I just noticed that all tw camera controls are extremely slow. I mean when I select one of the top buttons to set various options, it pops up menu and scrolling inside it is really slow... I don't mess with the settings very much so I'm not sure when it started happening, I wanted to set options for night shooting (ISO 800, no flash, low light mode) and noticed this. Is this mormal or I have some problem?

I notice this in opera, and today in the facebook app too, and was really baffled. The effect is quite subtle, but repeatable. When moving my finger around the screen, eg on the bbc news website panning to the top left, my screen dims. It stays dim when I remove my finger, and brightens again when I pan back down to the right.
Weird, huh?
So far it's just a curiosity and not an annoyance. Has anyone else seen this?
So I am not the only one who noticed this. I sometimes find this behaviour a bit annoying, especially in low light.
The phone has an ambient light sensor. It is adjusting because you are causing a shadow over it.
You can probably turn it off
Under the power settings/backlight - auto adjust backlight. Just uncheck it.
Any idea where the sensor is located?
Do you really think it is the ambient/light sensor? I sure don't. Scrolling through different websites I can easily reproduce this:
You scroll from one point to another, this just has to be a couple of pixels, and the screen adjusts the brightness. That is within a room with a fixed source of light and I am keeping my body as constant as possible to avoid the shadowing.
Scrolling from point A to point B makes the backlight adjust itself, even without casting any shadows or similar. Scrolling back from B to A makes the backlight instantly adjust itself back.
It's your finger causing the shadow, not your body. If you introduce an object into an ambient light source, you will find that said object will reduce the ambient light by a percentage due to partial or total obstruction. The light sensor is detecting this percentage and adjusting the screen accordingly.
The sensor itself is somewhere near the speaker.
I'm pretty sure this doen't have anything to do with the light sensor UNLESS it's cause by the screen itself becoming brighter and this registering on the light sensor, eg internal light leak.
My best guess is that it's connected to the presence/absence of certain colours on the screen, and is related to the video driver. Next time I get it I'll see if I can reproduce when scrolling via the kbd, to eliminate the theories about casting shadows on the screen.
This is not FINGER SHADOW!!!
You can notice this same thing when you plaing Solitare cards and using Stylus.
I'm sure i did't do any shadows and anyway when i pick up any card and moving aroud screen u can notice screen brighting up and down.
Using Opera 9.5, on this site http://game-board.blogspot.com/2008/05/alternative-monopoly-rules-and-game.html zoom in with double-click, scroll about half way down to the paragraph beginning "property has too much pollution on it", then scroll up and down and notice the change in screen brightness. please post if you can repeat. it does not work with the keyboard.
btw, does anyone know monopoly "bloodbath" alternative rules?
I've noticed my screen doing this without causing any shadows & without even touching the screen at all, like a 'breathing effect' when it is completely idle. I think it has something to do with light sensor polling interval which is editable via the registry, advance config and HD tweak...but since I flashed NRGZ ROM (21/08/09 build) this issue has gone anyway.
Searched.
Running the stated ROM. I find that whenever I return to the camera app the brightness setting is at -4.0
Now, at first I thought it was running automatically. Never having heard of that mod I searched for it. There is no automatic way to measure the light, or lack thereof, that the lens is receiving.
This is very annoying as I have to set the brighness levels back towards the middle of the meter everytime I use the camera. All the other levels keep, just not the brightness.
Any input would be much appreciated
So, I'm coming from an AT&T HTC One XL and I have a handful of questions. The screen and the camera on the HOXL were borderline perfection in my opinion, but the phone had a few flaws led me to an SIII.
1) The auto brightness on the SIII is laughable. The HTC One X was seamless and smooth with its auto brightness adjustment, and I never once turned auto brightness off. I have had the SIII for a day and I cannot stand it. Are there any solutions out there for the jerkiness and delay of the SIII's auto brightness function? If not, what do most of you keep your brightness at? Right now, I'm finding ~70% to be fair. Anything below that is a sacrifice and I don't do sacrifices for battery life.
2) Pentile.... I cannot stop noticing the pentile. Granted, I am coming from perfection in terms of screen quality I was hoping it wouldn't be this noticeable. To exacerbate the issue, I use my phone an awful lot as an e-reader. My eyes were playing games with me while using the Kindle App last night (same settings as One X). I kept blinking as I thought it was a result of my eyes, but it was the screen. The font simply does not have smooth, sharp edges. Will my eyes get used to this or is this going to be a constant battle?
3) I recall a setting on my GS2 where I could sync up phone call ringtone volume and notification volume when I adjusted the volume on the side of the phone. I did not find this setting on the SIII. Does one exist? I
4) One the One X, when I had headphones in, notifications and phone calls would be pumped through the headphones instead of the loudspeaker. Is there a setting I can enable where ringtone and notification tone flow through headphones when attached?
Thanks!

1- I personally use a modded auto brightness but you can probably find a app that will do a better job at it than stock firmware. I believe there are some in here as well (in the app section of XDA).
2- Never had a android that didn't have a SAMOLED screen so I don't know what difference you're talking about. Although, I use my phone quite a lot as well and my eyes don't get tired. Keep in mind that screen brightness too high = damages your eyes, too low = hard on your eyes.
3- Settings -> Sound -> Volumes -> check link volume.
4- That should be on by default. If it's not, there's either a app that changed it or you did yourself.
Btw, what firmware are you running?

Thanks for the reply!
3 - Don't see this setting...
4 - Ya know what, maybe I did. The only setting I changed was unchecking "connecting earphones will enable audio applications in quick panel" in the Accessory menu as I didn't like all the apps being displayed in the notification area. I wouldn't think those are related though...
EDIT: I'm on stock ATT 4.1.1
EDIT 2: Just tried checking the box I unchecked for the audio applications and notifications still play through loudspeaker..
I always take photos of my kids playing, but i noticed a big problem with the G4 camera that any moving object looks blurred in the photos even if the movment is slow (eg. Turning heads etc.).
I did not have this problem with my previous Galaxy S5.
Anybody noticed this problem?
Someone mentioned that the camera seems to want to use slow shutter speeds and low ISO values, when left in Auto mode.
As Auto does not provide any adjustments at all, you'd either have to use Manual mode, or try another camera app that allows a little more control. Something to force the camera to use a higher ISO setting, and a faster shutter speed, which would help reduce blurring of moving objects.
Of course, this assumes you are in a well-lit area. If you're indoors, in a moderately-lit area, then you are going to have more trouble regardless.
Manually turn on the flash, that might help. You can toggle the flash mode even if the camera is in auto.
I have kids too and sometimes my pics of them come out blurry too...this is outdoors with a ton of light. These out of focus shots are not a shutter speed thing but more of an auto focus problem.
The camera always wants to re-grab focus whenever you take a picture when the subject is moving. My kids will be in the frame, in focus (green squares on screen to confirm) I push the camera button, then the damn software tries and refocus because my kids are running around, the auto focus pics the wrong focal point and then the shutter snaps...out of focus pic.
I too came from the S5 which had better software. On that phone, if I turned off burst shot, pushing and holding down the camera button would cause the camera to focus on the subject and lock it in, then when I released my finger, it would take an almost instantaneous picture and keep focus... end result always sharp pics of my kids even when running (as long as there was lots of light).
If G4 could have that feature, all would be perfect!
Ah, in that case, maybe try touching the screen to cause the camera to focus on the spot you touched. But, instead of touching the spot where your moving kids are, try touching a non-moving spot on the ground near them, but at the same focal distance. That way, your kids will also be in focus. If that still doesn't work, then maybe switch to manual mode to hold the focus manually.
Has anyone tried to create or save any manual camera mode quick settings? For instance, something that would launch the camera in manual mode with the shutter and ISO locked in for motion photography, and another for low light photography? It seems like 90% of the time that I launch the manual camera, I'm going for one of these 2 things. It'd be convenient if most of the settings were already locked in where I want them to end up! :good:
This makes no sense to me, because the light conditions are not always the same. One setting may work in the scenario you created it, but not for another, even if they are similar. By the way, I have this function on my D7100, but I only find using it when shooting with artificial lights (speedlight).
