Hi all, I've got my Arc for two weeks, it seems that sometimes the camera is not available when I launch the application. It always happen when the accelerometer doesn't work. It works fine again when I reboot the phone.
Anyone else got this issue? Do I have to repair via SEUS or there is another way around?
Thanks

Nope, I used the camera many times and not even once I saw this issue. It's best to do a repair firmware to rule out that it's not a software issue. Once done and you are facing the problem, then it could be the hardware faulty and you need to bring the phone to service centre for repair.

I am having exactly the same issue. Had phone 2 days now and many unstable aspects from day 1 and ongoing.
Camera is sometimes 'not available' - interestingly at the same time other things don't work such as the accelerometer.
Phone reboots randomly by itself including during phone calls.
Items downloaded from market disappear .
I am returning it and hoping for a replacement as I do not want a 'repaired' phone after paying so much.
Also should note I have made no changes to the phone at all - this is 'as delivered'
I had this happen a couple of times. When it does I just go to the app manager and force stop the camera app. It should work again after that.
Never had the problem with camera not being available... although most times my photos dont work... its like a black broken image icon that shows instead...

Thanks - Your problem must be different, as this solution does not work for me.The app manager does not show the camera as running, so no force close option is available.
Only way to get the camera to function when the phone is in this 'camera not available' mode is to reboot. Every time the camera is not available the accelerometer stops working as well - again a reboot is required to fix this
^ Yes it is, reboot solved it. But I'm curious, is it a bug or a fail hardware?
I have the same problem. The camera app fails to launch. I long press camera button and get the haptic feedback but nothing happens.
for me it's just the shutter button
never had this problem
but my camera doesn't activate when i press the shutter.
any ideas?
ps: i have vignette demo and fxcamera installed
pps: the arc camera is brilliantly EXCELLENT (coming from a G1)
ppps: the shutter button is terribly stiff
had the same problem but SEUS fix it for me by reflashing the firmware.
The phone should be awake when you press on camera button inorder the camera app to launch

Camera stays on after been used, i think its not possible to quit it with adv task killer, so i downloaded app "fast reboot pro" so test it when u get it back, and it also works with apps, i have seen that issue few times, just click to reboot and it will be good.
just a thought or two..
have you try resetting or calibrating those sensor?
or do you have any app that totally disabled rotation (not just simple rotate toogle)?
Anyone found the answer to this problem? Really annoying
Hello,
I have an HTC Desire HD running Android 2.3.3. The device isn't rooted and I've never rooted it before.
I've checked on this site, and I've scoured Google all day but I haven't managed to find anything that matches my problem specifically, as explained below.
In the last couple of days I have been having a bizarre problem where after several minutes of normal use the phone becomes completely unresponsive or very laggy (to the point where it is unusable). This occurs whether I am using apps or simply looking at the home-screen.
The only thing that's responsive is the screen lock button, this works as normal. However when I then try to unlock the screen, the phone is still unresponsive and I'm unable to unlock it.
The only fix I've found (if you can call it a fix) is to leave the phone alone for a several minutes. If I do this I can once again unlock the screen as normal and continue using the phone, however after a few minutes of use it locks up again! This has been happening since last night now and I've found no way to break this cycle.
I did a hard reset to see if this solved the problem but it had no effect. The phone will boot as normal, and after a few minutes of normal use it will become unresponsive again.
I've also booted my phone without the SD card in just in case anything on this was causing the problem, still no improvement.
Has anyone else experienced a similar issue who could provide some insight as to what might be causing this issue? Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
At first I thought this might have been a software issue, but as it persisted after the reset I'm beginning to think this might not be the case.
Thanks,
KaRsKiN
The problem is coming from the magnetometer. I have the same issue, please check this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1394264
The only workaround I found is to disable screen rotation and do a couple of restarts (not switch off). Of course, no compass in the end, but at least I can use the phone.

It is possible that your battery could be failing. See if att has one they will let you exchange.
If its not the battery then it could be a hardware issue. Just send it in for warranty if that is the case. You should still be covered as the phone is not yet a year old.

How should this be connected to the battery...?
Anyway, I think that it is a software issue rather than a hardware one. Maybe something is running in the background, using 100% of the cpu. You could try CPUNotify for realtime cpu monitoring.
If that doesn't work, you should try the magnetometer way. Maybe it's a new issue. Never heard about it though
I do what i want, because I can.

I'm not going to explain in detail about the relationship of voltages and CPU usage. The battery being bad can and has caused these exact issues. Just like if a power supply is failing it can cause a blue screen in windows. In android the phone rebooting itself or freezing is the equivalent to a blue screen. Since they have never rooted and are on a stock rom there is nothing except a hardware problem that would cause this. If the battery is not the culprit then one of the many components in the phone can cause freezes and reboots if it is failing. Android os does not allow a single task to take over the CPU. This is not a windows os. So like I said, just use your warranty and get it fixed. Stock phones should not be presenting this behavior, you would have to root it to cause these kind of problems.

Thanks for your help! My dad has the same device as me so I'll try swapping out the battery to see if this solves the problem. If not I'll try calling HTC to arrange a repair.
Any news? Was it the battery issue?
I m facing an awkward problem with my WFS's touch.... It works pretty fine with everything for sometime but after some irregular time, it starts acting erratically and I simply loose the focus on the screen...... the touch buttons automatically start acting until I lock the phone using power button.... As soon as I do so, it works like a charm again after sometime....
Notes:-
1. It doesn't happen in any particular ROM.
2. It doesn't happen in any particular apps.
3. It doesn't happen in any particular time interval, it just happens, sometimes after 10 seconds only, and sometimes not even for half an hour continuously.... (I was watching a movie on phone on mxplayer.... It worked pretty fine for about 45 minutes, and all of sudden, the touch closed the movie....... I turnt the screen off and then again came back, then it happened again within 10 to 20 seconds continuously for about 10 times so I got pissed off and kept the mobile aside.......)
4. I have tried almost everything out there related to touch fixes for WFS, like unlock freeze problem solutions etc, but neither of them happens to work in my case.....
5. I just have a hunch that its moisture problem.... I guessed, that when I use my phone's screen continuously, it works like a charm like earlier, but when the screen gets heated up ,it starts reacting erratically......
If anyone has any solution of at least knows the accurate problem, I wold b really thankful to them...........
I have tried using different ROMs, Kernels etc...........

I'm having same problem...
Some guys from forum suggested that it may be caused by using non-HTC charger or damaged charger...But my problem has not resolved after changing charger...
Do you have any other suggestion?
Sorry everyone, my apologies for breaking the rules.....
Solution
I went to HTC customer service center and they just saw the problem and said they'd require to update the touchscreen firmware.... I asked them to do it, so they asked me for some time to get it from other service center.... They said it'd flash everything, but as of now I'm not sure whether they're right or wrong, but I'm waiting for them to get the card....
Apologies again to everyone for opening a wrong topic.... I request the mods to remove this thread....
Hello @ All,
i have a specific problem with my Desire Z. For a few weeks my touchscreen is nonresponsiv on lockscreen when i wake up my phone.
So i cant unlock the phone. After i press off button and on button again, then the touchscreen is responsiv on the lockscreen.
This failure happens randomly, but when it comes, then i can repeat the failure.
I tested this with CyanogenMod 7.2, 7.1 . I run the phone with 7.2 or before 7.1 since last year, but the failure happens first since a few weeks. I buy the phone in december 2011.
I search the forum for an solution or a similar failure but did not find something like this behavior.
Please can someone help me or maybe someone knows an Answer?
p.s. Sorry about my bad english, because i am from germany.

I have wiped several times, installed 7.1 and 7.2 several times, but finally now i am back because after install the last time i do not install all apps i prefer and first i thought the problem app may be google drive, but after a while the phone acts like before with the same failure. After that i uninstall avast and now the phone seems to work fine.
i will check this for a few days and will post my experience.
thanks for reply

How can i proof this in my System?
It seemed to be a fault with some apps.
first after i install the avast AV on my system it will happen again and after uninstalling it the failure goes away again.
then i choose to install another AV App (AVG free) but after a while the problem will come again and after uninstalling avg it will never happen since then.
does anyone else have such problems with those or similar apps?
Another important fact is that it really only happens when I have the phone longer carried in my pants pocket. I now have multiple antivirus apps and google drive repeatedly uninstalled and reinstalled and nothing helps.
PLEASE DON'T TRY THIS FIX! If you are experiencing any touch screen irregularities, then it IS HARDWARE related. Use the warranty of the phone and either request a new device, or get a different device. Ignore the remainder of this post and the thread.
Sorry if this is very long and boring, but saying it all now saves everyone from saying it later
There is a massive problem that the Z1 suffers from, an erratic touch screen.
Some people have the problem, whilst others don't. I am one of the unlucky owners of a Z1 which has this problem :crying:
People report that the screen registers an input, then shortly losses the input and then regains it, making web browsing difficult as anything you scroll by could be clicked by accident.
I suffer from that and then some. If I use the phone for a prolonged period of time (usually 20 minutes), the screen will register my input at completely different places to where my finger actually is!
This makes normal use almost impossible since you have no control as to where it will register your input.
Oddly enough, locking the phone for a few seconds (just long enough so that the phone falls into deep sleep) then waking it again makes the problem disappear temporarily. It does start doing it again eventually. This happens regardless of phone temperature. This also proves that the issue isn't hardware related, as if it was then it should be doing this all the time, regardless of anything.
Trying to do a clean install fails to fix the issue (at least for me), and even the highly anticipated KitKat update failed to address the issue, despite them claiming that KitKat will fix it (it didn't work for me).
NOW comes the possible solution. Since I know that this could not be a hardware issue, there must be a way to fix it via the software.
I researched a lot and found something that could fix the issue.
I'm saying this now. I don't guarantee that this will fix the problem, but trying won't hurt anyone
I didn't do a nandroid backup (I'm on 4.4.2 = no system mount in recovery), but if you feel uncomfortable with this, then by all means make one
You will need the following:
Root
Terminal Emulator
Any file explorer with root access
External microSD Card
Any stock/stock based Sony ROM (try the fix on other custom ROMS if you want. No harm in trying, cough NANDROID IS YOUR FRIEND )
1: Open up the Terminal Emulator
2: Type in "su" with no inverted commas.
3: Type in the following command: touch /sdcard1/Calibration.ini
There must be a space between "touch" and "/".
If done right, you should get no response (no message at all, just back to "[email protected]:/ #"
4: Enter and after that, shutdown the phone. Whilst it is booting, do not touch the screen. You can safely touch the screen after it is done booting (when you can see the UI). You can also reboot it instead of shutting it down, but I found that a proper shutdown works better (your mileage may very).
5: Goto a file explorer and delete the "Calibration.ini" file. This will prevent the phone from calibrating the screen after every reboot (not needed since it has just been calibrated).
6: All done :highfive:
Now, test the phone properly and see if the problem is gone.
If you have the time and patience, I recommend setting the screen timeout to 30 minutes and using the phone without letting the screen turn off. If it doesn't do anything strange in that time, then you can safely assume that the problem is gone for good :highfive:
Ever since I did this, the problem has ceased to be. It has gone and met its maker
Hopefully you will have the same results
Even if it didn't work, there was no harm in trying
Good luck! :good:
Note: For the app that does the same thing as this method, see post #2
Please link sources where you found all this info? I found threads about three years old using this method on G-Tablet and stuff from back in the day but wonder if it's still actually working.

Those which you posted are not exactly the ones I discovered.
That would be this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1960416
I knew about that app also, but I don't want to risk using it. I think that the manual method is better since it can work on any phone (or at least I think every phone)
That app may only be developed for a specific device and using it on other devices sounds like trouble to me.
Either way, the manual method worked for me. I severely doubted it would work but it did. I tested the phone for at least 1 hour straight without letting the display turn off. Game after game I ran, battery drained by at least 18% and there was not a sign that the screen was going to bugger out again
I even set the screen timeout to 30 minutes just to make sure it won't sleep.
Still no sign of the problem, 5 hours later
I haven't rebooted it yet. I don't know if it will come back once a reboot has happened...
Seems to be working
I did your method and also changed the touch filter level from 2 to 5 as mentioned in another thread. I havent had the issue since, not sure if it was your method or his or a combination of the 2, but really glad its gone. Thanks a million.

I'm very glad to see that people are having positive results with the terminal method and even the application that was linked earlier
Doubted that the application world work
I have to add this though. After testing a bit more, the problem hasn't come back. However, I did discover that wiping cache and delvik will make the problem come back again with a vengeance. So, I did the fix again and what do you know? Problem is gone again
One last thing. Every time the phone boots up with the Calibration.ini file, you might get different results with regards to calibration. I recommend that once you are contempt with the outcome of the calibration, DELETE THE FILE ASAP!
Also, shutdown the phone instead of rebooting it
Have fun
