Hi all
Does anyone know where one can buy this tablet without paying $20 tax. This $20 is putting me a little over budget with all the accessories I'm getting as well. I'm currently planning on buying it by Amazon.
Check slickdeals, otherwise I think you have to bite the bullet

I got mine from Newegg.com -- used a coupon to get it down to 214.99 and then there was no tax and free shipping.. really depends on your state. some sites charge in certain states and others charge tax in different states.
Ah! I see, I'm from South Africa but I am probably shipping it to San Francisco, does anyone know if newegg charges tax there cause amazon defiantly does

Buy from the Play store and have it shipped to one of these states: Alaska, Montana, New Hampshire, Delaware or Oregon. Better hurry before those states decide they can use the extra consumer bucks.

Technically his purchasing devices for you on a tax exemption is illegal and tax evasion... The exemption has restrictions on how it can be used.

I understand what you are saying but does amazon have like a button to apply tax to certain purchases. Lets say I wasnt aware of all this and I just went to his place and placed the order knowing nothing about the tax thing as I do not live in America. Would it still be the same thing and how would one go about turning it off for one order.

if you know someone in a state that wont collect tax, you can have it shipped there. how you'll get it from that state is another matter LOL. last year I bought a Kindle Fire using my Amazon account (with a California billing address) and had it shipped to New Mexico. I wasn't charged sales tax. The Kindle Fire was a gift to the person in New Mexico.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=468512
Items sold by Amazon.com LLC, or its subsidiaries, and shipped to destinations in the following states are subject to tax:
Arizona
California
Kansas
Kentucky
New Jersey
New York
North Dakota
Pennsylvania
Texas
Washington
You could try buying it from B&H Photo Video in new york, they don't charge shipping or tax to California.
If the person you are shipping it to is someone you know well, you might want to ask them to check the unit out before sending it to you and make sure there aren't any issues with the screen, unless you're able to or willing to ship it back if something is wrong.
Massachusetts added to the list on a few months they already passed it. This state sucks. They up taxes on everything. Just became the 2nd highest state for ciggerette prices behind NY. Thank god I don't smoke

I am in US so shipping from there is <$700 now,
is it still the cheapest now?
Will it be cheaper after 12/9 that the canadian version had come out?
Who knows if you'll have to pay customs fees... I paid the extra $50 ($764) to go with a US reseller but they're being sketchy at the moment... See my post (Negri Electronics is being sketchy).
I'd say go US but maybe not Negri.. I'm sure everything is fine but still... You could pay more than you think with credit card international fees and customs fees depending on the shipping company they use.
EDIT -- I JUST GOT MY SHIPMENT NOTIFICATION!! WHOOOOO

International pricing is pretty firm. The UK prices aren't going to be effected by whatever happens in the rest of the world. A lot of folks in the UK and EU buy their phones outright so demand is what drives pricing. The SGS2 stayed pretty firm for about four months and then started to drop a bit. It's still over $500 having been out since May. If you're importing, don't look for bargains and sales because they don't exist (through legitimate resellers). I've bought from both Clove and Handtec and was pleased with both.
Found this: http://welectronics.com/gsm/Samsung/SAMSUNG_NEXUS-PRIME-TITANIUM-SILVER.HTML These guys are located in Chicago and selling for $724.99. Supposedly these prices are wholesale to the public. Anyone ever dealt with this retailer before?
how much is it gonna be in Canadian GSM version?
I imported from clove.uk to the US and they were great service. Shipped on a Wednesday, got here that Friday.
Though I must say, it shipped with DHL and the packaging was kinda sketchy for a $700 dollar electronic device. It was in a plastic DHL bag and the box the phone came in was just wrapped in fine-bubble bubble wrap. No damage and it works fine, but still kinda irked me when I saw it.

I ordered two GNs from clove which arrived today. No import duties. I have a thread in this forum showing the current policy regarding importing cellphones to the US (with documentation from the corresponding government agencies).
As for the packaging, I too am a little disappointed that they only used bubble wrap and a dhl bag. The corners of the boxes where slightly damaged; however, the phone itself was fine.
I preordered mine from Handtec and the experience was awesome. I ended up paying around $700 total and somehow the phone got to me within one day!!! It was awesome to see that tracking from Fedex on the day it was shipped telling me it would be at my doorstep by the very next day before 10:30am... now that's fast, especially coming from Europe!

Popular Electronics, which is right next door to Overseas Electronics has it for $699 in store - cash only. I plan to go there this week and buy myself one. $700 is the cheapest I've seen it go for. I've bought a phone and sold a phone from them before so they're legit.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/108564/IMG_4995.PNG
I decided to email Popular electronics about the Galaxy Nexus and it seems like they're willing to bargain about the tax. Chicago has ridiculous tax at 9.75% so the phone would have been $767.15. With a simple email, they were willing to do $710 flat. I'm sure when a little more persuasion, I could get them to $700 or throw in a free case. Just a heads up to all the Chicagoans. Probably pick this up this weekend.

Don't you find it kinda shady that they're cash only and are willing to negotiate to remove sales tax? lol. I'm sure its fine. Just sayin'.
That does seem odd that they have a cash only policy. Really weird for an electronics store. Maybe they have a no receipt policy too.
But back on topic, I just bought my nexus from clove last night. Order is processing and now it's just a waiting game!

When paying with cash, it's always considered under the table. They probably don't file their taxes legally so it helps them when people pay in cash. Good for both parties. They're a small electronics store, nothing huge but they do carry the latest phones.
Not sure about the receipt policy, probably isn't one but as long as it's brand new, I'll be happy.

You forget about the third party. The government and all society that utilizes tax money. (Including yourself)
Taxes are there for a reason and should not be avoided by dodgy business practices.
I would check the phone out in-store to reduce your risk of having to return the device since you may not be able to.

Of course it will be checked.
Tell that to Apple, Google, Facebook, Microsoft, IBM, Oracle and so on. They all dodge taxes. What they're doing it is legal but it's effects you also. It always seems like when a little business does it, they should be shunned by their practice. The way they're doing it is probably illegal but it's still dodging taxes.
http://publicintelligence.info/google-3-billion-tax-loophole/
Don't assume that paying with cash is always considered under the table.
Another reason for the cash policy is that is removes the credit card processing fees for the transaction. Depending on their processor, it should be around $0.25 + 2% of the transaction amount. So on a $700 transaction, that is roughly $14.25.
(American Express' fees are around 3.5%, so the cost on that transaction is around $25).
If you are a retailer, that extra credit card fee hurts quite a bit. Think about that the next time you buy a pack of gum with your credit card.
http://truecostofcredit.com/378767
That being said, in this instance their's a good chance that this is under the table. I would much rather buy the phone on my Amex and get the additional warranty they provide. Also, why not just import it from clove for $670 rather than paying $700 cash? Makes no sense to me.

Right now handtec.co.uk and clove.co.uk have the phone for $690. The phone was released yesterday on Bell Canada and is $650 off contract. But im not sure those of us in the states have access to that without a Bell Canada account. Has anyone else found it cheaper?

You're going to pay about the same price no matter who you order from. Even from Canada. Your other priority is who and how your warranty will be handled depending on who you buy from. You found the cheapest already so scratch.if you're itching that bad. I paid a premium to order from expansys in the states. I ended up paying $741 USD.

Hey guys, I really want to be able to get the international version of the One X (quad core) but I don't know where to get it or how much it will cost :/ or can I just not preorder it? That I'm okay with haha
You can order from expansys, it has worldwide delivery :

or http://clove.co.uk
Others may find you better deals
Wow! From clove I could get it for under 700$?!?!
Which is more reliable on-time delivery ?
Could have medialink to be perfect.
It's a matter of tax, don't know how they work.
I had some when I tried to order on it but am in Europe so...
Edit :
about delivery time expansys claims 3-4 days, probably the same for clove
Hmm.. How would I be able to find the tax amount you think? During order process?
Yeah i did like I was going to buy one, didn't need registration to see that if I remember well. When you choose delivery location it should tell you the price of tax and shipping

I am also from canada and i ordered from www.handtec.co.uk , anywhere you pre order outside of canada you will have to pay taxes and duty fee's to the delivery guy when it gets to your door, for the one x it will probably be around 80-100$ on top of what your gonna pay from the retailer. From past experience make sure they don't ship via UPS as they are horrible and charge handling fee's and stuff.

Fedex also charges handling fees. I have ordered from handtec before, and fedex delivers it around 2 days. Really quick service.
Handec declares the amount you paid for the device. So if for example you paid $700 for the device, you will pay the fedex guy upon delivery 12% tax (for BC) plus their handling fee.

i would be too worried about UPS showing up with my phone and asking for $75 or something. that would cause me to force a reversal at my bank then pick up the phone at UPS for $75. that would be an awesome deal, but i would feel bad about it.

I'm assuming the $75 you're talking about is for any import fees. Well I ordered my SGS2 from them and I did not have to pay anything to UPS. I also looked up import taxes/fees for mobile phones from other countries and it seems we only have to pay at max $2 so I wouldn't be worried about that at all.

I got this too, but I'm probably not going to use it, since samsung.com is overpriced retail AND you have to pay shipping for orders under $50, so you either break even or win by a tiny amount compared to just going with Amazon prime.
Example:
samsung.com: mhl adapter is $40 ($20 with 50% off) + $4 shipping == $24
amazon.com: mhl adapter is $27 + free shipping == $27.
EDIT2: And... the official MHL adapter is now selling for under $20 from top-sellers on Ebay with free shipping... So, no reason to buy from samsung.com really.

I hope you win since you are playing for shipping!

Hah. I edited that before you replied, but yeah, playing the shipping game is fun! It's like Pocket Planes!

I upgraded to the Galaxy S III on Monday of this week, it arrived Tuesday and when I registered I got the 50% off code in my email. On Wednesday I bought the top of the line Bluetooth Headset, the HM 6000, it retails for $59.95 on their site, but with the coupon it only cost me $29.95, plus $3.95 shipping and $2.50 Tax, not too bad!
thanks for the heads up!
Oh awesome, I'll have to go register and see if they send me one. Thanks for the info!
