Hey guys,I am considering Rooting my Nexus 7(2013) and I was told my one of my friends that while unlocking bootloader if anything goes wrong then it cant be bricked and has to be sent straight to the Service center? But I think there has to be a way to do it,right?
I am all scared right now please help me out and I would really appreciate it

Its Extremely hard to hard brick a nexus. Basically just don't flash anything that is for a different device and you will be fine. How much does your friend really understand about rooting/unlocking? Especially a nexus device which is basically built to be a developers device. Just read read read and fully understand what you are doing before you do it. If you have questions ask and you will learn fast.

Ditch the friend.
Root the Tab. Meet Girls and drink beer while playing He-man.

Fireworks go off. You and the girls jump from a plane and parachute into a party hosted by the Red Hot Chilli peppers. You leave cause the Red Hot chilli peppers are lame.
You don't usually root, but when you do, you do it in style.
The only possible way to brick your device is to erase the boot loader with adb, (which is pretty easy) and then you need a JTAG to fix, or if you can access download mode (only on gnex and n4 I think) you can still in brick it. Nexus devices are made as Dev devices and are not eaisally brickable

Yeah,I read that in a post that incorrect files could do unrecoverable damage but I am sure there is still a way out, right?
Woah, you have no idea how much relief that message of urs brought to me,I knew it would not work that way but I was sure u guys would clear my doubts. Now while unlocking Bootloader and if the usb cable gets disconnected,I am sure the device is bricked, how can I get it up and running?
Basically please tell me one thing when can the nexus devices go completely unrecoverable?
I am still scared,so please be kind enough to help me!

And are JTAG cables very expensive?

Bootloader can be bricked by other means but it's not simply done unless on purpose. And why would you disconnect the cable while unlocking? The unlocking process seemed to happen in the nexus as you have to confirm whit volume up and power button. I can be wrong but anyway don't be scared as it's a fast and easy process.

You aren't actually replacing the boot loader only unlocking it officially, but I'm not sure. Anyway the best thing you can do is to root with this toolkit http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2389107 watch the videos, read the instructions and make sure the cable stays connected during the process.

There's no way you can accidentally knock the cable loose if you're not being an idiot. Just place it on your desk and leave it alone, that thing stays in there fine.
Don't be scared though, you have absolutely nothing to fear if you read over the guides correctly(also get a new friend).

I suggest reading the unlock process a few times before diving into it then go step by step while your actually unlocking your nexus 7. It is one of the easiest devices to unlock you shouldn't run into any issues but in the extremely rare case that you do. You have the xda community to turn to for help. There are some amazing developers on here

Ok I really dont know what I've done but somehow I have made it completely impossible for any pc to recognize my device. I have installed all drivers with no luck. I went on terminal emulator and tried to run some simple adb commands and I get "device not connected."
Im not new by any means nor do I claim to be an expert but I have tried EVERYTHING I can think of and no dice. The only thing that my phone will do when connected to the computer is charge. But I have noticed when in hboot mode the charging light is not lit so I can't say for sure if its charging. Im completely stumped on this problem so I welcome any and all suggestions. Please help!

Yep that's the problem. I just got done putting my phone back together after removing the micro usb connection and saw that the internal part that's soldered to the ribbon is loose. Son of a b%#$#.

Meh, if something like that happens drop it in the "toilet" and tell them you need a replacement. You shouldn't be scared to root your device, you are missing all the excitement of flashing and testing new roms and thinking you bricked your phone when it goes into a boot loop and all that fun stuff. Give it a go!

Dropping it into the toilet assumes one has insurance (and even then a deductible applies). Standard warranty wouldn't cover water/accidental damage.

True, but I was being a little sarcastic. I was really nervous about rooting my device especially reading all the "I'm not responsible if you brick your phone." disclaimers. But after a few days of reading on the forums and going over the tutorials I decided to give it a go. I am not the least bit sorry that I did. But, I only paid $75 for my phone so if I bricked it I would not be out a boat load of money. I really do like the freedom of a rooted device. If you do decide to give it a go, I followed Prototype7's tutorial like it was the bible and had absolutely no trouble.

I've been rooted and back more times than I should admit. It is really FUN to root and flash Roms. It's also nice to not be FORCED to have things installed that you don't want installed. If I don't want "Let's Golf" installed, I want to be able to remove it. It's just the cautious side of me that keeps me on stock, in the event something physically happens to the phone.
Just do what I did, get a micro SD card adapter, slap it in your PC and slap the stock PG32IMG.zip on it then load into hboot
Then send back for a replacement and root your new phone

Hey guys . I Picked up a three month old galaxy this morning. I have had problems rooting before but always managed to fix them but this I cannot figure out. Here is exactly what I did and what happened.
1.First I rooted my phone using GalaxyS3RootUSCanadaMac.
2. Downloaded the following, superuser, ezunlock, and rom manager.
3. Flashed clokworkrecovery through rom manager.
4. Unlocked the bootloader with ezunlock
5. Tried to reboot into recovery via clockwork and it would just hang and never reboot.
6. Decided to do a restart , so I clicked power on the right hand side and selected restart.
7. Fell asleep and woke up to a dead phone.
I cannot get it to boot at all , not even in download mode. I get no lights or vibrations when trying to boot. If I remove the battery and hook the usb cord in I get a red light at the top but not with the battery in.
Any info on what I might have done wrong or what I can try to do to fix it would be great.
Thanks in advance guys.

This is completely inapplicable to the i747m, and the reason your phone's bricked.
Unless you can somehow get into download mode, you're going to need a JTAG to recover it.

Any suggestions as to how I can fix this?
On another note, is it possible to erase ALL my info remotely while my phone is in this state?
I'm concerned about my privacy and wanted to make sure all sensitive material is wiped before I send it off to get swapped out.

Did you flash a ROM/kernel for a different phone?
If it says something like qhusb when you plug it into the computer, you probably can't wipe any of your info off of it.
Take the battery out for a few minutes then put it back and try turning it on.

Just another quick question,
If they cant fix the hardware, do they just smash the motherboard/phone?
Because in my case its probably a bad motherboard or some other hardware component

No they use pieces for another "refurbish" phone believe it or not, 9 times out of 10 theres nothing they can't fix, unless u really damage the hardware, it's very hard to kill the motherboard with software, u may render it unusable, but with there system it's just a matter of connecting it, wiping everything and flashing a stock img back on the device, in effect - new screen, new img., new plastic= "refurbished" phone lol

Pull something off the motherboard. This may/may not work to get it replaced but will most definitely brick it.

I woldnt advise that at all, on my nexus 7 2012 I was popping the back off and my screwdriver slipped and knocked a resistor off the motherboard (making my GPS not work). I accidentally erased my bootlader a few months later and when I sent it in to warrejty they rejected it due to "customor induced hardware damage".

My intention of suggesting omapflash was to unbrick your phone, not to brick it . And as for the headphone port, according to ifixit, the headphone port and speakers are easy to replace(http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Samsung+Galaxy+Nexus+Teardown/7182)

I have same problem, cannot flash to stock, how to solve this. Thanks in advance

Eh nobody find a solution for the moment
@fracama87 Then instead of the headphone port, try using omapflash. Enjoy your Moto G

Ok, this might sound weird, but I have to brick my Rooted, S offed, GPE Converted M8. There'e no RUU yet for returning to stock, so how do I completely brick the phone?
Preheat oven to 350F. Bake for 5 minutes until it becomes golden brown in colour.

Ok! I'll try that! - Sarcasm
In all seriousness, I don't understand why you want to completely brick the phone. Am I missing something?

Just do a warranty swap, trust me when I say T-Mobile does not care for any of that (as long as you dont have an absurd splash screen or boot aniamtion)
Yeah Im trying to replace the phone with T-Mobile. I have to ship it to them, and I don't want them to find out I rooted the phone and voided the warranty.
Try a 24 volt AC power adapter... Like from an old sprinkler timer. Strip an inch or so off the leads, jam one lead in the headphone jack and the other in the SD slot. Or go between the power port and the SD slot. Or some combination thereof. It oughta brick the hell out of it! I've roasted a few pieces of electronics that way.
Being this is a metal chassis phone, I might wear gloves when you do it. Or hook it up to an outlet with a light switch so you can remote control the fireworks.
Orrr. Flash a ROM for a different phone. I bricked my S4 when I flashed a ROM for the Note 2. Wouldn't even turn on. It was hilarious man

Lmao, that would totally work, as long as it will let you flash it. Hmmm, good idea

It does! Just modify the updater script a bit. I accidentally flashed it and took it to a service center, they had no clue what went wrong. They ended up giving me a new phone. Or, just corrupt an M8 ROM

How do I corrupt a ROM?
Easiest way to brick the phone would be to download a kernel from a completely different device, remove the assert check from the updater script, and flash it. Should brick the phone in no time.

Don't know if it's possible since most recoveries verify the MD5. But editing the important files of the ROM may work. Or, is chrome said, download a kernel for a different phone. Or, a modem. But those will destroy your phone and there'd be no going back.

Yep, that's exactly what I want. For the phone to not even be able to get into bootloader mode.
I don't have to brick it now. I'll brick it when my replacement M8 gets here in a few days. I'll let you guys know what works/doesn't work. Please, feel free to offer any other suggestions.

Can you explain what you're doing? Are you bricking your phone to get a replacement through insurance, or warranty? I ask because I have some problems with my phone and may be interested in doing what you're doing

I'm getting a replacement through warranty with T-Mobile. I called them and told them that the phone wouldn't turn on or display any LEDs, or anything, and that I already tried charging it. And they said that they would send me a replacement for $20. The $20 is to cover shipping to my house and from my house to them, so I don't mind it. But that's only if your phone isn't cracked or water damaged, exc. I do that if/when I hard brick my phones. This time it's because I ****ed up with flashing something, and now my phone doesn't get signal from T-Mobile, and since my phone is rooted, S-Offed, and on GPE RUU, I can't go back to complete stock until an RUU is available for the T-Mobile variant.

So, $20 is all you're paying? Do you know if you're getting a new, or refurbished phone? And please do keep us updated on what happens
