Hello all, Good to finally be here! Just came from an S3.
I'm obviously going to do much digging in the dev forums but off the top of your heads whats the best ROM for my preferences below:
I enjoy Blue themed ROM's
I have a S-view enabled case (Spigen Slim Armor View) so I need S-view (Does that mean ASOP ROMs are out of the question or did they build S-view into them for the S4?)
Overclocking available
Note: The ROM doesn't have to come blue themed, just be able to flash a blue theme over top of the ROM.
Thanks all!
EDIT: Also whats the best root method for this device? If theres more than one.

Research. Your questions have all been asked, even the one that's not allowed; which ROM is best for *. Most every ROM thread has screenshots in the very first post that will say if it's blue or not as well as tell you whether it's TouchWiz or AOSP along with listing the features it has. It will take a little more digging to see if AOSP supports S-View; though not much more. The kernel OPs will mention whether they are overclockable (what good is a custom kernel if you can't overclock it anyway?) There is no "best" root method. Any of the rooting methods found here will certainly work.
This for rooting
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41797153
Rom is a matter of preferences, there's no "best" ROM just what's best for you. I'm guessing for S-view you'll need to stick with a TW bass ROM.

Thank you for the friendlier answer and the link mate!
Not sure how "I'm going to do some research as well but" was missed in my OP but eh. Was asking for recommendations for me to check out first since I'm sure some ROMs are more stable than others just like every other phone that I usually spend a week flashing ROM's to find the stable ones, thought maybe someone could help me narrow that first week of flashing down and meet people on this forum as people do on my previous phone' forums but that doesn't seem the way to go over here I guess. Oh well getting used to the community comes with a new device.
Thanks for the help anyhow, Mods may close this thread.

Quick question, I'm overwhelmed by the amount of roms available. As much as I'd like to blindly try [xXx]l4Zer(actuallyAthEme]asdf[1.2.3.4.5]BEST ALPHA{{{EVAR}}} v.001, I'd love some advice. Best/favorite stable JB rom close to stock google. Thanks

Thanks for the "help" guys. It takes less time to not be a smartass and say "i liked the new miui! but xyz is popular".
Frosty Jellybean is an excellent "stock"-ish rom, but it has been discontinued but is still very stable.
Right now I'm on Darthstalker v8 and it's very smooth and close to stock. I've also used Wicked and Domination and they're excellent roms as well.
For your needs, a rom that is as stock as possible, I'd recommend Frosty Jellybean and Darthstalker (Frosty Jellybean is as stock as a rom can get and is very stable, but as I said before, development is discontinued.)
If you do go with Darthstalker, I'd recommend flashing the "STOCK UVDLJA FONT" and "REVERT CLOCK TO RIGHT" mods that are in the first post in the thread. I've yet to test battery life, but so far it's very snappy.
Thanks GenericAsianGuy, Darthstalker looks good. Definitely gonna need that font switch tho.
I personally prefer AeonFluxx, but everyone's tastes are different. Ask 100 different people, and you will get 101 different answers.
Doesn't take much time to look through the development sections yourself and choose your own favorite either..

I agree, look at the mods for each rom, and see the last 10 posts, if you do that you will limit what is wrong, and what people think of the rom. I did this a bout 3 weeks ago planning on making a template of the roms that are available for our phone, with a bio on each of the roms... I asked if people would like me and some others to do this and got little response, so I didn't think it was worth it.
My favorite JB rom is domination. Works 100% out of the box, no extra mods or anything you need to flash, fast and good battery life.
Thetenthdr, you're totally right about the opinions thing. I'll be checking out those other ones too. It'll take a while to get the jargon down, much less all the different features/pros-cons so I really appreciate getting some opinions so I can jump right in without a PHD.
I thought questions like this weren't allowed, why is this still open

elflip88, just to make you sad. mt3g, that's a great idea! The Vibrant had a great rom bible, don't quite see anything like that here (but maybe I just missed it)
Root66 is perfect for you.
Flip is correct. These threads are frowned upon because they almost always turn into a pissing match.
Mt3g's plan is what I usually tell new users. Browse the Dev section and pick a few you like and read their OPs. Then read the last 10 pages (not posts) or so to find out about some bugs/questions. Pick one you like and start reading.
Btw, many of us came from the Vibrant and yes you are correct, there was a fantastic "bible" over there. Would love to see one like it over here.

well, I got brave and rooted my S3, and was looking to go further by trying a rom.
This is my first smartphone, so I don't have a lot of experience with different models, but I like touchwiz, and enjoy S voice and search google via voice to text. Actually, there is not a lot about this phone that I don't like. That said, I always believe a product can be made better.
I read a post somewhere a few days ago where someone commented that they had tried a variety of roms, but ended up going back to a modified sammy rom because Cyanogen and AOKP roms removed all of the stuff that made his S3 special. He commented that it made it feel like a 2 year old Nexus. Not having tried any of these roms, I cannot vouch for the truth in this, but it makes sense, and I too want my S3 to be "special... plus"
Some of the things I'm looking for in a rom are
keeping s voice
a toggle mod
some debloating
Beats audio, or similar
I would like a translucent status bar (is that what is called?) .. the thing you pull down from the homescreen
Free GS3 might be an option, but its a T mobile port, and I'm not sure about it.
any recommendations are certainly welcome.
Thanks...

This is very simple if you want a reliable non bug all features working rom... just stay with stock... all other roms are not perfect, they will give you some but it will also lack on something, I have try them all and always come back to stock.

Q&A Should be where questions go. I would also say there are many solid stable roms. Read, read and try as many as you want. All phones are not 100% the same and your apps and setups can effect how it runs.

There are multiple threads in this (General) section and the Q&A section. Please search and read those threads for opinions, options, etc. Moreover ROMs are a personal choice, and are subjective to user experience. I'd suggest making a nandroid backup, flash a ROM, if you don't like it, restore your backup and try another.

Hi guys,
Just wondering if there's a general consensus on the most stable AOSP rom? Preferably one that doesn't have anything (major) broken - e.g I can live without voice search, I must have a fully working camera, etc. Also built to be stable as a rock. Are the AOSP roms vulnerable to the SDS?
Or are they not quite there yet?
For those of you not on AOSP, what stock-based roms do you like? I don't really understand the difference between stock and things like ARHD for example? How stable is it compared to stock, and what about battery life? My 4.1.1 battery was incredible but 4.1.2 isn't so good.
Cheers!

Are the AOSP roms threads vulnerable to the SDS (Sudden Deletion Syndrome)?
Or are the threads not quite there yet? Do we need another one?
For those of you not on XDA regularly, what stock-based roms threads do you like? I don't really understand the difference between searching and posting yet another thread for example? How silly is it compared to other threads, and what about sarcasm life, how quickly will my threads be mocked? My first thread was incredible but this "What's the best ROM" isn't so good.

Android Revolution HD (14.0 for the Galaxy Note 2) is probably the closest you're going to come to what you want. It's based on the stock ROM, but lordy! is it fast. And rock solid. Has a built-in installer that allows you to remove (or not) the Samsung cruft. Been using it since version 9, and I am quite happy with it. Check the thread in the developer forum.

Hilarious! No seriously, thanks for taking the time to satirise the thread without taking note of some of the questions I'd asked.
I've searched long and hard about SDS and not getting anything at all concrete about the implications of using AOSP. We don't all have the £500 to throw around and just risk bricking our device because somebody is to pretentious to actually help out someone that has taken the time to look but still needs some guidance.

SDS Thread
What - is - the - best - ROM
The sad truth of SDS is that no one really knows (sure, there's a LOT of speculation) anything about it. I know 3 people with S3's who have had their phone die after they upgraded to the latest Sammy Official "patched for SDS" ROM. It's sadly a gamble we all take.
Anyway, if you're really done some research then I apologise. You didn't mention that at all in your original post, it looked like another "I'm too lazy to research this, bring it to me on a platter" thread.

Whilst the title is generic the inside of the thread was a bit more particular - with the SDS focus - and so given that nothing was out there I'm not really sure of the point of putting "honestly I've searched please don't kill me" because this is my 3rd device I've played with and used xda for and I know how petty a lot of forum members can be, it simply wouldn't make a difference.
The SDS thread is naturally where I started but has extremely limited info for aosp rom. The what is the best rom threads you posted are largely redundant given the lack of information or type of experience they're looking for is provided. Most are a waste of everyone's time and given how quickly development rakes place even if they were relevant they could still quickly be outdated.
Your tone in your first reply suggested that the answers were blindingly obvious and even a moron like me could find them with the most primitive of searches. Instead you've just admitted that no one really knows and it therefore was a valid question - a bit more thought before posting could go a long way.

The point of telling people you've done some research is so that they don't assume you're lazy. Sadly, most people ARE lazy. SDS focus? You mention it once, in passing.

What's the consciousnesses of the best ROM for the Sprint G3?
Really don't want to download them all, try all features and then choose. We need like a Download meter on a page that says how many times each rom flavor has been downloaded so we know what's hot and what's not.
Give me your feedback based on all features working and a solid rom with no issues. (plz don't laugh. I know we are not releasing broke apps/ROMs )

Every week or two, this exact thread pops up, and the generic response is: try them all out.
In terms of downloads, none of the Roms are hosted on XDA< so it'd be impossible to bake it into the site itself. Dev's could put it in their posts, but even that's not a good indication (Roms that release a lot of updates will have a lot more downloads with fewer users, for example).
In terms of what's best, it's impossible to say. I personally like some of the fun features of XYZ Rom, while Johnny over there is much more interested in stability (he uses the phone for work, you see). Likewise, Suzie really just wants to have a Stock Rom with all Sprint and Samsung bloat removed. Little Ralphie wants the fastest and most gamer-friendly Rom, while Carl wants the best battery life.
All of us will have different desires when we flash a Rom and therefore there will never be a consensus on what is the best Rom.
Edit: All of that being said, If you don't want to take the time to flash each Rom individually, I'd say look at one thread and look at the features list. You'll see a bunch of stuff that makes no sense to you, but you might be able to piece together what some of the mods/features might be. If they sound good, read through the last 5-10 pages of the thread and see if there are any stability issues being reported. If it seems stable enough for you, flash it. Otherwise, move on to the next thread.

I would recommend Wicked v7 Custom rom, it has all the bells and whistles which make a rom and the phone so great.
It's fast, smooth, lag free and everything a custom rom should be. Give it a try, you will not be disappointed........
Here is the link for the Wicked v7 custom rom for the M919 Tmobile Samsung Galaxy S4 phone:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265998
They frown I comparing ROMs and staying debates over which is better - and just asking what people like is a little silly. What do you WANT? A stock Touch Wiz experience with all the Samsung and T-Mobile bells and whistles? Stock android? Simple and uncomplicated? Super-configurable? Highly optimized for performance, or battery life, or storage space?
I'd love to see a thread with links to the appropriate ROM thread and a Twitter-sized expansion if what's unique and noteworthy about the ROM (probably written by the dev), so there's a simple place to start comparing.

Best ROM threads are very subjective, dependent on many different criteria.
I have a strange feeling that this Best ROM thread will go the way of all the other Best ROM theads.......Locked
What I have done is looked through the past 50 pages in the Q&A Forum, and have linked to all the Best ROM threads which have been Locked, listed from the newest to oldest. Although the number of Locked
Best ROM threads will continue to grow.
There are so many, that ironically these Locked threads have become their own source of ROM information, although ROM versions are constantly updated and new ROMs are emerging all the time.
So as is always said, it is suggested to go into individual ROM threads, read about what features they have, their feedback, ask any questions you may have, etc., and try them out to see which ROM suits your taste and works best for you

How can there be so many "best" roms, something must be wrong...
I always thought that only one rom could be the best.
I bet out of all those best roms you found only one is truly the best, the rest are all second class.

Yes, they are All the Best, so the search for the Bestest ROM in the Whole Wide World has Officially ended, and we will not see or hear about anymore Best ROM threads....
The illusive search is Officially over......
And now back to reality

To be found in the next Locked Best ROM thread:cyclops:
XDA is a development site not a support site. As such members are expected to do the research, read through the development threads and decide what is BEST for them. The only results that would be posted here are what each member has found to be BEST for them by experimentation based on their phone/usage/setup/apps/signal strength. Please take the time to read through those development threads to learn all about the software you are about to drastically alter your very expensive device with.
Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your cooperation.
