[Q] ICS RUU security fail - update fail - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Pretty new to this but I've deceided to upgrade my desire s to ics. I unlocked to bootloader via the instructions on the HTC dev site(did i need to do that). Went ok but when i tried to update to the wwe ics ruu it failed, came back 'ICS RUU security fail - update fail' error message 155- the blurb saying it could be the wrong rom or it's too big. I've definitely got the right rom. Don't understand. Anyone got any ideas? My phone is locked to the o2 network.
Many thanks. PS it recovered ok.

Search here, then if you can't find you answer post again there, you'll get better responses.

Apologies didn't realise this was in the desire and not desire s forum. posted in a rush. I've solved it now.... it seems htc stock roms can only be installed if the bootloader is locked. I relocked it and it was fine.

RUU update for T-Mobile UK -- no root!!!!

I performed the update on my brand new HTC Hero and I found out I am stuck in the middle of nowhere with no chance to root until somebody fixes the problem. During my reading, I tried almost everything, and the closest I got was to try and flash an update.zip with the original ROM back onto my device. Yet, at the moment of truth just a stupid white triangle with an exclamation mark appeared instead of the other icon meaning the thingh is working. I can't wait to root for a number of reasons, if I am getting this wrong and there actually IS another solution please help :-((

Hi mate,
I'm new to the Android OS and just got my hero as well. The first thing I did with it was to update the firmware (as recommended by Orange). Little did I know that this would prevent me from rooting.
I've tried several steps:
1. The One-Step Root Process
2. Flashing an image with the SDK
3. Rolling back to a previous version of the RUU
Nothing works, anyone have any ideas about how to get round this problem or if there's a way to 'un-update' the device, please help!
FYI: I have an HTC Hero on Orange UK running the latest HTC firmware, unrooted http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9VZHT389eR4
Thanks in advance.
if your phone is NOT CID locked (no clue about orange) you can go here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=559622
and download an older RUU (1.76.405.1_R3) and downgrade, then root and upgrade.
problem obviously is that this only works if your phone is not cid locked, or somebody find away to bypass the cid check on the ruu process or finds a way to do this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=559806
on updated rom versions......
Thanks
Thanks for the link, I'll take a look into it.
closing this one as currently it can't be solved.

[Q] Still getting CID incorrect after creating GoldCard

Hello guys,
I have tried to lookup the solution to my problem both on google and at XDA as well however I wasn't successful to find any resolution so I turn to you Android guru's in hope you can help me with this.
I wanted to unroot my Desire and go back to S-ON from S-OFF. I followed the steps on how to create the GoldCard and I successfully created it. However if I download the original RUU in zip file and try to flash it in HBOOT I am still getting the error CID incorrect.
I bought the phone from a retailer here in the Czech Republic and it was supposed to be unbranded and unlocked. However the phone came only with a UK plug so from this I think this phone was supposed to be sold in the UK so there should be installed a UK stock ROM as well. And also is there some way to find out if the phone was debranded? And also one another weird thing. The phone came with installed clockwork recovery. I don't suppose the clockwork recovery is in the stock RUU by HTC.
Thank you very much for your advices!
have a look on turqueys' s thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=814381
a complete tut for cid missing
hope this help
Search for my how to unroot tutorial
Swyped with my Starburst based Desire. Please ignore any typos or grammos.

[q] help needed

I posted earlier today but have got no further at all, can anyone please help me with what ruu i need to return to stock, and how to install it because im getting nowhere fast.
Despite doing all the right things ( I Think), i keep getting stuck at updating signature and get error 140, telling me i have the wrong bootversion, i dont understand what this means, i thought it meant hboot, which is the same for 1.28 and 1.29 i think, and my cid is HTC__001, i presume thats htc europe, 401 roms, which i have downloaded but cannot return to stock ics.
Im having noticeable issues and really want to get back to stock, im desperate for help here, please help....
Before i have no hair left to pull out
If your cid is HTC__001 then you can install the WWE RUU,, however it appears your hboot is of a later version than the RUU you want to install.
What is your hboot version?
The RUU you need to install must be of the same or later hboot.
SOLVED
Thanks for the reply.
Eventually solved the issue, seemed to be HTC SYNC, although i see no mention of this in any tutorials, i found a bit of info on the htc site that said to install htc sync because it installs the drivers needed for ruu, which indeed it did, i had already installed one x drivers from xda of course what people had posted, now that ive downloaded the official drivers with sync it works, hooray.
Was a very odd problem but all good now, i have installed 1.29.401.7, havent installed the latest yet, which brings me to another question -
Considering S_OFF is battering everyones bonce right now, im assuming it is not possible to flash older firmware than what youre running, if developers were to make the stock firmwares into flashable zips via cwm, would they then work ?
I know Mike1986 has done 1 or 2 this way, its just a thought, it would solve a whole bunch of issues for those people that need to return to stock for whatever reason.

[Q] Think Ive F**ked It!!!

Have got a sim-free OX from CPW with a CID of HTC_001.
Have changed the HBOOT to 1.28, unlocked the bootloader, installed CWM and finally instlled Maximus v5.
Only one thing wrong, i've noticed a slight gap at the edge of the screen and have been told to take it back,
Can someone please enlighten me on how to get this back to stock and unroot it (have worked out how to relock the bootloader)
I did relocking the booatloader and then running the relevant RUU but kept getting the 140 error message.
Any help would be fantastic. (that and simple commands)
You can't as there isn't an RUU for the JB ROM yet. Should come soon, though, so just wait until then
