the XGear product, Spigen released their Glas screen protector which is very similar, they actually cut out the glass and also use clear glass around the “SAMSUNG” logo so it shows through (nice touch) also they include bumpers to raise up your home button (its still recessed but the colors match, Im using the white screen protector on a blue phone). However theirs is plagued by an insensitivity on the screen, as if it doesn’t sit perfectly flush, the only complaint but a HUGE ONE. I use swift key for those curious and I had to slow down my text speed to a hunt and peck method basically. They finally acknowledged the fault in their product and I am in the process of getting a refund.
Spigens version (notice "SAMSUNG" is "cut out" on theirs:
Unboxing:
After unboxing the newest iteration of the XGear Spectre I immediately noticed that the proximity sensor is now a cutout in the glass per se, its actually still covered but its all clear now instead of two small holes, also there are no dots on it what-so-ever.
Installation:
I installed it in a steamed room to calm the dust and after doing this about 3 times ive learned how to apply it near flawlessly.
Results:
I can say that so far I am more then pleased with the protector. There are NO sensitivity issues (Im back to texting full speed), NO proximity sensor issues (Tested in a dark room, called myself from the my home phone, proximity sensor worked flawlessly), there are NO dots (looks like a solid piece of glass) and there is NO rainbowing. I recommend this one over Spigen's.
Another small tidbit, XGear’s protector actually covers more of the screen. It may be difficult to see in the pictures but it almost touches my Spigen case, whereas the Spigen screen protector left a few millimeters all the way around (not a huge deal but something I thought I would mention because I prefer it covering as much of the screen as possible).
Final XGear Spectre:
Thanks again pmoradi2002 for giving me one of the first looks at this newest Spectre.
so with the spectre brand redone one is there any issues at all? I'm so fed up with these flimsy screen protectors and polyuerathane(?) types.
Thanks for the comparison. Waiting for the revised pebble blue to be released.

A friend of mine has a white Galaxy S3 and wants to change it to red. What is the cheapest, easiest and the most professional looking way to do it (except putting it in a red case) ?
Back cover is obviously is not an issue, the sides don’t matter either. What I’m interested is the front.
I have thought about changing the glass panel, but the procedure is risky and I might end up damaging a perfectly working phone and void the warranty at the same time.
Other option is to change the whole LCD assembly, but that is too expensive (IMO cheaper to sell the white one on eBay and get a new red one).
Then I looked at some of the skin options, but they look really bad, especially the cutouts for menu and back buttons.
Now I’m thinking of slapping on a red S3 glass panel on top of the existing white one. Haven't thought about what glue to use n all, but I think I can figure something out. My main concerns are : would that work? would it affect the touch responsiveness and screen quality?
Since glass screen protectors work fine, I’m guessing adding another glass screen (albeit a bit thicker than those screen protectors) should work too, right ? I’m also a little concerned about how it would look because of the added thickness. Has anyone done this before?

I believe there is a brand called Mercury that has it in red, but it doesn't extend completely to the edges. there's a 2mm gap i think.
@tengtengvn whats there to face palm ? You have heard of glass screen protectors right ? Putting on a new glass panel shouldn't be much different. I'm asking because I see it as a viable option . Any obvious reason why it shouldn't work ??

Thanks, thats the best looking skin/screen protector I've seen so far.But there are few issues with it: The Mercury logo, cutout for proximity sensor seems little too big (would've been better if they had two separate circles instead of one oval cutout). And the red is little too bright. But I'll keep an eye out and see if I can find better photos of it. This might be a better option
unfortunately, you'll be very hard pressed to find an exact liking. I would use www.aliexpress.com for stuff that is found in china. the downside is that it'll take a long time to arrive (2 weeks or something).
You would also need someone who can read mandarin to understand what some of their pictures say.
I had someone here who was very extremely fantastic and nice who helped procure the skins for me.

pictures from ebay - black on black
Looks very nice, got myself one. Almost made me want to have the black One lol
wow. 4 dollars? nothing to lose. ill post about it when i receive it.
BTW transit time from china to U.S. was an impressive 7 business days. It actually looks better in person then the picture I posted.
woah nice find! was looking for a change of case and looks like with this case, the power button is gonna be a lot easier to press than my current Belkin Sheer Grip Matte due to the fact that the plastic at the back of the case is slightly lowered where the power button is. Just ordered one for myself and one for a mate. Thanks for posting.
Thats the ONE for the ONE. I also have it and love it. Very sleek, keeps the phone looking the way it was supposed to.
here's a better picture.
How big is the front lip
Thanks for taking the time to post this I really like it

Barely big enough to cover the glass screen protector. I think if it is any less then it would be without one. This doesn't add any bulge and maintains the sleek look of the phone
FYI I have a red silicone cover without a power button cut out, and the IR transmitter works

Correct, trim is good enough for its purpose, protection when laying flat on face. A thick trim will not protect the screen from any drop to a rock or any edge, and create a false sense of protection.
The case may feel a little loose when you first get it. I recommend heat it up with blow dryer then quickly dump it in cold water to tighten it a bit.
Does it affect the camera flash? The cutout looks close to the flash. I had a Kays case that had a similar opening and the flash reflected glare into the photos.
I just bought a similar case from Amazon which I prefer because it's transparent. However, your pics gave me an idea on how to mod the case because I don't like how there is not a cutout for the volume rocker. I started to make this mod today actually, but one of your pics shows me that I should cut further towards the back of the case which will give my fingers proper room to hit the volume rocker instead of having to use my finger nails :good:

I had a grey transparent case, it was perfect except there were no cut outs. Cutting it wasn't clean so I trashed it.

are other colors available as well ? I'm quite interested in this case
Ordered one for my black One... Is this an easy on/easy off case or is it difficult to remove? I only ask because I ruined my Poetic case trying to take it off because it was so tough to remove.
Seller doesnot ship to India nor UK . Can someone buy it and post it to me ? I will PayPal the money
