[Q] how to transfer files to tablet - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

I am having trouble transferring files from the computer to my Nexus 7. Root and flashing ROM went fine everything else works flawless just can't load pictures or music onto the tablet. I am currently running android 4.3 and cleanROM 1.3 on new nexus 7. It must be something simple that I am overlooking sorry if this is a stupid question I did try to research it and came up with nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Settings-storage-click menu and enable MTP

If you want to do it remotely (way more annoying than with a cable, but once you get use to it, it can get handy)
Transfer rates can be relatively speaking, slow, but doesn't become a huge issue unless you're moving a lot of large sized files (i.e., high quality movies, a library of music etc.)
I use SSHDroid with WinSCP (For windows).
If you run Linux you don't really need WinSCP.
Using this method requires a little know-how with SSH / SCP to get optimal use out of this method.
Also, as a side note, your files are transmitted relatively safely (i.e., it's encrypted).

Here is exactly what you need! all you need to do is download it, plug your phone in, and run it!

Note that it may not read the phone if the lock screen is up. Can be a pain if you're in a rush.

Yup. Random freezing, disconnecting, etc. Also takes forever to open a folder.

has anyone found a way around using this horrible program
i like airdroid (find it on google play) it connects to the same wifi as your pc or you connect to the mobile hotspot and you open http://ipaddressofthephone:8888 and theres a website where you can push and pull files and other cool things.

[Q] Suggestions for Backing up Internal Storage via Wi-Fi?

Hey,
I need to backup my internal storage via wi-fi because my USB connector is defective and the computer wont recognize anymore..
Any suggestions on apps or a process to do this? Someone suggested AirDroid to me..
Thanks
I know you can do it through KIES plugged into USB. KIES AIR should be able to do the same thing over wifi. I have never tried it though. I am sure somewhere here are the files for it if you are running a custom ROM that it was cut out of. Do a search and try it out.
bump
Anyone else have other ideas? I tried Kies, it sucks (its slow and failed in the middle of my 2000 pictures, and theres no resume or synchronize, so its a fail)
I tried FSync with an ftp server which seems to work good but at first look im missing alot of files.
File expert has a good smb plugin for windows networking, do a multi select on your directories and paste them onto a network shared drive

I use FolderSync over smb, works great. I have a profile set to start the sync when on home wifi+ charging.

iSyncr? Though haven't tried that before.
Who has a working method? I mean they can't make this so hard putting music on a phone from a macbook....
There's been other posts about this I'm pretty sure, did you search to find similar threads? Search the other lte variants forums as well.

I do it manually. Pop my micro sd card into the usb slot on my macbook and use finder to copy files over. I'm using neutron music player so it handles my mp3 and m4a/alac lossless files with no problem.
There's a couple apps that try to automate this but my collection doesn't change a lot so I found this approach easier.

Oh, and if you want to use the built-in storage on the device, the android file transfer app for mac works and is fast - even faster than copying to my sd card.

The issue I have is when I am copying files over, it says screen is locked but its not and then transfer stops through android file transfer..i could put the micro sd in a sd card in the card reader...
I searched but couldn't find anything...could anyone post those links?

Make sure your device is connected as a camera, not an mtp device.

I have tried that but it still gives me the same message. If I use the UMS app I can get access to external without android file transfer but not internal. I really would like access as my backup from my old phone are all on my mac

I use TuneSync. It will allow wired or wireless syncing of music from iTunes to your android device. Fairly simple to set up.
Here is the Play Store link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...EsImNvbS5oaWdod2luZHNvZnR3YXJlLnR1bmVzeW5jIl0.
Easy phone tunes is the best one I used so far. I haven't upgraded to mountain lion so not sure if it compatible. However the only annoying thing is that you can only sync everything or 1 playlist. But it's super fast so I guess that makes up for the lack of functions.

Question about Mac comp & Android file transfer

I finally got my Note 2 (YAYYYY) and I love it but one question...does anyone have any success using android file transfer on Mac and it recognizing the Note 2? It keeps saying that it doesn't recognize my phone...I was having the same issues with my S3 when it received the Jellybean update. TIA

When ever Adroid itself swtiched from Universal Mass Storage to whatever it is now it hasnt been recognized by my Macs since then. Possibly on the Epic 4G Touch w/ICS, but not sure if it was that far back. I have a Win 7 VM on my Macbook, and a Win 8 VM on my MacMini that i just fire up when I need to mess with a droid, Or since the Samsung folks were so thoughtful not to cover the sd slot with the battery I just throw the MicroSD into a usb reader I keep on a keychain.
You can also use Kies to transfer files via your web browser. It should already be installed on your phone. Just fire it up and follow the directions. I found it worked pretty well to transer files in both directions.
I also found that with a micro usb adapter you can plugin any usb flash or external drive and it will auto mount on your phone. The only problem I've seen with this however is that the unmounter process doesn't seem to quit on it's own after pulling the drive. This then causes the cpu to be stuck at 1.6ghz and drains the battery pretty fast. So, I just reboot my phone afterwards.

Thanks everyone. I got it working. I had to install Kies then use the uninstall icon that came in the .dmg Kies file. Once I uninstalled Kies using this method AFT recognized my phone. All is well again lol

I wish Kies wireless didn't rely on the steaming pile on insecure code that is Javascript

Only way I was successful with Android file transfer was after un installing Kies. . Also make sure you are using the usb cable that came with your phone. I tried with my old usb cable and it wouldn't recognize.

You can also use Airdroid or Wifi File Transfer to transfer files wirelessly.
Mine works fine just make sure phone is unlocked when connecting it is all I have to do. AFT pops right up and sees phone and card.

I have another question. How do I disable mobile data when I'm using wifi in my house? I know on my S3 the toggle icon was in the notifications slide down menu but how do I do it in the Note2? Thanks in advance

[Q] Funky Storage Issue

I've got a Sprint Galaxy SIII, SPH-L710 16GB, no SD Card. When I connect the device to my computer (WinXP, latest Samsung Drivers Installed) I'm able to see files I have downloaded to the storage via the device itself, as well as an .apk that I moved over from my computer, but I'm not able to see the various folders (DCIM, Foursquare, Music, Goomanager, Etc...) Is there something I'm missing here? Phone is running CM10.1 JellyBro.
**In the attached screenshot you can see the various files and folders, when I try to access the storage on my desktop, all I can see are the GAPPS.zip file, and the WhatsApp.apk
I know when I connect mine (vistax64) it pulls it up as a media device should be able to see it under my computer. If not I would look under your media player settings. Or you may wanna check to see if USB debugging is checked on your phone

Thanks. I actually tried that. USB debugging changed nothing. When I threw an SD Card in though, it suddenly was able to see SOME of my folders... I'm gonna do a clean wipe and start fresh, using the CM10.1 Official Nightly. I really need to get this remedied. I'll circle back once I have some results.
Should be studying for my MA Life Insurance license, and not buggering with my phone... oh well.
