Phone softbricks every time I flash a TouchWiz ROM - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

I am on a CM 10.1 nightly. Every time I try to flash a TouchWiz ROM my phone softbricks. I have to battery pull, enter recovery, and restore a backup. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks.

Have you verified the md5 on the twiz zips? Are you wiping /system, /data,/cache?

I do wipe everything, but how do I check md5?

Open rom zip file with md5 app from play store. It will calculate the md5. Verify against md5 posted at the roms down load area.

Kernel maybe? Try flashing Perseus then try it

Can't boot past recovery w/deodexed rom

Ok guys I've already successfully flashed the [ ROM ] Stock Rooted EL29 System [ NO CIQ / OS 2.3.6 ] odexed version of this ROM, now I've decided to flash the deodexed version but everytime I apply the zip the phone reboots and then goes right back to the acsrecovery5 CWM5 Based recovery? I'm not very new to this but im pretty sure there's a problem. I flash the odexed version and the phone boots up fine. Any help would be great thanks
Did you wipe cache and dalvik-cache before flashing?

Naturally several times including the pre-rom wipe, pre-theme wipe, and Calkulin's modified format all zip. Odex works fine but the deodexed just wont install correctly. Not sure if it has anything to do with kernels or what.
maybe it was a bad download? I would try downloading again

Yeah that's what I'm trying now...unfortunately all the file sites have stopped file sharing and the two that are still working are VERY slow
Get md5 checker from market. Then you will know for sure if it's a bad download or not.

[Q] Uncompressing rom

Im trying to flash the evo classic rom and it keeps telling me it won't open. I looked at the rom and its compressed so I thought that could be the problem. I tried uncompressing it with astro and it wouldn't work. Does anyone know if I can flash a compressed rom or why my phone can't open it? Currently I'm running myns warm 2.2.
All ROMs are compressed into a .zip you probably have a bad download or you downloaded the update which requires a previous version of classic to be installed check your md5 sum if it matches make sure the rom doesn't have update in the name it should just say classic and the version number v0.0.4 0.0.5 0.0.6 etc
We are legion, for we are many
I'm not sure what the md5 sum is or how to check it. I downloaded classic-v005-01-02-finale-senseless.
I'm not sure if thats just an update or what. Thanks

If you double click the .zip, does it open or say invalid?
if it's invalid, it's a bad download. Re download and try again.
Good luck
Seems to be a full rom.

That's the full rom try redownloading it,you did do a full wipe correct? Make sure you wipe all options except SDCARD and Battery Stats everything else wipe I always wipe everything 3x -5x depending on if I'm switching from sense to aosp or just flashing a different rom

[Q] Not able to flash a rom because missing MD5 file.

Hey guys,
I am having this issue with my BELL note 2. I am not able to flash this ROM ([ROM][2/9] CleanROM ACE 4.5 -★| Unrivaled Performance Stability! | The Clean Way! |★-Like Tweet +1 ) because TWRP gives me an error saying missing MD5 file. But when i try to load another ROM for example the Paranoid Android ROM, i am able to flash it with no problems because i think it skips the MD5 fiile check.
Also the author of the cleanROM ACE 4.5 has provided the MD5 number, but i just dont know how to use it and dont want to do anything stupid that would result a bricked phone.
Link for clean ROM ace 4.5 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1986893.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

No, i did not change any file names.
- saved the rom in sd card
- went to recovery mode, on twrp
- did a factory reset
-installed the rom
- wiped cache and dalvik cache..
i still get the MD5 file missing error......
You missed a couple steps.. go look at the rom op
and cheach again

Another trouble shooting path is to dl the rom onto your computer then transfer it over..
After factory reset,, wipe system then flash rom
md5 tool is missing on Note 2
If you look in the /system/bin folder there is no symbolic link from md5 to toolbox, like there is on other android devices.
Is this your problem?
---------- Post added at 03:16 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:06 PM ----------
If your tool is trying to verify the rom using /system/bin/md5 it will fail because AT&T has removed this command from their build.

(Q) Been Gone For Some Time...???

I was wondering how in the hell do i get updated to all the new updates and such.
Currently i'm rooted with Twrp 2.3.1.0, i used the toolkit back some time ago and game me the option to basically install custom roms and such but never did anything except for a kernel.
So my question is Im still on LJC, 4.1.1, and i'm sick of the pop ups for the install update, and i know its going to fail so i'd figure can i just install a custom rom and it will take care of all that crap like for instance just go ahead and start fresh and install CyanogenMod?

That could be an option if you're looking to move over to AOSP but if you wanted to stick with TW you could always just flash a ROM based off stock 4.1.2, MA7 or MC2.

Okay Well i wiped(factory reset under TWRP 2.5) then did advanced wipe and chose system option; then wiped. Then i had flashed CM10 then after flashed GApps, rebooted and bam into bootloop, and as i typing this i 'm doing the avatar rom and same thing bootloop. also i should mention it skips the md5 check and says there is no md5 file.
Just tried rootbox same thing gets as far as the boot ani then bam sits there

When you say CM 10 I'm assuming you're referring to CM 10.1? If so make sure your using the correct gapps and if you still face issues I suggest redownloading the ROM and gapps through Goomanager, make sure the MD5 match up, and then fully wipe and flash again. Keep me updated.

Ok I see what you're doing. My brother had a similar problem and there seems to be something wrong with the kernel script not running through properly and to fix this you will need to perform a factory reset as the OP instructs BUT I would try it twice. Once before the flash and another after the flash. Try it and if that doesn't work try the same steps with a 3rd party kernel. Flashing a kernel after the ROM is not recommended but if it helps to boot up the phone then you'll know it was the stock kernel. Let me know

Does it bootloop...or have you just been impatient? 1st boots of a new ROM can take a while.
Presuming it is stuck at boot splash...either an unstable build, or a corrupt download are possible. Verify the MD5 of your downloads.

Every device handles things differently, including first boot up times. It can take anywhere from 5-10min. So don't worry about how short Josh's boot up time was in his video. I highly suggest you:
1) Wipe system, data, cache/dalvik 3x
2) flash ROM and Gapps
3) Go back and perform a "factory reset" 3x
4) Reboot
5) Let phone sit at most 15min.
Just do this one final time exactly as instructed and assuming you've tried earlier nighties, if it doesn't boot up by 15 min then you'll know it's the phone and NOT you.

Device will not boot

So I wiped by /data /cache and the delvik cache then installed ROM from sd. Then I tried to install the GApps zip and it didn't work. So i just rebooted the device and it just says Samsung Galaxy S4 and it just sits there. I tried wiping /system and trying again but it doesn't work. I really need help and my device is currently unusable right now. Here is the ROM that i flashed. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2520972&nocache=1

Wiping /system will cause your device to be stuck on the Samsung logo. You have to reflash the ROM. Then grab a signed gapps and make sure the md5 matches. Flash away.
EDIT: Oh didnt read. You may have to odin back if reflashing rom doesnt work.

So I ended up being able to Odin back. I flashed the ROM and Gapps and now I have a sync error with my Gmail. It just says syncing and hangs there and won't sync gmail. Any ideas?
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk
I have tried many things to try to get gmail to sync. It's only Gmail that does it. Everything else syncs fine and it happens on my secondary gmail account as well. Tried restarting and making sure auto-sync is on but it won't sync the gmail at all. This is very frusterating and I cannot seem to find an answer anywhere.
Try deleting the accounts and set then up again.
