[Q] Dinc plugged into charger, black screen wont boot - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was staying the night somewhere out of my own house unplanned and I forgot my charger so I found a random USB cord that fit into my phones charging port and I took an iCrap's wall outlet adapter and used that to connect it to the wall. The first time I plug my Dinc in it wont even recognize that it is plugged in so I unplugged it and plugged it back in and it started charging, but the touchscreen wasn't responsive. I tried to reboot it using the trackpad but after a few seconds of doing that the trackpad would become nonresponsive. I unplugged it and everything worked fine. Being the idiot I am I plugged it back in again and the same thing happened. I finally decided this was probably a bad idea so I was about to unplug it when the screen went black, the orange charging light stopped shining even though it was plugged in and unplugging it didn't help... Now I know this phone cant be turned on plugged in and without a battery so I haven't even tried that but no matter what charger I plug it into, factory or other, or what kind of outlet, car wall and computer the screen stays black, charging light doesn't go on, I cant get into recovery or hboot, yes it is rooted (cyanogen mod 7.2.0 with CWM) I was wondering what I could do or if anyone had any ideas about this? PLEASE HELP

Flashing orange light, here's one reason.

So I got a flashing orange light on my EVO tonight when I plugged it in to charge, phone was dead, wouldn't turn on, dead battery. That's one reason you get a flashing orange light, a completely dead battery, just plug it in and let it sit for a bit and it will get a solid orange light. I advise waiting 20min or so then turning it on.
Side note, car chargers don't always have the power so you can use your phone while it's charging when the battery is really low, had it plugged it and was using it for an hour + and it still died

There are car chargers you can get that will charge the same as your wall charger. Read it and see if it says 1000mA.. There are also adapters that plug into 2 usb ports at 500mA equaling 1000 when charging your phone. Most car usb port chargers have 2 slots or more so its possible. You can also use the adapter method on your computer to receive the full 1000mA charge.
I'm using my palm pre car charger (original). I was streaming Pandora n checking my Facebook and it charged till it was full (green light n all)

Mine charger works for my car, but my moms has a usb port built into the car and that's the one that wouldn't keep my phone alive.

My EVO Shift completely discharged and when I plugged it in to recharge it, I got the same problem - amber light would flash 3 or 4 times then stop, it would not charge and not turn on. I removed the battery for 10min. With the battery removed I plugged in the USB cable into the computer and phone, pressed the power button, unplugged the USB, pressed the power button again, replaced the battery, plugged in the USB and the amber light went solid and appears to be charging now.
BTW, I'm posting this because the OP's solution of plugging "it in and let it sit for a bit" didn't work, it was plugged into the wall adapter all night and didn't charge. I could only get it to do so using the steps above. cheers.
If you happen to be near a Sprint store and the "let it charge for about 20 minutes until solid orange" didn't work, take your battery to them. They can boost it on their battery machine. I see a lot of customers just for this very reason.

I've had my EVO for just a few days and I got the abrupt shut down followed by flashing amber light also. The phone was charging off the usb of my laptop at the time. When i unplugged the phone the light turned off and the phone would not turn on. I thought I fried it because I did not know what flashing amber meant. What was strange about it was that not only did I not receive the usual "battery is nearing 15%, please plug in" notification but the phone powered off when I was reading an article about things to do to prolong battery life. Anyway, I proceeded to charge the phone from an outlet and now things seem to be fine.
I am having a similar problem with my HTC Incredible 2 on verizon. Last night it was charging just fine, and when I woke up this morning it was off and it won't turn on or do anything. I can plug it in and if I hold the battery it will flash the orange light a few times but it always stops. I've tried the fixes in this thread and nothing...what can I do?
It was still almost half way charged when I feel asleep last night so the battery wouldn't have run down. The only thing I'm worried about is if the charger did something to the battery but it seems unlikely as its a charger I've used often.

When the amber light is blinking, it basically means charging, but there is not enough turn on voltage to power on the device. If you were previously charging it > remove the battery for 5 minutes > replace it > charge the device on a WALL outlet, NOT a usb charging, i.e. computer, tv, xbox, etc. You should be good to go after that.
Well, when I plug it on a wall outlet and always this switching amber LED...
The fact is that this charger is working well with my other phone (HTC Sensation)
I'll try another charger if I found it !
Hello
This happens on my HTC HD2 when it's on the car mount and used as a GPS, and when there's too much sun hitting the device!
I know I should put the device in the shade, but for that, I'd have to buy a new car mount system, annoying...
In my case of desire sv which suddenly died and was "amber blinking", I had to just push the battery a little bit for it to start working again. Until that point of physical battery adjustment, I tried many options for the "amber blink" to go away.
Thank God, the phone is alive. Apparently, as I understand, the amber blink is to indicate that the battery is not present - perhaps. :on't Know::

Plugging in usb cable will automatically start phone

I've been going nuts with this problem, that if the phone is being charged with usb cable plugged in, when I press "Power off" the phone will shut down and automatically restarts itself.
If I unplug the cable the phone can power off fine, but when it's in power off state, as soon as I plug in the cable, it starts itself automatically just as if I pressed and held the power button which I didn't.
What's going on?????????? Please help.
Clarify: it's not that the screen turns on, it's the phone actually turns on / boots / starts.
EDIT:
Did a little research, my problem is the same as here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1209918
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=689248
I noticed with mine, the only time it started up automatically was when I didn't have the USB cable plugged in fully to the wall charger.
I think that the phone can somehow detect either resistance or capacitance changes in the USB connection and turns on under certain circumstances, while it is supposed to stay off if the resistance / capacitance values are "normal".
it's normal for the screen to turn ON when you plug in the USB cable
it's NOT normal for the Phone to turn ON from OFF when you plug in the USB cable
the normal behaviour for when the Phone is completely OFF when you plug in the USB cable it should just show you the green battery meter charging

I doubt it's a defective unit because it used to be fine. Just happened yesterday.
Everything is stock right now.
try a different charger/cable. if it still happens return it.
I had this problem after wiping my battery status and draining it all the way down. After charging over night, I then ran battery calibrator the next day and when i ran it all the way down again and plugged it in the problem was solved. Hasnt happened since (since 2 days ago when this happened anyway).
very interesting
Mine turns on when I plug in a usb cable while the phone is turned off following a battery stuck at 100% condition. In other words, if my phone is stuck at 100% (usually every time after charging), and I turn the phone off, and then plug in the usb cable, the phone will turn on by itself. But if my phone is not stuck at 100%, and I turn the phone off and then plug in the cable, I get the green battery.

Similar issues
I have a rooted and lightly modded stock 2.3.6 but I've been having these issues ever since I rooted and I was on stock 2.3.5
1. Charger sometimes doesn't charge at all
2. If I'm on a call via bluetooth and I connect it, it won't charge until I hang up
3. My previous charger for my t959 was working for the 1st week and now it doesn't charge my phone at all.
4. after i plug in my phone to my oem charger it takes about 10 seconds to recognize it and then starts charging
I don't know what the hell this is but it's pissing me off. I've done a wiped dalvik and don't a clean install and nothing changes. I didn't have this problem the 1st week i had the phone but now on my 3rd week it's pissing me off.
I hope someone has an answer or at least a similar problem.
I think it is charging. It just not showing it is charging until your turn on the screen.
Happen to my phone too, but it is charging.
I would love it show the orange light when charging and green light on full charge.

Red led blinks and phone never turned on

Guys i am on Insert Coin Rom.
And tonight i ran out of battery and when i came home i put my phone on charger . And later switched it on and saw it is 21% and then again switched it off and then left it over charger and after few min i remove it from charger and tried to turn it on it doesnt turn on.
And now i charging it over usb at my pc and now red led blinking and it doesnt turn on too!!!
What to do?
This is something i havent herd of before...maybe another member can help you!
have you tried switching on with vol button to get into bootloader?
Red blinking LED means very low battery (not enough to power on the phone), best to charge it with wall plug for at lest 1hr and the phone should turn on again.
USB charging is very slow and might not work when red LED is flashing.
I don't think the phone will charge when switched off with clockworkmod recovery installed.
Don't worry, this happened to me before with custom ROM, just leave it plug in to wall charger and the phone will reboot after 1 to 2 hrs, then it will continue to charge normally.

Note 2 only shows Battery screen?

My phone died overnight yesterday, and when I got home today I found it to be dead, so I plugged it in and turned it on.
The menu where it shows an empty battery which fills up as you charge it was there, but the screen was frozen.
I tried plugging in and out the charger, tried booting with and without the battery, and each and every time, the screen with the empty battery and a frozen loading circle just comes up.
It might be my cable, so I plugged it into my HTC One X.
It worked fine, it charges but only if I bend the micro-usb side of the cable.
The reason for this is because I ran over the cable's front end with my computer chair, and somehow it only works when you angle it some way now. But, if I do angle it correctly, it will charge and if remained in that position it will charge.
I plugged the USB into my computer to see if it would read the Note 2, nothing.
Tried it with the One X, and it worked.
The very dim red LED light did come up though, when I was holding the power button.
Any ideas on what I should do?
Should I replace the USB cable? This may be a factor, but the frozen empty battery screen and the fact that the charger still works baffles me.
Some other notes:
The Note 2 is running a custom 4.4.2. ROM: W03 SLIM V9 or something.
It has also been recently hard resetted, and everything was working fine until it died last night.
What should I do!!

Swap the cable...
And not sure what you mean about the charger ???
I've managed to get the right angle of my charge and bot into recovery, and from there I booted into system.
Now it isn't stuck on the zero battery screen and is charging now

Sounds to me like the battery was drained enough that it needed some time to charge before it would even turn on. I know my old iPhone behaved like that if I let the phone die.
Glad it sorted itself out.
