Hi All
Im trying to do a wipe data/factory reset so i can install a new ROM but im running into a major problem, my wipe data does not work i have tried from the settings menu and also from CWM Recovery but to no avail all of my apps are still there and all saved settings widgets etc
i'm currently on Fox hound 1.2 and have CWM maguro touch 5.8.0.2
Galaxy Nexus UK GSM
Any Ideas
A wipe will not erase the contents of your "sdcard" partition on the GN. Are these the files that you are seeing?
Thought I would just try and change ROM anyway to see what happens I went for foxhound 0.2 and works OK but I can't open up the ROM control settings it just force closes every time
Did wipe from CWM recovery first but all of my apps are there with their relevant data along with Google, Facebook and twitter accounts
Will changing the kernel help?

You could always try wiping through ADB. See if that fixes your problems. If not, I'd say reflash your recovery maybe?
I've tried to reflash the recovery hence why I have the touch version but it didn't do much and I'm guna sound very much like a noob and I probably am but how do u wipe thru adb and will I lose things like photos and music on the sdcard??

Well.. I think it might wipe everything, so you could just pull /system/media (virtual SD card), and then wipe, thus keeping everything on your SD card safe. Go to this site and follow the instructions (setting up SDK, etc.) If you don't have ADB/fastboot. But you would have to have it right? That's how you got rooted? Or did you just root it using the Gnex toolkit? If so you can wipe your data partition through the toolkit as well. Link and Link
I used a toolkit on my lapdog so It will have to wait until I get home I will report back in a few hours,
unless I can do anything without the use of a laptop?

Yeah, you have a very unique problem, that I doubt you could fix without using a computer... I mean, your data wipe doesn't work? That's just crazy...
I'm on the same boat. Not a nu-b either, but I just want to factory reset and it's not happening. Will try with toolkit right now...
Complete pain in the arse all I wanna do I just enjoy the new ROM juicy goodness nice to know I'm not the only one with this issue cheers man

hi diggs I've managed to sort the issue but it takes time with the lap dog
1. Download wugfresh gnex toolkit or one that you are comfortable using. MUST HAVE STOCK FIRMWARE in with toolkit!
2. Backup all personal files onto a folder in the computer I.e pictures, video's etc ya know the important stuff
3. Flash stock firmware and unroot and possibly re lock boot loader this will return phone to how it was out of the box and completely factory reset
4 from here you can then unlock boot loader and root just follow all of the steps the toolkit tells you
5 finally flash any from you desire transfer all the personal data back to your phone
Unfortunately the data from the apps cannot be recovered and also the messages but your contacts would have been backed up via your Google account
I will find the post with the toolkit and re posy shortly

Not sure what you're describing as your problem but I'd first flash the newest clockwork mod version 6.0.1.0.

Ok I think what you're asking is how to install a rom in recovery? Depending on how fresh you want your install, you can wipe data. But then you want to wipe cache (change selection with volume keys and select with power button) and wipe dalvik (under advanced) then select install rom from sd and select the Rom you downloaded .

I accidentally wiped my rom off my Maguro Galaxy Nexus.
Now its stuck on the bootscreen and I need help on how to push a ROM zip file to the phone because i dont have one on it.
use adb to push the zip..
Use wugfresh tool, it will automatically install stock on blank nexus.

Use adb to push it through the recovery (I'm assuming you have a custom recovery installed)

Ughhhh another toolkit answer...
Just download the fastboot files, extract them. On the bootloader enter this command from the extracted folder with fastboot.exe inside the folder - fastboot flash system system.img
Reboot and your good to go

How does one "accidentally" wipe the ROM from their device? After purposely wiping mine to ensure clean partitions, accidentally seems like a long shot.

huh - no, it won't. twrp has one option to format /data (but not /data/media/), and another one to wipe /sdcard/.

Only if you hit "wipe internal data" Lol... Factory reset and wipe system are the only two you want to use

ADB Side load > ADB push.
If you take the time to learn ADB it will save you time and trouble in the future. Plus, toolkits only cause problems.

Hello all, weird problem. I've tried numerous times to wipe my phone to reinstall CNA 3.6.6. I'm running the latest CWM.
I boot into recovery and do a factory reset and wipe/data/cache/system. All the prompts show that the phone is being wiped etc... Then I reflash the ROM and Gapps. When I reboot its as if nothing happened. It seems like the Full wipe did nothing. Any ideas? Really perplexed!

Best to just flash back to stock. Format internal SD while you are at it just to be sure.
You still have GNex toolkit installed on your PC right? Download and flash the stock ROM, format internal memory and start from scratch.
Disregard this post.
Thanks. I'll give it a try.

This happened to me last night. Was on jbsourcery, wiped, flashed aokp and it wouldn't boot. Reflashed jbsourcery and it booted as if I never wiped it.
Had to unroot and start over but ran into some issues and am stock for the time being.

try twrp recovery. it could be an issue with cwm most likely. its a shame if you went through the process of flashing the factory image and reroot if its just an issue with that recovery.
I haven't done anything yet. I'll give TWRP a shot soon. Thanks!

easiest way to install the latest twrp.. install goo manager from the play store(free), press menu(3 dots top right), press install openrecoveryscript, press yes, let it do its thing, and you are done.
Yup, just did it. Gonna back up some things and flash a new ROM. Thinking about going from CNA 3.6.6 to 3.8

Installed CNA 3.8 with TWRP but its all down hill from there.
Now stuck at "android is updating". My phone never gets past that screen. Numerous battery pulls leave me stuck at the "x" boot animation. Only access I have is to recovery. Did I just brick my phone?

Flash a prior nand if possible.
I made a backup when I was on CWM. I'm now on TWRP and can't find it the backup.

You could adb push cwm back and restore the backup. But to be honest I would go back to stock and wipe the sd if I where in your shoes.

I was able to push CWM but when I tried to restore a backup, I got a md5 mismatch. I'm thinking about going back to stock to start over BUT is there anyway I can retrieve my personal data? Thanks.

I remember there is a computer program called android commander. You might be able to use that to get the info but tbh I really don't know. This is the issue about not having a removable sd card
Problem solved. I was able to adb pull what I needed and returned to stock. Phone is working now. Thanks.

Flashing stock would definitely get you out of it.
Simple search for stock rooted Roms will give you what you need.

NP.
You lose custom recovery flashing those files. You retain root though so you can just reflash a recovery and than wipe if you didn't want to wipe through stock recovery.
