How to get app drawer icon on the home screen? - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Does anyone know how to add the app drawer icon to the home screen?
I have attached a link to a home screen image showing the app drawer in the top right corner.

Easiest way is to use a custom launcher such as apex or nova and put it in tablet mode.
For launchers, tablet mode is what they used to call it when the drawer icon was in the top right corner and there was no dock.
It's not used by default even on actual tablets now, at least on the stock launcher.

ya use nova launcher prime

Thank you for the info. Do you know why they have gone away from the tablet mode on the more recent tablets?

Hi. I wonder if any of you can set the page of the app drawer vertically or horizontally? I've been searching and looking but had no clue at all.

Launcher Pro has never done this. I used to swear by Launcher Pro until I tried Go Launcher for a few days, and now I can't go back. I personally prefer a vertical app drawer, but Go Launcher does have the option of either vertical or horizontal.
Launcher Pro's HUGE lack of updates over the last 4-5 months is very off putting! I like Go Launcher, but it's still a little too buggy.
I cant find option to change home screen and app drawer to landscape mode in Go launcher. Can someone plzz guide?

Switched to go recently too. Its amazing. It used to be trash but after a month or two I decided to give it another go and its amazing now. I just hate those ugly tabs in the app drawer, I really don't care to have a task manager and app history in my app drawer.

[Poll] Your solution for the "Rotate" topic

We all know that by default you can activate the rotation of the screen but the main desktop and the App Drawer won't do that. So in few words what's your solution?
Leave it as stock
Use the True Tablet UI Patch
Use a launcher
Use TTUI Patch + Launcher
ParanoidAndroid Rom
Really curious to know what you have done!
I use nova launcher.
+1 for Nova

Without changing the pixel density?
Holo Launcher seems to do the trick you are looking for. Matter of fact, most of the third party launchers would let you do landscape desktop and app drawer.
I use nova launcher , but if u want a stock launcher with rotation Modaco launcher it's a good choise!!!

Looking at these posts looks like no one used the "True Tablet UI Patch" or the stock launcher....
force_enable_rotation=true @local.prop
stock launcher.

yup. the thread title's "Rotate topic", not true tablet UI. for tablet UI, u change it the DPI to 160. but i dont like that. too small screen.
but yeah, this doesn't rotate the lock screen though. not that i can't swipe up/down instead of left/right.......

Actually the topic is "your solution for..." the rotate topic So checking answers looks like most of the people just use another laucher.
But the one you posted in few words is for what? I mean for the way I read your answer this doesn't make anything different than the "rotate" funcion in the notification bar. Or it also allows to rotate the main desktop and the app drawer?

Actually, the funny thing is I have added this mod. It doesn't rotate the time on the lock screen but you still swipe to the right to unlock ... (toward bottom if you were in portrait mode)...no dpi changes or any other mods needed. I'm on rooted, unlocked stock ROM.
What I really wanna know is where I can mod the home screen to scroll continuously...I haven't looked yet. I have the setting on my phone, but haven't played with the N7 enough to find it yet.
I use Apex. Paid for the Pro version of it, over Nova, since Apex offered... less features for the Pro version (in other words, Nova had a lot of stuff in Pro that was non-existent in the free, and I don't like feeling like I "have" to pay in order to use an app efficiently...)
I used launcher.force_enable_rotation=true inside a new local.prop file in /data. I always use portrait mode and a pin in the lock screen, so portrait only in lock screen is fine by me.
My biggest issue was when in landscape, if I went back into home I would have to rotate from landscape to portrait, then back into landscape and if I pressed a button by mistake again, back into portrait.
I tried the change build.prop dpi settings but didn't like tablet UI for this little thing..... and I don't want to squint.
Tried ultimate rotation control which works great, it also rotates the lockscreen, but costs something like £2 after a 7 trial vs what I use now.

So you paid for less features in general out of principal?
Or did Apex have more free features compared to Nova, and the Pro versions equalled things out on both sides?

Yes, sorry for not being clear. That tweak to local.prop is to rotate the main desktop and app drawer, just not the lock screen.
The GUI dpi change tweak it's for a complete tablet ui

another launcher (because the default one doesn't have enough features for my taste anyway)
I don't know why some of your options are listed, like paranoidandroid rom, wtf.
Most custom roms include a landscape launcher. This shouldn't be that complicated. The stock launcher simply doesn't do landscape without tweaks. If you run stock, just download Nova or Apex.
I run EOS and its built in tablet mode with Apex.

Launcher for GN2!

But I don't want to root this GN2 yet because of warranty but enough said I want to change my dpi or just change the size of things and love a good launcher with lots of themes but not any launcher IV tried has abilities to change icon size or dpi...

I hate Go Launcher. It used to be great. Then they switched over to GetJar to download themes, and they have Free to download but pay to use themes. It's a huge mess. I personally like Nova or Apex. Although now that ADW has updated their app, I've been using that. I have to say it works pretty well, though each time I reboot I have to reset it as the default launcher.
I love the stock launcher with a few exceptions; I don't understand why they made the pages a 4x4 grid. The Note fully justifies a 5x5 grid. I wish that the other launchers gave you the ability to quick-scroll between pages in the homescreen and in the dock like the stock touchwiz launcher does.
I changed my DPI to 280 and use Go Launcher with a 6x6 grid and works very well. Now the stock Samsung keyboard and dialer did not scale correctly, but I use Swipe and the Go Dialer.
Adw has gotten as lot better and after a haitus from it I'm back and it's better than it had ever been

Still stuck on Nova launcher. Fast, stable and the backup feature is in the free version. $4 for the pro, gives you message and email counts on the icons, just like TW.

You could simply use one of the toolkits. And if something happens you can use it revert back to complete stock.

Well, I finally invested the time in learning enough about Lightning Launcher. It's really COMPLETELY different than other launchers I've tried, which is what I like about it. I've tried Apex, ADW, Nova and briefly touched GO -- they're all pretty much the same -- all pretty good. Lightning is kind of a big pain to figure out and it doesn't give the option for a scrollable dock, but you can pin, resize, rotate and arrange all icons, widgets and folder labels in whatever way you want, all on a zoomable, scrollable page. You can't really apply themes, but you can make up whatever you want. Your screen is really like a window onto an infinite desktop that you have full control over. It doesn't have the fancy animation options that the others do, so there's not a lot of "Wow" factor for others to see, but I have everything accessible from a single screen that doesn't feel too cluttered with icons. Lightning is free from Play and doesn't require root.
FWIW, here's a screen shot of my home page -- The two rows of icons at the bottom are pinned as well as the Google search widget at the top. Everything else moves and zooms in or out behind the pinned stuff. If I want, I can place other items above, below, or to the sides and just scroll to them. Lightning does support other pages that you can switch to with a two-finger swipe, and I use them as sort of a sandbox for trying things out, but everything I want is on my main home page.
I've been using atom launcher for a while first on my s2 and now on my note2. It will let you create folders which is nothing new but you can scroll with your finger or with the S Pen. Also you can vary the opacity of the icons on the home screen if you want to keep some what of a clean look. I'll post pics to better explain.

I'm pretty sure I've tried them all, and seem to always revert back to Nova Pro. Its fast, stable, has nice features without be gimmicky like Go and some of the others. Bottom line I want something that works that isn't at burden on system resource, Nova fits that bill.

note 2 launchers

Hello i have not seen a thread about launchers, the only reason i ask is are any of you trying out apex are nova launchers?? what are your experiences with them? are which do you prefer??
I'm using Apex. It's free, simple, and it does what I want. I think Nova would also work for me. I've used Nova on another device, and I only chose Apex on the note because I've never tried it before.
Things I want on my note's launcher:
6x8 grid of icons on the launcher (I like to arrange them in a hex pattern like the old winmo 6.5 start menu)
7 icons on the dock
vertically scrolling app tray because I hate paging.
6x6 grid in the app tray
app tray sorted alphebetically
Losing the special s pen launcher page didn't bother me. It only had the S Note widget on it, and it was easy to put that on another page. It was an excellent trade off for the better use of screen real estate.
press menu on the app tray than choose view type and than choose alphabetical grid
I'm using Holo Launcher HD. I first used it because it was the default launcher in slimbean on my vibrant. I find that the more I use it, the better I like it.
nove prime here. love it.
I use nova too, it's great!
Nova is still the best working one out there for me. Smooth. Customizable. Always end up back at that launcher.

Apex Launcher Pro
- I remove the dock
- 6x6 Home/Drawer
- Gestures
--- Swipe Up; Open Drawer
--- Swipe Down: Show Notification Shade
--- Double Tap home screen for menu
I like the gestures on Apex, helps with one-handed operation.
I know others have gestures, but Apex is the only one I tried, recently,
that the 'swipe up' also closes the app drawer. I swipe up to show it and
swipe up again to close it. Other launchers make you hit the 'home' or 'back'
button again. When you are using the stylus, it's quicker and more efficient.
The styus doesn't activate the 'back' button and I'm not using it to hit the 'home' button.

Launcher without home screen (just the app drawer)?

Does anyone know of a launcher without home screens (just the app drawer) that is compatible with the nexus 7?
I`ve used mihome on my galaxy Ace and somehow it is incompatible. I'm not an apple fanboy but i just like my devices to go to the app drawer immediately.
Any tips? Thanks.

Why don't you just add the apps to your homescreen? Using Apex and setting your columns and rows to 10X10 you should be able to fit a bunch on your homescreen.

Have a large grid and put everything on the home screen. And when you install apps from the play store they'll just be added to the home screen.

Why Didn't I Think of That? lol. Thanks for the tips!:highfive:
ssLauncher. Put anything on your home scrreen. Has an "app drawer" page that can be list or grid. Can hide any apps in app drawer. Can delete all your other screens. Can place icons anywhere (no grid) with auto align feature. Got it "free" with my play money, but well worth $3.69, try the free version first.
