Some people have jobs mate
And no you don't need root, you need an unlocked bootloader. But that's up to yourself to decide if you want that.
Once unlocked you can flash everything !
Thank 4 for the replay
I will wait because of my warranty

when i run "fastboot getvar version-main"

But this ruu cannot be found on the internet!
So i try the 1.28.110.8, and it fails, telling me that i have the wrong RUU

What I did was restored my original back up, then flashed stock recovery then relocked bootloader then ran the ruu and it wiped everything.
At a guess you'll need the 2.17 stock recovery, not sure where you'll find it unless its on the forum somewhere and the generic 2.17.401 ruu from the filefactory website.

Depends on what the tool does. When the tool is leaving the bootloader locked then yes you have to unlock it again and flash the custom recovery and flash the desired JB rom
But as far as i can see the tool does it al ....also unlocking the bootloader ... etc etc
updating your hboot to newest firmware for jb also means that you can't flash anymore roms based on the older firmware right ? (or atleast means that there will be a lot problems with "older" roms)
can we downgrade the hboot (firmware) at anytime ?

Thats incorrect ! You can still flash ics roms on the newer hboots. No problem at all !
There are some cases with aosp roms that require a different boot.img, and that gps doesn't work.
Downgrade of the hboot is impossible unless you have a s-off phone. And that is most unlikely
Hello. I want to start by saying that I am a complete noob on HTC forums, just purchased HTC one X 3 days ago, upgraded from Galaxy Nexus. I bought my phone second hand, with 1.36 HBOOT and 3.14.401.31 firmware, unlocked bootloader and CWM installed. It was previously locked on O2 UK, but former owner unlocked it. I saw that there are newer firmware versions: 3.18.x.x and 3.20.x.x but they don't show on my OTA updates. I installed stock recovery and relocked bootloader, but still nothing. Is it because i have old HBOOT and not the newer 1.39? Is it because it was unlocked and had CWM installed? Am I doing something wrong? Or 3.14.401.31 is the latest firmware for me, and there are others in the same situation. I live in Romania/Europe if it helps. I am keen to resolve this problem because 4.2.2 will come in short time and i don't wanna miss it. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
Oh, and i have S-ON if it helps, and CID O2_001
I don't know if it helps but try for your CID find complete recovery for example clockwork mod and restore that recovery after that relock bootloader and you are fine

So all 401 versions are compatible with my CID? Versions like 3.18.401.1 or 3.20.401.1? It means that i have to flash them via CWM, because they won't be available OTA.
I unlocked bootloader and installed CWM. Can i install any firmware with x.x.401.x?

Since your bootloader is already unlocked and you have custom recovery just flash the custom Rom they are all based on 3.20 and every single custom Rom is better then stock why even bother with stock when you're already unlocked.... If you're worried about 4.22 and sense 5 don't be you won't get it for sure for the next 2\3 months at fastest with the career. While unbranded devices should get it within a month and you better hope there won't be hboot update so you can have sense 5 and 4.2.2 asap it gets out.

But is there any way to downgrade the android version with s-off ???
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Yes if a hox is S-OFF you can indeed downgrade by a ruu. S-ON devices can only run a certain nandroid backup of the older OS, but that's determined by it's main version.

I have attached one image file and you can see all the things in that...
Well there is no matching nandroid backup (sense 4) but you can run any nandroid backup on the phone you want, but note that the main number has to be 3.18 or higher. So ALL nandroid backups that are 3.18-3.20 are sense 4 nands that work.
With "work" i mean as a standalone rom, if you decide to restore one of those nandroids (different cid) you can NOT update via official OTA, and you can NOT relock the bootloader (OS won't boot) so it's your choice.
If your goal is to "just" run a sense 4 stock rom...just restore any of them.
