Hello,
My htc one x screen is completely broken. I want to recover my data on my pc. When I plug it into my pc through usb, the computer only recognizes it as CD drive and charges my phone. On devices and printers option in control pannel it appears as android phone and when I try to browse it, it gives two option, one is CD and other one is removable disk, but removable disk is like blocked. I have tried several ways from the internet, but nothing seems to work out. I have also contacted HTC they only advised me to download HTC Sync Manager, but this as well does not recognize my device. I have also tried to use Kies, from a troubleshooter I found that I need Bluetooth Peripheral Device, which I was unable to find over the internet.
The phone had the pattern lock before the screen was broken.
If anyone of you have any information about how to get my data back, please help me out. I will highly appreciate your effort.
Thank you.
**pardon me if there's something wrong I am doing in this thread, as this is my very first post.
1: Is it unlocked ?
2: custom rom ?

The phone had pattern lock when it broke down, so yes it is lock.
I do not understand what you meant by custom rom and recovery?
Did you unlock the bootloader and put on a custom recovery to flash different roms. Or is it full factory stock ?
I'm guessing it's not unlocked. Does the screen switch on at all so you can see the display? Or is it completely black when you try and switch it on?

yes it has a keypad lock. I am unable to see the screen, it is completely dark. I just can see the lights of the bottom keys when the phone is turned on or when I swipe my fingers continuously on the screen. It might be the digitizer and other screen layers that are broken completely from inside.
Do you have ADB debugging enable previously? If yes, you could use frame buffers to reflect the display on PC.

Unfortunately no, is there any way that I can do it to get my data recover. I've heard that in order to get the display on PC and then use it the device needs to be rooted. Since I am unable to connect through usb, I do not know if I am able to do adb thing.

Try switching your phone completely off then booting it up in recovery mode. Obviously you won't be able to see whats on the screen, but it might let you access your data on the SD card through your computer?
Are you still under warranty? If you're not rooted and havent enabled ADB debugging then that might be your best bet.

I am afraid that If I boot my phone in a recovery mode, it might give me the same thing, not a removable disk but CD drive.

I don't believe the stock recovery supports mounting your phone as a USB device...can someone comment on this?
That being the case, and if the screen is blank and non-responsive, your PC does not recognize the device and does not mount it properly...I really cannot see how it will be possible to recover your data.
Sorry mate, I think you're out of luck.

Im REALLY hoping that you found a way to retrieve your data.. I found this post because i googled the exact question. My phone screen is completely destroyed so i cant do anything with it. Hello Jami,
Luckily, I got all of my data recovered after following another android phone. Basically, what I did was I turned on my phone, and tried to make the same pattern unlock that I had in order to make the phone work, every time I make the pattern, I go to the USB drive to make it disk drive, as far as I remember, and hope for it to work. I actually followed the steps to get there from another android device. By several trial and errors, I guess I was able to make the pattern unlock or something just happened that my phone got visible to my PC. If this doesn't work for you, try calling HTC if you have IMEI number of your device, they are helpful. They will also suggest to actually download HTC sync manager, try doing this as well. Another option for you maybe if you have another person owning the same device as yours, try removing the back cover of both of the phones, and basically switch the display chip, I do not know what do you call this chip but this is at the top right corner of the cellphone that connects the display to the circuit. So, you can just plug another similar device's chip there and you will be able to see the display of your cell phone, and you can easily get your data back from there.
I hope you will get all your data back soon!
Best regards,
Namra

Hello,
I have the Galaxy S II T989 (Tmobile) and the screen got broken and is completely black. But The phone is working and i can start it and feel the vibe at start and after it starts, i cant tap the bottom 4 buttons and they light up.
My phone was protected by pattern password. So when i connect the phone to USB and launch Kies , it asks me to unlock it...
But i can't since my screen is broken and doesn't light up.
Is there a way to download the internal contents of the flash memory (not the SD card) to the PC somehow?
I have tons of pictures and video clips that are very important to me.
Please help.
Paul.
Is USB debugging enabled? If so, you may be able to pull the files that way. You may also be able to do it through recovery (hold both volume buttons down at powerup while not USB connected). If you can get adb access, you can use it to pull the pictures that way.

When you say to boot into recovery, do you refer to VOL_UP + VOL_DOWN + PWR buttons at boot ? When you get to the menu that you can select between Device reboot, Firmware update using external memory, etc...
Or are you referring to something else?
Thanks much!

Dont know how broken your screen is or what recovery you have, but yes, that's what I mean. There is an option somewhere in recovery to mount drives.

What recovery you have? Being that your LCD is shattered I could guide you step by step on how many clicks on the volume rocker to access on latest cmw. Since it doesnt work the same on twrp I can you guesstimate the location on touch and maybe your screen could recognize it enough to enable you to mount from recovery..

Best bet is either through ADB access either with USB Developer Mode turned on or using ADB in recovery to pull the files. Neither one of those options requires using the phone more than turning it on. How was the phone set up before the LCD broke? Did you root it? Did you put a new recovery on it? Or was it completely stock. If it was completely stock, go fix the LCD and then access it, there's no way around it... well... actually, you could get into Download Mode, flash a recovery, then access it that way.

I'm able to use the HDMI converter and "SEE" the screen of the phone on my TV. However, i cannot unlock it (it had the pattern lock) because the touch screen is not responding to my touch. I guess the touch sensor is broken.
It is a stock phone. never rooted it.
I was trying to get to recovery mode by pressing POWER and VOL UP and DN, but i wasn't able to see anything on my TV. Could it be that the HDMI converter into TV only works when the phone is booted normal and doesn't work in recovery mode.
How can i get it to download mode and flash the recovery?

Yeah, I don't think the drivers to show on the TV screen would be loaded while in Download Mode.
There's still hope, you can still install a recovery without actually needing the touchscreen. Once in recovery, you'll be able to access your system files through adb and pull whatever you need onto your computer.
You'll have to do it all blind though because you won't be able to see if the phone has successfully rebooted into recovery. I can walk you through it step-by-step if you feel it's that important to you to recovery whatever data is on the phone.
Buy a new Phone.

Update:
I got a replacement phone and using some youtube clips and info, i swapped the boards between the two phones. So I was able to start the phone (old board, new screen), and simply transferred all data to the computer.
Now, i will put it back together and be all done.
I also enabled USB debug mode...for next time....
Thank you so much for the help.

Hello Senior Member ,
I too have a similiar dilemma. My Note 2 has a cracked screen and its all black . I am not sure the digitizer is in working condition . Although I have alot of files I wish to recover. Its been nearly a year Ive held on to it just to recover data. My phone is stock , NO ROOT and unfortunately USB Debugging has been turned off. Mind you, its a korean version, model SHVE250K . I do not want to chance rooting if I can not see the screen . I am afraid of making a mistake. ANY advice and ideas would be greatly appreciated. I would feel more confident working on it, with someone more experienced guiding me along the way.
Three letters with one word= MHL cable. I do it all the time with one of my t989's.
Now im soo broke, I cant even pay attention!

If the HML cable works but doesn't respond to touch, then both the lcd AND digitizer are broken. Replacement screens have gotten sooo much cheaper than a year ago, they're like $65 now. I fix em all the time.

I should have not done this.
After one last message (something like copy binary from SD card) the device was dead.

No I cant.
All combinations (power, volume home etc.. failed)
Removed back cover, disconencted battery
No result.
How did you remove the back cover?
I've been able to get mine out of pickles not involving the /boot partition by holding down the volume down, home and power keys simultaneously. Shortly after the model 5110 message displays, I release power and am asked if I really want to put the device into update mode.
I use Odin to write in the firmware I downloaded from samfirmware a few weeks ago.
I needed to do this last night after trying to disable a few system apps. I'm not sure which, probably a thing called "bubble," but as soon as I had, the device froze. A reboot went all the way through but then locked up after my startups finished.
I also needed to do this after something much closer to a soft brick involving trying to use the Xposed framework to change lcd density.
I reflashed and was able to defrost and I was back in business.

I removed it by gently prying the white back cover of.
I would recommend agains it because its delicate.
But I think you would advice me agains bricking my device.

It wont show the charging again when charging.

something just occurred to me - you've pulled out your sdcard and set it aside? sometimes a bodgy sdcard can get in the way of boot up, though it seems unlikely here.
It doesn't seem that patching the framework, even if it keeps you from booting past the model # screen, should be able to keep the device from at least powering on.
If you connect it to your PC and try holding in power for ~30 seconds, does any USB device or android device activity occur at all, even if a device appears and disappears again?
I did find that I had a "konawifi" device attached to my PC and needed to update its driver to access the device in CWR mode.

I pulled the SD card
This afternoon I will try your tip (connecting it to the PC)
I also will try a jig although I think this is useless
My last resort is back to Samsung. I have 2 choices, repair or make a frisbee out of it. I prefer the first option especially beacause I was rather pleased with the device
I tried making a jig when I bricked my Galaxy Media Player, and it did not work. Samsung repaired it, eventually.

Okay, so recently installed the 4.4.2 OTA on my completely stock nexus 7 (unrooted, bootloader still locked).
Tried connecting to my PC via bluetooth (for headset) and noticed that it wasnt working (was working on 4.4), so decided that maybe a reboot would fix the problem.
And now the tablet doesn't boot. Completely unresponsive, no charging icon etc. either. Tried holding down the power button, power and +/- vol for 20+ secs to no avail. Connecting the tablet to my laptop makes windows update search for the QHSUSB_DLOAD driver. From what I've read this is supposed to be some sort of hardbrick?
I left the tablet completely stock and haven't done any tinkering except use the Wugfresh toolkit to do a backup (which only needed USB debugging on). Also the battery was definitely 60%+ before I attempted rebooting.
Help please? This is completely out of the blue seeing as I never even unlocked the bootloader or anything?
Please help!

Hmm, well, last ditch would be to charge it overnight, and hold the power button down for several minutes, if that doesn't do it, you may have to just use the warranty.

Alright so still no dice. Warranty is out of the question because I bought an imported version off eBay before it was officially available on Google play here in India.
From what I've understood this may be recoverable. People have made fixes for some HTC devices etc. Basically if someone could makes a "QCN" backup from a working device I may be able to restore the bootloader using the Qualcomm drivers. Or would this tool be of any use?

Not too familiar with all this low level flashing stuff - so need a second opinion. Will try again today evening, leaving it unplugged this time.

Yeah, I don't know much about that either, sorry, I'm not going to be much help there.
Ok, am I the first person with this problem? When the device is plugged in to the PC and I try holding down the buttons (tried almost every combo I could think of) the disconnect/connect sound plays and the tablet is re-detected by device manager as QHSUSB_DLOAD. Im extremely disappointed that this can happen even without screwing around with the system.
The warranty card with the tablet seems to imply international warranty although not specifically stated, it's from the US, so would taking it to an Asus center in India be of any use?

Downloaded them, I think a USB driver is needed for the tablet to show up as a COM port, I've tried a few drivers but QPST Configuration was unable to connect. Even if it were able to connect I dont know what to do after that, it seems that some device-specific hex/qcn/xml files are needed and this is the mode the manufacturer uses when flashing the bootloader. Does this mean that my bootloader somehow magically corrupted itself?!

That's exactly the thing, it doesnt get into fastboot mode or anything, I assume you need a working bootloader to be able to boot fastboot? If it was in fastboot I would have attempted this already.
Anyway the seller says that the item is covered under a 1 year international warranty, thats my only chance now I guess....
The thing that concerns me is that I was completely stock, locked bootloader and unrooted. Only installed the official OTA updates (no sideloading either).
For those who are interested - I finally had time to drop by the service centre. They replaced the battery and motherboard (it was under warranty). I was expecting them to do some magic with QPST or something though.
The same has just happened to me, but I'm out of luck, the warranty has expired.
Did anyone have managed to fix it with the QPST drivers?
thanks.

LGD851_20140611_LGFLASHv160
LGD851AT-01-V10c-310-260-JUN-20-2014+0
Yes I have set the port to 41 in device manager.
What the heck is wrong?
Someone please help I was supposed to fly out of state today but now I don't think I can without a phone and I can't afford a new one, I'm a student
Did you put your phone in download mode? It's not broken you just need to successfully flash it. It says download mode failed so here's a simple way to enable it if you ate having trouble. Pull out the battery then hold volume down and put it back it and plug in the cable. This should be done in a relatively fast manner to enable it if you are having issues getting into download mode.
Edit I know you said you put it in DL mode but I had a similar issue with my F400S so its worth a try.

I tried it, same error at 14 seconds. Tried taking the battery out after the yellow ready button comes up to and doing it that way, nada
Did you try using LG PC Suite --> Tools --> Fix Upgrade Problems?
The steps can have different names (didn't remember the names) but something like that, worked for me when I messed up my system

LG PC Suite didn't recognize it before, does it need to be in download mode when I do that? Or is there another recovery mode?
*EDIT* Just discovered this log, maybe someone's familiar with the codes and has an idea what to do
Bump please help I don't want to use a warranty claim

I may have found the solution for another member, but it is untested from me, as I am at work at the moment. In flashtool did you change the action mode? if not try changing the action mode to board dl instead of what its set to. Let me know, because I got the same issue right now.

damn, I'm on Sprint variant, only thing I haven't tried is lg suite and making sure my Flashtool is the latest version. I've tried everything else last night for 6 hours.
edit: my dl mode is working perfect. I see in your Flashtool, your error is slightly different. mine gets stuck at 93%. Then it reboots back to this

PC Suite won't recognize it if you don't use the correct version. The latest from LG's site is in fact the wrong version. You need the version that's about 223mb in size. Sorry, I'm not sure of the version and am currently busy fixing my phone with it, so can't check. Perhaps someone would kindly supply you with a download link.

Will it work even if my phone doesn't show up in explorer? My pc makes a sound when it is plugged in and unplugged in Download Mode but the only thing so far to recognize it is flash tool. If you can check the version please let me know but I'll look for it
Did you try a different USB port on your computer? Drivers get honked up easily using flashing tools and sometimes using a different port, or even a different USB cable can fix your problem. More likely another usb port, but I've also had a bad cable as well.

That's the problem is the only cable that works is the one that came with it, and I've used 3 of my 4 on my laptop, so I doubt it's the port

Also you have to realize the phone doesn't turn on. I get the LG logo, download mode, or factory reset. That's it
If that is the only cable that works - my guess is there's something probably wrong with the micro usb jack on your phone.. it shouldn't be that finicky where only 1 of 4 cables would work. If you do a warranty return, you might get lucky anyways. Several folks have posted on XDA that the stores where they returned phones were either clueless or didn't care about the status of the root code. Of course, YMMV.

You misunderstand: The cable that comes with the G3 is the only one GUARANTEED to work with these operations. Has nothing to do with the jack. Getting a new one in the mail tomorrow, can't tell if it's rooted if they can't access the filesystem
Hello,
Recently, after dropping my phone, the screen became slowly non-responding to touch (lcd fluid leaking), and ever since the screen became fully black (I can't see anything) and therefore made unlocking my phone impossible. (I have the pattern to unlock and the sim pin) I really want to extract data from my phone, but USB debugging is disabled on it, auto play doesn't work, my pc detects the phone but can't extract any data (I can only see the phone in the hidden icons, devices and printers (marked as "non-specified) and in auto play and but the only selection I can make is either "Take no action" or "Ask me everytime") I've tried several android extraction softwares, but most of them are not compatible with my phone (Samsung Galaxy A5 2017, SM-520F) I've tried Dr Fone, PawLab, FoneLab, (These are not compatible with my device) and Kies 3 can't detect my samsung. Connecting a mouse to my phone wouldn't be useful since the screen is pitch black. I am very desperate and I have no ideas left on what to do. My phone still works, it can charge and connect to a computer but it's locked and usb debugging is unfortunately disabled... Any ideas on what I can do to extract the data from it? Thank you
edit: nevermind actually

Nono..sorry I forgot that Samsung encrypts their firmware so you can't access it via TWRP.

Oh ok... So got no ideas on what I can do then?
Same situation
Hey, I have the same situation here: Broken screen on Galaxy A5 (2017) SM-A520F, therefore unable to unlock and/or turn on USB debugging; no recovery program seems to support it.
Why would Samsung encrypting their firmware prevent us from proceeding?
Wouldn't the first step be to flash a new firmware anyway?
Or are you saying that storage data is also encrypted?
What are the AIO recovery solutions out there doing exactly? It seems they start out by trying to install some recovery...
It really feels like it should be possible to save the data. Come on, can't we do this??

Just restore Google or Samsung backup on your new phone. Basically the only option.
