I remember updating my phone to CWM Recovery 6.0.3.1 awhile back but I haven't a clue what I did to achieve the update. I downloaded the newest version but I can't remember what I do with the .IMG file..
Any help? Do I use Odin? I'm on a Mac and I don't remember if I did this on my Windows laptop or not. I would really like to update to 6.0.3.6 so I can safely support flashing Android 4.3 ROM's and start testing out the new ones as they're released.

Odin is preferred to push .img or .tar files. ..
They don't call it rom "mangler" for nothing. ..
And users, especially new ones, or those new to Samsung. ...should learn to use Odin and understand it's benefits. ..
Rom manager is a poor interface for sending files to a device, especially at the recovery level. ..as it leaves no recourse to correct its own errors. ...g

Umm.. no? It was CWM 6.0.3.6 at the time I made this post, the current CWM is 6.0.4.3 so there wasn't much of an update from there. I found a way to do this using terminal emulator so I got it figured out.

I have the TMobile Galaxy s3 rooted on most recent stock firmware. I installed a new font using rom toolbox after backing up firmware with TWRP, so it though. After installing the font I got a message telling me to reboot for changes to take effect. Reboot hangs at the glowing Samsung logo. I have rebooted in to recovery and it comes up with CWM recovery vice TWRP some how? I know I flashed TWRP through rom toolbox but it didn't take apparently. I did get a message that backup was successful. CWM will not recognize TWRP backup. I need a flashable zip for the correct TWRP recovery. Could someone please point me in the right direction for the TWRP recovery file or to get me out of this boot loop. Should I just flash the stock firmware?

When you install it and choose for the custom recovery it will open Odin and ull have I think 3 options for the T-Mobile s3 just choose the teamwinsrecory I think its the last one on the list and flash it thru Odin: ) hope it helps out

I was able to get the team win recovery but the backup I made did not show up there either. I guess I will have to flash the stock rom and start over again. I don't know what I did wrong, thought I had backed up with TWRP. Kinda weird how stock recovery comes back after a new one is flashed. If I reboot into recovery now I get stock after being able to access TWRP and rebooting. Next time I go in I am back in stock? Don't know I will have to find a fix after I get back to stock.

I bought Rom Manager app and I downloaded clockworkmod recovery version 6.0.2.3 on my T-mobile S3.... I started flashing CM 10.1 mods a couple weeks ago and I just recently read about other people bricking their phones using Rom Manager to flash roms. Is it safe for me to use Rom Manager to flash the latest CM 10.1 updates? (I don't want to brick)
Thanks!

Sorry, I should have been more clear. When "pushing" the recovery image to the phone you open terminal and do dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img(whatever the filename is of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18 using root.
See my post above about the IMEI backup.
Rom manager is not good for flashing ROMs. I used it to get recovery updated ( from free version ) and flash rom manually.

Hey there, I am totally new to flashing ROMs and have been exclusively using ROM Manager to flash several new ROMs as I try them out to see what I like.
My experience has been very good. I did have a problem trying to flash LiquidSmooth ROM onto my TMO, ended up having to Odin back to stock and then reroot...but I chalked that up to my own stupidity at having not flashed the Gapps, and thereby locking myself out of Google Play Store and other needed stuff.
Whatever you do, just make sure you backup. I even have made and then flashed backups from ROM Manager...so my experience has been good.
Good luck whatever you decide to do
I've been using Rom Manager (across several phones) since it came out, and never had a problem with it. I personally prefer CWM Touch over TWRP, maybe just since I've been using CWM for so long. As far as GooManager.... that thing annoys me to no end. If you're worried about the app causing problems though, I would just download the updates then reboot into recovery and flash from there.

Exactly what I do. Only flash the recovery through rom manager but reboot into recovery yourself if your flashing a rom. If the developer says to wipe, well please do yourself a favor and wipe. Titanium backup will make your life simple as well.

So.. I flash this using ODIN, then I try and load into recovery and it's still the stock Android one. "Android Recovery e3" or something. How can I override the stock and get this one? I want to load CM10 stable.

Hey guys,
Before you all kill me for posting about this, I've spent close to 6 hours researching, watching Youtube videos, browsing the forums, etc. before I've come here and post as a last resort.
Brief Summary of problem:
I wanted to root my S3 to CM 10.2 and downloaded Odin 3.09 with the TWRP recovery (file name: openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.1-d2spr.tar). I went ahead and put it into Download mode and flashed the it with TWRP, but like an idiot I didn't hit back up. I ended up doing a complete wipe of the OS so I can't even go back. I tried to flash CM 10.2 onto the phone, but kept running into errors. I ended up using Odin and put on ClockworkMod to see if that'd work. I ended up getting error 7, then did the binary fix by removing the checks, and got error 4s. I even tried to get the stock ROM to see if that could be put on there, but to no avail. I'm out of patience and options at this point and could use any help I can get to get my phone back
Phone Stats:
Sprint Samsung S3
Android 4.3 (installed via OTA)
Let me know if there is anything else you guys need to know to help me out. Much appreciated!

Don't use a pit file and don't check repartition.
Flash and you're back to stock and up & running.
I used cf auto root to root mine after that flashing the newest supersu in recovery.
Only use Philz latest recovery.
After you've rebooted open supersu and you should be asked if you'd like to disable Knox.

i'M ON 4.4.2 now
Anyone to revert back to 4.2?
You can go down to 4.1.2 (we never got 4.2) but it is not something most people want to try. You can end up in a soft brick state where nothing will boot and no stock odin files will work. Then you have to flash a special fix to make your phone usable.
So why would you want to try that? If you just want stock odin the current NE2 tar from samsung.

Getting back to stock cont. . .
Soooo,
I was on a mission to flash custom kernel when all hell broke loose. Long story short list:
1. I have done a system wipe which has erased my OS
2. My device was rooted with the binary count tripped so I can't revert to stock rom *
3. I can't go back to the custom rom that I was on because there's no OS *
* = is this true
Question is, is there a way to either reset the counter so I can go back to stock rom OR get a custom rom that has the stock framework underneath already that I can just flash?
I'm totally stuck. . .and I dropped my phone in the middle of this debacle and cracked the screen
I'd try going into download mode and flashing the stock NE2 tar through Odin...

Did you try flashing a custom recovery through Odin yet? I would suggest trying to flash philz latest version through Odin.
Turn off auto reboot in Odin. Once it's complete, pull the battery. Put the battery back and and reboot into download mode (power+home+volume down buttons at the same time)
Edit. Before doing the above, have you unzipped the tar file on your pc?
