What are the advantages of an unlocked bootloader versus a locked bootloader?

Having a device with an unlocked bootloader will let you use an unsigned kernel. This means that you can use any custom ROM that is made for your device.
If your bootloader is locked, you can only use kernels signed by the manufacturer, meaning, you can only run stock firmware.
Why would you create this thread in the Development forum?

I didnt unlock the bootloader of my last phone and I rooted it and flashed EVERY rom.
I want to flash rims and stuff but I got to unlocked the bootloader of my new and I don't want to.
If my last phone's bootloader was locked p, why can't the Play stay locked?
You don't need an unlocked bootloader to root (for most roms). You do need an unlocked bootloader to flash to the boot partition, seeing as the PLAY has no dedicated recovery partition. As such, no roms that require a different kernel will work on a locked bootloader

Your bootloader did relock, the yes is telling you that your bootloader CAN be unlocked, this is normal. As for the nandroid error, it failed because you cannot rewrite the boot image after you have relocked. This is fixable though don't worry, just flash stock firmware using flashtool
How do i know
How do i know is my bootloader is locked or unlocked coz member in here said like this Bootloader unlock allowed - Yes << this means that your Bootloader is Locked
Bootloader Unlocked - Yes << this means that your bootloader is unlocked.
So base on it mean my bootloader is still unlocked, But u said is locked? so can some one tell me how to double cross check my bootloader is locked or unlock

Xyge my phone posisiton is stuck on Sony logo and i'm will flash the official rom using flashtool so it's mean my kernel will be stock one. So should i try to flash again the kernel or try other thing?
you cant update your phone to pc companion when your phone is unlocked.
Sorry, I don't understand what it is you want to accomplish here. Do you want to just fix your phone and re-lock your bootloader?
I just want to relock my bootloader

After i'm relock i just want to know how to make sure my phone is locked or not.

Open flashtool and connect your phone in flash mode. On the screen look for "bootloader status:" or somethings similar. If your bootloader is locked it will say ROOTABLE or if your bootloader is unlocked it will say ROOTED.
If your bootloader is unlocked you cannot update from Sony PC direct and if you phone is locked Sony will allow you to update the phone

Actually thats not right. If you relocked the bootloader it will go back to Bootloader unlocked allowed: Yes and not stay at Bootloader Unlocked: Yes
When you try flashing that bootloader relock in flashtool what happens? I have used it many times with my LT26i with no issues. Can you past the log from flashtool when you try to flash it?
I'm about to trade for a LG G2. I'm wonering if the bootloader is locked, or if there is currently a root procedure, and can a custom recovery be put onto the G2 to flash custom roms?
You are at wrong session. But yes g2 has locked bootloader and exists root procedure.

oops. just noticed that, sorry. thanks for info. g pro has unlocked bootloader right? or atleast an option to put on custom recovery and flash custom roms?
No problem you are welcome no gpro doesn't have unlocked bootloader u can bypassed with Loki.
Hi ive just unlocked my bootloader installed custom recovery, su and custom rom now do i lock the bootloader or do i leave it unlocked
Thanks
I would just leave it unlocked. It allows you to install other custom ROMs in the future, and more recovery options if things ever go wrong.
Not much benefit to having it locked, other than you need to relock to run RUUs (if s-on).

I'm wanting to go custom but do I really need s_off and supercid or can I just unlock boot loader and be happy lol. I'm using a UK m8
No need S-Off
What you need :
The device now on Marshmallow firmware 6.xx.xxx.x
Unlocked Bootloader
Latest TWRP
Custom ROM

I think you are confusing custom ROMs with stock (HTC) ROMs (RUU).
Custom ROMs (as mentioned): s-on if fine, just need unlocked bootloader, and custom recovery TWRP
Stock/official ROM (RUU): If you are changing carrier/region versions, you need s-off and change the CID (or SuperCID). But this is not recommended nor necessary for most folks (only suggested for experienced users, with the proper circumstances).
