[Q] Developers: How can I help? - Verizon HTC One (M7)

I was one of the lucky ones that was able to unlock the bootloader. I'm currently running CWM as my recovery and rooted stock as my ROM. I'd like to do whatever I can to assist the developers in this community. Please respond here or message me, I'm a programmer in several languages but I know nothing about android development. Even though I don't know how to make roms, etc. I am still very savy and know my way around the command line etc. Thanks, cheers to unlocked bootloaders for all and custom ROMs!

Rooting, ROMs, etc.

Ok, so before I get flamed for not reading anything and just asking questions, I'd like to put this out there that I do know what I'm talking about in terms of rooting, ROMs, flashing, recoveries, etc., but I'm not HTC literate, just Moto. I personally have a Droid 3, but I'm helping a friend root his D Inc and get a ROM flashed.
Anyways, please pardon my Moto slang and fill me in with the right terms. Thanks in advance here!
I know the D Inc is easily rootable. Is there a 1 click or does z4root work? I can use ADB, but for simplicity's sake, I like to keep it automated.
As for the bootloader, he's just an average user and has been using it stock for probably over a year now. Must I unlock it to flash a ROM (I know I don't on my D3, but our ROMs don't have kernels, so...) I'm assuming I need to. How would I go about doing that?
Once rooted (and unlocked?), can I install a ClockWorkMod-esque program to flash ROMs, or do I just use the stock Android recovery? Again, Moto and the bootloaders...
On this topic, do I just use a program similar to a Moto Bootstrapper to create Nandroid backups of the system and whatnot partitions as a recovery?
Is there an SBF (Moto term, way to flash stock software) so that a brick can be unbricked? I'm fully comfortable with a brick, I've done it MANY times to my D3 while flashing any assortment of things (most recently while patching a Bell Canada 2.3.6 build to a 2.3.4 VZW D3).
Finally, what ROM do you guys suggest? I'd like to keep it Sense'd because I don't think that slapping AOSP or some other launcher on there would be the best way to segue him into a rooted phone. Battery life is probably the main concern here.
Well, if you've made it this far without scolding my laziness (and desire to not fully grasp, I have a Moto phone and will be going to a Samsung one sooner rather than later hopefully), thank you for you time and suggestions. I'm hoping to get this all downloaded and set up over the next few days.
Thanks!

There is a 1 click method (unrevoked) if the phone is on android 2.2 froyo, but if its on 2.3.4, there is a little more technical steps involved to rooting and getting s-off.
Yes to flash a rom you must be rooted and s-of with a custom recovery, either clockwork or amon ra.
We dont call them sbf's we call them ruu's. They are PB32IMG.zip files flashed thru hboot, or exe files ran from a pc. They will get you back to stock.
I would go with my rom Touch Of Blue, or jermaines stock+ rom. They are mostly stock with fixes and enhancements.

first off welcome.
ok so there is no 1 click root per say, you will have to do a little bit of work. first what build do you have? gb or froyo:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1306400
that thread will have a lot of helpful information.
as for SBF for htc is an RUU.exe that will bring you back if a soft brick is done. very simple to use.
save this site. it has everything you will ever need for the incredible. system wise that is.
http://pvillecomp.com/
that should get you started.

Slight amendment, it's: PB31IMG.zip
Thanks for the quick answers. I should've mentioned that it is on 2.3.4. I'll do some reading now that I've got some leads and will be back here for at least the next few days!

zte u950 root and custom roms

well i ordered mine from an eshop and as i searched for roms etc i did found that there are some roms root and clockwork for the mid category phone .the problem is that google translate cannot really explain the steps
so if anyone is interested and kind enough to explain the root and clockwork mode i will be glad http://bbs.ydss.cn/forum-zte_u950-1.html
and also add some more languages to the roms:angel:
I'd like more info about that as well.
The price is a steal for a Tegra 3 device.
I mostly care about root, so I can use directory bind, but a rom with european languages (+root) would be more than welcome.
I just got this phone today and there is plenty of roms out there, they just happen to all be in Chinese websites and forums. It took me a while, but I was able to root, add clockworkmod recovery, and start installing different roms. I plan on making a post in the General discussion about it so that anyone who doesn't speak Chinese (myself included) can have some instructions and options as far as roms go. Still on the lookout for a rom that is above 4.0.4, but hopefully I'll find something soon.
the rom does not appear in the setup menu of the flash, could you help me

[Q] Xperia Play r800at Troubles

Hello, I was posting here because I've been having a great deal of difficulty really getting anything done with it. What I'd like to do is either unlock the bootloader, or at least root it to my computer to flash on a new ROM.
In order to root it, I was told to put it in MSC mode, allow unknown sources, and enable USB debuggin, all of which I've done. However, when I go to root it using either SuperOneClick, Doom method, or flashtool, I continually get errors, either saying ADB server is out of date, killing..., or in the case of the doom method that it cannot write any files because they are read only. Somebody mentioned you an overwrite your r800at with an r800i rom to make this work, but the link in that thread lead to some virus (I assume it was taken down a while ago). I put it to a stock AT&T ftf, and still no luck.
My problem lies in the fact that some of the threads I'm looking at are YEARS old at this point, most of the links are dead, and some of the advice is contradictory. I figured then that I could just get somebody to unlock it for money, but all the threads point to alejandrissimo, who I believe is now inactive.
All I would like is to root my phone and put on a new rom, preferably of ICS, with minimal difficulty. I've sunk something like 10 hours into it at this point, and now am the proud owner of a phone with the exact same firmware I started with. I've wiped my contacts like 8 times, and to be honest I'm just getting frustrated with the whole thing. I hate the idea of having bloatware all over my phone though.
So if anybody knows a good way either to root the r800at (and if possible could provide active links to the software), or somebody I could pay to unlock it and skip all this work, I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks for reading, have a good one.
I can't help you with unlocking bootloader (i have r800i with unlocked bootloader), but maybe i can help you with root
You didn't say what firmware are you using, but in general use Doomlord's zergrush method v4 for firmware .42 and below or Eroot on newer firmware (it's on chinese but it have one big button with word "ROOT" on it :silly: )
That is only for rooting and with that you can debloat stock firmware or use ROMs for locked bootloader.
SWM_installer V5 , should work on locked bootloader (once you get root) so you can flash custom GB roms.
To be able to install ICS/JB/CM/MIUI ROMS you must unlock your bootloader because they all don't work on stock GB kernel, and you need unlocked bootloader to be able to flash custom kernels
Here is some links, but i hope R800a users can help you more with unlocking bootloader

First, thank you for the very informative response. Here's some additional info, I am not sure if it will be helpful to you
My current Android version is the stock AT&T 2.3.3 and my build number is 3.0.1.b.0.285. I'm honestly not sure which of these things is helpful, but I'll try that Chinese rooting method. Got a long work shift tonight, but I'll report back later.
Thank you so much, I really do appreciate it!

Help getting functioning cyanogen

Hello,
It has been a while since I have needed to do hard tinkering with a phone. Coming from a Moto X, the HTC scene is new to me.
I finally got the chance and acquired a new phone, a Verizon HTC M9 (himawl). Having read around here and there, info about this particular variant is scarce, but from what I gather, there seems to be trouble with unlocking bootloader, flashing, and installing a custom ROM. Coming from Moto X, I find the amount of bloatware and stock theme in applications/settings completely HIDEOUS.
Also, checking around I see things like S-OFF (security off from what I understand), temp-root, URR, and sunshine (an application from what I gather), and they just keep adding to the things I've read and I don't fully understand.
So to keep things short, I was wondering if someone could help me in what I NEED to get a functioning Cyanogen on a Verizon M9. Also if the bug with camera and bluetooth has been resolved.
1. Can the bootloader for "himawl" be unlocked?
2. Do I NEED S-OFF to flash a custom recovery? If so, can sunshine do it? Do I need to sent it to someone? (Being from Mexico, that can be tricky)
3. After flashing recovery, which ROM would best be suited for my needs (stable, functioning things, no bloatware)?
Sorry for this being long, but wanted some help consolidating all the bits and pieces out there...
P.S.
I dont CARE about verizon apps or advanced calling, as being from Mexico, I dont get ANY benefit from them being there..

No idea if there is cyanogen mod for the m9.
There is an AOSP ROM for m9 - candyrom (Google it)
Yes you need S-OFF or an unlocked bootloader to flash a custom recovery.
For Verizon you have 1 option - sending device to someone with a java card. A little searching goes along way.

Easy method to update to Nougat 7.0

I have an unlocked internation version of the Moto Z Play. I am looking for a simplified method to update to 7.0. Software update has not been pushed to my device. I am not a techie and am new to this. Please point me toward a forum that uses plain english and not ive been developing android forever lingo.
You need to know some lingo to be able to update in any way other than the usual Over the Air method. I'd recommend trying to learn all these terms, it will help you out in the long term.
You basically have to unlock your bootloader and flash a custom recovery, then you can flash any of the Stock based ROMs found in the development section.

I have gone in developer options and unlocked bootloader, but when i boot into recovery all options only restart phone with the exception of barcodes option. This used to be super easy a couple of years ago but now i feel like I need an MIT engineering degree.

As I said, read threads around this forum, you'll get nowhere with that attitude.
