I think I may have stumbled onto a solution to our dreaded quiet phone that doesnt notify us of a SMS or MMS and possibly email when the phone goes to sleep or standby. I have searched asked inquired, and beat every search engine and found absolutely nothing. So being frustrated of seeing msgs pop up when I hit the power button to wake the phone up I went hunting and I think I found it. I tested this all of today and so far I havent missed one yet, and normally I miss at least 3 a day. Its still in a testing phase so I DONT guarantee this works, but with some feedback with others, it might be the solution. I did alot of comparing with my other phones and my 8125 and 8525 had a different value so i changed it to that value.
I have made it a cab file so that anyone who wants to try it can uninstall it if it doesnt work, I suggest a soft reset after making this change. This changes the following location:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL]
"DisableSMSWakeUpEvent"=dword:00000001
to
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL]
"DisableSMSWakeUpEvent"=dword:00000000
Good Luck! And if it works or doesnt, please leave feedback of either thanx or didnt work, like I said so far its working on my att tilt 2 stock eu rom 1.86
Nice one, but its already been solved here.

Well at least its here, I know there is a ton of posts going around in here about this problem, and I did munerous searches, but obviously if you dont get the right keyword you'll never find the post.
so what does this do? light the screen up everytime there is a message? or basically just solve the problem of message not ringing in sleep mode?
Basically it does the same thing it did with the 8125 and the 8525 when a msg comes in the screen wakes up from sleep, so far (I thought) I might have found a solution, but it seems I was beaten to it.
So far there isnt a solution found yet of the alert coming thru without lighting the screen up as far as I know.
yea, i thought it lights up the screen when msg comes. I have a habit of putting the phone to sleep without locking it, so it might cause problem when i put it in my pocket as i receive message more than calls.
Thanks anyway mate

Yeah but if you have the end key setup as a long hold it will lock the screen to prevent that accidential tapping of the screen. Unless you have a modded rom then you would have to see what key it is. But hey for me its better then missing a msg.
Hi AngelDeath,
Just wanted to say thx for this one -I realise this thread is old, but it's sorted my no sms alert issue on my HD2. It had been driving me nuts for ages!
This is one of those problems that was always there but wasn't big enough for me to remember to comment about. Now it became big enough.
I was at a wedding over the weekend. Priest comes in before the service starts, remind people of a few ground rules and remembering to turn off mobiles. I had my phone on a meeting profile (basically something from my Nokia days - a very quiet beep for notifications and no vibrate) but I thought, what the hell, let me just turn it off completely.
So I did. Phone off. To the inside jacket pocket it went.
Wedding service starts. Bride comes in. Everyone sits. To my embarassment, on sitting I hear the Quietly Brilliant intro jingle. I'm think a combination of WTF and "Oh for **** sake!"
The Desire is waaaay too easy to turn on! It should definitely be a long press to turn it on not a regular tap which can happen at any time. I ended up putting it back on my meeting profile as that was a safer way to keep it quiet. This shouldn't have to happen.
I've thought that too. Fortunately not had any issues like that but do agree. I think this will be fixed when silicon cases get here in abundance!
It annoys the hell out of me too.
If you turn the phone off in silent mode then you don't get it when you turn back on but you need to remember to do that,
I think there is an app that does this automatically - sure someone will post the name of it...
Silent Boot is the answer to your problem.
please stop, this got to be the most stupid post i ever seen on any forums....
a phone thats to easy to start, ROOOOOOOOOOOOOFL
would've been easier to leave it on silent than turn it off...

Hhmmm. Deliberately misunderstanding the point of the OP topic? I read this and sympathised, have had a few instances myself when phones have turned on in awkward situations myself.
Appreciated the answer. Have installed Silent Boot and am less worried I might get caught out in future.
As to the last posters comments - why waste your time and ours if you are not interested in the thread? maybe you just like reviewing form threads... if that's the case allow me to rebirth your post.

I was tempted to simply diss this individual but let me just politely respond.
1. If this is the most stupid post you have ever seen, then feel happy you only read post written by like-minded people.
2. It would also seem that like-minded people to CerB would believe that design concerns like turning on and off a device are non-concerns. In the current market, let's be honest, there is a huge amount of overlap in smartphone function. And Apple have shown that even selling a sub-par phone can be successfull when you do things like make a "tiny" thing like how the phone transitions from screen to screen a pleasure.
I'm guessing if you CerB were a boss, and someone came to you to spend time making screen transitions really slick, you would have sacked them.
3. What exactly is "ROOOOOOOOOOOOOFL"? I understand ROFL, but not what you put.
As zzleezz indicated, there was really no need for your post, or the tone. But, like I seek to get on these forums, maybe you can get educated.
Maybe ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOFL was him falling down the stairs?? lol!!
download the mute app off the market.. mutes everything.. in one touch, also if its activated and you turn your phone off when it reboots it does not make the startup sound. not perfect but an easy workaround.

That's how it should work.
However, I don't think that this solves the topic starter's problem completely. Silent Boot will mute the bootup sound but, since your phone is on, you will get notifications of other events such as text messages, as Silent Boot will turn up the volume again after boot (although that might happen only if the volume was turned up before shutting down). So, you might still disturb wedding ceremonies with those notifications.
I had a Hero beore Desire, and find it quite annoying that they decided to place the powerbutton on top of the phone. When I put the phone in my jeans pocket, or when I take it out, it turns on the screen and I have found it to starting apps and all kinds. On the Hero the powerbutton was much better placed, imo. Not quite the same thing as OP, but related to the powerbutton, and how easy it is to accidentaly push it.
Only issue with SilentBoot is that it restores your previous settings after boot, so your phone can turn on silently without you knowing, then your awesome ringtone can steal the show instead of the boot music.
That works around the sound, but not the issue of the phone being very easy to turn on. The button placement is pretty bad to start with, and isn't recessed, so is very easy to press accidentally. I had mine turn on on a plane - cue lots of "there's always one" glances from nearby passengers... I wonder if this is something that could be tweaked somehow if there is some flash setting for a dwell time on the power button.

Probably (hopefully) a really stupid question with a simple answer, but I have one annoyance left with my HTC One X. I use the calendar function a lot and so whenever a reminder pops up, which I dismiss, it then open up a separate screen asking me if I want to create a note. My issues with this is:
1) I cannot understand why, when I've been reminded of a meeting or task to perform, I would want to create a note on it? Why does this feature exist.
2) How can I disable this?
I've been putting up with this since Feb, but no more, so hopefully some bright spark on here can enlighten me :fingers-crossed:
Thanks

I have a similar problem, have you experienced the Reminder coming up, and now matter how much you "Dismiss" it, it'll just pop straight back up, you experienced that?

Very annoying mate, the only way to dismiss it, is either go onto the computer at work, and dismiss it their on Outlook, or to unlock the phone, dismiss it about 50 times and close the notification etc, then it decides whether to go or not !
Whenever I make or receive a call, I see my in-call volume at maximum level! I don't understand why it keeps doing this? I noticed this problem on all 3 of note 2. I keep adjusting to low but randomly just gets reseted to max again. Anyone else having the same issue with T-Mobile Note 2?
Update: finally found the culprit of this problem. The app "Tango" video chat messes with the in-call volume. Once account & app was uninstalled even after the reboot in-call volume setting never changed. Everything stayed as I left it and no more random MAX in-call volume.
Video to show what Tango is doing to my in-call volume.
Nobody has this issue? how come all 3 of my Note 2 has this issue =/
Anyone?
Sorry, this doesn't help but I usually keep my in-call volume at max so I haven't noticed this.

Thanks for the reply. I don't know how you keep the volume at max.. maybe it's just my phones but it's too painfully loud for me.
Would you mind trying to lower the call volume to lowest setting and restart the phone? See if the call volume goes back to max, I would really appreciate that.
For whatever the reason, the volume setting is not getting saved. So annoying since everytime i answer a call, it's trying to blow my eardrums out!
I'm guessing nobody has this in-call volume issues on their T-mobile Note2? Should I be considering an exchange....??
Just FYI multiple post saying anyone? Anyone? Pple just find annoying. Not trying to be rude. But from what I noticed from posts from other forums. Is when pple do that. They will never receive help or a reply from someone. Especially when the OP keeps doing that all in the same day.
Sometimes if you want help. You need patience. Especially here on xda. Pple here don't live there lives to help you. Right when you make a new post. Sometimes it could take days or even a week or two. But I'm positive if you don't do multiple post like this. And wait or even search the web. Even user a different phone. You will find ur answer. Remember google is ur best friend.
Anyways I don't no if its because of my rom or not but mind keeps going to vibrate and I have to keep turning it back to sound + vibrate
Oh ya you also have to be detailed when asking questions. Are you rooted or not. Stock or flashed a rom. Which rom. ...you get the point. The more you tell use the more likely a chance someone will help you. If you choose not to look it up urself
My bad, wasn't trying to be annoying or anything. I searched around in many different forums but still no answers and didn't get any replies on this issue, even the t-mobile support didn't know what was causing this issue. I guess I was running thin on patience.
I'm running all on stock and all 3 devices does this. T-Mobile sales rep said maybe it's part of the feature.. But we all know that's b/s. Changing in-call volume randomly doesn't sound much like a great feature to me....

Ya unfortunately that sucks. If you were rooted I would say try to flash a different rom. But since ur not my best guess would be to search around for an app that has something to do with volume/ in call volume. There's an app for everything these days. Ur just gunna have to read all the details in every volume app you can find. I'm sure there's something. Good luck. If you happen to find something. Post it hear in case others run into the same problem as you in the future.
Am I the only one with this problem? I wish some of the same device/carrier users would give me some feedbacks so I can figure out what to do....
you talking about in call volume or ringer volume? if its in call volume im pretty sure that if i lower it during a phone call it stays that volume even on the next call
im not 100% sure though...and im not sure if it stands through a reboot but i am pretty sure...cause i dont leave my in call volume on max because it is quite loud and distorted...if it always went back up to max i probably wouldve noticed..again not 100% sure

It's the in-call volume. I have no idea what's causing this... When I lower the volume it will stay that way only for that call and next call or sometimes even during the call volume goes up to max randomly. It's driving me nuts cause it's so loud and I can't even answer the call without worrying its gonna blow my eardrums!
I tried restoring factory but that didn't help and all three of my Note 2 do this so I'm lost here. Not like I rooted and modified anything, all is in stock.
Would you mind trying to put in-call volume to lowest and rebooting the phone? See if it goes back to max by default. That's how mine is set to every reboot.

Try rebooting, see if that setting sticks.
It does this all randomly. Setting will stay that way for awhile and all of sudden max volume.

yeah..volume went back to max after reboot
try this
go to dialer -> call settings -> my call sound...there are 2 options that might help you...one for sound settings (maybe choosing one of them will help you) or personalize call sound..that one asks you to plug in ear phones..im not sure what happens after you run that test and if it only applies to earphones but you can try it

Why would it do that... It's not suppose to. I never had that issue with ATT Note, N7000 and i9300... I get the feeling many people just don't pay too much attention to it and when it does go up, people just lower the volume and forget about it.
Whatever the reason setting of the in-call volume isn't being saved. And something is making it to go back to default. Just don't know what though...
Keep your eye on that volume, and check if it goes up randomly.
P.S. I really appreciate the replies, been waiting for awhile.

Yeah, I really didn't want to annoy anyone but this little bug was driving me insane. Spending hours with T-Mobile tech supports weren't even helpful either. I hope it isn't a defective unit... Please let me know if you notice this issue! Thanks again =)
I think I found the culprit. Seems like "Jays headset control" app was causing this issue. It was never an issue on any other device but not sure why it's causing on note2. I uninstalled the app yesterday and so far problem hasn't come back yet. Time will tell but so far so good.
Thanks for looking and replying to my post. I can finally relax!

Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
I've been lurking around XDA for a while looking for a good build about the new CM12 for my i317m and Ive decided to get yours.
You seem to give a good feedback concerning bugs and etc..
I am currently running the latest snapshot of CM11 while writing these lines and I have been pretty satisfied with this ROM so far.
Im an heavy user of my phone since i use it to almost everything concerning my job (highway trucker) so, i believe ill be able to give you the best feedback for the developlement of this CM12!
Ill keep you updated!
Ive CLEAN flash cm12 in my note 2.
First thing first, it looks absolutely amazing!
But first bug that ive encountered, Netflix.
It just wont open.
For the rest, ill keep you updated!
Ok, here's a MAJOR DEFECT on my day 2.
The phone keeps rebooting in this particular order; 3 soft reboot and normal reboot.
And it's keeps on going like that non-stop.
The GPU is ****ing hot right now, dunno if this might help but I'm going to flash the old cm11 on it; im just unable to use the phone...
Keep me updated, thanks.

There's an issue with CM12. Right now until a fix is done, you need to keep Wifi turned on.

Don't think there's a need for the info. It's a known issue. Fixes are in progress. That's pretty much the last major issue left. Camera, Data, GPS
all are working.
***** And it looks like he's posted an update with the fix .......
I was just wondering if y'all have tried the 12/20 build... It should help fix the wifi crash/reboot issues. (edit: Sorry disksteele... Didn't see your red text... I really should start paying attention before posting... lol)
When using the gps, the phone will run hot. It shouldn't get hot enough to do any damage in most conditions, but if you're using gps while charging with the phone in your pocket or on the dashboard during a sunny day with the heater on... Who knows... Good luck!
Have a good one!

Actually... It's a commit by Gianmarco Reverberi that's been merged into the cm-12.0 code that fixed the reboots. Change-Id: I6c46ed1eb45a45df2e89646f472a649dc4a99319

Hey guys,
Ive given a new chance to this ROM and ive gotta say that it runs pretty great!
However, despite a minor bug at the charging logo, ive hit 2 bugs that kinda annoy me.
-Netflix: stay on the opening page and calls a fault code after 5 mins.
-Music while plugged on headphone/car audio jack: songs just stops to play all of a sudden for no apparent reason.
Anyway, this build is pretty great while waiting for the official update.
Thanks for this beauty!

I think there's a drm issue with the lollipop builds for now preventing Netflix from working... But I could be mistaken.
The headphone issue is probably the same "OK Google" issue that popped up in the KitKat builds. Disable "OK Google" in Google Now/Google Search and see if that helps with media playback through headphones. Good luck!

Thanks for the quick reply! Ill be trying this out tomorrow while Ill be on the road!
For the record, ill point out something real quick that did happen to me yesterday.
Ive been going kinda far away from civilisation to go at my Xmas party. Ive got to mention it because I wasnt able to get my data from time to time.
Got to mention that went i was stock on my phone, everything was normal. I wasnt getting a full signal but my data was on all the time.
It is possible that Ive got to a shorter signal range with this mod?

I have found that the lollipop builds are slow to switch from LTE to 3G or below, so there can be a fair bit of data interruption while LTE signal is low or drops out. In some areas around me, I have to manually change to 3G in order to have a stable connection, because the LTE signal isn't strong enough to remain stable, and the phone wouldn't switch automatically to the stronger 3G signal.
Have a good one!
Here's a little update concerning certains bugs that Ive mention above.
Music player:
Even with "Ok Google" turned off, there's still a noticeable glitch while a song is playing. After 2-3 minutes, the song would just pause itself. Ive even tried playing with the equalizer (Audio FX in this case), turned on or off, the result stays the same.
Data loss:
Changed manually to LTE to 3G that it worked. I had to wait 2-3 minutes before having it back tho.
Hope this helps!

I flashed CM12 quite a few times already. Here are the problems that I have been facing.
Email app takes a long time to sync. And I cannot use corporate account.
When I touch something, the running application would be interrupted quickly like flipping the lights on and off.
And most importantly, the audio on the phone is too low. I tried many ways and could not get it to go higher. I can't even carry a conversation on it.
So now I'm back to my old rom.

I flashed CM12 quite a few times already. Here are the problems that I have been facing.
Email app takes a long time to sync. And I cannot use corporate account.
When I touch something, the running application would be interrupted quickly like flipping the lights on and off.

Gotta admit that Ive been facing the same issues right here and Ive got some more to add on, unfortunely..
Navigation with Maps/Waze.
I better use it the old way which means, directions by directions. As a trucker myself, this is really annoying since my deliveries depends on it.
Incall volume.
It's low and to fix it, you have to go out of the phone app while calls is still on, get the volume up to keep going. Still dunno if my voice is okay on the other side.
Data/signal loss.
You don't have to go really far away from big cities to complety lose all lf your signal bars.
Plus, the fact of losing data pretty easily and having to switch from LTE to 3G make thing slightely better, doesn't really helps...
Unfortunately, i really loved this ROM on the first sight and wish hard as hell to give a second chance. But right now, i had to go back to my old one.
P.S.: I am posting these informations to help OP/developers where to look at. I dont want this to be seen as some negative feedback from my sorry ass...
Hope this helps once more!
Gotta say I'm loving this ROM. I'm on AT&T i317, coming from AICP Kitkat, and this thing is definitely a daily driver. Been on it for 3 days now. Good battery life, camera works, video playback is good (except embedded within browser or apps sometimes, but that has always made my phone crash while on Kitkat, on occasion.) In Chrome, I get some "distortion" or artifacts when scrolling up on down on pages where images or video are embedded. Have never seen this behavior before. Baseband is good and strong on LTE. I did notice one or two times where it lost signal for about 15 seconds then reacquired. Netflix is a no-go but I will try crislleen's suggestion and posted link above. GPS seems right on, but I haven't done a turn-by-turn trip yet. Everytime I open Google Maps, it snaps right to my location.
I only needed to clean flash the 12/23 ROM and then applied the sensor patch as mine were not working. But working great after that patch. Netflix patch is next.
Is support for this ROM going to continue? Or was it just an experiment?
Big thanks to all involved in development. Great work guys.
