Is there a certain apn I could use to only send mms and not have data turned on or be used by background app data (T-Mobile)?

I don't think there's a way to do that, but you should actually still get MMS with your data turned off. You just won't be able to view it till you turn on data for like a few seconds. If its your data you're afraid going over or wasting only turn on to download your MMS messages which, like I said, should only take a few seconds where it'd be hard for many other apps to really get to also use it.

If you're using handcent, under settings, did you check the box that prevents re-sending of a message?
Its happening to me also, I been receiving same text message from various senders since about 1pm! its really pissing me off!!! My setup is in my sig.
Just stock SMS. I even loaded handcent and selected don't resend and it still does. Help

Have you tried going into settings -> applications-> manage-> then force stop mms, then clear data and cache? Also if that dosen't (i think it should) remove all messages from your inbox you should do that also.

Just talked to sprint and the problem is how the SMS gets stuck in a loop on their servers. They asked if i was running any foreign Rom (of course not), as that can cause the corruption. The will have to fix it on their side.

Sprint fixed my SMS from hell. They tried to tell me it was the phones, but considering the sending phone was off, and the receiving phone was still getting them, I proved them wrong. Tier two took over and flushed something on their side and the text messages finally, thankfully stopped.

What does this mean? I keep getting notifications that pop up and say Mobile internet traffic this month has exceeded the limit of #.##MBMB. Mine says now 4.08MBMB..
Anybody know what this is? Hope its nothing bad.

I think it means big bro knows you're tethering way too much
We're comin from a pure power source.
I don't tether at all. I've only tried it out a few times and that was months back. On my last bill statement I barely used 1gb of data. Something's up.

Hmmm, streaming a lot? Random app in the background or someone ripping off your wifi or hotspot?

if your using MIUI open up the "Tools" folder on homescreen then click on the monitor app. you can adjust settings there or turn it off completely. The whole Monitor thing is automatically turned on as soon as you flash MIUI ( I think) but doesn't mean anything bad per se.. Unless you have a limited data plan
I figured it all out. I went ahead and turned off mobile traffic since its un needed.

Do you have a lot of people send you pictures? I have never had an issue with the messaging system using that much cpu.

I had data off and my friend sent me a picture of clouds for some reason. Really important. Then that happened.

That's why it happened cause you had data off. Messaging knew it needed to download a pending image but couldn't, so just sat there waiting indefinitely.
That's strange, I would think that he messaging app would just wait until you activated your data again. Not constantly trying to download the picture.

New thread: Why you shouldn't have data off! :silly:
Yeah I see a lot of people that have problems when the turn off data. I understand it saves a little battery but it causes a lot of issues.

Some carriers (T-Mobile) don't use the regular data connection for MMS. Until I got this phone I did not have a data plan and still received MMS like any other text message.
I have auto retrieve off and if I don't download the mms right away it still keeps my phone awake
Next time, tell em to email pics. Lol

Yeah! Why does anyone use MMS anyway? lol
Maybe he didn't have a smartphone. But even basic phones can email these days.
Hope this thread is still alive, I didn't wanna make another topic.
So I have my data off all the time because it saves SOOO much battery, every now and then someone will send me a pic though, I have auto retrieve on, but when I get the notification, and turn on my data, it won't download the image until they send me another picture. :/
would having auto retrieve off fix this? Or is this some other kind of issue?
I have continued issues with receiving picture texts.... I almost always have to tell the sender to send it once more for it to come through. I've also noticed my H bars turning from Blue to Grey when this happens.... Any ideas as to what could be causing this? At&t looks dumbfounded every time I go in or call about this....

TBH, it sounds like an ATT issue.
I know the common thought is that grey bars means lost connections to Google, but when that happens to me, I have always lost network connectivity.

Remove your Google account then add again. Reboot.
Edit, custom ROM? I went back to stock because of many random issues since 4.1.2 was officially released.

mms is either apn related problem or just bad coverage (no good data in area)
you can google different apn settings to try
I have to use go smd to view mms depending on what ROM I'm using.

Uncheck auto retrieve and manually download them when they come. ThTs what I do on my vzw gnex as they sometimes get stuck if it have it auto and don't finish downloading.

Is there a way we can make this happen?
I remember on my sensation sense ROMs, when someone sent me a MMS my data will auto turn on and when done downloading it will turn back off.
It was very helpful plus saved battery.

Titles pretty confusing. I don't think you can do that on this phone. But I doubt it'd save that much battery anyway. These phones automatically drop to a 2g or 3g connection when not in use specifically to save power.
