Transfer Files To and From a Mac - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi I am using a Macbook and I plugged the Nexus selecting MTP option. I am unable to transfer data like songs amd downloaded from my phone to the Macbook. Is there something I should do? When switched to PTP iPhoto was launched and was able to transfer images only. Thanks for the help!

Here is exactly what you need! all you need to do is download it, plug your phone in, and run it!

Note that it may not read the phone if the lock screen is up. Can be a pain if you're in a rush.

Yup. Random freezing, disconnecting, etc. Also takes forever to open a folder.

has anyone found a way around using this horrible program

i like airdroid (find it on google play) it connects to the same wifi as your pc or you connect to the mobile hotspot and you open http://ipaddressofthephone:8888 and theres a website where you can push and pull files and other cool things.

Many file explorers have WiFi transfer capabilities to/from your PC.

Wireless File Managment App

hey i was wondering if anyone here has come across a app that will allow me to browse the files on my phone and drag and drop files from my computer on to my phone with out having to connect a usb to the computer, pretty much to sync wirelessly but to whatever specific folder i want on my phone . was playing around with Browsix which from what iv read should have that feature but i either havent been able to find out how it works or maybe it dosent have it at all.
Try the built in Samsung Kies Wireless app on your phone. It works quite well over the local wifi network.

Kies air. It's in your app drawer. I believe that's what you're looking for. Let's you navigate through everything on your phone wirelessly.

yea i just set it up and essentially thats what im looking for. but for example i have a folder with icons i wanna drop onto my phone. i have a folder for icons but i cant just drag that folder on to my phone through the kies browser and expect it to show up on my phone? when i click upload it only gives me the option to upload individual files not a whole folder. unless im not clicking the right option.
Try airdroid its a very nice app.

spot on man. i like how it gives you a desktop like window to play with. even lets you create folders on your phone and just import the files over. very very nice.
No problem bro, I love that app.

I just installed AirDroid, based on the recommendations, and partly because it uses port 8888 instead of 2121 that I'm using for another app.
One problem I'm seeing is that it doesn't load my Contacts. I get a yellow triangle and the message, "Failed with network error." This is on a Sprint E4GT running Calkulin's 2.7 if that matters.
I have used myphone explorer! It works great. I believe you can copy n sync files and folders from your pc to your phone. you can send sms through your phone from your pc keyboard. I was really impressed with it and it's almost a 5 star free program at the market.

[Q] Suggestions for Backing up Internal Storage via Wi-Fi?

Hey,
I need to backup my internal storage via wi-fi because my USB connector is defective and the computer wont recognize anymore..
Any suggestions on apps or a process to do this? Someone suggested AirDroid to me..
Thanks
I know you can do it through KIES plugged into USB. KIES AIR should be able to do the same thing over wifi. I have never tried it though. I am sure somewhere here are the files for it if you are running a custom ROM that it was cut out of. Do a search and try it out.
bump
Anyone else have other ideas? I tried Kies, it sucks (its slow and failed in the middle of my 2000 pictures, and theres no resume or synchronize, so its a fail)
I tried FSync with an ftp server which seems to work good but at first look im missing alot of files.
File expert has a good smb plugin for windows networking, do a multi select on your directories and paste them onto a network shared drive

I use FolderSync over smb, works great. I have a profile set to start the sync when on home wifi+ charging.

iSyncr? Though haven't tried that before.
Who has a working method? I mean they can't make this so hard putting music on a phone from a macbook....
There's been other posts about this I'm pretty sure, did you search to find similar threads? Search the other lte variants forums as well.
Sent from my SGH-I747M using Tapatalk 2
I do it manually. Pop my micro sd card into the usb slot on my macbook and use finder to copy files over. I'm using neutron music player so it handles my mp3 and m4a/alac lossless files with no problem.
There's a couple apps that try to automate this but my collection doesn't change a lot so I found this approach easier.

Oh, and if you want to use the built-in storage on the device, the android file transfer app for mac works and is fast - even faster than copying to my sd card.

The issue I have is when I am copying files over, it says screen is locked but its not and then transfer stops through android file transfer..i could put the micro sd in a sd card in the card reader...
I searched but couldn't find anything...could anyone post those links?
Samsung Kies?

I have tried that but it still gives me the same message. If I use the UMS app I can get access to external without android file transfer but not internal. I really would like access as my backup from my old phone are all on my mac

I use TuneSync. It will allow wired or wireless syncing of music from iTunes to your android device. Fairly simple to set up.
Here is the Play Store link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...EsImNvbS5oaWdod2luZHNvZnR3YXJlLnR1bmVzeW5jIl0.
Easy phone tunes is the best one I used so far. I haven't upgraded to mountain lion so not sure if it compatible. However the only annoying thing is that you can only sync everything or 1 playlist. But it's super fast so I guess that makes up for the lack of functions.

recover deleted photos

I deleted photos from my gallery (sprint gnex). Is there a way to recover them?
Nope. The internal storage can't be mounted as UMS so normal "deleted file recovery" tools don't work.
From now on use Google+ instant upload or Dropbox instant upload so you don't have to worry about it anymore. You can have it only upload on WiFi to save your data plan also.

You will have to root but it is absolutely possible:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34185439
You can recover deleted photos from android phone gallery, see this solution that helped me before: android photo recovery
It is easy to follow, so try it.
@slyd0997 I used the app DiskDigger and search /system and /userdata partition and i found all my deleted photo
Recovering deleted photos
I have accidentally deleted some photos on my Nexus 7(2013). I have been trying to attach the Nexus to the computer and make it appear as a disk and not a media device in order to scan and retrieve the photos.
I have turn developer mode on and switched usb debugging on. However the computer will not find the correct drivers for my Nexus (win 7).
SO i am stuck! All recovery software need it to appear as a disk otherwise they don't recognize it.
Today i have installed SKIPSOFT ANDROID TOOLKIT but it will not work! (i thought about getting the right drivers i need)
I keep getting the black screen for a second and it closes.
As far as i can tell My Avira doesn't block it.
I wanted to get help but i am not allowed to post questions on the original skipsoft thread.
CAN SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE??? :crying:

[Q] how to transfer files to tablet

I am having trouble transferring files from the computer to my Nexus 7. Root and flashing ROM went fine everything else works flawless just can't load pictures or music onto the tablet. I am currently running android 4.3 and cleanROM 1.3 on new nexus 7. It must be something simple that I am overlooking sorry if this is a stupid question I did try to research it and came up with nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Settings-storage-click menu and enable MTP

If you want to do it remotely (way more annoying than with a cable, but once you get use to it, it can get handy)
Transfer rates can be relatively speaking, slow, but doesn't become a huge issue unless you're moving a lot of large sized files (i.e., high quality movies, a library of music etc.)
I use SSHDroid with WinSCP (For windows).
If you run Linux you don't really need WinSCP.
Using this method requires a little know-how with SSH / SCP to get optimal use out of this method.
Also, as a side note, your files are transmitted relatively safely (i.e., it's encrypted).
