Hi guys, I've been working on a kernel for fun, so I thought I'd share it. The cm10.1 version is based off cm-10.1 branch of team hydra's source. I'm working on a cm10.2 version based off cyanogenmod's cm-10.2 branch. I can't tell you what rom it'll work with, since I mainly use cm10.1, but I'm fairly sure it'll work without problems on other AOSP roms.
Features:
OC/UV to 1600mhz
650ma charging over usb (Yes, it acutally charges when plugged into a computer while in use now..)
UKSM
Always tracking the latest version of Linux 3.0.y
Optimized SHA routines
Dynamic fsync enabled
mmc tweaks
use gnu version of lib/string and memcopy for better performance
Proportional Rate Reduction for TCP
lzo compressed with updated implementation
zram enabled with snappy compression by google
many other low level tweaks cherry-picked from popular kernels for other devices

I'm not really sure. If it doesn't work, I can roll out a version rebased from 10.2 source within a few hours
Seems to be running nicely so far. Oc to 1400 with -50 under volt across the board. Has anyone had any success with lower uv than that? I'm too tired for

The OC/UV is the same used on agat63's kernel and LZ, so you can expect similar results.

Done.
Ok...just tested this for a few minutes. Instantly rebooted after flashing....which I really wan't expecting. Thought maybe I had bricked my phone for a sec since I don't have USB access to my phone BUT nope! Booted right up. Played with the gov's...all worked well. 1600 worked just fine. Had to rebuild my scripts for link2sd for ext4 which I expected. Then the bad news......GPS is totally whacked out. Didn't work at all. I used both of my gps apps and not a single sat was found. Other than that it was great! Had to switch back to stock CM till the GPS is fixed because I'm new to Az and don't know my way around yet. Thanks for the work though!
I'll be checking this out, I'm working on building pure vanilla jellybean 4.2.2 so I'll give this a try once the source finishes syncing and I compile it.

I'll look into the GPS issue when I get off work, because I never use it. As far as the reboot, sorry about that, I'll remove it from the next build.
Next order of business: messing with governors isn't really my thing, but are there any that you guys would really like to have in a kernel? IO schedulers as well?

Classic Sense Kernel
This kernel started out of a request from tommytomatoe to have a stock kernel with sbc optional. So here I present a stock-"ish" kernel for gingerbread. Hopefully this will fill a niche where either the end user who likes the stock kernel, as well as the user who has issues getting custom kernels to run will both have something to flash that gives them that little bit extra without going overboard. There is no overclocking in this kernel, nor undervolting. This is for a stock experience with a few tweaks.
What's in this Stock-"ish" kernel
Stock Kernel 2.6.35.10
Enabled Wireless N
Powersave Governor enabled
Perflock Disabled
HDMI Fix
GPS Fix
3 Point Touch Check
10 Point Touch
Superior Battery Charging (SBC)
Audio Boosted with On/Off Toggle (default setting is on)
Fast USB Charge with On/Off Toggle (default setting is off)
Reduced Wifi Voltage
Front Facing Camera Fix (should work on all gingerbread sense)
CIQ Disabled
Fix for those having issue with hostpot
Enabled EXT4 Support (applied performance patch)
Instructions
Apply with your preferred custom recovery and clear Dalvik Cache/Cache.
For SBC
It seems to help if you wipe Dalvik Cache/Cache.
And make sure the phone is fully booted before plugging it in.
For Audio Boost to turn on and off
Code:
Audio Boost On
echo 1 > /sys/kernel/audio_boost/aboost
Audio Boost Off
echo 0 > /sys/kernel/audio_boost/aboost
Query Audio Boost Status
cat /sys/kernel/audio_boost/aboost
For USB Fast Charge to turn on and off
The below code will toggle it in the terminal, but a cool way to turn it on and off would be to support the original dev who put this mod together, chad0989 by purchasing his widget that controls this version of usb fast charge as well as the patch version. LINK TO WIDGET
Code:
USB Fast Charge On
echo 1 > /sys/kernel/fast_charge/fast_charge_usb
USB Fast Charge Off
echo 0 > /sys/kernel/fast_charge/fast_charge_usb
Query USB Fast Charge Status
cat /sys/kernel/fast_charge/fast_charge_usb

the test kernel is an early version of a custom kernel i am working on, this kernel is stock governor, scheduler, etc.. so its up to you, the sbc should be the same either way... the test kernel had smartassv2 as the default governor and this one doesn't have anything that's not in the original kernel...
also if you guys can do me a favor
just let me know if everything works out right, tried to compile both kernels, get the post up all tonight, so I am hopeful I didn't screw anything up lol
finally! haha the wait for this kernel was unbearable haha. nice work, flashing first thing in the morning

This is the first kernel I've flashed -always been satisfied with stock. UNTIL I read all the recommendations for this one. So I figured now's as good a time as any to give it a whirl! Very eager to see how thingsvturn out. Thanks for your hard work!

EDIT: After flashing this on both my wife's phone and my own, I noticed my location changed to a city that's 45 minutes to an hour away. This happened a long time previously and it drove me nuts. Any idea what could cause this?

franco.Kernel - Linaro Builds
This is a thread solely for the discussion of the Linaro builds of franco.kernel. Franco gave his permission for this thread however he offers no support for any bugs experienced with these builds, please do not PM with his questions about this toolchain. Linaro builds are compiled with a high level of compiler optimization which can introduce glitches into the kernel, these builds are experimental. Feel free to discuss performance, post benchmarks and report bugs. I'll try to keep up with his nightly versions as he releases the source code and compile them with the Linaro toolchain.

I've found a bug, what shall I do?
First of all, make sure this bug does not occur on the non-linaro Franco kernel. Second, make sure it's not caused by your rom, if you've flashed this kernel at the same time you flashed a linaro ROM, it's much more likely the issue is caused by a bug in the ROM.
If you're sure that the bug is definitely specific to the linaro franco kernels, post your logcat and kmsg (from /proc/last_kmsg - if you encounter a bug, reboot first in order to generate /proc/last_kmsg, then grab it and upload it), along with the name of the kernel .zip you flashed and ideally instructions on how to reproduce the bug.
Current Known Issues:
None
READ THIS:
What's different about the *.5pcOC.* archives?
This kernel is built with a 5% static board overclock, as of r186 Franco's normal builds no longer use any static board overclock. Your phone may not be able to handle this, if you get stuck on the google logo flash back to another release without the overclock.
What's different about the *.10pcOC.* archives?
This kernel is built with a 10% static board overclock rather than a 5% static board overclock, give it a go if you want.
Builds 207 and onwards are Jelly Bean only

Thanks, will give it at try...

This is a known issue with certain phones that arises because they are unable to run the 5% static overclock, the *.doc.* zips in the OP don't include this and they should allow you to boot up as normal.

I just added a freshly compiled doc.512GPU to the OP, I'll add the doc.384GPU one tomorrow.
For reference "doc" in the filename stands for Disabled Overclock, it means the build does not have the 5% static overclock. It does still allow you to apply a CPU overclock.

The Gpu is overclock from 266mhz to 300mhz for 3d and from 200mhz to 229mhz for 2d.
You can change GPU freq. from system/init.d/99GPUoverclock file.

Thanks! Going to test it, and is there any details about this rom?
Again, TY HO!NO!
Downloading right now and I'll flash it and give it a run and report back.
Installed but I cannot receive calls. I did once but I am not sure what I was configuring at that time so please help me with that issue, phone number is "Unknown" in about phone.. Other than that it is smooth and quick.
Maybe try flashing a baseband again .

I volunteer to be a guinea pig for the oc/uv lol. I'm just now getting to flashing. Thank you HO!NO! and good to see you're still coming around!
HO!NO!
Does this Alpha ROM include your OC/UV kernel b/c I'm not seeing the 99ocvoltcontrol or 99GPUoverclock files. As well, the init.qcom.post_boot.sh doesn't have the options to set governer and OC. Is that something you're waiting to release due to on going issues?
He's waiting for people to volunteer for the oc/uc. This is just alpha release with no kernel tweaks. (This is my assumption with information he has provided in the op)

I've just installed this build and indeed I am seeing OC values of 1566, 1620, 1674, 1728, 1782, 1836, 1890, 1944
I have not messed with the voltages at all yet however, but I assume they would be there too.
ROM runs smooth and fast but already had two bsod

my experience so far
I flashed it last night and used pimpmyrom to tweak a few settings (no change on dalvik and multitasking). 1728 seems unstable to me. But I read that this ROM has no uv so I might give that a try.
What values should I decrease for uv?

I used X0dus' numbers from his FT undervolt guide in the general section and I'm running stable at 1728. I don't have PmR or anything else running on it at the moment. This ROM does, in fact, have uv; as HO!NO! said, use System Tuner to set the values.
rom run very smooth with the new kernel, but the taskkiller is too aggressive , keep killing the browser , battery drain is better but still not sleeping well Thank you!please keep it up!
Here is a kernel Houstonn and I have been working on. It's based on Faux123 kernel for nexus 4, however, it has evolved into a "buffet" kernel. I keep choosing what i believe is the better interface / way of doing things in a choice of various way or what could give us better battery / performance. I'm trying to maintain a certain balance.
This version is for geehrc (Sprint/Internationnal) with the 13mp. If you have the 8mp phone (E973/E971/E970), use that thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2229742
I won't link to Faux123 kernel in the nexus 4 for the simple reason that 99% of the people don't read and on these 99% of people, a few will end up flashing nexus 4 kernel which mostly flash by partition number and not by partition name thus hard bricking their device.
Reason to at least try it :
CPU voltage table
Intellidemand and Wheatley governor added
All the block I/O scheduler
TCP Westwood algorithm
Faux123 sounds interface
Faux123 gamma interface (color control)
Newest Prima (wifi) driver.
In-kernel thermal watching
Msm_mpdecision (In-kernel OpenSource MPDecision)
Thanks :

There is 10000 variants for that phone and I want to offer that kernel to everyone, however, i can't maintain 10000 threads. I will follow only 1 thread for the geehrc which is the one i previously linked and one for the geeb.
Cool. Now I just need to sack up and flash an AOSP ROM. :/

Hey all, I decided to go to the darkside and move away from stock.
This kernel is a fork from chadouming and Team Placeholder. with that being said, thank you to both.
This has only been tested Android 4.3, I do not believe it will work on 4.2.

Super excited to see you make a kernel for aosp. Will be my go-to. I would like to request frandom support in the kernel. Smoocha kernel had frandom support and I believe it really did help performance. I first read about frandom from the Crossbreader thread in the general android section. Here's the paragraph:
"5. Frandom support (Optional) - CrossBreeder now supports linking both your random devices to the extremely fast alternative - Frandom ( http://billauer.co.il/frandom.html ). This module is orders of magnitude (10-50 times) faster than the standard character devices ( Check this out - http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&postcount=134 ). The erandom character device also installed by Frandom doesn't use up system entropy at all on top of being fast. You will need to ask your ROM developer to develop the kernel module for you and then place it in /system/lib/modules. CrossBreeder will then try and load it and if successful, make all the necessary adjustments so that both /dev/random and /dev/urandom are pointing to /dev/frandom and /dev/erandom respectively. The speed benefits are to be seen to be believed. But since each ROM requires a unique kernel module, this option is left optional ( but auto detect ). Advanced users can even try and load the frandom module built for other kernels if they don't have one readily available for their own kernel version using the Punchmod utility. Read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...5#post41920265"
Thanks for your time reading

Hey man, tried flashing this on top of shelnut's CM 10.2 after wiping dalvik and cache and got stuck at a weird LG boot screen, then the screen and capacitive buttons turned on but it was just a blank black screen. I'm really looking forward to trying this though.

I'm going to have to make one from cm sources. This one won't work on cm 10.2 and there kernel Wont work on a pure source 4.3 .... I don't really k ow what's going on with cm .I know they like to have their kernels built with their ROMs. I'm thinking that I will start on a cm kernel tonight after work. This source that I'm using is a caf 2.5 kernel. You all that are using cm will have a kernel tonight

Thank you, sir! Much appreciated!
Ty ... I do know the big problem is our cm is mostly mako with a few tweaks to work on our phone... If we can ever get one the built from source not one put together by bits and pieces that would solve a lot of problems... But please don't get me wrong I do appreciate all the work that is and has been done to even get ports working for us...

This kernel isn't based on Mako. It is based on the Qualcomm-made Snapdragon-optimized sources at CodeAurora (their repositories for sharing code with partners and us). That is the same source that manufacturers (such as LG) base their kernels on (even Google does as well, but theirs is not up-to-date and is missing some optimizations).

Sorry about that. LG has a strange initlogo implementation which I haven't quite figured out yet. It only shows for a second so it's not too bad though. If I disable or delete the initlogo, it seems to boot up slower, so that's why it's there.

No need to apologize. I understand that things are a work in progress and that bugs need to be worked out. I'm just happy to be running 4.3 lol.
However, I will say that once the weird LG screen went away, my phone would not boot. It would just go to a blank, black screen. The screen was on, and the capacitive buttons were lit up but the screen was just blank.
So if you got it to actually boot up then you got farther than I did!

its not a problem anymore at all. Shelnutt completely rebased cm10.2 on the rom from e975, so we don't have a mako based rom anymore, its lgog based, which is why camera isn't an issue as much anymore
