[Q] xda, the powerful website - About xda-developers.com

i found this forun two years ago.
the hackers here are so amazing,
and i can flash the newest rom from here.
but some thing i wnna say is:
why some links are not avalible here.
cause different country?
i don't understand.
but it doesn't matter.

You could contact whoever posted those links and ask them to provide mirrors, if possible. XDA doesn't host most files, except attachments (which are usually too small for ROMs).

ROM topics cleanup???

There's so many different ROM versions, that average human being cannot say which one is the newest or best....
So, why don't create a thread named 'ROM versions list' managed by ONLY ONE responsible person?
It can contain links to ROMS according to date or version, when the newest one will be at the end.
That way the newbies like me will know which one to flash, and it would put end to all this dumm questions like 'which to install' or 'which is the best' or finally 'which one is the quickest'
How do you, guys, think?
There already IS a HTC Diamond ROMs list
But it WOULD be a good idea to sort it by author and version.
Any other ROMs would be moved by mods to this topic.
Exacly.
I know, there IS such thread, but there's lot of junk in it, so it's hard to find valuable information without reading all these replys...
I dream about PURE LIST, ROMs sorted by versions with direct links...
Does anyone too?
Can almighty MOD hear our prayers?
be careful what you say, me and another couple of members raised this issue as we got this responce from a mod:
Most importantly, just READ instead of polluting with useless threads in the development section
i am a member of many other forums and which have multiple versions of software for the same purpose, they have constructed a poll which is of great help to indentify the most beneficial rom for joe blogs. They also have created a better managed thread than the one on this forum for the diff versions.
Maybe its just a lack of management knowledge or a mods opinions, but something needs to be done, there are multiple new rom threads appearing each day, and threads such as this one will only increase is something isnt done.

T-mobile UK official ROM.

Hi, I've tried doing a search but can't seem to find what I'm after. I'm looking for the T-mobile UK ROM just incase I need to send the hand set back if things go faulty. Is there one?
Thanks.
I'm not one for slating someone, as I think we should all be able to help others if we are able to. I hate those people who seem to spend their time slating people with posts just to get their total up, nothing helpful or interesting to say.
If you've got nothing to say, don't say anything.
But you should have done a search this was in a thread started yesterday.
Anyway, enough of my gruumpy old man syndrome, here's a link to an original post with the rom you're looking for:-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=406327
If you'd have read my question, I did do a search!
Where in the thread link does it state ' here is the official UK T-Mobile ROM' ?
T-Mobile MDA Compact IV (Diamond/Victor) stock ROM
Here is a link to my post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2506321
It contains the above supplied link, all the relevant strings to match a basic search - and ironically a premonition of exactly the nature of this entire thread!
All the best with your new device and Happy T-Mobiling.

Xda-Devs sister site - another approach

Hi everyone,
this issue has been discussed for a very long time and to date there is no solution.
The Problem:
Many people are frustrated with HTC-devices (Qualcomm CPUs etc) and would like to switch to other devices (non-HTC devices).
Their fear is to loose the incredible support provided at Xda-Developers. To loose all the custom ROMs, themes, hacks and so on. In my opinion, this site really adds value to HTC devices.
Previous solution suggested: Add sub-forums for non-HTC devices. BUT we all know the problems (stated probably a hundred times by admins and mods).
New solution:
My suggestion is simple. Found a new forum with a similar name or take an existing one, maybe customize the design a bit so it somehow resembles this site).
Then add a small bar at the very top of each page with a list of links in a horizontal row:
Xda-Developers --- WinMo-Developers --- [whatever]
The "Pro"s:
-Everyone asking for additional subforums for non-HTC devices could be forwarded to the new forum. Not to any forum but that specific one. So all people with non-HTC devices would gather in one place.
-Xda-Devs users would notice the bar and (probably) register in this forum as well to have another place to promote their things (for example a lot of stuff in the Dev-and-Hacking section could be used for other devices as well).
The "Con"s:
-Main problem as always...servers, money, committed people (for admin/mod-jobs)
-Some may be annoyed by the bar (although it could be kept very small; 15px or so would do)
-And of course it is up to Xda-Devs users to help in the new sister forum.
But since I know this community and all the amazing, friendly and committed people that belong to it I think many will join the new forum and help with Hard SPL, cooking etc.
I really hope the Admins consider this solution. It is not that hard to realize and nevertheless it would help.
well istarted a site a while ago
winmodevs.com
Yes, I know your site..the question is if the admins are willing to turn my idea into reality. And it also depends on you of course.
i have spoken the admin here and all im willing to say is ive not been told that there wil never be some sort of recognition between boards at a professional level just not yet
i have a link to xda on my homepage already
I´ll wait for the reply of an admin, let´s see.
of course all i was telling you is what they told me
iasked if they wanted to be officail partners and the answer was not yet
I see another big con. It is all about WinMo, so there is vast number of apps which is working on almost all WinMo devices no matter if it is or isn't HTC. How are you going to deal with it? Make double topics on both XDA main and sister sites?
every replication means more coverage and also ex

just wondering (posting roms found by devs)

so today i posted a rom i found on a site and it was taken down. im just wondering how we are supposed to let others know what we find without breaking the rules. this device seems like its development is dead if you look on here on XDA but if you check the rom builder site they have builds that i am sure people would like to know about.
what would be the best way to share the information without getting the post removed?
thanks you in advance for the constructive feedback

Also curious about this. I saw the dirty unicorns thread was closed and was wondering why. My three other phones have dirty unicorn roms available on xda. If anyone can shed light as to why that would be awesome.
well im not the dev who built it and never tried to take credit for the build but it was taken down. i assume it was due to me posting a link to the official site for the build. i would love to help update others to let them know what i have found around the web, but i also want to do it correctly.
DU official builds cannot be posted on XDA per owner's request. Dirty Unicorns requests XDA doesn't make ROM or development threads for official devices.
ok, can we list it in an index without a link?

I wouldn't know. Its always best to contact the ROM developer. They haven't made a thread for a reason. That is what I did with AOSiP. I contacted the dev, made a mock up thread and once he approved how it was worded, posted it.
Perfect I will do that first then.

How do I mitigate fragmented forum categories?

If I post about my problem in a device forum then I'll only get the audience for that device. Some devices only have a few hundred users. This makes xda kinda useless.
But xda is obviously far from useless.
What am i missing? Tags?
Is it that xdadevs tend to stick to very popular devices only?
IMHO, many devices are similar when running the same version of Android. Is it worth having separate forums?
Welcome to XDA @DontReuseUsernames!
It really depends on the information you are looking for. Questions can be very device specific, ie "Why doesn't my camera work?" to being generally applicable to Android "How do I do X with Google Camera App", and for each of these there are different forums to post in.
If all else fails, you can always post to the "General" forum, which is anything else: https://forum.xda-developers.com/f/general.256/
Thanks.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/c/xda-community-apps.3092/ is a useful new category I wasn't aware of.
Perhaps the problem could be improved by making it so that when you subscribe to one forum, you are automatically offered some related tags to subscribe to as well.

Hi, there is a thread at the very top of the about: xda-developers.com section that explains how xda works. If you have ANY questions that are Android related, you can post in Questions and Answers or Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting.
But again, everything is here: XDA New User Guide
Oh and, I also say hello to newcomers (originally iPhone newcomers) in this Post: Hello
Thank you. I'm always grateful. But I also need to tell it how it is and be honest about those beginners links.
Wow! What a mess. Broken image links. A link to a flash file. A 9 year old thread. Links to another thread that 'has been cleaned' and has only one reply ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/new-members-guide-tour-get-the-most-out-of-xda.1282679/ ) Again, more broken links there.
. Not a single mention of
XDA Community Apps
Download Android apps that come from XDA developers and members
forum.xda-developers.com
at either of the links that I've found so far.
Nothing addressing the issue of device fragmentation. Fragmented forums effect even the popular devices. It's just less obvious.
What needs doing is for us to re-index threads by keyword and make a new site linking through to helpful threads. I may well do this myself, depending on how much time I get off over the next holiday and how much I need the info myself. If I get some time to do it I'll update with a link here.
